Graphics card 3D engine check

Recommended Posts

Further to an earlier post I made in this thread about my own experiences when it came to running the demo, I found that by switching to Windowed mode, the stuttering I was experiencing in BOTH the 2D Classic and the 3D view disappeared. The game now runs very smoothly, particularly on 2D which was not the case before. I had already turned the detail down a bit to no avail - it was the switch to 'windowed' that made the difference.

System: XP, 1gb RAM, Athlon 3200+ 2.2Ghz, ATI HD 3850 256 mb card.

ok guys, with a little scrolling here and there, plus visiting other threads, one thing to note is these two Intel integrated cards, ie

NAME: Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset Family

MANUFACTURE: Intel corporation

or Intel G31/G33 sets,

these cards are not going to run 3D, but may run the game 2D. Solution: None as yet, need SI to fix or Intel for driver patch.

err, no, means intel produced buggy graphics card and you happened to buy it.

so sometimes intel does produce patches for driver cards as workarounds. It may not be the lastest patch that work, but older patch(I had that experience with other games), or wait for SI to rescue.

This is from wiki:

Modern gaming

The Intel GMA products are designed to allow Intel to offer a full system platform that includes graphics hardware. However, due to the GMA's nature as a highly cost-sensitive product, performance and functionality is limited relative to more expensive discrete graphics components. Some games and 3D applications will not recognize support for some hardware functionality because of the simplification of parts of these graphics accelerators. The GMA X3x00's unified shader design allows for more complete hardware functionality, but the line still has issues with some games and has significantly limited performance.[69]

Intel, not oblivious to these problems, has put up a page with 'Known Issues & Solutions' for each version.[70] For Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Software Development concerns, there is the Integrated Graphics Software Development Forum.[71]

With recent driver updates, many more games have become playable on this hardware.[citation needed]

there you have it, so if possible to check it up for patches to save money.

Okay cheers mate, Does anybody know where i can check for any updates, or more importantly can anybody from SI give me an answer to whether this chip will EVER run the 3D mode at a decent level?

Anybody who has a working and smooth 3D could they please advise me on a graphics card to get? Im desperate for 3D!!!

Advent Laptop

CPU: 1,4Ghz Dual Core

RAM: 2GB

Graphics: SIS Mirage 3+, 672 Chipset, 256MB shared memory

Driver 5.12:

------------

Low detail, no stadium or skies = smoothly

Medium detail, no stadium or skies = stutters slightly

High detail, no stadium or skies = unplayable

Driver 5.13

------------

Low detail, no stadium or skies = looks like a Subbuteo pitch, with a black square in right hand corner of it

Medium detail, no stadium or skies = normal look, stutters slightly, crashes every other game

High detail, no stadium or skies = normal look, freezes, crashes after every game

So SIS Mirage 3+, 672 Chipset should work with low/medium IF you use driver 5.12,

Mobile Intel 965 Chipset

I have same card running with DELL XPS M1330, 2gb RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 1.66GHz.

The actual game processing is rapid (much quicker 08). However, the 3D is stuttering and choppy.

Is this the same for you? I'm thinking of installing more RAM, but unsure if it'll make any difference.

Can anyone please tell me if this setup is fine to play or not? Sorry if this is in wrong place. I am rather dissappointed that I cant play the demo.

Radeon X700 - does the opposite. Works fine fullscreen, but stutters unbearably when windowed. Annoying, as I don't like playing it fullscreen!

I use the Dell XPS M1330 but with the Integrated nVidia 8400M GS

Have you updated your drivers?

The direct URL for the Intel drivers for your system (Vista-32bit) is here:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R179345&SystemID=XPS_M1330&servicetag=GTFSS3J&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=12618&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=6&fileid=244176

If that fails then visit the Dell Support page here (you'll need to search for your system):
