The race for the Whitehouse

‘I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’

The Race for the Whitehouse is over one third of the way in and the time has come for you to register for your vote.

This is how it works: upon completion of the sign-up there will be two pairs of candidates, the nominees and their running mates, each pair representing the two different political parties of the United States. By registering now, when it comes to the time for you to vote for one of them, you can do so. If you do not register, you will not be able to vote.

Registration opens as soon as this is posted (i.e. now) and will continue until late in the sign-up, probably around the 25th Primary (there are 30, at the time of writing 11 have been completed). After that, no more registration will be accepted.

Every voter that registers will be split into a state. Depending on the numbers of registered voters, some states will have more voters than others, as in real life states like California, Texas and New York have high numbers of votes, whereas Delaware, for example, only has the one. When the word is given, you can begin sending me your votes by email (a link will be provided).

Just to clarify, any candidates that are competing in the campaign are still eligible to register to vote, and in fact it advised that they do so, in case there is a situation where they can vote for themselves to win the election.

To register your vote, please complete the following form:

Username:

Favoured Party:

And then add “It’s a shame Joe Biden isn’t competing” to show that you’ve read this post (although to be fair, I probably won’t do anything if you don’t). Your favoured party is just for me to calculate voting statistics: you don’t need to stick to voting to this party.

What follows is a live table of the polls and also a news reel listing the events of the campaign, as they happened. There is also a list of the registered voters, which I will update as voters register.

You may now register to vote for your CSE President.

The Race for the Whitehouse

First Half Review

BBC News, 18th July 2008

Libby Anderson: And now, political news from across the Pond, and our U.S. Correspondent in Washington, Jonathan Beale has the full story.

Jonathan Beale: It’s just past midday here in Washington, just as the Race for the Whitehouse has just reached its halfway point. Candidates are currently touring the country in search of votes from their own party’s delegates in order to win their party’s nomination to run for office. With George W. Bush not being able to restand, there are 5 currently outstanding Republican candidates, and 4 outstanding Democrat candidates.

First off, there’s Mikey Twigge. He’s a Republican and currently Governor of California. Looking at the current polls, he lies in 4th place, but is only one point behind second place. He’s done exceedingly well in debates about the economy, and when the candidates visited New York, he won the state by a large margin.

Then there’s Little Clinton Jr.. You may recognise the name, but he has now relation to Democrat President Bill Clinton. He’s well known for his animal sympathies, and as a result gets a large proportion of the votes consistently. He is currently sitting in second place in the Republican polls, but as he does so well in debates about the Family, he could well be in office on the ticket of the People’s President.

Magnus Vestergaard is having a rollercoaster of a political campaign, and currently lies in 5th place after a poor result in Tennessee and Kentucky. He hasn’t had a remarkable campaign either way, but he specialises in Public Safety and is hoping to please his constituents in Utah by being elected.

Giuseppe Rossi is being earmarked as one of the strongest candidates and, as an ex-army general with typical Republican values, he certainly doesn’t lack experience. Soon the candidates will be touring in Rossi’s home state of Arizona and its neighbours, and it could be the perfect opportunity for him to regain the top spot that he lost last week in Tennessee and Kentucky.

The current Republican leader is Texas’s Lawrence Lazewski, a tactical person who focuses his debates on Foreign Policy. He’s been having a very good political campaign, and is bound to be there or there about, yet it is the one ticket to run for the Whitehouse that he is after.

And of the candidates running for the Democrat party, Jeremy American from Ohio is trundling along in 3rd place. He’s also a strong debater when it comes to Foreign Policy, however, he has achieved huge victories in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Idaho and Montana, none of which hosted debates about the rest of the world.

Lucas Volman comes from Washington D.C., and has until now been seen as a strong contender to feature in the top two or three once the tour of the country has been completed. However, recently his campaign is beginning to fail him, and for the last two primaries he hasn’t picked up any points. His focus is on the economy, and in New York he produced a landslide win, but he now sits in 4th place and is on the way down.

