New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Will a Alienware M17x R4-7263BK be anygood for FM?

My mate suggested it to me, he said I will have no problems at all (it will barely stretch a muscle running FM, nevermind over-heat)

For £1,400 I assume it should have no problems?

But it's running on Windows 7.. not windows 8, and it doesn't have a blueray disk drive. So I don't know how old it is.

I think I may look for something abit newer.

Not much wrong with my current Laptop, only had it about a year and it ran FM12 fine.

But with FM13, the fan is constanly making a loud noise while FM13 is running. I assume it's struggling to handle FM13? Or FM is causing it to over-heat?

There is also a lag when I'm trying to drag players on the tactics screen/match screen, and when I click away from and back to the 'inbox' screen. For a couple of seconds I can just see the Skin background image, untill the inbox messages finally appear. So I think my laptop is definitely struggling to cope with FM13.

Is your budget £450?

My misgiving with both of those is that the resolution on both of 1366 x 768 isn't that great, but I have a feeling that's pretty standard for 15" laptops.

Yeah £450. Can you find me a decent laptop that's in the big shops like comet, currys etc as i'm going into town tomorrow and buying one. Thanks

At $450 any machine you get from a shop in town is going to be at best average.

You'll make more of that money if you research online.

If you've gone into the shops to look for a computer, then you haven't done enough research to buy something genuinely good, so you may as well buy whatever takes your fancy since they're going to be much the same.

Depends on what you want to do with it. They're basically the same except the first one comes with more ram and the other has a better graphics card. For FM there's no difference whatsoever, as 4gb of ram is plenty and any dedicated graphics will do, but if you plan on playing any other games then go with the second one.

Decent enough processor, 4gb RAM, and a dedicated (although quite low end) graphics card so the 3D would be half decent. It does have quite a good screen too.

If you're not too worried about graphics, integrated ones should be fine for FM, and you'll be able to get a better processor, like with these two:

Just to add to this - swapping the RAM around in most laptops is generally quite straightforward and not that pricey - however graphics cards are quite a bit harder.

Hi guys, so I've got a question about this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1269327.html which seems quite popular in this thread. I'm looking for a laptop that will last for at least good 5 years, play FM whilst running other programs simultaneously (eg iTunes, multiple tabs open in firefox, maybe even video), and possibly one or two other games (nothing massively graphic intensive, just something like FIFA etc). Would it be able to do the job?

Also, what's the difference between that Acer and this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1152340.html which appears to be a poorer spec (1gb less gfx card) but the same price?

I just bought this laptop a few days ago.

i7 2.9GHz, up to 3.6 GHz

8GB RAM

1 TB Harddrive

Integrated graphics is the only real set back, but FM is the only game that I play, so that wasn't a huge negative for me.

Hi, some help would be appreciated for me also please. From reading through this thread I think either of these should do me. Pretty much just FM, watching movies and general internet use. The second one looks the better to go for to me, having the 3rd gen i5, and better integrated graphics card to go with it, however the first one has a higher rrp. Is this just due to the ram and hard drive, or am I missing something else? Any feedback would be appreciated.

if you've found one in pc world.. and if the price isnt bad.. id suggest that... otherwise, consider calling the manufacturer direct, they might be able to help. I've had joy in getting 20% or more off when calling direct for rarer items.

edit: i know curry's do it as well, but considering they are the same company as pc world.. i suppose that's to be expected.

I am looking for a laptop for my daughter. LOL she doesnt play FM but does play The Sims. Uses the net and youtube. Listens to Music.

edit: Oh just remembered her Hubby may want to play a bit of FM.

I am going to wait until after new year to get myself a new one for FM. Love this thread though.

Welshace what would you recommend for my daughter then? Hoping to hit the £400 mark if possible as not sure if The Sims needs a lot on a lappy.

you aren't going to get a super machine for that price so i'd be looking at something like this:

Exactly what i was looking for. Looks like a great machine for her and i always say to her, if you want to play music, either get good speakers to add to your pc or buy a good sound system. :)

I will be asking you again in the new year for my machine hehehe (If thats ok).

Thanks mate. The one at pc world/currys is 900 but I refuse to believe they are the cheapest as they are normally rip off merchants when it comes to laptops.

Will try and find a contact number thanks for that advice.

I have had a read on some other forums and they say its supposed to be stocked in the uk but availability has been sketchy t best.shame cause it looks like a cracking laptop for the American price :(

Just a quick word about Currys. They are in a bad way right now and could go bust so remember if you buy something from there and it goes wrong say in a few months, who knows if Currys will even be there to return it to. Warranty could be useless. Just a FYI...

@Craglyboy... You could buy from US and use a freight forwarding company to have it shipped? (myus.com is one such company) if the company wont ship to UK from US.

usually you can get 'in house' deals that arent listed online or anywhere else.. see what you can get but honestly.. you'll get more for your money from an online store

Between the import tax handling fees buying a new adapter, and having to put up with an American keyboard and waiting (patience isn't a sodding virtue) it hardly seems worth it.

I don't really want the laptop for any other use than basic computing and playing FM13, I never really play fm on anything more than 2 leagues and I'm not too bothered about the 3d aspect of it. There's numerous laptops on currys etc for around about £329/£350 which is what I'm looking at paying but a bit concerned as most of them don't meet minimum spec of 2.2ghz. Am I being optimistic with wanting a laptop in the price range of £350 to play FM? Any advice on what I should be looking at as literally no idea and want to spend as little as possible.

Any advise appreciated.

Being of the 'old git' variety, I would appreciate some help on this subject. I'm buying a laptop for my Grandson for Xmas, and hoping he will become part of the 'FM' scene. The above has already been helpful, but my Grandson also enjoys 'Minecraft' on line. Would this require a higher spec machine than the one's quoted as perfectly suitable for FM? What do you think 'welshace', or anybody else please...?

the trick is to get him something good enough for FM but not quite good enough for other games so he's forced to play and enjoy it.

so i went to currys earlier and couldnt help but feel i was being ripped off so didnt make any buys, thanks for the advice on that earlier,

my current laptop spec is below

Toshiba Satellite L450-13X

Processor: AMD Sempron 2.1ghz

RAM: 4GB

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics

1 core processor

64 bit operating system,

dont know what else to include on that, a few of questions-

1. Is that **** for FM?

2. If not, it seems to run slow especially through international fixtures and so on and euro cup fixtures, is this normal?

3. If its not normal what can i do to speed it up or do i need a new laptop?

i dont use the 3d match engine and normally only run 1 league at a time, but thats mainly cos its so slow,

Yeah, I won the voucher in a raffle so £200 isnt alot. How many cores does a Intel® Core™ i5-3330 have ?

As a bit of feedback in case it helps anyone, the Dell laptop from a page or two back is superb. Really happy with my purchase and thanks to Welshace and Eugene for their help. It runs FM at lightning speed. I've got 10 playable leagues running and another 10 or so as viewable and processing time is barely a second with each click of continue, even on busy in-game Saturday afternoons. Delighted with it.
