I followed this thread for a while and ended up buying the Acer Aspire 5755G (6GB i7-2670QM) that was suggested early on in the thread. I've had it for about a month, and am absolutely delighted with it, so just wanted to say a belated thank you to Welshace and Eugene Tyson for their excellent input.
I bought myself a new laptop with the below specs after advice from people on here..

CPU Family Intel Core i7

Processor Number 3630QM

CPU Speed 2.4 GHz

L3 Cache 6 MB

Chipset Manufacturer Intel

Chipset Model HM76

Graphics Device

Graphics Device AMD Radeon HD 7670M

After say the game runs like a beast and can easily run 15+ Nations

How much did you guys pay if you don't mind me asking?

So, I'm back again after a few months and as Welshace knows, I got a desktop (in November) but I then returned it to buy a new mobile phone instead. I'll have the money to buy a new Desktop/Laptop later this month and there's a few I'm looking at. I've decided to go for a Laptop instead though as they are just more convenient.

Also, I'm looking to see if I can sell my existing laptop.

It's a 3 year-old Dell Studio 1745 - with an Intel Dual Core Processor @ 2.2ghz, 4GB of ram, 17" screen, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 graphics card, 300GB hard drive - in decent (but not mint) condition with a battery that still lasts for up to 2 hours.

Any thoughts on what it's worth?

You could cut the price by removing the SSD drive and just put a fast HD in instead - an SSD will not improve FM13 speed only the loading and saving.

Darn I should have read this thread prior to ordering a new laptop! I went AMD instead of Intel because it was on sale and has a decent graphics card (for other games). I'm picking it up today, so I hope it will run FM13 alright.

Paid 400 for:

HP Envy 6M

Processor Type AMD A10-4600M

Processor Cores 4

Processor Speed 2.3 GHz

Processor Cache 4 MB L2

1TB 5400 rpm

8GB DDR3

AMD Radeon HD 7660G / 7670M Dual GPU 2GB Dedicated

HP states (up to) 9 hrs of battery life, that seems a bit much on a 6 cell Lithium-Ion battery.

For the people who are considering AMD, I'll let you know how this runs.

I sold a similar specced Dell Studio about 9 months ago on eBay, although mins was only a 15.6" inch screen and got £175 for it. I wish I'd kept it really it ran FM12 (at least) smoothly

Evening lads.

I'm looking to pick up a new laptop for running FM13 and web browsing. That will literally be it. So when looking at all these i5 models for £400 upwards it all seems pretty steep for what I plan on getting out of it.

To give you an idea, I've been running FM on my HP Compaq 6720s for the last 3/4 editions with an Intel Caleron 1.73ghz processor. So anything up from that is surely going to seem like warp speed!

I'd like to have the option of using 3D but its not make or break, can these desires be achieved for less than £300? Any help appreciated.

Was your computer able to run 3D on FM12?

The problem with buying that kind of computer now makes it even an even greater expense when you realise it might not be able to run FM14, 15 or 16 and have to spend another £300. I'd hold off on buying one if your computer can run it now until you have a higher budget, to make sure your new computer can last for more than one or two editions of FM and maybe even other games that come along.

If you really don't mind having a computer that will struggle a bit with the 3D, you may want to look at a laptop that was suggested on the previous page http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Packard_Bell_EasyNote_TS11_1287957.html?tabid=product&id=1287957 but even this one is slightly above your budget.

Alternatively, you can probably get a desktop that can run FM13 with 3D quite easily at around £300

I dont run FM for the graphics. I play it like old school CM with commentary only. Only thing im sick of with this current laptop is the slow response and slow processing time between days on FM. Does that have anything to do with the graphics card?

Not a request for a laptop as such just wanted to say thanks to the members of this thread.

My time for playing FM13 is very limited, just as well since most of the time I have been attempting to play the demo on my girlfriend’s old laptop. It is an Asus R1F series, an Intel Core Duo t5600 @ 1.83ghz, 1GB RAM, o/s is Vista. As you can see its pretty old and it barely meets the minimum requirements to run the game. In fact it ran the demo really, really slowly, the loading screen would take minutes to go through, the processing would take an age and so on.

I tried to clear up the laptop doing all the usual things like defrag, ccleaner, disk cleanup and the like but with little or no effect. Then I read someone on here mention Gamebooster so I downloaded that and launched the demo through that. My word what a difference it made!! The demo runs much quicker now, it has gone from being virtually unplayable to playable, the match engine seems much better (before it was pretty jerky), its like playing a different game.

So thanks to the guys in this forum who put me on to Gamebooster.

Hi guys, sorry for jumping in months after the last post but I am now looking for a good machine and you fellows seem to know a thing or two about what a good spec and good value machine would be. I understand specs get better all the time and some of the machines here could be out of date or you could now find a better machine for the same price as some of these mentioned above.

Im looking to spend around £600, any thoughts please?

can anyone recommend a laptop that has a good processor, windows 8 and ram im not too bothered as i can upgrade it later budget around 400 pounds and i only play fm13 in 2d, never liked the 3d... and i find it easier to make tactical changes and change the game by watching 2d. but i want a laptop that will last me at least a good 2 years meaning it should be okay for fm14 and other things once ive upgraded the ram to lets say 8gb if it came with 4/6.

two 2 days ago, I tested FM13 on Mac Pro 13' screen, with processor of Core i7 2.9 with trubo boost to 3.8 i think, 8GB RAM & intel HD 4000 512MB video card.

the 3D in match screen looked awful, slow when the ball moved around, you couldn't even read the name of the player really during it.

for those people who claimed several times FM isn't about video card, they must joking.

i don't recommend Intel graphics cards at all, even with good proccessor and Rams.

I have seen that already before, but it was not really helpful - not in the sense I need. I am used to a not top-level graphics, however I am more interested in knowing, how would laptop with those specifics run a long term game on similar conditions as I used to have.

I run more than around 40-60 leagues, used to play around 5-6 seasons (max.) and the speed of the game looks acceptable for me (when i change interface rending mode to 'software' ) ..

but unless you don't use 3D match mode, still recommend you to look at Nividia/ATI, even 512MB dedicated memory is far better than Intel HD.

How much is this setting you back mate? It should run FM fine, its a 3rd generation i5 processor.
