Libertas San Marino! - The FM23 San Marino Challenge

Recommended Posts

Successful year overall for the national team, with us managing to stay up in the International League Division C on our 2nd attempt.  Nanni managed 6 goals on the year, putting the 31yo at 39 goals.  If I can have him play to 35, I think he'll be the first to hit that 50 goal mark.  Nanni, at 109 caps, is about to be joined in the 100 cap club by fullback Filippo Fabbri, sitting on 98 caps as well.  As far as qualifying players for the challenge, MC Alessandro Michelotti is the closest, with the 24 year old (product of Serie A Sampdoria) sitting on 60 caps.

Overall, the team has moved up to 178 in the world rankings.

Be interesting to see how WC qualifiers go starting in 2033.

I have not noticed this. I always get a reasonable amount of SM players in my intakes.

On another note, the national team reached a milestone on September 2038

S3 – Serie C (Italy, D3)

Stadium, professional status and feeder clubs

Our board ruled that we needed to move to another ground after our promotion to the third tier. We’ll be renting the San Marino Stadium, also home to our national team. Very content with this as it’s a lot better than our previous stadium, with the very limited capacity of 750 people.

In addition, we became a professional club as from this season. Yay! We renewed most of our senior squad contracts to full time deals in June, because as from July we would fall under the absurdly strict financial regulations of the Italian Serie C (= minimum wage of €500 p/w). Every extra euro helps! Financially the Serie C does however also finally offer some certainty, even with little profits month per month. We might finally be able to do some improvements to our facilities after the season…

Last but not least, I decided to terminate the links with our two feeder clubs Forli and Ravenna. They play in a lower tier, so it would not benefit us in any way. Very eager to find a new senior affiliate, up until now without luck though…

Transfers

Outgoing, two of our four Sammarinese loanies returned to their club. Pierini returned to Cesena, while Sassuolo was reluctant to re-loan twin brothers Benvenuti to us (even after playing >30 games for our club). At deadline day, Giancomo was finally allowed to return to us on loan. Tommaso only returned in January for the remainder of the season. Last but not least, Pari was given a one year contract at our club after his deal at Cesena expired. He was immediately sent to affiliate club SS Cosmos, in the hope he would get more game time there and develop.

Ambrosini decided to retire, but will remain at Victor San Marino as an U20 coach. Additionally, four players were let go: Monaco, Pasquini and Mengucci didn’t get a new deal, while Farabegoli signed for Cannara in the fifth tier.

Incoming, we searched for some local Italian players to reinforce our senior squad. Farinelli, born in Ravenna, was the first one to join us on a free from Corticella (Serie D). Furthermore, two young defenders Mancini and Diotallevi were welcomed at our club.

However I was happy with these signings, we lacked some depth. Luckily, in October, our national team star Berardi signed a three-year contract. Very happy to have him around, I hope he can become a huge part of our project the following seasons. If everything goes well, I even aspire to keep him around until the end of his career. Mid december, Nanni followed his example. At the same time, the Italo Belgian Mamona (born in Pesaro) signed a deal. Previously, he was under contract at Cremonese in the Serie B. Three new attacking options that fill in the depth we were missing after the end of the summer!

Season summary

While being viewed as one of the top candidates for relegation, I always believed we would have a solid season. Particularly helpful in that case is a good start, for which we got a little helping hand: in our first five games, we were awarded three penalties. Result? Four wins, three penalty goals by Sabba and a first place. Apart from a poor run in April, we kept performing and it quickly turned out like we were going to get a spot in the play offs for the Serie B. We did, finishing 7th.

Play-off time! Promotion to the Serie B would’ve been rather unexpected and maybe a little too soon, but we couldn’t let this chance slip away. In our first game, we dominated Arezzo and won after a goal from our captain Sabba. This meant we proceeded to the second round, an away game against Ancona. Sadly enough, we had a real off day. We never really stood our ground and were already down 2 goals at half time. End result: 2-1 and another season in the Serie C!

Also lost in the second round of the Coppa Italia Lega Pro, Juventus’ U23 side was just too strong (2-0). Kenan Yildiz completely destroyed us.

