dafuge's FM10 challenge

Recommended Posts

3 days left of the Jan transfer window and still clinging onto my players, thankfully bids have only been for the players values but if they go above that then I think they'll be sold, still in the play offs as well with no real injury problems anymore, also Di Santo hasn't been missed as my Spanish backup has scored 2 in 3 games since stepping in for him.

In my game Bolton signed him for £12k from CSKA Sofia and then sold him to Huddersfield for £800k last year, currently plays in the championship for them! Good news is the transfer window has ended and we have only sold Di Santo, but we weren't able to sign anyone else either as my wage bill is full.

Blimey. Are you going to start again? Or just try something else?

What actually went wrong?

Well we were doing okay after about 16 games, then the strikers started missing sitters and my goalkeepers started letting in every shot on target. Morale was screwed and I couldn't turn it around. Still only 3 points from safety :(

Table

Positions

FA Cup - 1st Rd

FA Trophy - 1st Rd replay

Brought in quite a few signings at the start, mostly from scotland and was inconsistant in form for the first few games before going down the league. The turning point was signing Camano to boost the defence and after a few rocky games to start with, the team improved dramaticaly around xmas and shot up the table. Going into the last game the team was level on points with both Salisbury and Weymouth but with a much worse goal difference. A last day loss to Eastbourne ultimately meant nothing as Salisbury won.

In the playoff semi-final i won 2-0 away and then 1-0 at home in the second leg against Lewes. The playoff final was a rematch against Eastbourne and turned out to be quite comfortable.

The FA cup ended in the first rd with a 0-2 home loss to L2 Bournemouth, a game where the difference in class was very evident. In the FA trophy i went out at home to BSP York in the 1st Rd replay, losing 1-3 after extra time after dominating both matchs and missing a crucial penalty 5 mins from normal time in the replay.

Squad

Transfers

In goal Gallacher was reasonably dependable with Griffiths good backup.

In defence Bailey and Hunter were the main fullbacks with Edgehill filling in for frequent injuries with all 3 doing well.

In centre defence Camano was signed in Oct after being recommended by my ass man.

He picked up 3 reds in his first 6 games but improved when i tweaked his tackling down.

Hartshorn played well all season with his limited ability and Thomas was a decent backup at CB and RB.

The midfield played well but will have to be improved for next season. Clarke and Morgan did well although Clarke is declining. Creswell was a cheap backup.

On the wings Watts did well and although Wheeler and Barrowclough did ok they need to be let go and replaced.

Up front McShea was in great form until ruled out for the season in feb with a broken foot. Kisuka and Fitzharris stepped up so he wasn't missed.

Shroot, Millar and Rodgers were signed the day before the first leg of the playoffs and will improve the squad for next year.

Star Player - Fitzharris started in good form before hitting a lull, but exploded with goals after McShea got injured forming a great partnership with Kisuka.

Just finished the season and we managed to stay in 6th place, mainly thanks to our ability to restrict teams from beating us this season. We only lost 9 games all season but drew too many to have given us a real chance of automatic promotion unfortunately but I feel happy we've given ourselves a chance of promotion still. The other 3 teams in the play offs are Coventry, QPR and Southend so we shouldn't be afraid of anyone really. Infact there was only 8 points seperating 3rd to 6th so I feel we have everything to play for.

The real positive is after selling Di Santo in Jan for 1.9m I couldn't get one of the strikers I fancied to replace him and ended up promoting Spanish youngster Gavilan from the bench and he rewarded that with 23 goals from 35 starts.

I actually have a really big worry, one of my main stars has had to miss games four times this season with the same injury, a neck injury which has resulted in him needing to see a specialist every time, I really hope this isn't something that causes his career to end short as he looks like a top class left back and future Spanish international.

My favourite player Craig Rodger just made his 150th appearance, in which he scored his 100th goal in just his 4th season of football. A great landmark for a fantastic player. He has been one of few bright sparks this season with a return of 15 goals in 13 appearances. We struggled for form when he suffered the first injury of his career as we sit 16th in League 1 after 15 games. But with our form improving and a game in hand i'm hopeful we will do our usual late push for the playoffs.

G. Keenan's FC United- 2010/2011 Season Review- Blue Square North

Well, first season in the books and it went better than expected, I didn't quite manage promotion but a fine run of form down the stretch run of the season allowed me to squeak into the 5th play-off position. I drew Worcester in the playoff semi final and won the first leg 1-0 (home leg), but then crashed out with a 2-0 defeat in the 2nd leg. In the FA Trophy I lost in the 2nd round and the FA Cup I lost in the 2nd qual. round.

Playoff semi final 2nd leg - a somewhat less interesting match than the 1st leg but we got the job done and are through to the playoff final:D

Edit: Got carshalton in the final, i lost away to them 2-1 and drew 0-0 to them at home altho wen i played them a 2nd time i was alredy guaranteed the playoffs so i put out a weakened side

Farnborough Town F.C. BSS 2010/11

Good start to the season but fiddled with my 5-4-1 mid season and dropped out of top five. Signed "Super" Kyle Wilson on a free at start of season but disappointed with his 17games and only 4 goals. I have a great regen DC who i may struggle to keep hold of, he was BSS player of the season and a fairly good regen striker who was my top goalscorer. Bought in about 20 players over the season, all free, due to my board giving me a transfer budget of £0, but my wage budget was quite high,so i was always under wage budget. Transfer listed several players but nobody was interested so they can all go when contracts expire.

