Guys, thanks to Welshace, I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 approx a year ago for FM16 and onwards.

Have had no issues, runs smooth and perfectly, can load lots of leagues (I play with pretty much all Europe, China, USA and some South American leagues) and graphics can't be faulted.

Can assure you if anyone reading decides to purchase, it will be money well spent!

Looking at these two laptops

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J612-408-MSI-GL62-6QD-408UK_1955707.html

http://www.ebuyer.com/749014-msi-gl62-6qf-apache-pro-gaming-laptop-9s7-16j562-1089

Apart from the second one having a slightly better graphics card + 8gb more ram but being £50 more expensive.  Are there any other differences ?

Also could anyone tell me what the build quality is like on the MSI?  Are the keyboards back lit ?  Whats the display like?

Much appreciated

I'm looking for a bit of help on a new desktop please.

Four years ago I bought this:

"Titan 8700i Pulse" Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz DDR3 Ivybridge System
MSI HD 5450 1024MB GDDR5 Low Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card
No Sound Card Upgrade
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050)
System 12 Months Standard Warranty
Microsoft Office Starter Edition
Networking Not Selected
Intel 330 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail

It's now gone kaput unfortunately, but it was doing a decent job running FM. How much do you reckon I'd need to spend to get something roughly equivalent these days? And any recommendations ?  I don't think I'd get something overclocked again (too LOUD!)

i7 quad core, can't remember the rest but it was on offer when first released and bought through saveonlaptops. Not sure on the graphics card but it's a top end one.

If you have the budget, I'd strongly recommend the Dell.

Got around 800 to play with! Really wanted a Dell but so many to choose from!

No cons for me ..

Just depends what you fancy   i.e... do you want a 17" laptop? or are you happy with a 15"?

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J612-408-MSI-GL62-6QD-408UK_1955707.html

In fairness, I don't particularly need a 17 inch.

I bought this exactly three years ago, and it's served me very well for playing FM.

Always managed to get about 60,000 players loaded, with a large amount of leagues loaded and no slowdown really. But the graphics aren't very good. Playing on medium setting and the 3d games lag a bit - even with crowd turned off.

In your opinion, is the upgrade on spec worth the extra money? I know it's hard for you to judge and it's a pretty personal decision, but with my awful knowledge of all things computers, am I likely to see much of an improvement in processing speed etc?

Cheers in advance!

It's most definitely a big upgrade on your current laptop... significantly better cpu, more ram, better hhd, and a dedicated graphics card...

You will definitely see a big difference in performance, and it will last you a good few years..it has the best cpu for laptops you can get without delving into massively expensive desktop grade cpu's in laptops..... but only you can decide whether it's worth the upgrade or not really.

I think I'd be looking to spend £600-£700 pounds based on what I've seen this weekend. I don't need much graphically capability. Any recommendations?

Hey guys.

So I have an OLD PC at home that I play fm17 on using cheat engine to help speed it along.

My mrs is going to get me a laptop in these Black Friday deals.

I'm hearing Nivida GeForce graphics card 8600M is supposed to be something to look for.

I know NOTHING about computer or laptops. Could anyone reccomend one for £300 max so I can just run FM17 and load. Plenty of leagues ?

cheers

Be interested to hear his opinion on it.  I'm keeping my powder dry until black Friday despite hunting a new laptop since June.

Yeah me too, keep seeing different ones but would be gutted if I bought one for 800 then see it Friday for 600!

Me too.  My budget is the same around £800.  Funny enough I nearly bought one from pcspecialist for £816 now its £927 and I also nearly bought a MSI from saveonlaptops for £749 and now its £799.  I'm hoping my patience on waiting for Friday pays off.

I don't trust AMD processors. It will no doubt run the game ok, but as for running multiple leagues at pace I would have my doubts.

Should be perfectly fine for 6/7 leagues though. It's a much better spec than my current laptop, which runs a 60-70k player database relatively well (for my expectations anyway).

For £300 you're going to struggle to play plenty of leagues at a bearable speed.

Thank you for the reply,  what is this one looking like http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15-ba083sa-15-6-laptop-silver-10151866-pdt.html

Hey, I tested that one out for a while yes, I loved the new cpu it has, ran fm great (15 leagues,100k database and 3d on medium)... build quality great too..

Not a bad price but definitely not the most powerful spec you can get for that sort of money.. the cpu is a workhorse, but it is still a U model.

The extra £50 for this for example will be the best £50 you could ever spend tbh : http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J612-408-MSI-GL62-6QD-408UK_1955707.html

Will have a look around when i get a minute for some deals too.

Thanks for the advice.  That one you mentioned is on my shortlist.  I'm just waiting to see if it comes down in price on black friday.

I bought the latest HP Envy and it runs FM really well. But on FM it says computer performance is only a star and graphics on half a star.. The speed my games run and the 3D match engine is definitely better than what FM are telling me..

Anyone try running with a Surface Pro 4 i5 8GB RAM? Debating whether I should use that or go 16GB or RAM but the price skyrockets too on those tablets.  As I don't really use my laptop these days I was looking at a tablet specifically for FM/EHM