Robert Boyle is from Michigan and is competing to be the top Democrat. He’s come back from disadvantages to be in the running for the nomination, and excels in discussion of Foreign Policy. In his home state of Michigan he succeeded in a demolition of the rest of the party and now occupies 2nd place, 19 points behind.

The candidate he is behind is Chicagoan Tomaldinho, who leads the race and is an extremely strong candidate. As the only African-American candidate running, the 37-year-old, whose campaign focus is the Economy, could become the first African-American President, and also the youngest President at his inauguration. As well as in his home state of Illinois, Tomaldinho has performed well in Washington, Oregon and New York. However, there is a hurdle for the candidate as his financial backers have recently expressed their disappointment at some of his campaign messages, and there is speculation that those financiers will pull out and support another candidate. If that happens and Tomaldinho cannot find another backer soon, he will have to withdraw from the race.

And then there is the Democrat outsider. He is the only other candidate still giving a serious bid and NepentheZ from Kansas currently lies 29 points behind the other Democrat candidates. Focusing on the Economy, the 43-year-old won Indiana, Illinois and also both Dakotas.

The Primaries have not just been used to determine who shall receive each party’s nomination come the fall, but they also serve as a preliminary indication of how each party will fare in the election. At the moment, the competition between the Democrats and the Republicans is very tight, with the Democrats having won 14 states and the Republicans having won 13, but also having won Washington D.C. At 14-apiece, any party could win and any candidate could be that party’s figurehead. It is the most open Primary season of all time, and with 10 candidates still in the race, there is plenty more work to be done. Back to you, Libby.

The Washington Post, 17th October 2008

In a sudden but unsurprising press conference, Lucas Volman’s sponsors have decided to discontinue backing him for the Democrat Presidential nomination.

Volman had just come out of a poor week in Alabama and Georgia, where he accrued only eight points to fall into position as the fourth-placed Democrat. Although that might be a considerable factor in the decision of the large contributors to Volman’s slush fund, the growing financial crisis and yesterday’s strike at Boeing, who have contributed $30 million to the campaign, is also likely to be a main reason for the breakdown in Volman’s support.

This leaves the Republican Party and the Democrat Party level on their number of candidates, and seven each has been reduced to four each. Louisiana Republican Matheau Frith left early in the campaign, and Democrat Winston Walcott was assassinated weeks afterward. New York Governor Benjamin Franklin retired through illness and then Republican James Salter retired from the race and was later impeached after Primary 13. Finally, Texan Lawrence Lazewski ran from the law last month.

Volman, 41, enjoyed the best weeks of his campaign in New York, and his home region around Washington, D.C.. He led the race twice: for two weeks after Primary 11, ahead of Tomaldinho’s long reign at the top, and for one week after Primary 21. Now, however, he returns to his role as the Mayor of Washington, D.C., and esteemed position by itself.

Nevertheless, the D.C. United manager, born and raised in the nation’s capital, will be less than enthused by the collapse of his campaign and the final realisation that his chance at the Whitehouse is gone for at least four more years.

The latest action from the Race for the Whitehouse.

Keep registering to vote people! The registration deadline is at the end of Primary 29, which is due to be on Saturday (a week from tomorrow).

Ughhh ... what does that mean? :(

I can't vote, or cant be president? Can I register late?

You can't vote. It would be an extreme blunder if you were to qualify as Democrat nomination but lost out on the Presidency because you yourself couldn't vote.

You rallied for support but support does begin at home :).

The Race for the Whitehouse

The Washington Post, 8th November 2008

The Presidential candidates have edged ever closer to crunch time, having completed their Playoff Semifinals against teams from their own conference. NepentheZ’s Kansas City Wizards were in action against Chicago Fire, which makes it ever so fortunate that the 43-year-old didn’t choose Tomaldinho as his running mate. The first leg, at Chicago’s Toyota Park, ended 0-0, which was a fair result. Neither team played better than the other, and although goals were possible, goalkeeping was decent and the 7 shots on target spread over both teams were all saved or cleared.