Youth intake

We were able to do our very first upgrades in terms of youth recruitment and junior coaching, so I hoped to see an impact in our youth intake. There was just one (very) good looking prospect: Italian attacker Lelli. However, not a single Sammarinese player that looks decent. Rather disappointing.

House rules

Spoiler

Transfers:

- Unlimited transfers of Sammarinese players with Sammarinese nationality, apart from this only Italians born in the near vicinity can be offered a contract (thus place of birth being in republic San Marino or Italian provinces Forlì-Cesena, Pesaro e Urbino, Ravenna and Rimini.)

- Players from youth intake Victor San Marino or San Marino Academy can be signed, regardless of their nationality or place of birth;

- There must be at least six Sammarinese players in the Senior squad at all time; and

- As from the Serie A, two non-European players of the same nation are allowed in the squad. RemarkThis rule was corrected from Serie B to Serie A, as the transfer rules of the 2nd division make this really hard.

Loans

- Maximum 3 loans per season. Players are eligible for a loan spell according to the same rules as for transfers set out above.

S3 – National Team

Disastrous beginning of the season with our National Team. First of all, our two leading players, Nanni and Berardi could not find a new club in summer and had to be picked up by our club halfway through the season. Same goes for Cappichioni, also part of the starting XI. Moreover, we started with two 0-1 losses in our new Nations League group with Moldova, Liechtenstein and Belarus in September. If that was not enough yet, a week after we got some terrible news. Guidi (Cesena), by far our most promising youngster, withdrew from his National Team commitment. The fact he seeks a chance at Italy’s NT is just nonsense, as he already collected 11 caps for us… :idiot:

The next international break, it almost felt like our players were eager to show Guidi how stupid he had been. After losing in Moldova, we faced Liechtenstein at home without our top striker Nanni (suspended). This meant our youth prospect Terenzi had to play up front, with little to no experience (at that moment, 3 short subs at club level and one at international level). Things seemed to – finally – fall into place as we started really strong. A  smart pass past the defence from Terenzi put Vannucci one-v-one against Büchel. Our #10 didn’t hesitate and opened the score, becoming the youngest ever goalscorer for both our country and the Nations League at 16 year and 105 days old! Only a few minutes later, the same Vannucci got tackled in the 16: penalty! Berardi took his responsibility, celebrating his transfer to Victor San Marino two days earlier. To top things off, Terenzi felt like an assist wasn’t enough in his first starting appearance: 3-0 at half time (also the final score), I couldn’t believe my eyes. What a game! It took a long time, but we end our winless streak of 143 games since 2004:applause:

Hey guys, I started one over here (and already finished the first season), I hope you enjoy my content!

My setup

  • I started with a brand new manager, amateur footballer
  • I decided to go with the San Marino League
  • I'm not the national manager
    • I want this to be natural. So I'll be training a team from the league until the national team fire the current manager (or the youth national team), and then I will apply.
  • I've load the follows leagues: Italy until Serie C, Spain, England, Germany and France (1st divisions) -> To be as realistic as possible

My strategy

  • I wanted to make a "full-italian" team to be strong asap
  • I want to start playing UCL asap so the money will start coming in
  • After the money start coming in I'll finally then developing
    • Try to become Professional
    • Upgrade Training facilities
    • Upgrade Youth Facilities and Intakes

I noticed that San Marino youth intake is very poor and no one got good facilities to develop this players. So is worthless to develop San Marino players from the beggining.

Pennarossa

Pennarossa hired a new manager

Honeslty, I just picked the logo that I loved the most (and the colors, since I'm a São Paulo fan, I always like clubs on red, white and black). The club got real good players so it was kind easy to just hire a few to have a great team. My best player of course is a Italian guy named Alessandro Conti that started at Juventus (wow).

Hey all i have a general question... I am using the 10 import San Marino database that was a while back... My question is with San Marino players being on amateur contracts in season 1 when a) do players get part time or full time contracts like season 2-3 type thing and b) at what season does your San Marino team start to have a bit of a scouting budget.

