That Henderson-Sterling play was ****ing ridiculous from Jordan. Henderson gets a lucky deflection back to Sterling but then doesn't realise he's got a clear path to goal that Raheem can play him in. When we have midfielders that don't realise they can score by making a simple sprint towards goal we're always going to struggle for goals.

He doesn't look to do the easy pass either. He looks to play the smart pass. He's playing for a manager that wants him to play a certain way, with his brain. Not just run at defenders if there's nothing to be gained. And besides he took the full back on plenty of times in 1v1 situations today. And finally he's 17. What kind of person are you calling a kid a bottler?

Lucas was brilliant today. Showed why we missed him so badly. I don't remember any clear chances for Southampton from inside the box (though I didn't see the final 20 mins or so,) we were just so much more solid defensively. Sat back a little too much in the 2nd half though, if we'd have played with the same fluency as the first we could have had another goal or two. Still not got enough cutting edge, but the three points are what matters most.

People need to easy of Sterling. He is only 17 for christ sake and has been IMO and most would agree with me your second best player after Suarez this season. How many 17 year olds can step into a prem team, let alone Liverpool and perform virtually 90 mins every week and dribble past players, track back and link that excellently with Suarez. He has been magnificent for someone his age and without him Suarez would not have quite a few of his goals and I think you may well be languishing further down in the table

His end product and decision making needs improving dramatically via training. He seems to almost always pick the wrong decision in the final third. Hes trying to play a brand of football he just cant play yet. He should stick to his strengths; which is finishing pace and workrate. The rest will come with age, experience and training.

So what do you expect him to do with his decision making? Play it safe? Try things and if they don't work, learn from that and don't try it again in the future? Stand looking all confused an indecisive? If all else fails give the ball to Gerrard? Make the right decision every time and always pull it off?

Players twice his age have worse decision making, and worse technique at executing those decisions.

He's 17 ffs, genuinely criticising any part of his game to do with the mental skills that come with experience is outright ridiculous.

Like I said, he should stick to what he knows. Running at fullbacks, taking on players and causing issues that way. Currently hes trying to be too technical with his passing, trying to outsmart men whi can read him like a book when he tries his passes in the final third and he caught out quite a bit. Or he'll try things he just can't do yet and bottles the chance because he simply can't pull of things hes trying to do. Its his first season, he should just stick to what he knows and is effective.

jesus ssn you are seriously questioning a 17yr old that has shown good form?

17

17

17

edit - he is only starting to play in the premiership. he is still learning. yet you seem to expect him to be some sort of finished product?

of course he isn't the finished product, and i suspect few on here expect him to be. for his age though, the boy has shown great talent.

an aside though, mentioned previously by someone, is that the team rafa had in place seems to have been quite good at spotting talent. you look at the guys that have put up their hands and think if managed well the future for this team looks good.

I have been going anfield since 92 and today was the worst atmosphere I have ever seen at anfield. I think the loudest the crowd got apart from the goal was when hearing the Chelsea score or when the announcer said Swansea substitution instead of Southampton.

First half wasn't too bad some good play should have scored more than the 1 goal but second half we were very very poor. Slow play, players static, didn't press high enough. My man of the match would be Enrique who made some great long range passes and great dribbling runs. Gerrard looked better with Lucas in the side as allowed him to play further forward though did still hit a few stray passes.

Sterling no end product today, decision making not good but he is 18 still learning the game and can't be good every game. Shelvey was our worst player today.
