Happy birthday JJay. *Shakes head* at Gilles![]()
Happy Birthday dude.
Wiki man
Happy birthday JJ. Must do some work on the wiki soon, I haven't done much in ages.
Happy Birthday JJay!
Did SI send you an email, wishing you happy birthday?
They did to me![]()
I got happy birthday PM from a mod on here a few months back. Best thing about it was that it wasn't even my birthday![]()
I think they send everybody an email.
Alan - Sorry about the delay for the graphics page, i have a French Oral still to go and i am getting loads of homework at the moment, so everything else is on hold for a while![]()
I will definately be free by the 17th July as that is the day that school breaks up for meStill a month to go though
[]()
Happy belated JJay.
SI were the first ones to wish me happy birthday, as I got my email on June 12th. Time zones.![]()

Over 1000 pages
Hi Jod
Happy Birthday JJay
KUTGW everyone else
Sorry I haven't done anything for a bit, my computer is broken so I haven't had access to the internet. Only occasionally get online now, and thats on mymums netbook which is too small for me to use easily...
Hopefully you can get a new PC soon Jammy
And KUTGW to everyone as well, some more contributions from me should be coming in around 3 weeks![]()
Good to hear from you Hamilton
I've made a new template called Player Profile Stubs, will anyone putting a stub tag on a player profile please use this template instead from now on. It makes it easier to differentiate between player profile stubs and the other stubs.
Just another idea regarding the player profiles: How about leaving profiles un-categorised (keeping the stub tag though) until they have some FM-related content? Mightn't be the best of ideas, but I'd like to know what you think anyway.
hey lads i havent checked on your wiki in some time but i just wanted to ask a question
has the player profiles been devolped to include anything about FM or are they still jsut a copy and paste from wikipedia
No problem AlanGraphics Pack page is nearly finished, so it should be posted within a few days. I have finished this year's exams now
I also have an INSET Day on Friday
MeLikeFM - Yes they have been edited to include FM related info![]()
Most of the profile pages are still missing FM info iirc.
What's an inset day?
A teacher training dayMust be called something else in Ireland. It means that the student's don't have to go in
[]()
Aha. Yeah it must be a UK thing, it's called an inservice day mostly over here.
I'm making a page on how to use some of the basic wiki commands now (eg how to categorise pages of make headers), for anyone who is unsure of how.
That might be of use to me TBH![]()
Here it is. There's still a bit that I haven't included, but I will as soon as I think of it.
Also, the site's been vandalised over the last week or so by new users such as Buy Viagra and Buy Breast Enhancement Gum. Not sure exactly what he's trying to achieve by doing this, but each to their own I suppose![]()
ThanksThat should help me an awful lot, the tools on the Wiki were very confusing (Well, for me anyway
)
Nah, it's not that hard, just takes a bit of getting used to. Look at the edit section of pages that use commands you'd like to use and see what the code is. That's probably the easiest way to find out.
True. But because I edit a page every month or so, i'm not that used to them![]()
Does anyone know how hall of fame points are calculated?
I'd also like to know where you get your FM graphics and stuff like that from? I'm trying to expand on the useful links page fwiw.

