Season Update 2021-2022 "All of Tamworth's dreams came true this season as they defied expectations suggesting that they would be relegation certainties and instead mounted an almost unbelievable title-winning campaign. It was a season of unlikely yet jubilant success for Tamworth, their early season form propelled them into title contention and provided them with the platform to go on and win the competition." Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances | Youth Intake | Injury Summary | Manager Profile | Affiliate Clubs Fixtures 1 | Fixtures 2 | Fixtures 3 The Story of the Season EFL League Two: Fight bravely against relegation | Won Title One of the best summer transfer windows I have yet had in this career, gave me the confidence of easily getting into the top half of the table despite our not so favourable pre-season odds which predicted a 22nd place finish. With a fantastic pre-season which included wins against championship teams, Norwich City and Millwall gave me confidence that maybe we could challenge for promotion even, however that idea was quickly decimated by the brutal mauling I received at the hand of promotion contenders Mansfield and Bury. An astute change of tactics in the next few matches (thank you @Rashidi's pressing lines guide } saw us blow away the opposition as we went on a rampage in the league till the second half of the season on our way to 24 matches in a row without defeat. The new year suddenly saw us lose form as we lost 3 games out of the 5 games in January. The next two months did not bring much relief as our form continued to be wobbly as we struggled and lost against relegation candidates and lower table teams. Our early season and first half run thankfully afforded us the cushion of points which started quickly getting eroded as Lincoln City started breathing down our necks which at one point of time had us dangerously hanging by the thread as we headed into the final month. With only 2 points separating us from Title contenders Lincoln City a loss could hand the momentum to them making the title a difficult proposition. The away match against them was a crucial tie which could have changed the course of our season had we lost it, We were on our way to a hard-fought win when they earned a penalty which was converted. I would have been happy to take the draw as it maintained the league status quo, but that goal gave them renewed confidence as they dominated us in the last 10 mins as we hang on desperately for the draw. 90+5 minutes saw them get a corner which was hastily cleared by Nathan Clements and picked up by James Norwood on the counter who with a brilliant run past two defenders on the right wing crossed from the byline into the box. Joe Quigley picked the ball on the volley and squared to Kyle Taylor in the box for a simple tap-in, giving us the win. In the end our league double over them played a crucial role as we secured the title with one match left in the season, in the end, finishing 7 points in front as we scored 101 goals matching Tamworth F.C. record. The Emirates FA Cup: Reach First Round| Reached Fifth Round got knocked out by Tottenham Spurs This squad is turning out to be the party poopers more often than not in cups, going on big cup runs every season as we were the overachievers of this season in The Emirates FA Cup. After easily dispatching Torquay United and Bolton Wanderers we faced Coventry City away from home, we struggled and were lucky to come away with a draw despite ending the match with ten men. The home replay against them had us turn all expectations on its head as we destroyed them 6-0 making it our biggest result of the season. Next round had us face Sunderland AFC and despite being a championship side did not really bother us much as we played a masterclass of possession football backed by some equally fantastic defending as we finished the match 2-1. Fifth round saw us visit Tottenham Spurs in a repeat of last season Fourth Round match which saw them win 5-1 and knocking us out. Carabao Cup: Reach First Round| Reached Fourth Round got knocked out by Brighton Hove & Albion In one of the toughest cup runs Tamworth F.C. faced as of yet, we came away with great results. The first round saw us visit League One team Scunthrope United, they were single-handedly dismantled by our free-kick specialist Reece Cole, as he scored a brace from a screamer from open play and direct free-kick helping us win 1-3. Next round against Stoke City was a dull affair as no team could break the deadlock in regulation time as we did not allow a single shot on target but at the same time failed to score from any of our 7 shots on target as we won the ensuing penalty shoot-out 2-4. The third round saw us visit Stamford Bridge as we lined up against Premier League team Chelsea in a match that defied expectations and shocked me. We came away with a brilliant 1-2 win against an opponent who completely dominated us but could not bring the end product. We were eventually knocked out in the 4th round by Brighton Hove & Albion with a humiliating 2-5 loss at home. Checkatrade Trophy: Reach Group Stage| Reached Second Round got knocked out by Bradford City This competition was one of the favourable competition where I hoped to make deep inroads and the exploits of the team in the league and Carabao cup against much better sides gave me big hopes. Big away wins against League One team Carlisle United and Bolton