I just wanted to say that these good results do not mean that the tactic is working.

and we have to say u ,that if ur team has good mentality the tactic will work more harder. like wonder. u know why?  coz the game isnt fixed yet...GKS takes goals from every inch of pitch with any way. they dont react to anything. When they fix that we can speak about what is working and what is not. FM23 SP was more broken btw

Struggling to find a consistent away tactic as Liverpool a few seasons in.  Barely pick up points against the top four and against big champions league teams away in later stages. Picking a good tactic and going balanced doesn't seem to do much. What's everyone using?

Home tactics are perfect - rotate between 'HGF 451 MC P107 ALL CUPS' and 'WOF 451 ATT TH P94 FA'

Here's the thing. Despite a dominating season, a million goals scored and all my efforts I couldn't get a striker to really shine and score as expected (or as in FM 23 :D). Used the weak Amazonense to try different tactics (started with the 3241 but conceded too many goals against decent teams) and different types of striker (fast strikers still seem the most efficient) though in the end STC was often outscored by AMC (Vini Locatelli won Série C Top Scorer with 15 goals) and even CB (corner kicks are out of control!) and scored around 0,5 goals per game wich is good IRL but terrible for my FM standards :D. One thing I noticed is the AMC tends to get to the end of crosses/cut backs as often as STC which is probably the reason of AMC scoring prowess. Other than that I can confirm what most people are reporting in feedback: too many goals scored, too many injuries (including goalkeepers), broken player/squad interaction and a few bugs persisting from a decade... Though I'm mostly annoyed that despite probably the most dominating, overachieving season in recent FMs and scoring about a million team goals my strikers posted average numbers :D.

Hey @kandersson, I find the results you got encouraging, but for a rather unusual reason: :)

In every version of FM I always try to create or tweak the tactics I use so my AMC ends up as the team's main goalscorer, so I enjoyed seeing this happening in your save. Do you mind showing Vini Locatelli profile? And your main striker as well?

I said the reason was unusual because the "normal" thing is having the striker as the top goal threat, yeah? And if not a striker, it's usually a wide player like a inside forward or something like it. Nowadays it's very unusual to see an AMC being the main goalscorer (like Pelé or Zico in the past) in a more "conventional" tactic, which also employs a ST. (I believe it can work if you go strikerless, but that's not something I'm interested in)

In FM23 my favorite tactic was @knap's Pep 3241, same as yours I believe. I tweaked it to make the AMC (ss) the main goalscorer, and tried to turn the ST into a "facilitator", responsible for creating space/chances for the AMC.

It kind of worked, in the end the AMC/ss and the ST ended up splitting the goals. This was the AMC statistics in the league:

We won the league and had one of the strongest squads though, so a top side, not sure if it would have worked as an underdog.

I'm wondering if @knap thinks its possible to create a tactic where a player in the AMC strata ends up being the main goalscorer, and the lone ST works as more of a "creator", pulling defenders out of position, playing through balls to the AMC, playing one-twos, etc?

@knap, do you think a tactic like this could work? I don't mind if it is not as good/performant as your normal tactics, I still think your version would end up being better than anything I can come up with. :D I will still try to create/tweak one by myself like I did for FM23, but I would love to see what you could come up with.

In terms of my own tactic/tweak, I think I will use either Pep 3241 or some of Knap's 4411/4141 (using IWB or IFB, not a big fan of traditional WB/FB) as the base. Not sure what works better, if 2 players in the AMC strata like in Pep 3241 (SS + Playmaker), or a lone AMC with another creator playing in the MC/DM strata. Will definitely use a lone striker though, I'm thinking someone similar to peak Bobby Firmino at Liverpool, but instead of helping the wide players (Salah/Mane) score, he should be helping the AMC. And 2 wide players in either MR/ML or AMR/AML helping creating more chances for the AMC as well. I'm not very good at the tactical side of FM, so I would like to hear a specialist's opinion on this matter. :)

@Ikthop interesting stuff!

I find joy in FM only when I can concentrate the goals on a designated goalscorer and really boost his numbers :D. Doesn't necessarily have to be a striker though traditionally it's easier in FM that it is in fact a striker (namely a fast striker). My ideal set-up would be using a creative target man type supporting a P/AF/SS goalscorer (in STC or AMC position) I just don't have the tactical talent/patience to make it work  :D

PEP 3241 was phenomenal for me in FM 23 as it created lots of chances (and different type of chances) for the striker while also allowing AMC's to shine (I'm a fan of AMC/No.10 too). Unfortunately didn't work the same for me in FM 24 so switched to 4231 with three AP's hoping they'd be mainly creators/passers... I was wrong . I can confirm AMC position in particular (not just Vini Locatelli) seemed to get the most chances and eventually outscored the striker. Locatelli was just an original member of Amazonas FC with decent attributes for AMC and above average quickness for third division (14/14 pace/acceleration), and the strikers I used were mostly speed merchants with no real creativity or playmaking skills. I've signed better AMC's for second season (most notably some personal favorites like Diego Raposo, Jhemerson and Yann Rolim) and the trend of the goalscoring AMC continues. I think atm the ME might have a tendency to favor AMC's scoring at higher rate than before so should be a good year for you :D. Narrow 4231 with three AMC's seem to have very good ratings too as well as the 4222 brazilian box with two AMC's so you have a few options.

I haven't had time to properly play FM24 yet, so that's great news you just gave me. Thanks mate! :)

Looks like a fast AMC + a striker with good passing/vision/creativity and not so good finishing/speed might be a good start. This way the ST might be more selfless and look for a pass first before attempting to shoot (will also try to teach them that ppm).

@Ikthop I think a fast striker stretching defence, moving into channels and keeping CB's busy still helped my AMC scoring goals (assists mostly came from crosses and cutbacks from AMR/L and DR/L). FM just likes fast strikers :D. Best option might be a fast striker with good passing/vision and high work rate/teamwork plus maybe a set of suitable PI/traits (looks for pass rather than attempting to score, try killer balls often etc)

Do we just have to accept ridiculous scoring games in FM now? Or is it just me? Games are always 4-2 or 5-2 etc. Very rarely low scoring games. No matter what I do with the tactic. I'll pretty much always concede and often the opposition's only chance.

All tactics I've tried so far are like this. I've tested about 4 different tactics with Southampton. I've done well, but have always conceded, on average, around a goal a game and more often than not scoring 100+ goals within a 46 game season.

For me, it just takes the realism out of the game.

I'd like a strong tactic that isn't OP.