IIRC
League Title = 2 * League Rep
Cup Title = League Rep
I get my graphics/downloads from the Skinning Hideout, FM Baseand Sortitout SI AlanDon't know whether that helps or not tbh.
I was just wondering if anybody could tell me if this article is correct and if so where do i save the notepad file for the game to recognize it
http://www.footballmanagerwiki.co.uk...your_own_regen
Yes, it is correct. Probably best if you look at this page, it tells you how to handle EDTs. Remember that you have to start a new game for it to take effect. If you've any other questions just ask.
Cheers, any idea what a Champions League title is?
Think I have most of the links from those sites in, let me know if there are some missing.
Most of the profile pictures will be taken down tomorrow and I'll re-upload them to me photobucket account. If anyone has the time to help me sort out the pictures please let me know, because it's going to take AGES otherwise.
CL title = 80 points
UEFA Cup title = 40 points
I'll check whilst on the game later Alan.
Not entirely sure tbh.
Just came back into GD and i'm supprised at how much work (Or lack of) has been done![]()
Rest assured that i'll be doing some more work on pages soon. Just 1 week of school left![]()
In fairness, we never had that many people working on the wiki at the same time. When a few users take a break it's bound to happen.
Any ideas on what we should be focussing on now?
Player profiles imo. Do you think I could try and get permission to ask around in the GPTG to ask people to add a little bit of player info from FM onto pages? I think HoPeY and Purefun would be cool with a post in some club threads if I ask them first.
I also suggest the player profiles.
Jammy - That would be a great idea and I think that HoPeY and Purefun would agree to that like we have for our club guides.
Edit: Is there a system that we can use where only admin can accept new accounts? I, for one, am unhappy with the number of multiple accounts (most probably from the same user) and the names in particular that the accounts are called.
Last edited by ssestig; 11-07-2009 at 18:11.
Yeah it would be nice to get some FM related info into profiles. Go for it.
Vandalism - What we could do is restrict access to accounts until an admin has approved them. The downside to this is that I've noticed a few guys register to the site and make edits just a few minutes after signing up. Restricting accounts like this would make it even more inconvenient for new users.
To be honest I don't really give a crap about what this guy/spambot does. I can block him, delete his page and re-name his account in a matter of seconds. I just find it a bit sad that someone would spend their spare time doing this.
I'll send a PM to one of them and ask about it then
ALSO: As there is no more room left on the site (I don't think) shall we make a Photobucket account for fmwiki - so we can have everything in one place? Would be a lot easier to control than having lots of pictures everywhere.
Last edited by arsenal_2111; 11-07-2009 at 19:24.
Jammy - I have spoken to jjay about it and forwarded all the pics to be deleted to him. Hopefully he'll have it sorted soon.
Oh right - so there will be more room left soon?
Yeah, loads.
Good to hear.
Purefun has said that, in principle, it is ok to make a thread about player profiles. Just going over some details with him, but it should be okay![]()
Who gave you lot permission to use my Pjanić screenshot eh?![]()
Hold on a minute, I see a fair few of my screenshots used. Cheeky
I'll do the mainstream Lyon players and youngsters.
I'm going to do some for Arsenal players, I've done quite a bit of time on Arsenal saves so should be able to do them quite well.
And generally some other players when I get bored of Arsenal players.![]()
I've been talking to the infamous ahmufcwafc (Alan) about the Walsall page. I noticed there are quite a few players on the player list that aren't at the club any more and our new signing's aren't on the list either. Would it be okay for my to edit this so that either the players no longer appear on the list or that there is a (*) next to the player to say they will be at a certain club in FM10. Or should it be left until FM10 is out, so the squads are the same for the start of the game.
Just a thought.
I'd be happy to edit the Walsall page for you, if no one else already does![]()
You could just put brackets next to those that have left the club e.g.
Peter Pyr (At Charlton in real life)
Or for those who have just joined put
Alan Nobby (At Peterborough on FM 9.3.0)
or similar?
Yeah, it's best to have an updated squad list. How you show it is up to you![]()
What i've been doing is using the squad lists from Wiki for teams then add any players that have moved on since the release of the 9.0.3 patch after looking on the game.
Just updating any players that have been released/sold by clubs from the January transfer window eg. Adding Antonio Valencia to the Wigan page despite his recent transfer to Man Utd as he was a Wigan player during the 08/09 season.
Sounds like a good idea to me
I'd like to know what you guys prefer - should we stick to the current disclaimer or use a disclaimer like the one at the bottom of this page? The second one takes up less space, but that isn't necessarily a good thing.
I prefer the boxed one tbh.
Alright lads. I made the changes like adding (Will be at ____ on FM10) etc. Am I alright to keep doing this for our new players? (Josh O'Keefe has just signed.)

It is necessary to sign up before making any edits at this time due to anonymous users abusing the system in the early days of this site.
Starting a new page
Type whatever you want to name the page in the search bar and hit 'go'. Then click 'create new page'.
Categorising Pages
After making your page, it's very important that you put the page in the correct category so that it will show up on the index page of the appropriate category. What you need to do to categorise your page is stick one (or more if necessary!) of these at the end of your page:
Code:
Stub Tags
These are to be used on pages you feel lack content in one way or another. To use them put stub on the page you feel should be tagged. Stub index.