Wanderers in the group stages further encouraged me that we could make a run for the summit. The North 2nd Round against League One team Bradford City started crazily as we were down 1 goal after 4 minutes only peg them back with a goal the next minute. Going into half-time we were trailing 1-2 but our display gave me hope of turning it around, the second half brought some dirty play from my team as we self-imploded on our way to 1-3 defeat. Player Performances One of the most potent front-line in the league tore away the opposition as 6 players ended the season with double-digit scoring records. Club record signing James Norwood started the season ahead of longtime target Joe Quigley as he plundered to 18 goals before an injury around Christmas saw him lose his place and ended up scoring only 1 goal in second half of the season. Joe Quigley scored 15 goals out of his 22 of the season after finally get a good run in second half of the season ending the season as number one striker. Will Randall (12 goals and 11 assists) and David Olaoye (10 goals and 9 assists) continued in the same rich vein of form they left last season, however, it was Nathan Clements who defied expectations. Brought in at the last minute as a backup for the wingers due to his ability to play on either wing he flourished in his role often featuring on the left wing but equally potent on the right when needed. He smashed the club record on his way to 20 assists while scoring 9 goals during the campaign. While strikers and wingers get the most accolades due to their exploits it was the midfield duo of Reece Cole and club captain Jordan Rossiter who single-handedly won us many a match as they controlled the midfield. Cole our free-kick expert scored 13 goals as we finished the league with the highest number of goals from direct free-kicks. The mid-press system that I employed this season with a high line of defence needed a good defence and between Jarvis Edobor and Charlie Oliver ably supported by Adam Curry I had one of the best defensive pairings yet. Defensive Statistics Playmaking Statistics Goalscoring Statistics Academy Player Performances Previous year graduates Dave Gilchrist and Jon Osman both fish out of waters in the League Two as they did not have any sort of impact with their appearances limited to few matches. Tamworth class of '22 This year intake brought us the most unexpected joy as we got our potential "Golden Generation"! The class of '22 with 7 fantastic youth candidates could serve us for a long time, and can they repeat the famous '92 of Man Utd? Emmanuel Woodward, Samuel Mohammed, Harley Morris, Steve Joy, Mick Rioch, Adam Evangelinos, Jamie Broadhurst Miscellaneous Updates Top Goalscorers: Joe Quigley (22) | James Norwood (18) | Reece Cole (13) Top Assists: Nathan Clements (20) | Will Randall (11) | Reece Cole (10) Retirements at the Club: Scott Cuthbert The season saw me inundated with job offers including multiple premier league teams mistakenly I attended one of the interviews. The board got a whiff of it and immediately offered a new contract and in the discussions, I was able to get them to agree to a new affiliate club with great training facilities we could use, which they kept denying me all this while. Also, yours truly ended up winning the EFL League Two Manager of the Year. Around the World Manager favourite Reading FC fought bravely and while being under the threat of getting pulled into the relegation zone, kept out of it till managerial change around the turn of the year saw them self-explode as they finished 20th relegating them from Premier League. Manchester City, Barcelona, Paris SG, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Sporting Lisbon, Ajax, KAA Gent won their respective leagues. Boyd The Beast Posted December 4, 2018 Share Posted December 4, 2018 (edited) Dorking Wanderers Season 4 - 2022/23 League - Second season in the National League and losing out in the playoffs last year I was optimistic of this year especially with some talent we brought in. However, things just didn't click for us and our season saw us put in inconsistent performances all year which saw us finish 13th. When things seemed like they were back on track we would lose form and drop down the table. Ultimately we missed out on the playoffs which left me frustrated. Maybe I was being too loyal to some players that just aren't up to standards and this opened my eyes. Coming into next year I upgraded some key positions and was extra careful to get the right players who have strong mentalities. Cups - This year made it the farthest yet in the FA Cup, reaching the 3rd Round and getting an away draw to Aston Villa. We got some much needed money which unfortunately was only enough for a coaching badge before it ran out, but much appreciated! FA Trophy continues to be a disappointment, knocked out in our first game. Transfers - Thought I had some real gems joining this year but ultimately only Knight lived up to my expectations. Broome who was suppose to lead our attack was simply not scoring and ended up getting outscored by Banton who started less games Finances - As mentioned the cup money quickly ran out. Orangedale Posted December 5, 2018 Share Posted December 5, 2018 (edited) Whitehawk Season 2 2020/2021 "Few would have tipped Whitehawk to have been capable of avoiding relegation heading into the season but Whitehawk confounded every expectation by achieving a solid