I got Lemar en Malcom. Maybe Iwobi? Or Chiesa?

yes they are possibilities i have considered them but in my game they are worse attributes wise and will probably want quite a bit more wages so i'm a bit reluctant tbh it's more about finding a replacement of similar ability for not to much more wages. I think i'm going to sell Iwobi as he was poor last season.

p.s: i decided to negotiate the offer i asked for £150m up front plus £75m in 3 installments and 10% of future sale PSG walked away-   even the first offer was easily the most I've ever been offered for a player

What a player, Reiss Nelson, been using him as a left and right winger. A great squad player, a decent full back option.

This season 21 (5) apps, 8 goals and 15 assists. And only reached Febuary.

An academy player too. Rarely gets injured.

Lacazette or Aubameyang? Which one better?

And how good is Özil in first season?

After watching the word cup and following our preseason so far, I have started a new save with arsenal and hoping to progress further than the last save. I holidayed the first season to try simulate the final damaging Wenger year and surprisingly the AI controlled Arsenal won the Europa league, finished third and made a few astute signings. The AI staved off any major interest in the squad and as a result I had a similar starting squad, with a few additions, to what we have currently in real life.

I decided early on that if there was interest in any players I would move them on and accept the AI offers. As a result Iwobi moved to Manchester City in a structured deal worth up to £55m. Jesse Lingard was transfer listed by Manchester United and as a player who I quite like in real life was signed for a £31.5m fee with Welbeck heading back to Old Trafford on loan. Chelsea under AI managed Conte disappointed in the previous season and finished 5th in the league. As a result a few players availability was brought up by my scouts. Hazard had a falling out with Conte and was unhappy after too many broken promises. After a few failed negotiations with first Lacazette and then Mustafi not willing to make the swap to West London. Eventually, Raul Sanllehi managed to broker a deal for an initial £82m, rising up to £113m in instalments. With Hazard being secured a real marquee signing, a number of departures followed. PSG came in for Xhaka with a deal worth up to £43m, Mustafi was a target for both Barcelona and Real Madrid, but signed for the latter in a £56m transfer that left us light at the back. An influx of rotational players also occurred, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek following Hazard to the Emirates in an £8.25m transfer. We further added to our English contingent with the signing of Jamaal Lascelles from relegated Newcastle. Following his impressive perfomances in real life and in game for his national team, Domagoj Vida arrived as a senior option at centre-half.  Below show the remaining outbound transfers.

 106359966_ScreenShot2018-08-04at20_53_19.thumb.png.5bf66015ad4811ca499baeea4a0370a4.png

During the pre-season friendly, I tested line-up variations of the 4-2-3-1 and 5-3-2 and will go into the community shield with the below tactic and lineup. I will back Macey as the number one for the first half of the season to see how he progress.  Cech will remain at the club as an understudy. The first choice back four may be heavily rotated as I’m undecided who to give the most rotational minutes to out of Chambers,  Mavropanos, Lascelles and Bielik. The central midfield pairing will also likely to be heavily as I want to give plenty of game time to Maitland Miles and Loftus-Cheek. Elneny will slot in as a defensive midfielder in games against rivals and tough away games. Wilshere and will compete to be Ozil’s backup. The right sided Raumdeauter  is also a position a number of players can potentially play with Mkhitaryan, Lingard and Lacazette being well suited for the role and performing well in preseason. Ramsey may be deployed here also, or as a rotation option for Hazard. Up front Aubameyang will lead the line as the main outlet, with Dembele or Lacazette providing rotation.

I hope to give plenty of game times to u-23 graduates. I will also see leave the DoF in charge of incoming transfers with me confirming the final deal. It will be interesting just to see what players are targeted. The same responsibility will be given to Mertesacker as HoYD when recruiting youngsters.

I have since played the community shield and European super cup which ended up being high scoring occasions with a 4-2 win over liverpool and a 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich. We conceded a number of goals from set pieces, something I aim to correct. After being inspired by a blog post, I aim to try and make the most of set pieces offensively and defensively. The results are immensely rewarding when they come off, but hugely disappointing when they lead to goals conceded from poor marking or counter attacks.