Main Header
This header is the same size as the page title header. I wouldn't use it unless the page requires quite a lot of sub-categories, like this page for example.
Secondary Header
Most commonly used header.
Another smaller header
Use this when making a point linked to the one made in the secondary header.
Inserting Tables
If you were to type this into a wiki page, the result would be like so:Code:{| border="1" |Team |Date |- |Argentina |1 August |- |Barbados |19 September |- |}
Embedding Images
Not possible at this time due to lack of space. We will update this page when the issue has been resolved.

Will ask CP to put this into the OP later. Is there anything I've missed out on? (Pretty sure I've forgotten to mention a thing or two)

Could someone possibly message me Walsall's information from FM? I don't have 09 installed atm.
Cheers![]()
That looks excelent AlanI can't see anything that could be added really, it looks fantastic as it is
[]()
Cheers Tom, still think I left something out though! I'll leave it 'till tomorrow to think about it.
Anyone think it'd be a good idea to have pages on some more FM fansites as well as just FM WeeGiE? I could go around to the 'FM Scene' section of most fansites and ask if they want a bit of free advertising on the wiki, would do no harm imo. If someone else would like to go around and do it feel free, pretty sure it won't be our representative either way though...
What about starting a brand new thread?
Might be pushing our luck starting a new thread. We're lucky to be allowed a thread here as it is. Not much difference between starting a new thread and changing the OP imo.
I guess it doesn't really matter but the first few pages have little relevance to the new OP. Also the original purpose of the thread was to set up a wiki, and now we have that in place the focus of a new thread would feel more relevant to the expansion and growth of an established wiki. And finally it would be more relevant to have the wiki thread started by you alan than CP, no offence to him but you have been pretty much running the show.
Well anyway it's no big deal, just my opinions for giving the wiki a bit of a fresh start.
Yeah I suppose that is a fair point, the first lot of responses wouldn't make a whole lot of sense with the new OP in place. It's up to you guys, if the general feeling is that we need to start a new thread then I guess we could ask a mod for his opinion on the situation.
One thing I fear is that a mod might move the thread to the fansites forum, and that's a graveyard.
Last edited by ahmufcwafc; 14-07-2009 at 04:15.
Personally I wouldn't like a new thread - after all if Ross hadn't have made the thread the site may not even exist.
You could easily make a note at the bottom of your post saying that the first few pages were focused around creating the actual site, and that the proper discussion starts later on.
Just my opinion though.
Jammy - I agree. Alan should alter the OP slightly to explain what the first few pages are about. No point in starting a new one IMO![]()
Seems like a good time to start up an FM10 page now after the twittergate fiasco
I'll get something up later today.
Just an idea - how about we track all new features given out by SI if they are drip-fed like last year? I think it would be a good idea to have a definitive list instead of details scattered all over the internet.
Yeah, I reckon that's a good idea.
Got to have a page on Twittergate too tbhCould ask Miles to write up something about how he made the error
Maybe we could ask SI if they would be interested in including us in the announcements, saying that a list of all new features will be on fmwiki? Might be pushing it, but we haven't had any prizes as an affiliate so we deserve something![]()
Pretty sure that we'd have to pay to get the right to reveal some new features instead of, lets say HMV. Also, we have asked for prizes so they should be coming shortly
How we're going to organise the competition is undecided as of yet.
I meant when they announce them, we could put them up straight after or something
Personally I think it would be better to use the featured article section on the right to do a small bit about the competition, then make a competition page on the site. Then do email admins@footballmanagerwiki.co.uk for answers.![]()
We'd hardly have to ask permission to post up something that's already been made public?
We could put a competitions thingy in the sidebar instead of having it spam the featured articles page.
I don't mean that - I mean to ask SI to tell people, when they announce new features, that a list of all announced new features will be on the site. I'm being so unclear
Doesn't show up very much though to be honest - at least for the first one it needs to attract attention.
Also, how do you make those templates (e.g. this was made by HoPeY etc) EDIT: Never mind, done it