I really hate Italian seeding rules :P

Another season in Serie B, as we just did this:
image.thumb.png.7d99d180cb6ba2b3108881de58d67405.png

Finished 6th in Serie B, beat Ascoli in the first round 1-0, beat Parma at home 1-0, and couldn't quite  mount a comeback after conceding a 4th goal (join league-leading goal scorer Takacs -- my signing of the season no doubt, gave us an aggregate equalizer, but it was too little too late).  Still, proud of what we've done this season.  Now, if we can only get a stadium built (we're about €2M in the red, due to the bug which backed us into a 750 capacity stadium after we'd been in the national team stadium for first Serie B season.  Going to press on, but as stadium is still in "searching for site" stage, I'd wager at least 2 more years stuck in this parking lot of a stadium.  If it does take that long, I foresee a problem staying in the league.... we'll just cross our fingers.  Maybe we'll get a new board each year until the stadium is built :P

Well, surprise surprise!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2964682176

We have a stadium planned... and it'll be ready after only one season!  (I'll believe that when I see it!)  Tho, there is hope!

And, we get our first every WC qualifying win, with Nanni netting twice and the team holding on against a furious counterattack by the Faroe Islands to secure the 2-1 win.  Nanni, 33 years old, now has 41 goals for San Marino.  That means he needs to average 3 goals a year over next three years to hit the 50 mark (alhough I hope he'll pick up one or two more this season to lower that total!)

Made our biggest jump in world rankings in a while, moving up 4 spots to 176 as well.

I did start with them, just to avoid this issue :)

They are ready to throw in a national holiday after winning a friendly, so I think it's very hard to get fired as national team manager.

Yeah I ran into this issue, first with Cosmos, then with Victor after I moved there. Getting the first few in is ok, but at some point the option to keep upgrading does not appear anymore. Apparently it is related to having a new stadium being built.

Hello Jerzy59,

So i first need to build a new stadium before i can upgrade again?

Not really. It's a new feature that SI has added. It is based on a hidden attribute (young importance or similar to that) of the club president or owner, which, being low, does not allows you to upgrade youth facilities. The only way for that to change is if the clubs reputation also grows or a new board.

That new feature screwed us in the YAC. :seagull:

With that, we're now sitting 80th in the world rankings. I'm hope we can get out of the group stage during the European Championship and keep on improving the ranking to get an "easier" group for the WC Qualifiers.

S4 – Serie C (Italy, D3)

Takeover

We faced a little fight at ownership level, after two parties were willing to take over our club. No big chances however, the new Italian chairman pumped the "huge" amount of €8.000 into the club.

Transfers

As for players that did not come back to our club after summer, we first have Arlotti who joined Catania. He did not want a new deal, so it was now or never to make some cash out of him. Moreover, one of our Sammarinese internationals left us. Tosi had more and more trouble to catch up with the level, so we decided to let him go to a lower tier at Caldiero. Both of them were extremely valuable for our team the past three years.

Lastly, we loaned out some youngsters. Amongst them Giannini, I felt both him and the national team could benefit from some first team experience which he’ll seek at Tamai (5th tier).

Better news is that our Sammarinese twins stay at the club! Both Giacomo and Tommaso signed a permanent deal after their contract at Sassuolo expired. Furthermore, we added two other defender to our squad: firstly, left back Baroncioni did not get a contract renewal at Bologna and wants to try and break through here, while 18yo Berardelli was snooped from Ravenna on a free where he was a regular starter last season in the Serie D. Finally, we secured Boccia (SPAL) on a very cheap loan (€50 p/w) as a versatile forward to come off the bench.

Season summary

Last year, we qualified for the promotion play offs but I felt like we were not ready yet then. Now, I felt like the squad was stronger and more flexible as well in terms of possible tactics. Our first game of the season gave us high hopes, as we humiliated Siena in their own ground (2-6). The tone was set and off we went. Apart from a terrible month of November, we had a very decent first half of the season.

As I thought we could get even more out of the team, after the winter break we switched back our tactic to a 4-4-2, like in the first two seasons. This seemed to be an excellent move, we won our first game of 2026 with 5-0 at home and continued on this positive streak. With teams really packed together, play offs were a no-brainer but even 1st place looked plausible… Just before the final game of the season, the race for the championship in our league was still open.

Result? We beat mid-table team Imolese at home with a smooth 2 goals difference, while our rivals Ancona and Piacenza “choked”: champions! On to the Serie B!