mid-table finish." Squad | Competitions | Transfers | Finances In what proved to be a rollarcoaster of a season, by the start of the new year my hope for a playoff position had completely dissipated. We had a promising start to the season, but hit a patch where we didn't win for 9 games, with a string of 7 losses in there. I complete rethink of my tactics saw me shift from a wide 433 to a 442. Two men leading the line proved to be the spark we need to find some form, as we put together some fine form, winning 6 of our next 7 games. Unfortunately Connor Tighe from last season followed through on his threats to leave the club at this point and departed Whitehawk from the chance to be a free agent. Not having enough left sided midfielders to fill his role, I transitioned to an asymmetric 4132. While we struggled with crosses from our left side, our tall centrebacks were for the most part able to deal with the aerial threats. Signing of the season was Billy Knott. After figuring out his best role, he proved to be a great distributor of the ball, playing some amazing through balls out to the wings initiating counter attacks. I picked up Tottenham product Dennis Cirkin on a free after he was released. He was highly rated by my scouts, and though he lacked the attributes I generally look for, determination, teamwork, and work rate, I gave him a chance but he didn't perform at all. Quite a disappointment. He now wants to leave and I don't think he will be missed. Again we put in some poor cup performances. Not much to say here than we should have done better. The finances are still in a good position. $150k was spent on improving the youth facilities but it was all for naught as the intake this year was terrible, not a single lad worth mentioning. Next season we will definitely be pushing for a play off position. Tactically the team is playing how I would like them. If we can sign a couple of strong players over the summer I think we have a fair chance. At all costs we must avoid a terrible run of form like we experienced this year. tremor Posted December 5, 2018 Share Posted December 5, 2018 (edited) Benjamin Petit at Folkestone Invicta 2020-21 Season Vanarama National League - Champions FA Cup - knocked out in the 2nd round by Luton Town FA Trophy - winners - beat Chesterfield 2-1 in the final Not got a lot of time to go into loads of detail but it's been an amazing season. We took quite a few gambles on players who had been released by premier league teams... Malachi Walcott was a massive bonus for us and really became the rock in our central defensive area, Oliver Finney arrived in the middle of the season and mad a huge difference to our midfield as well becoming our free-kick and corner king. Picked up a lot of free-bees over the season as well to plug holes as injuries set in and ended the season with a lot of the early season squad languishing in the reserves as better players began to show an interest as our league position strengthened. Having been promoted i decided that the best form of defence was attack and we moved from our sturdy 4222 from the previous season to a more attacking 343. Clearly this took everyone by surprise and we absolutely stormed the league, we had a big mid-season wobble where we just seemed unable to hold on to a win and drew a lot of matches. Ultimately we managed to steady the ship in January and then went on to comfortably control the league and see out the win. Currently waiting to see if we are going to go professional and apparently we might be upgrading our stadium which would be great, hopefully i can persuade the board to send me on more training courses, managed to get up to National A licence this year. Clearly the big focus will be to solidify and secure our league status next year so hopefully i can recruit well in the summer. League Table - I'm delighted with a top half finish, but we were in with a chance of making the playoffs with two games to go. FA Trophy - I rotated the squad as usual. FA Cup - this felt like a huge game to me as a Pompey fan, but the attendance was disappointing. Squad - the squad is slowly being improved, but we have too many weak positions. Transfers - the new signings were a real mixture, with some I'm ready to release. Finances - pre season friendlies gave us enough money to last the season. Key Player Profiles: Lewis Reed - top scorer from the supporting role after Troy Chiabi was released. Samuel Sawyer - I was so glad to re-sign this midfielder. Robert Strachan - this new signing upset my captain. Kai Brown - the highly rated new signing has yet to make an impact. Jonny Smith - decent wingers are so important to the way we play. Squad | Competitions | Transfers | Finances What a truly remarkable season. 