Alienware?

Seem to be very high-spec but costly.

Or build your own for a lot less cost.

I built my own, took me about 6 hours when I'd got everything in the post but I've now got an awesome machine.

I paid around £1200 for my set up, in the shops, it'd cost double that, easily.

8x Xeon E7-8870 (yes, 8 processors - these chips individually are around the same speed as the 990X but the 990X cannot be put into parallel) - http://ark.intel.com/products/53580/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7-8870-%2830M-Cache-2_40-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI%29 [£23,479]

Super Micro X8OBN-F motherboard (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon7000/7500/x8obn-f.cfm) [can't find a price, but these are upwards of £4,500 using this]

256 GB DDR3 ECC RAM (1,333 MHz) [£2,000]

4x 4 GB AMD FirePro V9800 (quicker than the nVidia Quadro 6000: http://hothardware.com/printarticle.aspx?articleid=1565) [£8,800]

So even before we get into all the fun bits, that's around £40,000.

FM is totally cpu dependant. 8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram will be more than enough for you, no point in going for 16gb or more expensive 1600+ mhz modules.

I guess you'd be best off with an i7-2600k and a z68 mainboard, add in a quality heatsink so that you can overlock to 4.5-4.8 GHz without any trouble. In order to overlock i7-2600k any further, you'd need to disable hyper-threading in the bios, but as FM would utilize the added threads while calculating the match results, don't do this. Such a system would cost quite little. Add in a minimum 64gb ssd, but if money doesn't matter, a 128gb one, speed really doent matter for fm, and you're fine.

GPU-wise go with HD6850, that's the best performance/price ratio gpu at the monent on the market, and more than enough for fm.

Anything above this would yield diminishing returns on your money, so for anything 10% better you'd have to pay at least twice this much.

Are you willing to buy a branded pc, or want to put it together yourself? Also, where do you live? Let me know these so that I can help.

I recently bought the Alienware Aurora R3, and upgraded the memory, graphics card and processor. Probably could of made one cheaper but i dont have any knowledge of building my own. Spent just over £1100 and im very happy with it.

Just don't get an alienware; They are never ever worth it.... Well apart from the sweet cases, those are awesome.

But money is no object. :)

(Of course, Alienware PCs are still not the most powerful out there, but hey, they are so pretty...)

In all seriousness, if money is no object, go for a Dual Xeon or Quad Opteron workstation with 4 graphics cards and maximise your RAM.

For example, take this and maximise everything.

Seriously, would it make any sense? It not sensible, and I'm not sure if it's going to be any faster than the i7 I mentioned. The close-to-perfect system for FM2012 can be done out of 800gbp without a question. No matter how much money the guy, it would make no sense to a buy a xeon, which was made for totally different tasks, and I'm not even sure if it would outperform the way cheaper i7 in fm. also, 4 gpus?... Please. for FM it would just overcomplicate things. 0 performance increase from an excess 600gbp price. No point.

Op, send me a pm if possible here (dunno, just regged), and I'd be glad to help you out.

A dual-Xeon or quad-Opteron would blow your i7 to pieces in all honesty... http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/03/31/amd-opteron-6174-vs-intel-xeon-x5650-review/6

It's two processors, which will always be quicker than one.

Would it make sense, though? Probably not, but the OP said money is no object... How long is a piece of string? :)

Don't go for Alienware.

If you don't want to build, there are much better bundles out there. Cyberpower and Chillblast, for example.

Shop around! Off the top of my head, Cyberpower can give you a much better system for £700 less.

i have no idea where i would start i wish i was a bit more computer savy to be able to do it

If you look in magazines like Custom PC there are instructions and which parts to choose. I was **** scared when first build one but its really very easy, like lego except you have to know which parts to choose :)

Honestly, he's right. Alienware are mega expensive for the specs, you can get much better for the price unless its maxed out in which case it will still be cheaper than Alienware.

Just always keep your motherboard specifications open and see if the following matches up:

RAM: DDR number and frequency

Processor: Socket

PSU: Make sure you have at least 2 6/8 pin cables(look at the requirements on your GPU)

GPU: Check the power requirements and what kind of pins you need

HDD: SATA II/III

That's pretty much all there is to it. It's fairly simple to build your own PC; And some websites even offer an option where they build it for you with the specs you choose. Really, building your own PC is easy, just be careful and if something doesn't fit, it's not supposed to go in there.

Trust me - it's nice, but it's not £700 nice!

A magazine is a good idea. Most importantly, shop around. Money may be no object but it's possible to know when you are blatantly getting ripped-off.

Here's a list of suppliers, if you want a bundle: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/html/awards-2010/index.php?pageId=2 - Dell (Alienware included) is, unsurprisingly, near the bottom.

You could mate, putting it together and getting it to work can take few hours ....... its overclocking it that takes patience and time. Most shops offer next day delivery of components, I normally use ebuyer as they have excellent customer service. Also remember that choosing most expensive parts doesnt necessarily mean the best computer.

Just PLEASE stay away from Alienware ......... waste of money ;)
