Not a moan but it is a bit strange to potentially jump from the BSN to the Championship, although some managers have done it in the past (Nigel Cloughs move from Burton to Derby springs to mind) but it doesn't happen often. I understand what you're saying as quite a few managers IRL make the step up from the BSN/BSP to L1/L2 level. I think what Pangaea meant was jumping from the BSN to the Prem, or at least I think he was as he said from tier 6 to tier 1. As you say, I don't think it's unreasonable to think a struggling L1/L2 side would look to a successful manager a couple of leagues below them. Come on The Ravens, another promotion! Indeed! I think we may have hit the glass ceiling now though after such a rapid rise. Raware Posted December 12, 2011 Author Share Posted December 12, 2011 Coalville Town Season 2014/15 : Mid-season update Blue Square Bet Premier : We knew we were going to be in for a difficult season and it’s been just that so far as we hit the halfway mark of the season with ourselves languishing above the relegation zone, just 8 points above it. While we seemed too good for the Blue Square Bet North last season, I can’t help but feel that we’re not quite good enough for the Blue Square Bet Premier and maybe our rapid rise through the divisions was too quick; maybe we could’ve of done with a few consolidation seasons in the BSN. Relegation is still most definitely a possibility for us and considering our recent 8 match winless streak, we need to turn things around quickly or face an immediate return to the Blue Square Bet North. The man I’m pinning our hopes on is our usual saviour, Alan Lynch who’s grabbed himself 13 league goals so far (14 in all competitions). He must continue his good form throughout the remainder of the season though for us to stand any chance of survival…and of course, avoid injury, something which we’ve not managed to do this season with at least 3 players out at the same time amongst the squad. Onto the cup competitions and it’s been hit and miss for us with us once again going out at the 4th round Qualifying stage of the FA Cup, this time to Lowestoft of the Blue Square Bet North but making it to the 2nd round of the FA Trophy where we play Bishop’s Stortford away. If I’m honest, I couldn’t really care about cup competitions this season, my only aim is to keep us in the Blue Square Bet Premier. My aims for the remainder of the season… : Simple…to stay up! I think even teams as far down as 10th still have a chance of making a push for promotion. I'd be happy sitting in your position. I'm more than happy with our progress so far this season. It's actually a refreshing change to have a relegation battle on my hands, which is what we should have after such a rapid rise through the divisions. I do try and play the game as realistically as possible (including transfers and scouting) so when we had 3 straight promotions, my interest in this save did wane a little. Raware Posted December 13, 2011 Author Share Posted December 13, 2011 Despite us struggling in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season, I must be doing something right as I’ve received my first job offer I’ve asked to delay the decision for a week but I think I already know that I will reject the offer as they’re struggling in League One, have a fairly poor squad, have financial issues and look likely to be relegated. I rejected the offer as it just didn't feel right. Hartlepool are in a poor state and I feel that they're on a downward spiral...fast. So, it seems that after numerous cash injections to keep the club afloat, our chairman has finally decided that the time is right to hand the club over to other investors as I received these pieces of news in my news ticker… Good or bad news…I’m not sure. While it’s not the millions of pounds of investment I wanted at least the club is back in the hands of the fans… …and at least the new chairman has given me a chance to maneuver in the transfer market now by freeing up some cash…however, that comes in the form of a £325k bank loan in which we’ll be paying back £1.5k per month. As you can see, they haven't invested any funds but have taken out a loan which does free up a little bit of cash for us, in the short term of course. I can understand the 'not feel right' feeling. But we have to look at the long term and making the upgrades we have are necessary if we want to progress to the next level even if it means going into debt. Raware Posted December 16, 2011 Author Share Posted December 16, 2011 Coalville Town Season 2014/15 : Review Blue Square Bet Premier/Blue Square Bet Premier progress/ (Due to an issue regarding the selection of fixtures, I’m not able to provide a screen shot of the league fixtures) : We knew we were going to be in for a difficult season and an immediate return to the Blue Square Bet North was very much a possibility with everyone tipping us to go straight back down. But after a slow start to the season which left us perilously hanging above the relegation zone at the mid-season point, we managed to string a few results together to go on and finish mid-table, 13th in fact to by far surpass the boards and my own expectations! FA Cup : Out at the 4th Qualifying round stage again to lower league opposition . We just didn’t turn up. FA Trophy : Out in the early stages of the competition again but really my priority this season was to stay in the BSP. Transfers : Again, our poor financial state meant we had to look to the free transfer market if we wanted to get players in. And we did as some good players joined us this season in the form of Steven Gregory, Adam Marriott, Alex Goodman, Hichem Slimani, Liam Dick, Callum Gallgher, Steven Lennon, Elton Monteiro, Chimdi Akubuine, Jamie Richards, Jake Buxton and Bruno Pilatos. Squad : I did worry that given the pre-season predictions from both the media and our board, we’d really struggle to stay in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season. But I needn’t had worried as the group of players we brought in gelled well with the existing players we had to eventually help us finish well above where we were predicted to finish. As usual, and I seem to say it every year now, Alan Lynch was our star player as he hit 20+ goals again for the 4th season in a row which now takes him to a record 89 league goals for the club (for a player that scores so consistently, I’m amazed no club has tried to come in for him yet). I was also pleased with our Angolan connection on the right side of our squad as both Bruno Pilatos and Laste Dombaxe seemed to form a quick understanding and produced some fine displays throughout the season. One other area I was pleased with this season was the newly formed central defensive partnership of Jake Buxton and Jamie Richards who will be key for us over the next few years due to our current defensive duo Marlon Broomes and Pedro Miguel Cardoso Monteiro leaving the club at the end of the season. Both players have been fantastic servants to the club and an integral part of our rapid success of the last few years. But age catches up with us all and they were caught out a few times this year at this level. Should either of them go into coaching/scouting though, I’ll definitely look to bring them back to the club such is the fantastic service they’ve shown to us over the last few years. Finances : Looking a lot better now we’ve got a new board and chairman but that’s only down to a £325k loan that they took out. Hopefully the reason we went into debt (stadium expansions) will start to repay us over the next few seasons in the form of higher gate receipts. My views of the season… : A great season for us especially as no-one gave us a chance of survival this season. My aims for next season… : People will still have us down as one of the weaker teams in the division but I’m hoping for another season of consolidation. Mid-table again and I’ll be happy. Marlon Broomes has been excellent for us over the past few years but has started to show his age is catching him up this season as he got caught out a few times. I think he's done well though to carry on playing till 37. I'm feeling it when I play now and I'm 31! Echoing what others have said already, that was a solid season of consolidation. I think it may be a while now though before we get our league winning streak back on as there's some good teams in the BSP and the gulf between leagues is now becoming more apparent. To back up my belief of a mid-table finish are the signings we’ve made during pre-season. It’s been a while since I’ve been excited at pre-season but the signings of Robbie Willmott on a free, former Brentford man Janjic Zlatko on a free, Michalis Tsakogiorgas for £6k and Mihai Popa on a free, both from Colwyn Bay, Todd Kane from H&W Welders on a free and Jordan Pearce from Blyth on a free lead me to believe that we’ve added some real quality to squad, quality that we were missing last season.