11 points clear on top, and 11 goals fewer conceded than any other team, a rock solid defence was the back bone to our success. We managed a 25 run unbeaten steak in the league either side of our two losses, seems the winning formula at the tail end of last season held through for this one. Matt Drage was the top rated player following on from the previous seasons great performances. Kai Millington was the first choice right back. I played him mostly as a fullback on defend, and considering he was part of the best defence in the league I would have expected a better average rating but low ratings for my fullbacks seems to be a theme for me. I have high hopes for him though. Will be looking to utilise his offensive capabilities a little more next season. A major part of the great campaign were some very good transfers. A number of talented ex premier league youth prospects came aboard. We actually lost Dave Cox on a free which I wish I could have capitalised on. Dipo Akinyemi made a great target man next to Christian N'Guessan. He came to the club as a centre midfielder but thanks to something new I've decided to try this year, which is a moneyball like approach to weighting player attributes for particular positions, my spreadsheet showed that he was a very well rounded and talent advanced forward. He proved to do a very good job in the role and I particularly like his physicality. We moved on Dennis Cirkin from last season for a pittance, but a pittance is better than nothing so I'm fine with that. We faired a little better in the cups this year, eventually losing away 2-1 to Dulwich in the FA Cup 4th round qualifier, and losing to Dag & Red at home 0-1. Nothing remarkable finances wise. Expecting to take a hit when we have to upgrade our capacity for promotion though. Next season we will look to avoid the drop. Having looked at the wage budgets of the teams up there it may be a challenge but I do think with the football we're playing we can snatch enough wins to do the job. With only 1 scout, it took an absolute age to find the suitable improvements necessary to be competitive. The boards expectation was that we would fight bravely against relegation, but secretly my backroom staff and I had set our aims a lot higher! The media expected us to struggle too but were slightly more confident than the board, expecting us to avoid the drop with a bit of luck. As it turned out, we were in a tense title race with Kingstonian for the majority of the season, finally leapfrogging them after the penultimate game of the season, then holding on to win the league and gain promotion to the Vanarama National League. Now the hard work begins! League Table - Champions! Cups - Nothing to get carried away with here, but at least we got a bit of cash back from the games we did play. Transfers Finances - We lost money consistently all season, the only saving grace was a board takeover towards the end of the season which leveled our balance again, albeit with a bank loan we're now having to pay off! Key Players Cameron Walker - Our star striker with 29 league goals and 10 league assists. He was our most potent threat all season. AJ George - Our rock in the midfield, he also turned out to be a good creator of chances, topping our assist charts. Ryan Law - I like playing with full backs in a wing back role that get involved and can provide chances for those piling into the box. Ryan did it really well all season. Brexit Just a side note - It's been announced that we're having a hard brexit...all EU players will require Work Permits. Should add another element of difficulty moving forward! Unlike last season my new recruits made the impact I was hoping for. We had a great first half of the season and were keeping up with the league leaders. Unfortunately we had a dip in form coming towards the end of the season and fell out of the playoff spots. Luckily in the final stretch we found our form again and made the playoffs on the last day. Our hot streak continued in the playoffs beating Tranmere, Dag & Red and then Eastleigh(managed by my first Assistant Coach). The final was a close game that saw us coming back to win 2-1 in front of a crowd of 38,000+ Our team was led by new signing Antonio Diaz who played in our deep lying playmaker role. Diaz was so important to us this season that he swept the end of the season awards Cups - This season was a complete disappointment when it came to our cup competitions. In the FA Cup it took a reply to get past our first opponent in Basingstoke and then crashing out in the 1st round to fellow National League competitors Carlisle. In the FA Trophy we failed to trouble Yeovil in the 2nd round which means we won't be adding this trophy to our collection. Transfers - 6 new starters came in, and without them we would not be going up. Finances - We did get a boost to our balance after winning the final and gaining promotion but we are expanding our stadium(so happy they haven't decided to build a new stadium yet) and will have extra expenses since turning professional. Thebaker Posted December 10, 2018 Share Posted December 10, 2018 Table |Squad | Transfers Had struggled previously in this league and wasn't able to get many players capable of improving the squad early on. In spite of this the team made a great start finding scoring pretty easy. Managed to stay in the top 3 until about Nov/Dec when the run of games every 3 days meant a lot of rotation and a loss of form, the team bounced back until Mar when they faced a lot of the top teams losing most of them. With 3 games to go the team had got back to 7th but 1 point from those games (2 of which were against teams in the bottom half) meant that the team fell short of the playoffs. The cups were also a missed opportunity. In the FA cup the team got past L2 Gillingham in the 1st Rd replay after dominating and blowing a 2 goal lead at home. In the 2nd Rd the team then were well beaten by VNS Woking. In the FA trophy the team lost out to VNL Leyton Orient in the 2nd Rd Finances continue to look quite healthy mostly due to a decent attendance although the board will still not approve any facilities