The below two are defensive - one completely zonal marking with the striker forward and creative power as the edge of the area player to transition the counter attack. The other is more a desperate, we need a goal late on counter attack set up.

913841603_ScreenShot2018-08-04at21_11_26.thumb.png.633c250d7bf7efb2f01ea1fa0fb1e399.png1658554711_ScreenShot2018-08-04at21_15_24.thumb.png.523a516cdaca6f1e890d0807635cc5e1.png

The below attacking set piece has Vida attacking the near post, with Loftus-Cheek on a near post flick on, using the strength of Kolasinac to block off the goal keeper collecting the cross.  This came to fruitation in the European super cup final, with Monreal blocking off Neuer and Vida outjumping his marker Brandt.

Started a save with Arsenal and top of the league by March. Summer signings were Doucoure from Watford and Dominico Berardi.

Doucoure should be a must buy if you want a Carilelo. 6 goals from 21 games and almost an 8.0 rating.

Cannot sell Ozil who I don't play, nor Wilshere who's started to moan.

Sold Monreal to Man U for £31m in January and used the money to sign Ghoulam from Napoli as a replacement. Also brought in Arthur for £18m and Lucas Torriero for a similar fee.

Welbeck is my starting left winger.

10 games into the season and things are going very well. We have not conceded a goal in 7 game since a half time switch to a holding 4-3-3 below after being constantly cut open in a 4-2-31 with a carrilero and a central midfielder.  Since Elneny came into the team we have been on an upwards trajectory.

766104856_ScreenShot2018-08-20at20_27_31.thumb.png.15c6701933fa177d77caabf51627580e.png

The 4-3-3 gives us a solid triangle base with the central defenders and half-back performing a defensive triangle. A huge number of chances, especially against title rivals, result from winning possession  deep in our half. This can be from crowding out the area in front of the box, or with wide forwards tracking back and winning possession from a misplaced opposition out-ball to the wing back. They then transition the ball to the forward or deep plying playmaker. The raumdeter would led provide the out ball by being on the shoulder of the last defender and being threw on goal for a scoring chance or cut it back for the onrushing attacking central midfielder or box-to-box midfielder.

The signing of Hazard has been a revelation. He tops the charts in chances created, assists and key passes.

Well, if you are to believe latest speed tests from Arsenal, then Sokratis is the 3rd fastest player in the squad behind Aubameyang and Bellerín.

What type of player would they be? Would they be a goal getting midfielder who works on the end of moves off the ball or a more play key passes and lay on assists type player?

I've just reached the half way point of the second season. The save is going very well. Enough going on tactically to be interesting and having key players perform how you like them to is a big part of it. Sitting second currently behind the usual formidable on FM Manchester United. We lead the league by quite some distance for goals scored and have a pretty decent defensive record  - considering Matt Macey has played 19 of 21 games so far.

298574509_ScreenShot2018-09-08at11_40_56.thumb.png.bfc75004893be38fb1b75ac74d5b086c.png

Hazard has been an utter revelation. Being in double figures for goals scored and assists by the half way point. His efforts contributed to him winning the World Footballer of the Year, ahead of Messi and Ronaldo (not sure if this is the Balon D'or). His 50 Key passes and 34 chances created are miles ahead of anyone else in the league. But a questions rises of what happens if he gets injured.

1788235534_ScreenShot2018-09-08at11_35_05.thumb.png.08adab228f787f6ffad49515bdc93b97.png2027006534_ScreenShot2018-09-08at11_39_42.thumb.png.6081cfeab1eb5f0d66d4f7e49e6a0438.png393135212_ScreenShot2018-09-08at11_39_34.thumb.png.bd493320ff15605665e2cb0954243a30.png

As previously mentioned I've tried to give a lot of minutes to under 23 players. Matt Macey being the number 1 for half a season has benefitted the most and has probably filled out his potential. His kicking has developed as I would have liked and would like to see how much of a sweeper keeper he could be going forward. He will probably go out on loan until the end of the season to continue his development as Joao Virginia will step up for half a season between the sticks.