We also took the Serie C Super Cup home after a win against Catania and drawing Citadella:

f5c0e5b6695e0a06a772aeafcd5b7bd7.jpg

Player of the Season has definitely been Nanni, as he was the top scorer of the league (17G). Our long serving captain Sabba also won us a lot of games (13G, 6A), same goes for Mamona (12G, 7A) and Berardi (9G, 7A).

Youth intake

Our junior coaching was improved. Decent intake, but again, maybe not in terms of this challenge. Only one Sammarinese player coming through, Cevioli.

S4 - National team

Let’s be short about our remaining World Cup Qualifiers Group games. We lost ‘em all, scoring two goals and conceding 20:

Two friendlies in March were supposed to try some new things out and especially, to try and get a positive feeling again. Against the Suriname of Becker, Klaiber and Haps we did not manage to score, but also didn’t allow them to score: 0-0. Cyprus on the other hand was too strong for us, 2-1 (goalscorer: Fabbri).

Remarks:

- New interesting prospect from Serie B side Ascoli: Flavio Cinque. I have a feeling he might jump straight into the starting XI next season.

- Nations League draw for upcoming season:

Hi everyone, i'm back

i wasn't able to play FM23 lately, but when i got back to my SAN MARINO-JUVENES/DOGANA save i got this surprise

A NEW STADIUM OF 5750 seats named after a SAN MARINO real life LEGEND (Usually the first stadium build is about 2000 seats max)

(The image of the stadium is fake, i searched for one that has around the same amount of seats)

Made it to Serie B with Victor San Marino, really enjoying this challenge, but my finances are nowhere near what I'd hoped in Serie B.

I've just made it to January and am £250k in the red!

I was hoping that Serie B would see me more profitable to have some cash to improve the training/youth facilities and sign players for a fee.

Guessing this only happens in Serie A?

When I was on my way up I definitely had the feeling that staying more than two seasons in Serie B might very well bankrupt the club. At that stage you don't have enough money to get a new stadium, your 700 seater doesn't generate any money and the prize pool in Serie B isn't all that great either. And because of the balance always being slightly in the red, you can't really improve your facilities either.

Do you get any prize money for finishing below the top 3?

The "rules" section only have prize money for the top 3 which feels odd!

Just €250k?  No problem!  I just finished my 4th Serie B season €3.4M in the red!  Fortunately..... we snuck a win in the playoffs, and our first season in Serie A will wipe out the debt --- even if we go straight back down.
I got stuck in a 750 cap stadium due to a bug, so was losing more than €150k/mo on average.  Got bailed out a bit by the board, a couple €600K or so cash injections kept things from getting too much overboard, and the sponsorship helped as well.
You should be okay.

As previously mentioned, we managed promotion with Victor San Marino to Serie A.  After finishing 6th, we made the playoffs for the 3rd time in 4 seasons in Serie B.  In the preliminary playoff round, down 3-2 late in the match, Lorenzo Moscatelli came up with a brilliant 82nd minute goal (his 2nd of the match) to equalize, and we advanced as the higher seed (I still don't like that rule, but it worked for us for once!)

That set us up for a home and away semi-final match vs Reggina, and despite getting outshot 18-3, we held firm at home for a 0-0 draw.  That meant we needed an away win as Reggina would have the seeding advantage in event of a draw.  We were very lucky, as Reggina had a man sent off in the 32d minute with a straight red card, giving us a full hour of play a man up, and we took every advantage -- with both Moscatelli and fifth year striker Bracco getting on the scoresheet for a 2-0 win, and our first ever playoff finals appearance.

Once again, Moscatelli was the hero, netting his 27th goal of the season (26 league goals) for a 1-0 home win; and more than 34.5K fans watched as goalkeeper Fontanelli managed to stymie Palermo at every opportunity, as Palermo managed 22 shots (7 on target), but were unable to break down the defense --- a 0-0 draw at Palermo sent us thru and up to Serie A after a 1-0 aggregate win.

Sammarinese players Santi (DL), Gasperoni (homegrown DC), Pedini (homegrown DC), and, to a lesser extent Mignemi (homegrown AM/R-ST) played pivotal roles throughout the season, as well as playing key roles in the national team.

New Victor San Marino Stadium is now open, seating 9540 fans, and was christened with a 1-0 win in the Italian Cup.  Serie A is going surprisingly well, as after 11 matches we sit 7th with 17 points.