Meanwhile, Giuseppe Rossi wasn’t so fortunate in the West. His opponent was on some kind of rampage, and looking to add a third victim to his attacks: Lawrence Lazewski from Texas. It could be argued that Rossi’s Chivas USA team had the better of the play, but they already found themselves 0-2 down before they finally got a goal. FC Dallas won the tie 3-1 after a penalty. However, Rossi would be at home in Arizona for the next match, where a 2-0 win would see him take the tie to extra time and or penalties.

However, the second leg would be easier for NepentheZ, with no deficit to overcome. His Kansas City Wizards team scored after just 6 minutes, and the hero Herculez Gomez scored a further two to secure himself a hattrick. This was peppered with a goal from Jimmy Conrad just into the second half, which gave the 2-0 advantage that seemed so small given the final 4-0 result, knocking out Tomaldinho’s Chicago Fire.

There was quite a bit of work for Giuseppe Rossi, but if FC Dallas could win 3-1 at home, why couldn’t Chivas USA? The first goal came in the 32nd minute from Sasha Victorine, while the last goal came in the 32nd minute from Sasha Victorine. The 1-0 win wasn’t good enough, and it probably wasn’t fair, given the ease with which Lawrence Lazewski’s old team had controlled the game.

In the other games, New York Red Bulls beat New England Revolution 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in Massachusetts, and Houston Dynamo, the former team of Matheau Frith, went through over Colorado Rapids 4-2 after a 2-2 draw in Commerce City, leaving NepentheZ as the only surviving manager: Little Clinton Jr., Giuseppe Rossi and Tomaldinho having lost. Lawrence Lazewski would be keen to add Matheau Frith to his hit list while NepentheZ would face the former team of ill candidate Benjamin Franklin.

The Race for the Whitehouse

NBC News, 15th November 2008

Debbie Rae: The political adventure that has been the Race for the Whitehouse is about to reach its conclusion, and as a special treat, our political correspondent Cal van Disney is here in the studio today. Cal, can you tell us a bit more about the last few days in the political world?

Cal van Disney: Yes I can, Debbie. It’s been an exciting few days, viewers, and the final stages of the Race for the Whitehouse are being staged. In just one week’s time, the Race will finish and the polls will open. Two nights ago, two ex-candidates competed in the Battle of Texas. Matheau Frith, I’m afraid, fell as the third victim of Lawrence Lazewski as his Houston Dynamo team lost 2-3 to FC Dallas. It was a tight game, Debbie, yet FC Dallas were crusing at one point, 3-1 up despite being at Dallas’s home stadium.

They struck first, of course, with Roger Levesque opening the scoring on four minutes. Although Dynamo dragged the scores level with a penalty, Levesque struck again and then Dax McCarty added a third just two minutes after Levesque’s second, leaving the home team trailing 1-3. A 53rd minute goal from Brian Ching wasn’t enough to escape from a place on Lawrence Lazewski’s hitlist for the defending champions, and Matheau Frith joins Winston Walcott, Jeremy American, Mikey Twigge and Giuseppe Rossi.

Debbie Rae: Thank you Cal. Now, today was another source of action as Presidential forerunner NepentheZ played in his match against New York Red Bulls.

Cal van Disney: Absolutely right, Debbie. Benjamin Franklin’s former team were the opposition for NepentheZ’s Kansas City Wizards side. The Community America Ball Park was the venue, and it was packed with over 10,000 spectators who watched NepentheZ secure a solid victory that sends him into the MLS Final. New York may have been said to have had the better of the shots, but they didn’t have the better of the match, Debbie. It took them extra time to do it but the Wizards got the win they deserved.