Building on the previous post. Can we take a moment to appreciate the versatility of Ainsley Maitland Niles, Ben Sheaf and Josh Da Silva. Between them they can do a job covering anywhere on the pitch :D. If I can get them to any form of premier league standard they could be utility players for years! Ben Sheaf was tutored by Kolasinac and have pick up some his left wing-back positional attributes and has even come on as a Mezzela in some games!. Josh Da Silva has deputised there for a few games since Kolasinac's long term injury. AMN has been his dependable self. Hopefully, I can get him a England call-up at some point!

This year, decided to start at Arsenal after already had my starts with go 2 teams Ajax and FC Barcelona. Trying to bring the Total Football style to the Gunners and honour Arsene Wenger. Keeping it very basic for pre-season - my ideal is to start with a 4-2-3-1 but lacking a left footed left winger in the squad and before I'm going to enjoy spending €80 million - I went with the 4-4-2 diamond.

Into the final game of the season with a straight game 38 play-off against Manchester United for the league title. They only have to avoid defeat to win the league. Its at Old Trafford, with the reverse being a 4-0 win by me at the Emirates. Any chance of an unlikely away win on this FM?

They have INJ status' for numerous players while we will miss Ozil through Injury, with Aubameyang only fit enough for the bench. Earlier in the season I purchased Lingard with Welbeck going on loan there as  a makeweight. So many subplots!

The game begins badly with Manchester United's aerial bombardment starting strong with them hitting the bar inside 3 minutes. In my error I set Aubameyang to man mark Pogba to prevent him dictating the game from deep. This prevented me building any counter attacks . United take a early lead through a Lukakau header, followed by Gelson Martins turning Monreal inside out before  lashing one home from 25 yards. .

A tactical change saw me go striker-less with Lingard as a shadow striker finding space in-between the lines and driving at the defensive line before finding Aubameyang as a Raumdeter taking advantage of Daley Blinds lack of pace at left back. We strike either side of half time to level the game in identical fashion to the below.

1496655008_ScreenShot2018-09-23at20_00_32.thumb.png.8543fc9c19a22ffa363cefa78fbded98.png1305823079_ScreenShot2018-09-23at20_00_55.thumb.png.dbe5d5c3cda82acbbaba70e70272f80a.png

Before the first half ends, Ander Herrera picks up a second yellow card and is sent out and Mourinho responsds by bringing in Mata. This vacates the left side attacking position sided, leaving Bellerin plenty of space ahead of him to exploit. However, Bellerin has a poor game and fails to complete any of his eleven crosses. Loftus-Cheek who was playing as an auxillarily target man holds up the ball in the Manchester United Half, waiting for midfield runners. Searches out Lacazette playing as the right side raumdeter, who knocks it down for Ramsey who plays it back to Lacazette. Jack Wilshere, the only midfielder behind the ball finds himself in time and space on the edge of area, receives a pass from Lacazette and lashes home a half-volley to make it 3-2 to Arsenal in the 82 minute.

This was my formation before that went in!

I then go full-defensive mode, changing formation, set pieces and individual instructions. To not avail though, Gelsen Martins who has a superb game skins Bellerin on the right and crosses for Lukaku to find space in the middle of my three center backs to head home the leveller, breaking Arsenal hearts. :(

I took multiple screenshots in the game, as I watched on full detail. The adrenaline! :D

This means we finish the season trophy-less and Manchester United having the first piece of silverware for a FA Cup, League Title and Europa League winner treble.

Manchester United and Liverpool will contest the FA cup final. Chelsea will play United in the Europa League final and Liverpool play Monaco in the Champions League Final.

I will do a full season review once I write it up tomorrow and get some statistics.

So a season in review. We finished as runners up in the EPL, to two points and 1 goal in the vital last game. Beyond heartbreak. We also didn't perform well in the cups losing to eventual semi-finalists Juventus by 1-0 aggregate loss. Liverpool went onto win the Champions League. The domestic cups were a similar story. We lost in the 5th found of the League Cup as we fielded many u-23 players against Conte's fierce first eleven. We lost the FA cup fifth round tie versus Everton due to tactical tinkering with a new system .