Meanwhile, European Division C is also going well; after 4 matches we sit 3rd with 5 points, leaders Armenia and Iceland are on 7 points.  We would be on 6 points with 3 draws and a win, but Iceland managed a game winning goal at 94:40 in a match that had 4 minutes of stoppage time :P

Matches against North Macedonia (2 pts) and Iceland coming up to finish the series --- we should be solidly able to avoid a relegation playout, and have a chance to sneak a win and promotion yet!

Sadly, Nanni has announced his retirement --- he will be retiring in June of 2035, giving me the final two matches of this season, the two spring matches, and two June matches---and he only needs 4 goals to reach the magic number of 50.  He'll be featuring in every match I can put him in!

UPDATE:  Nanni just hit goal #47 to take a 1-0 lead vs N. Macedonia in the 23rd minute!
Update 2:  And gets a 2nd for #48 to take a 2-1 lead at the half!

2034's International results are in:

image.thumb.png.3b30c354a4c5b1a1a0e6319c87ff86bc.png

A very solid campaign, which, but for an extended extra time in the first match vs Iceland, would have been a lot closer.  Definitely making progress!

Incremental change, looks like we've moved up to 169th in world rankings.

What's the view on me starting this challenge again on FM22?

I don't own the latest version of the game (tried it out on GamePass previously) and am not expecting to purchase it any time soon, but want to play the save.

Maybe I'll get somewhere if I don't buy FM24 too! :D

With Nanni retiring in June of 2035, and a very tough draw for the Euro qualifiers, I opted a very easy March friendly --- picking US Virgin Islands for what might be Nanni's last chance at the magic 50 goals.  He didn't disappoint!

This is FM 22 but here also this is my old file, I started new 2 months ago. In my save the play-offs is the number 1 to 12. Yes I can win everything in the League en still not be champions. The last seasons here there was a clear top 5 so almost every time the same clubs in Europe

Yeah I'm having the same problem with Tre Penne, can't get above half a star youth facilities even though training, junior coaching and youth recruitment are all really good.

Tried this a few times as YA only and Sammarinese only but always get to a tipping point where the enjoyment fades before the club is capable of competing, decided this year just to focus on getting the club up and running in Europe and dragging the rest of the teams along with me long term.

Been running the San Marino challenge in FM23, playing as Juvenes Dogana (& NT manager) -

About halfway through Season 3 and suffice to say club management is simple, have been raiding the free agent market pretty reliably and have had a strong team in place across all 3 seasons (after my first round of signings I think I was 1-50 on to win the league and has been shorter odds than that since) -

Season 1 - Campionato Sammarinese & Coppa Titano Champions - 58 players signed (15 sold),
Best signing - Seybou Koita - 20 Goals in 15 games - 7.89 Average Rating
Koita.png.6413af13de0cabbfca823f111642402f.png

Season 2 - Campionato Sammarinese & Coppa Titano Champions again.

Ater falling at the UEFA Champions League 2nd Preliminary Round to Valur (Iceland), proceeded to beat Lincoln (GIB), Rakow (POL) & Shkupi (N.MAC) in the Europa Conference League Qualifier's and qualify for the Europa Conference League group stage, a nice £2m bank balance boost and approx 3-4 seasons earlier than expected.
A Europa League group of Sevilla, Genk and Olimpia meant I didn't hold out much hope of progression but did upset the apple cart a little at home, only losing 2-1 to Sevilla (who scored a 92nd minute winner), and beating Genk & Olimpia 1-0, although despite this we still finished bottom of the group (2nd-4th all had 6 points)

Thanks to the sudden massive boost in funds tried to persuade the board to go Semi-Professional but was turned down, much to my frustration, did get a couple of youth and training upgrades through though.

38 players signed (44 sold)
Best signing - Andres Garcia - 31 Goals in 23 games - 7.62 average rating
Garcia.png.105c995b0f727b9b5992a0ef46ae5c93.png

Season 3 - 17 players signed so far (11 sold)

Beginning of season 3 and the board came and offered an upgrade, always expect these to be increased wages for Physio's or some such nonsense, in this instance I was pleasantly surprised as they requested to turn Professional skipping Semi-Professional altogether, which I have never seen in all my years of FM.

