Ok after struggling to create a good tactic on football manager since FM06 i've finally cracked it. Before i move onto the tactic i have to give massive credit to loversleaper, who's thread a bit further down the page on developing tactics helped me a great deal.

In my current game managing Oldham Athletic i've just finished the 2015/16 season my first in the premier league, having spent around 3 seasons in league 1 and the same in the Championship, using other tactics i found on this forum, some good some bad, but none consistent enough which played the type of football i wanted. I then stumbled across Loversleapers thread and created his tactics as he outlined in his thread, with pretty good success finishing 4th in the Championship and losing out on the play offs's i was predicted to finish 11th so not too bad but could be better.

The next season i decided i'd have a go myself and created 2 tactics a home tactic and a control tactic, alot based around what Loversleaper had outlined in his thread. I had an amazing season and got promoted as champions with 105pts. I used the home tactic at home and the control away, and the tactic played out just as i hoped it would.

Onto the Premiership then, well i was predicted to finish 18th and to be honest my squad in truth is really only a decent championship side, i struggled to bring in any quality signings as no player i was interested in would join my club, i dont like journey men, and my squad average age was just 21, and pretty much the same team that won the championship the season before.

I expected a season of struggle and so did my board, just hoping i fight bravely against relegation, what transpired blew me away i finished the season as runners up, as well as reaching the FA cup final, i did the double over Chelsea and Arsenal as well as beating Man Utd at home 5-0 i dominated possession in all my games usually around 60% and clear cut chances where usually better then the oppositions.

Due to the fact in all my games i was underdog bar 2 or 3 games i used the control tactic home and away and only used my home tactic if i was at home against lower league opposition in the cup.

Now for some screenshots.

Now for the type of player you need to look for:

Goalkeeper; Pretty much your standard keeper.

Full backs; Tackling, dribbling, crossing, Stamina and pace, as these will get forward often and supply crosses but also need to help out the defence.

Centre Backs; Tackling, Marking, Jumping, Concentration, Positioning, Pace (at least above 12 and one even quicker if you can) and Teamwork

DMC; Tackling, Passsing, Creativity, Strength. On the home tactic this guy will be your playmaker he also needs good passing and creativity as he will create alot of goals.

Wingers; Pace, Dribbling, Crossing, Stamina and off the ball.

MC; Passing and Creativity, this player links the play as well as creating goals

Strikers; Pace, Off the Ball, Finishing, and composure. The tactic is designed for two pacy forwards who will swap positions, it creates quite a few one on ones, so pace is needed in abundance but the tactic also creates a few crosses so if they are good in the air that would help also.

Version 2 of the tactics are for patch 9.3 of the match engine, if your running any other patch your best of downloading the original tactics.

Feedback would be welcome.

Thanks.

I am eager to try the tactic but it seems the links are broken. Could you post them somewhere else!

Just thought I would add my experience of using this tactic for reference. I started as Man City (with a data update that brought all transfers up to the start of this season, i.e. Tevez, Adebayor etc at Citeh). Before anyone says that this is just easy and not a challenge, I just want to point out that I am not looking for praise on how well I did, just wanted to point out my findings from the first season to help others.

So as I said, due to the data update and the vast sums of money available to City I had a really good team.

Given

Hutton

Richards

Toure

Bridge

Veloso

Quaresma

Barry

Silva

Adebayor

Tevez

(Notable Reserves - Lescott, De Jong, Wright-Philips, Robinho, Adriano)

You would expect success with this team with any tactic, but I have tried in the past and found it to be quite inconsistent. Using this set of tactics I found that the best thing to do was to start out with the Control tactic for all games. During friendlies I found that it worked better, so I stuck with it at the start of the season even when I was favourite. My thinking behind this was that even though I was favourite and had a good team, we still had to gel (according to the assistant the team had not yet formed a good understanding). So until they worked well together I stuck with control (almost all the time, I only switched to home for cups games against lower league teams).

I ground out results week in week out, generally by 1 or 2 goals. Even against the top teams (1-0 down after 50 seconds against Man U, but cam back to dominate and win 2-1). I remained unbeaten in 28 games in the league before losing to Arsenal and Liverpool in succession (88th minute penalty miss to tie the game against Liverpool).

About half way through the season I started using the home tactic more (but only when I was clear favourite at home, e.g. against Burnley). I should point out that I was put out of the League Cup by Liverpool in the early rounds. The league came down to a thrilling finale, with me 2 points ahead of both Man U and Chelsea going into the last game. I had a better goal difference (and a much better goal scored record) so I knew a draw would be enough. I scored about 20 more than Man U and Chelsea, but also conceded about 15 more than them. Went 1-0 in the 82nd minute against Everton and thought it was all over (both other teams winning) but a 88th minute equaliser won me the league by 2 goals over Man U and 4 over Chelsea. Went on to win the FA cup the following week against Aston Villa.

The players:

Top scorer was Adebayor with about 28 in the league (but he went I think about 8 games at the end without scoring). Robinho and Tevez each got about 15.

David Silva was player of the year with about 20 assists.

Had about 10 more goals from corners than anyone else too, coming from Toure and Richards equally.

My opinion: very strong tactic against any level of opposition, but sometimes it can go on droughts if the strikers aren't scoring. Very few goals from midfield for me. Conceded a fair amount too which wasn't great, but I almost always scored more, so it didn't really matter.

I will report back with how season 2 goes with champions league now in the mix. Already done my pre-season trading. Sold Tevez to Barcelona for £42M and put that towards the £52M I spent to buy David Villa. Also sold most of the guys that Man City have out on loan at the moment (Caicedo and Bojinov I think) and De Jong and Given. Brought in Akinfeev, Palombo, Ansnaldi and a few others as rotation players.

One tactic won't transform your team. This isn't a click three buttons and win a match kind of game.

Best tactical advice you can recieve is to take some time, study your team and then create your own tactic for your team. Eventually you'll get it right and will learn a lot more for doing so.

Also - make sure you all read the scout reports pre-match, they pretty much tell you which style to play in order to win.

On paper this looks great but is very inconsistent even with some super teams in sub par leagues, for the record in one game it produced some of the un sexy football I have ever seen with my man city team falling 2 behind to preston in the first 5 minutes. Not for me but thanks for the effort

I used this tactic with both Newcastle and a dutch-team.

With Newcastle using the tactics home and away tactics in proper places yielded very good results (aka, trebles etc.)

For the dutch team, on the other hand, control tactics didn't work. I couldn't score and kept conceiding. When I used the home tactic, even if it was away, I'd score lots and I'd Win 4-2 instead of losing 1-2.

My point is, using a tactic is not only a question of the team (which can be adjusted to your needs) but of the place you use it with. You can't beat the dutch league with defencive tactics, appearently.

I enjoyed this tactic for my Arsenal team because it relies on a good passing game. I will use the tactic on FM 10 and see what I get. I do hope someone does an update, but I tweaked the last version of this tactic a lot to fir the team