1015551055_ScreenShot2018-10-02at18_37_04.thumb.png.1d7c4ae84ed4f65d7d5523f8ca7144cb.png681156911_ScreenShot2018-10-02at18_37_14.thumb.png.127aab9b811e1697a6ff6ca2df51f2b1.png530792476_ScreenShot2018-10-02at18_37_20.thumb.png.eca48d6bfd8531d807053aac11ed898f.png

Moving forward, I will set the following aims for next season:

  • Have a central midfielder score 20 goals in all competitions
  • Score the most set-plays in the league ( indirect free kicks and corners) - set this as a philosophy
  • Trim the squad - have no players out on loan. Make use of buy-back clauses.
  • Have a strong eleven in the u-23s - At least decent championship players current ability. Hire a new u-23 manager to play a style more reflective of our own.
  • Win a trophy

Key Player Analysis

1556515187_ScreenShot2018-10-02at18_46_20.png.33073f1e92da9b12a032a95a33428daf.png

The key player throughout the season, he performed majestically being miles ahead of the competition and was rightly awarded the Ballon D'or for this efforts. The stats speak for themselves with only Messi leading him in terms of key passes and chance creation. Cutting in from the left wing with the Advanced Playmaker (support) role enabled him to inflict damage and link up with our man leading the line.

558866749_ScreenShot2018-10-02at19_10_31.thumb.png.2b7af31dcf9d8e0a7880998992759d37.png

I shall update when pre-season is over and have a newly calibrated squad with two different tactical approaches. A couple of things to consider:

  • We have Aubameyang, Lacazette, Moussa Dembele,  Welbeck N'Ketiah and Loftus-Cheek competiting for one striker position as a number 9.
    • Mkhitaryan, Kovalenko, Lingard and Reis Nelson can also fill in as a false 9 here.
  • Ramsey spent a huge chunk of the season injured with knocks with Wilshere impressing in the final run in for the end of season. This competition may lead to one or even both leaving the club, with Kovalenko impressing in a loan spell at Lazio
  • How to fit in the world player of the year Hazard and not stifle creativity from other areas of the team.

Starting my save this weekend with Arsenal. Had a look at their squad last night and the first question is which formation to play.

Think I’m going for a fluid counter attack, we don’t have the players to press from the front and our defenders aren’t up to much either

Think the default squad will be decent at soaking up pressure in numbers and then releasing players with pace like Auba on the break!

Yep, that makes a lot of sense. I'm still stuck on what our formation should be, so it's definitely going to be a busy pre-season.

Not sure where we need improving either, but I'm tempted to buy an out and out winger. Then play with one winger and one inside striker, alongside Aubamayang who will probably play as a poacher. But not too sure about that. Then in the middle, I'm not sure how to utilise our midfield because of the abundance of playmakers issue.

As for the defence, who knows? In terms of priority, I think winger, central defender, half-back is what I'm looking for.

Yeah sounds about right.

I’m also thinking about one inside forward, probably Laca/Iwobi playing off the left and then bringing in a Leon Bailey type winger to play on the other side!

De Ligt would be golden at the back, if not him then a more experienced CB. Also think I want a CM who can offer more going forward, Ozil is too light weight but Xhaka/Torreira/El Neny are all more defensive minded players!

you already have a perfect midfielder 3:

Xhaka - deep lying playmaker

Torreira - Ball winner

Ramsey - Box to box/attacking playmaker

Guendozi, Maitland Niles and Elneny can rotate in.

Or you can play 4231 when you don't want to use 3 mids. Ozil or Ramsey number 10, Aubamayeng/Mkhitaryan/Iwobi/Smith-Rowe on the wings.

Its extremely far from a perfect 3, I like two positive midfielders with a holding player... Ramsey is the only one I’d trust in a CM position to affect the attacking part of the game.

Just like real life, Emery utilising Xhaka and Torreira in a 2 produces some ugly looking football!

Only one of Torreria or Xhaka are needed at the pitch for me

Started my pre-season. I signed Ligt for £40m or so, but in hindsight, I probably should've signed someone who could immediately establish themselves in the first team. I have about 30m left, but I think I'll just stick with my team for the first season.