Able to tie some of my key players down to contracts, but have been very stringent with the budget and have set £1,600k p/w as max wage I will pay (before the CL qualification), means half our players are still on Amateur contracts, but have been buying any promising 16/17yo San Marino youth players to try and improve them and drag the National team up a level as well in the next year or two.

Still the lowest ranked nation in UEFA club co-efficients, so taking the long route to European qualification but suffice to say the boys were up to the challenge...

ChampionsLeague.png.bab99a7b4a4933d033124e1226db8ce0.png

Qualifying for the group stage of the new Champions League, an unexpected £12m payday that should secure the future of the club for many years to come.
Blessed with trips to Monaco, Astana, Dortmund & Juventus, while welcoming Wolfsburg, Real Madrid, Benfica & Lazio.

Arguably the crowning moment of the season so far, a 3-2 win against Wolfsburg in our first ever CL game proper, after being 2-0 down at HT. Lost 5-0 away in Monaco before turning over Astana 3-1. We sit 16th after 3 games above such notable names as Juve, Napoli, Real Madrid, Dortmund, Arsenal and Liverpool, crazy.

Kicked off the league winning 11-0 and 10-0 in our first two games. something tells me I'm on for a three-peat.

Yep I'm now over a decade in with Tre Penne and I must admit it's getting a little stale...

I've previously had success with the San Marino challenge by taking over San Marino Calcio in the Italian leagues and having a super long-term save with them. Decent San Marino regens came through and all was fine.

The issue here is that I'm yet to have a decent Sammarinese regen come through at all in over 10 years, and that's despite upping the youth recruitment and junior coaching to the max. I'm now in the CL group stages every year, and have made the knockouts once, so the club is in good health with perfect training facilities and a ton of money (although still only 2* youth facilities). But I wonder if there is just an inherent in-game feature meaning you will never get a decent Sammarinese regen through in the Sammarinese league, no matter how good your youth recruitment/coaching and youth coaches are.

Has anyone found any different?

I did 10 years at Cosmos and after 5 seasons I started to produce at least one "good player" (for the San Marinese standard) per season. Even produced a proper wunderkid at one point. Around that time, San Marino Academy also was producing useful players for the national team. Then I moved to Victor San Marino and at that point for a few seasons, Cosmos started to produce a major player every season.

I'm now 10 years in at Victor and I'm starting to produce decent level players.

Okay interesting, how good were your facilities at that point?

I have maxed out training, youth recruitment and junior coaching, with 2.5* youth facilities now and some brilliant youth coaches, but just nothing coming through. Even reached the Round of 16 in the CL with Tre Penne this season - really frustrating.

A bit late on this update---had been away on holiday to visit family.  But, I finally finished my first season in Serie A --- and it was a season beyond all expectations.

image.thumb.png.bb777e307033b0edb2b50a15b97e5501.png

We flirted with that 7th place European spot most of the season, but, as you can see, there ended up being a large gulf between 7th and 8th place.  A tough run of matches near the end of the season knocked us down to 11th, before finishing with a decent final couple of games to move back to 9th.  Not much in the way of plans for the next season (2035/6) --- going to try to solidify our financial position, get some facility upgrades, and then maybe in the 3rd Serie A season make a push for European spots.  We already have a decent financial position, having gone from about 3M€ in the red to 10+M € in the bank, and have already taken the first steps on improving both training and youth facilities.

Already half-way through the 35/36 season, we're still sitting mid-table, flirting with European spots, but, more importantly, have improve training facilities to Adequate, youth facilities to Average, and Youth recruitment/Jr. Coaching to Average.  Hopefully we'll continue to improve these, get a couple decent youth intakes (My 2036 intake features one "class A" wingback, 1 "Class C" goalkeeper, and a bunch of lesser candidates.  Hopefully the 2037 class is better :P

Meanwhile, we were handed a very tough group in the Euro qualifiers, in what seems to be a step backwards in with the National team.

image.png.b56caa531e34379301d43a46e1389ed7.png

We played well overall, but it's clear that we still need a few puzzle pieces to really make the push upwards.  Nanni has retired, having reached the 50 goals scored milestone (finished with 51) thanks to that friendly hattrick against the US Virgin Islands (A tactical decision I made, as I was sure that this was his best chance at getting the two goals that he needed for the milestone).