improvements. My defence did well in patches this year but the loss of Racine for the last 3 months to injury and Huckle leaving on transfer day after playing 22 games, left the the team threadbare and cost a place in the playoffs. Davis was good at LB and LM and his set-pieces were invaluble. In midfield the players are not rated highly but all played well, I have high hopes for Klass going forward as he is always a good player at this level. Kealy continued to excel up front with Saydee and Jarvis also contributing. I had this youth player come through who looks a star, already nearly at the standard of my first choice keeper. The board however, expected us to reach the playoffs. A bit much in my opinion, but the bar were set for us. We won 2 of the first 3 matches and things looked good. Then the board went above me and sold our great goalkeeper Benjamin Ansong 24g to Sampdoria. No protests were heard, so we suddenly only had two untested youngster available, and none with a massive potential. I also sold one of our backup strikers to Crystal Palace for almost £1M to help out our finances. Without the solid goalkeeper at the back we started to struggle and went on a poor streak. The board even started noting that I should be performing better, so I were unsure if this save were going to end. Luckily, we started to play better after Christmas and climbed back up and solidified our position around the playoff spots, going in and out of the playoff itself. We scored a lot of goals, but we made a lot of mistakes in defense and now without a good goalkeeper to control them it showed were we were lacking the most. After the final match we found ourselves in the last playoff spot. In the semi final we drew Bradford City. A team we had had good control of in the league games. The first match, at home, we walked all over them, winning 4-1. We followed that up with a 3-2 win away to qualify for the final. Here we went up against Forest Green. They had knocked out Bury in the other semi final and had beaten us in both league games this season. The final started amazingly, however, as crowd favorite Ethan Davies 21e scored after only 40 seconds. I still don't know how he scores as much as he does with only 5 in finishing! And only a couple of minutes later he showed up again and scored another. After half an hour our top scorer Kingsley Williams 23d jumped salmonlike after a cross and nodded in our 3rd goal. As we went into half time with a 3-0 lead I was prettey happy. Mere seconds into the second half our young goalkeeper Sam Doy 27e dallied on the ball and got caught out my a striker who took the ball and put it in the empty net. Two minutes later Forest Green got another after an amazing long shot. The comeback were completed when the got a third towards the end to equalize the score. In extra time we started great again when Williams 23d scored after a short pass. Our young striker Joe McPhillamy 28c got his goal a few minutes later with a great shot for 25 yards out. Forest Green got another goal in the second extra time, but we held on to the lead to win the playoff final 5-4 aet. Promotion again! Oh, and we moved into our new 5k stadium. In the FA Cup we got to the 3rd, but lost home to Huddersfield. In the League Cup we got to the 4th round before losing home to Man Utd (I wish it was away...). In the League Trophy we got past a group ahead of Swindon, Bristol City U23s and Bristol Rovers. We then beat Boreham Wood, Southend, Plymouth and Stevenage to reach the final. Here we beat Mansfield on pens after playing 1-1 to get our second cup trophy. We had a decent youth intake, but at least we got a talented goalkeeper in Chris White 29a. We struggled at first, but once a few players had come in, the team found some form. We managed a play-off spot, but I wasn't expecting much as we'd lost most of our games against tough opposition, we were just dispatching many of the mid to bottom table sides. We finished with a good goal difference thanks to the leagues 5th best attack and 4th best defence. Financially, the first season was a struggle. When I arrived, many average players were on high wages and the squad lacked in several areas. This means anyone willing to join wanted wages to match the others in the squad. I've resigned contracts with a bunch of players as the season closed and I've managed to reduce their wages as well as sign the back-up players on non-contracts, so things may go a little better next season. Although there's a scheduled stadium expansion if we remain in the league, or are promoted. I bagged my first badge over the course of the season, and improved several staff members. I have not renewed the director of football's contract, he was there when I arrived, but is not really needed. The club is currently in the process of a takeover, which worries me as some players are retiring and I need replacements. The transfers were plenty, mainly because I brought in a lot of youth. The club didn't really have any youth players when I took over, so I grabbed a bunch of high potential players on youth contracts, so no extra costs to give the Under 18s some depth, and hopefully one or two of them may prove useful. Unfortunately, my best player, left-back Moore, will not sign a contract on a wage less than 900/week, this means he'll likely have to be released, I have already found a replacement, but he's no where near the same level. I hope this doesn't