I'm struggling to decide on a formation as well - all I know at the moment is that I'd (ideally) like to have Auba and Laca playing up top together, or at least attacking as a 2 when we're in possession, and I'd like Ozil playing centrally as well. I don't really know how I can achieve what I'm thinking in the tactics creator though, essentially I want kind of what we've got IRL under Emery:

4-2-3-1 when defending, but 4-2-2-2 when attacking, with the strikers forming a partnership. I don't think IF(A) will give me the movement I want in the ME. Perhaps a narrow 4-2-3-1 could work with the AMCL as a SS?

I really struggle with Özil. I can't get a 4231 to work reliably.

I feel like I need 3 players in central midfield.

Also auba is letting me down badly so most of the times I start with lacazette, who already scored 5 goals more in the same amount of game time.

I also signed ligt (and chiesa), but will start over with another tactic and probably sell Özil to get someone better at central midfield.

Torreira really looks promising and Ramsey is so good you have to renew his contract.

I found it hard getting Lacazette and Auba working together had consistent results with the following 4-2-3-1:

Cech

Bellerin, Sokratis, Koscielny, Kolasinac

Torriera (CM support), Elneny (BWM Def)

Mkhitaryan (W Att) Ramsey (AMC S) Ozil (W Att)

Lacazette (CF Attack).

Using Auba in cups and off the bench.

Interesting - what was your reasoning behind putting Ramsey central and Ozil out wide? I didn't think Ozil would be explosive enough to really get a lot done in that kind of area.

Ozil is too light weight in the center I prefer a hardworking player in the middle plus Ozil has great technical skills including his crossing ability which has made him really effective on the left, dribbling past players then crossing or shooting.

I restarted my game last night and signed Gunter (20m) and Gueye (40m or so)

I've gone for a custom fluid, counter attack, 4-1-4-1 DM Wide. Ozil is advanced playmaker on right wing, Lacazette or Iwobi inside forward on left. Then a BWM and BBM in the center. I think it'll take some time to see if we can play this style of football, but I'm not sure how else to set up this team.

I am usually always a 41221 player but I don't feel the squad is suited to that unfortunately.

This time round, the best players at the club are probably the two strikers and a selection of the centre mids.

So, my initial plan is a narrow diamond (with plenty of this 'gegenpress' stuff). That should allow  Ozil (or Mhiki or Ramsey) to play in the 10 role, both strikers to play in tandem and gets three centre midfielders in too.

So the plan is to improve CB, and maybe get a third decent striker.

It may all end in tears but it feels a sensible plan to me

I signed Cahill from Chelsea for £8.75m at the start.  He'll do while I get to grips with the long-term plan for our defence, also means I have more wriggle room if I want to loan out fringe English players like Willock or sell Welbeck.

Also signed 20 year old Lucas Paqueta from Flamengo for £16m as a long-term replacement for Ozil. He's going to be one of this year's best buys, 4 goals and 2 assists in 6 pre-season games so far. Absolute quality.

Sold Jenko for £3m to Al-Ittihad Jeddah (bit their hands off in fact) which gave me enough to bring in 20 year old Federico Chiesa for £35m plus £14m in installments and various other add-ons. He's a versatile wide-player with lots of potential though he's been lame in pre-season, though to be fair so have all of the front players apart from Paqueta and Willock.

What sort of system you going with? Seems to be the big question this year...

I'm sticking with 4-2-3-1, the old Wengerball system we had for Fabregas but also developing my own tactic based on 5-3-2-1 with a Positive passing game and the full backs either playing to the flanks to cross or cutting inside to support the attack on the deck. Rather depends on how big the opposition CBs are.

For FMT19 I've settled on a 442DM Gegenpress with some tweaks to make it more similar to how the Invincibles played. Ozil or Iwobi as a Wide Playmaker at ML, Mkhitaryan (later, Nelson) as an Inverted Winger at MR, Lacazette (Nketiah) as a DLF in right ST (the Bergkamp role) and Auba as an AF at left ST with Stay Wider PI (Henry role). AMN/Guendouzi have been sharing the Vieira role (SV at DMLC) with Torreira in the Gilberto role (DMd). Xhaka is this squad's Edu for me. Both full backs bomb on and I score a lot of cutbacks and low crosses.

Had a poor first 3 games whilst tweaking the system but have gone on a winning run the last 7 games, including beating both Spurs and Liverpool 5-0.
