I built my own, took me about 6 hours when I'd got everything in the post but I've now got an awesome machine. I paid around £1200 for my set up, in the shops, it'd cost double that, easily. balu000 Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 FM is totally cpu dependant. 8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram will be more than enough for you, no point in going for 16gb or more expensive 1600+ mhz modules. I guess you'd be best off with an i7-2600k and a z68 mainboard, add in a quality heatsink so that you can overlock to 4.5-4.8 GHz without any trouble. In order to overlock i7-2600k any further, you'd need to disable hyper-threading in the bios, but as FM would utilize the added threads while calculating the match results, don't do this. Such a system would cost quite little. Add in a minimum 64gb ssd, but if money doesn't matter, a 128gb one, speed really doent matter for fm, and you're fine. GPU-wise go with HD6850, that's the best performance/price ratio gpu at the monent on the market, and more than enough for fm. Anything above this would yield diminishing returns on your money, so for anything 10% better you'd have to pay at least twice this much. Alienware are mega expensive for the specs, you can get much better for the price unless its maxed out in which case it will still be cheaper than Alienware. 0gris Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 do you reckon i could build one before the 21st of october:) Just always keep your motherboard specifications open and see if the following matches up: RAM: DDR number and frequency Processor: Socket PSU: Make sure you have at least 2 6/8 pin cables(look at the requirements on your GPU) GPU: Check the power requirements and what kind of pins you need HDD: SATA II/III That's pretty much all there is to it. It's fairly simple to build your own PC; And some websites even offer an option where they build it for you with the specs you choose. A magazine is a good idea. Most importantly, shop around. Money may be no object but it's possible to know when you are blatantly getting ripped-off. Most shops offer next day delivery of components, I normally use ebuyer as they have excellent customer service. Also remember that choosing most expensive parts doesnt necessarily mean the best computer. Just PLEASE stay away from Alienware ......... waste of money My current PC .....