impact the squad too much, Moore provided a number of important goals and assists, finishing with a 7.4 rating. I'm expected to avoid relegation again next season, but my players believe they can get mid-table. I will be personally aiming for another play-off spot. Hopefully one or two acquisitions, if the takeover doesn't drag on, will provide us with that extra quality to take on the better teams. On the countless occasions I've done this before, I've always managed to make a very large profit. I was expecting to go from -96K to at least 200K. However, there's large amounts going on 'other' expenditure meaning, the income generated by these friendlies has been nullified. When booking the friendlies, I always select the teams that offer the best return, usually 4k to 8k, so this is unlike any other preseason I've done in the game. Dan_987 Posted December 14, 2018 Share Posted December 14, 2018 In previous edition's before FM17 I used to prefer home friendlies during pre-season, but now with the appearance fee paid to the away team there is very little profit (if any) after including gate receipts for lower league teams. The revenue from 3,500 tickets doesn't cover the appearance fee from Premier League/Championship sides and match day expenses.. maybe it's more realistic now. We utilised a transfer strategy one of the other managers mentioned previously in this thread, we offered trials to every single youth player released by a Premiership club and signed all those that would accept an offer. The idea was to benefit from having decent players on board with the opportunity of selling them on with high clauses as and when bids come in. Two of those signings were snapped up this season as you can see from the transfers screen here. Both of them included 50% of next sale clauses, Jack Bearne was loaned back to us for the rest of the season - thankfully! It all paid off as we comfortably sat at the top of the league all season, and strolled to a second consecutive promotion! League Table - Champions! Cups - Nothing to get carried away with here, but at least we got a bit of cash back from the games we did play. Transfers Finances - We lost money consistently all season, the only saving grace was a board takeover towards the end of the season which leveled our balance again, albeit with a bank loan we're now having to pay off! Key Players Jack Bearne - Young Jack was the signing we always expected to be moving on first - and amazingly, he was one of the only players that agreed a contract without a minimum release clause! We did quite well out of the deal, thanks to the 50% of next sale clause, and managing to get him back on loan for the rest of the season! We were level on points with 3 games to go as they went above us on goal difference. Chippenham preceded to implode losing 3-0 to Oxford City. Needing only 1 point to win the title we had (yes you guessed it...) Chippenham in the final game. We battered them 4-0 to win the league and gain promotion to the Vanarama National League. My player stats keep getting worse.I think its because our coach isnt good enough and i only get permission to sign more staff till end of season. I mainly use 4-4-2 flat in first half of the season and then switch to 4-4-1-1 because of Chris Thomas a very interesting young man from recruitment last year and sometimes go 4-3-3. Key player: Chris Thomas - a very strong Shadow Striker from youth recruitment. Next season plans: I looking forward to renovate my backroom staff. Squad | Competitions | Transfers | Finances After starting the season relatively well patch 19.2 dropped and all of a sudden my tactic was not working. I had been sitting very deep, inviting pressure, then unleashing long balls over the top to my 2 front men or quick wingers. The balls over the top stopped being as effective, and sitting so deep invited too many long shots that in my opinion do not accurately reflect the real technique and success rate of the players at this level. I had a very bad spell but managed to salvage enough points and have results elsewhere go my way on the final day to avoid the drop. Another bad year of cup performances. Could really use a good cup run to boost the coffers. The finances are starting to slide with the higher wage bill. Don't think it's as easy to make money with preseason friendlies either any more so that could be concerning too. Have told the squad we should avoid relegation next year. Really I'll be hoping for a mid table finish. After 3 straight promotions, the board at least didn't expect us to go up again. They only wanted mid-table. A bit ambitious, but at least I knew my goals. We managed to keep all the players during the summer window, and not much complaining either. The season itself started very good. We only lost 2 of our first 10 matches and won 6 of them. I think this lead us to be over-confident and perhaps a bit complacent. At any rate, we hit into a very poor run of form in November and December were we only won 1 out of 10 matches. We slid down the table then, but we managed to stabilize just past the new year and find our feet again. When we had reached April we had a good chance at getting a playoff spot, though the fight was hard. Watford, Preston, Blackburn and Swansea were the main competitors for the 3 last playoff spots behind Leicester and Aston Villa, who had ran away, and Burnley, who while a bit of the top two, still had a good lead of the