They were already 1-0 up by the time New York Red Bulls’ Dave van den Bergh scored, with American Herculez Gomez having scored in the 16th minute. The match stayed level until minute one hundred and thirteen, when a Duke Hashimoto goal flew in. NepentheZ and Lawrence Lazewski will square off in the MLS Final. It’s a bit unusual, as you’d expect the two candidates to be there, but one of them is and he’s looking for a win to elevate him to the Oval Office.

Debbie Rae: NBC News will keep you up to date viewers! Thank you, Cal.

Cal van Disney: Thanks Debbie.

The Race for the Whitehouse

The Kansas Informer, 24th November 2008

Kansas’s very own Presidential candidate NepentheZ triumphed last night over the belligerent Lawrence Lazewski. In a gripping MLS Final tie in Massachusetts, home of New England Revolution, Kansas City Wizards and FC Dallasbattled it out under the evening sun.

It was a tense game, and it was 11 minutes in when Herculez Gomez sent Democrats all across the country wild with excitement. However, only eight minutes after that, dreams of a better President were almost dashed with a Kenny Cooper goal. What followed was a mud-fest, a slanging match, and both of the teams had a player sent off. For NepentheZ, centre-back Sergiy Fedorov got himself a second yellow, while Lawrence Lazewski’s young Josh Lambo flew off in a flurry of foul-mouthedness after a second yellow for the goalkeeper.

That didn’t stop the goals however, with the Democrat once again edging infront, this time from an Iván Trujillo goal. The candidates took a break, having been worn out by the debate so far. When they resumed, it didn’t take Lawrence Lazewski long to fire back, Roger Levesque scoring from close range in the 49th minute. Would NepentheZ be another victim of Lazewski’s? The match was closed out with little more action.

To say NepentheZ triumphed in the face of adversity would be an understatement. With only three shots in the entire match, his team scored two of them, while Lawrence Lazewski had to settle for scoring two of his 18. Kansas City Wizards bossed possession, as they always do, but at the end of the day it was pure composure that won out as the penalty shootout got underway.

Lawrence Lazewski’s team went first, and David Wagenfuhr scored. NepentheZ followed, Carlos Marinelli putting the spot kick away. Up stepped Kenny Cooper for FC Dallas. Despite having scored in this match and being the league’s second-top goalscorer, he blazed his over the bar. Claudio López scored, putting the pressure on the Toros. Although Roger Levesque scored his, as did Thomas Gravesen, and Anthony Wallace scored what could have been FC Dallas’ last kick of the game. To win it, all that Iván Trujillo needed to do was score.

And he did.

With NepentheZ triumphing against such odds and power of corruption, democracy takes a small cheer. It isn’t a big one yet, because as we all know, the American public heads to the polls, and only then can we breathe a huge sigh of relief when Kansas Governor NepentheZ becomes President!

Writer’s Notes: This article is rather obviously biased due to it being from a Kansas newspaper. Don’t take it too seriously! All subsequent action will take place in this thread.

Time to Vote!

I never thought I’d see the day – it’s time to vote for one of the two Presidential candidates. You may vote if, and only if, you have registered to vote. You’ve each been given two states to represent. This is only for aesthetic value and your party preference-state pairing is based on the states won in the Primaries.

Writer’s Notes: * - jimmyriddle has been banned, so he’s been given the leftover states. When a voter has submitted their votes, their name will turn black. If jimmyriddle’s states are needed for a deciding vote, I will commandeer them. If a user fails to vote with their states, their states will be attributed evenly to the candidates, yet users cannot specify to do this: they must vote with both their states for one candidate.

I will keep a total of states earned in pure numbers and in terms of electoral college votes, but it will be pure numbers that matter!

Voters, look back over the playoff reports and make a decision on which candidate you’re going to want to elect. You do not need to elect the candidate of the party you specified when registering to vote. Candidates, you do not need to vote for your own party member.

Please send your votes to me by Private Message.

The polls are now open! The final polls close on Saturday, 16th May at 2:00pm (BST).