It went down to the wire at the business end of the season and I mahaged to claim 5th spot for a playoff place. Beat Eastbourne over the two legs for a final place and beat Salisbury in the Final 2-0 to gain promotion to BSP at the first attempt.

Did nothing much in the cups which at this stage im not too bothered about.

Annoyed that having gained promotion I still have a transfer budget of £0, but on the up side the board nave increased my wage budget by about a £1000, so it looks like im after better free transfers.

Also the board will not allow any more than my 2 coaches which sucks.

Aims for next season are to stay clear of relegation, get rid of the deadwood and look to perhaps make a push for promotion in 2012/13

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about alternatives to the website, which most likely will not be relaunched for FM10. I think I have something that will work, but of course its design isn't as elegant as that of the website. It's currently a two-step process:

1) I'm using Google Forms to create a survey, which will allow us to update the records of our challenge. Everything gets stored into raw data.

2) I will export the raw data into Excel, and make use of Macros to analyse the raw data and produce some form of stats and table of achievements that is readable. I can then import this analysed data online so that it can be viewed online!

I've got (1) done! http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dEd2NGxrZmlVMjAwSW9IUVdBcTJkQ2c6MA

I will need more time to think about how (2) should be done. Right now, I guess I will need your help! Help me update your career progress using the above link. Once it has been populated with data, I will have something I can work and test with, and hopefully that will mean good news for everyone! =)

Important things to note:

- This system is very open to abuse. For example, anyone can upload an update in someone else's name, or upload rubbish data (e.g. a BSP team winning Champions League). I don't think there's anyway to get around this without making things too complicated.

- This post is already getting too long for my liking. I'll wait for everyone's feedback first.

- Please feedback! And if there are suggestions do post it here! Or any errors spotted etc

- I'm a closet dafugeschallenge fan, who follows the thread but doesn't post updates because.. I don't particularly enjoy the process of posting updates. This year perhaps? We'll see.

2013/14 - Tonbridge Angels - Blue Square Premier

I thought this season might be a tricky one but I was pleasantly surprised. If someone had said to me "I'll give you 9th place and 72 points" at the beginning of the season, I would've gladly taken it with both hands. But with the performance throughout the season, I'm very disappointed to finish 9th.

Media Prediction: 24th

League Finish: 9th

League Graph

The league graph pretty much sums up what I was saying previously. As good as we were, we couldn't keep up and eventually fell away into the top half.

FA Cup

The motivation of a home tie against Arsenal appeared for 10 minutes here before we stumbled away clutching a loss. Hereford were 2-0 down but came back to it and smashed us 4-2 which is a massive disappointment.

FA Trophy

Stevenage ended our dreams after a decent run. Again, we had taken the league through Ferreira but we couldn't hold it and after beating them previously in the BSP just days earlier, we couldn't hold on.

Transfers

I felt a massive overhaul was needed and we had to strengthen. If I do say so myself, this year's dealing were good. Most of the players made the first team. Oh, and just to show how difficult finding talent was, here is how many players I trialled this season.

Key Player Profiles

Gareth Parker - Gareth was the new rock at the back and solid all season. As well as his decent penalty-taking abilities, he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and that can only be a good thing.

Michal Dolinajec - Once again, another great season. This year's captain grabbed 16 goals and layed on another 15 to round up a great year.

Ashley Eastham - Another excellent, solid season at the back for Ashley. Alongside Parker, they were great together and totally unbeatable in the air.

Radoslav Vasilev - The Bulgarian had been released by the Glenn Hoddle Academy and I promptly snapped him up after he impressed in a friendly. He proceeded to tear up the BSP but sadly he had about three injuries which kept him out for a month at a time. Despite this, he still ended with 25 goals in 31 appearances. A marvellous contribution from the Bulgarian youngster.

i was just wandering anyone who has been promoted through the blue square south/north playoffs, what crowd did you get in the final?
I didn't win the final, but I got a crowd of 1229 at Darlington Arena, which weirdly was less than either of the semi-final legs.

Thenamesfang, I tried the form thing, although I'm not sure if it worked. It looks cool, but one thing that confused me is the league position page; I haven't finished my season yet, so I just put last year's results. Is that right?

Oi! How come I'm not in the big list thing there! I've got Hednesford you know!

All right, after a lot of looking around in the free transfer section this is my Opening Day starting lineup.

Opening Day

A lot of youngsters and I'm relying on 'Grandpa' Gavin Ward to have a good season in the sticks. Ben Kudjodi looks like he might be a keeper though.

Bringing in more Bulgarians on trial after the success I made out of Mihaylov. Maybe I can make football into a profitable business at this level, and traffick, ermm I mean help aid Bulgarians into England and English football ;)

I've finally found one who gets in my team: Plamen Dimitrov

The rest of the ones I've trialled have been rubbish :(

i was just wandering because i got around 3000 in my home semi final then in the final i only got 2300, bit strange

Looks like the crazy inconsistency is continuing this season.

We were in the relegation zone with just six points after 12 games. We then beat fellow strugglers Darlington 5-1 then follow it up with a comeback from a goal down to beat the league leaders 4-2.

Crazy stuff.