rest of the pack. With one game remaining we were guaranteed a playoff spot. In the semi final we got draw against Watford. In the league play we had beaten them both at home and away, but only with one goal each time. The first leg was at our place. We really put them to the sword and won it 4-2 and it could (and should) have been a bigger margin. In the away leg we fell behind after 17 minutes and then made it harder for ourselves when we got a red card after an hour. In the second half they steamrolled over us and it ended 3-0 to them, and the aggregate 5-4 to them. We were close, but no cigar. Still, a very good season by us, and much more than I hoped for. In the FA Cup we started in the 3rd round, but got an away draw to Liverpool. We fought hard, but lost 3-2 to a semi b-side. In the League cup we beat Forest Green and Nottingham Forest, but got thumped away to Everton in the 3rd round. We had a rather poor youth intake, and the only worth mentioning is Christoforos Vlavianos 30a. Presentation of the main players: GK: Chris White 29a - Only 17, but our first choice already. DR: Robbie Healy 23e - A veteran for us with over 200 league matches for us. Also capped 4 times for Ireland. DC: Abubakar Ekwueme 26f - Very talented youngster, keeps getting capped for England U20. DC: Terry Perry 26a - A stalwart in defense and works well with Ekwueme. Capped twice for England U21s. DL: Victor Akinyemi 24b - A very good fullback, he has been capped by England U23s and Nigeria U20s. MR: Akil Bullivant 27a - Made the spot his this year with some great matches, still a bit inconsistent though. MC: Romaine Scott 24d - Our most capped player with 36 caps and 5 goals for Jamaica. And a great player. MC: Reuben Fox 26e - Plays at the deep lying playmaker and pivot in our team. Controls our play greatly. ML: Neil Mitchell 24c - Been out most of the season with a major injury, but still our best left midfielder. SC: Joe McPhillamy 28c - Great physicals and mentals and if he keeps improving his technicals he is destined for greatness. SC: Kingsley Williams 23d - Been our top scorer the last few season, but he struggled quite a bit this season. Capped 4 times for Nigeria Notable subs:Robert O'Halloran 24a - Another great defender. Capped 5 times for Ireland.Oliver Broughton 29b - Had to step in on left back due to an injury crisis and played great.Shawn Lawrence 28a - In a tough battle on the central midfield, but is a very talented player. Yeah, the number is the year they came through. The letter is how high the assistant rate their potential. A is the best, B is the next best, etc. The fun thing about that is to see that the rating the assistant give them at intake day is far from a certain. Take Ekwueme as an example. He is tagged as "f" so he was not one of the biggest rated talents: He was a decent talent, but not the best. Still, now he is one of our highest rated talents. Superowl90 Posted December 18, 2018 Share Posted December 18, 2018 Just a quick update, had another unbelievable season in league one and went straight up finishing second. So i'm one season away from the promised land. The only problem now is that my ground is only 6K so struggling to keep the finances good. Hopefully if i can keep wages low but competitive in the Championship i can make a few million over a couple of seasons and then have a big push. The most surprising thing going up the league is my striker Okera Simmonds has been top goal scorer with at least 25 a season since the conference north. The championship might be a bit much though as pace doesn't count for much I'll keep you updated on my first season of the championship. My players are heroes. With a season preview of an expected finish of 21st and nothing more required from the board than to fight bravely against the inevitable and expected relegation, we somehow managed a miracle : We clinched the title on the penultimate weekend against long time league leaders Dulwich Hamlet but the season was so much more than that with a rollercoaster ride of victory snatched from the jaws of defeat and many a defeat snatched from the jaws of victory, but ever single time the boys just bounced back to upset the odds in the next game. Through the season there was a constant income of free agents (17 to be exact, and 4 loans for depth early on) but there were 3 players that stood head and shoulders about the rest. Sean Marks - 36 goals from 45 games. It was more than the number it was the importance, it was the amount of winners that he got us either late on or early in boring 1-0 wins. Sean has a contract for life for what he has done this season and as soon as his playing days are over he has the pick of any backroom job he wants. Brad Warner - 31 goals from 41 games. Unlike Sean's goals Brad regularly got his goals in the more high scoring wins but with an eye for the spectacular and the knack for some lovely freekicks he is well and truly a member of my new favourite front two in FM. George Saunders - 12 goals, 20 assists from 48 games. Where with Sean and Brad it was mainly about goals with George its goals, assist and non-stop consistency. There was never a game where you though George isn't playing well we need to sub him. He might not have grab the headlines with stunners like Brad or won use games so clinically as Sean but he was rightful one of the first names on the team sheet and the one you knew you could rely on come rain or shine.