[]()
I don't think the site's in association with SI for releasing new features would be too happy if SI said "Oh and by the way, you can catch the full list of features on footballmanagerwiki.co.uk!". Would probably cause a drop in hits on that particular site. You also have to remember that most of the other fansites will be keeping track of features as well, so I wouldn't expect any special treatment.
We could always modify the site logo to mention the competition and ask a mod to change the title of this thread. The sidebar is used a lot more than you might expect.
Interesting fact to back up my point - our current events page has had 7,000 hits while our featured articles page has only had just over 100.
Anyone know what the '!'s next to some edits are?
Minor edits iirc.
Ah right, that makes sense![]()
yo creators of the wiki
on the create your own regen page, you could tell the reader where to save the file!
cheers
cheers mate, especially for the quick response![]()
It is now there mate thanks to Alan.
Edit: Beaten by the man himself.
can someone tell me how to create a page on the wiki, i'm a member already and can't remember
Just type whatever you want the page to be named into the search bar, hit go then click create page![]()
thanks man very easy don't know how i didn't figure it out myself
woo my first page has just been created woo woo
Very nice work man! Never knew about that myself so I'll be doing that from now on![]()
I didn't know about that either - very useful!
Madness how much info we have in the FM10 page atm - imagine what it's gonna be like when all the features have been released![]()
Oh, and do you think we should keep FM10 on the main page? Was re-organising the front page today and accidentally put FM10 in instead of 09. So what do you think - 09 or 10?
I've spent the last couple of hours just sorting out the site, removing unused files, categorizing pages that didn't have a category (all that need one have one now), fixing broken redirects, cutting down a couple of long pages (David Beckham in particular) and generally tidying it up a bit. Look in the recent edits, you'll see
-----------
But now I think we have to sort out the player profile side of the site.
Whilst it is fantastic to have so many pages on the site, I feel the fact that roughly 80% of them do not contain our own work dampens the feeling of success we can get from this.
I feel it would be much more pleasing for us and much more useful to readers if players profiles focus around the Football Manager Information. Of course, having some background information is very nice as it allows the reader to get to know the player.
However, I feel that as much of this background information as possible should be written by ourselves, or at least reworded from Wikipedia.
In my opinion it is better to have a short history of the player (much like the introduction on a normal Wikipedia page) and a normal FM info section and to generally have a shorter article that is related to the game than to have longer history with normal FM info.
Of course, this is not just me who is doing this site. So I'd appriciate as many comments as possible on this issue, especially from Stig who has put in a lot of work to these.
Cheers(By the way, if this doesnt make sense it's because its 3 in the morning and i'm knackered)
---------------------
It's almost half 3 so I'm off for the night - you lot can talk about the player profile stuff whilst I'm at work tomorrow![]()

Alan
The Feeder Clubs page was similar to the Affiliated Clubs page, so I deleted the Feeder Clubs one and put everything from that onto Affiliated Clubs. Affiliated Clubs. I've left it there for now, if you think it is best to have both.
Also, what are the categories Italy, Africa, League Guides, North America, Oceana, South America and Spain for? None of them are used for anything, so I assumed these weren't needed. What sort of page would be in the above categories?
I would have no problem to sort this out over the summer Alan.
Ah, fair enough - you can delete them then
Those categories haven't been sorted yet but they could be used in future. They're invisible atm anyway.
Ah good. Wasn't myself that pointed it out (jammy) but cheers anyway. Suppose you're all used to my long posts of rubbish here that you just assume it's me whenever there's a big wall of text![]()
Sorry mate. It is usually you though who does the long posts like that though![]()
Haha no worries mate
Just wondering if the site goes down all the time for any of you guys? Using firefox and it says "cannot find server" half the time I try to visit the wiki. I just tried it out on opera and I don't seem to be getting these problems anymore.
Must ask someone to edit the OP later on. Think I'll add a bit more to it before I ask - is there anything at all that you guys have seen my doing that you'd like to know how to do?