The Euro qualifiers knocked us back a couple of spots in the world rankings, knocking us back down to 171st.

I had everything maxed out except the youth facilities (there's some issues around those).

Do you also have a good Head of Youth Development ?

Yep really good, I'm now at 2.5* reputation though so fingers crossed it might enable me to improve a bit more soon!

Our best 2-game series to date with the national team:

image.thumb.png.dd810844fd36e82571c67a5765104524.png

Georgia was ranked low-mid 80s at start of season, and North Macedonia mid-90s.  Looking to be a decent season in International League Div C.

Meanwile, Victor San Marino are solidiying themselves as contenders in Serie A, finishing the second season 9th, with 3 more points and a goal differential 16 better (roughly) than the first Serie A season.

The 2036/7 season is shaping up quite nicely, with a new striker bagging 11 goals in 8 matches so far.  Team is currently sitting 5th after 7 league matches, including 1-1 and 2-2 draws vs Lazio and Atalanta respectively (two teams we've had problems with in the first two seasons.  I'm excited to see where the season takes us.

San Marino qualified for their third international tournament, the 2044 European Championship. And we did fairly well.

Results.PNG.7a5421c6f24719dcd3445b5200e8ebbe.PNG

Solid group stage. Very surprised that the B Squad managed to grab a draw against Spain. We finished first and then beat Scotland in a game that should not have been that tight. Bit frustrated with the loss to Germany, I was dominating the game until my center back got a red card at the end of the first half. From there it was too difficult to do anything really. France won the tournament.

With this,  San Marino is now sitting at 29th in the World Rankings.

Here's the key players of the team.

Piacentini.PNG.ba6b0490413b271892270b57b220af21.PNG

Andrea Piacentini Produced by Cosmos. The Superstar. Current Golden Ball holder. Cosmos produced him the season after I left. I managed to get him at Victor and he grew with the team.

Finardi.PNG.f38c5d19d50a6e20500c2983f2f595e6.PNG

Riccardo Finardi: Produced by Cosmos. The first world class player produced by a Sanmarinese team. He was paramount to get the team in the Top 100 in the World Rankings and now he also get to play major tournaments. He's nearing the end of his career and will be difficult to replace.

Barberio.PNG.bdd4d3e4fc9f6e857dcd7d00c2154c5f.PNG

Pierangelo Barberio: Produced by Cosmos. Well, this guy appeared right when Colombo, the former GK, was retiring. 20 international goals as he's my penalty taker for absolutely no reason. He scored one in the 2040 Euro final. I'm lucky with this guy as the country has failed to produce any other decent keeper. Should be in the team for 10 more seasons. Will likely reach 200 caps.

Bottone.PNG.e22806c5df2aa446c068fdc987481449.PNG

Giovanni Bottone: Produced by Cosmos. I poached him as soon as Cosmos produced him and trained him myself. Solid striker. This player pretty much forced me to play with 2 guys up front, which has been going well anyway.

Zavoli.PNG.c2dbc724ce512e74bdae7973360974d4.PNG

Alberto Zavoli: Produced by San Marino Academy. I poached him as I was still coaching Cosmos. Part of the first generation that helped with winning the Nation's League C and B.

Imperiale.PNG.5460db94c339e8e25488f4eed007cfe6.PNG

Michele Imperiale: Produced by Cosmos. Produced the same year as Finardi. Also part of the backbone of the national team.

Ceccoli.PNG.1acc108d73485f0326e28218dea5e5f9.PNG

Riccardo Ceccoli: Produced by San Marino Academy. He's not really a key player anymore, but he's a Legend. Paramount in all the early success and the growing process. I still start him in friendlies to have him reach 150 international goals.

Some of those players are getting towards the end of their career and will have to be replaced. With Victor, I'm starting to get decent prospects for the future. Maybe not at that level just yet but it's looking alright. Cosmos, however, has not produced anyone interesting in a few years now.

Which leads me to an observation. I have discussed this with people doing a similar save in countries like Liechtenstein and Faroe Islands. The quality of the players that are produced seems to be directly related to how the clubs from that country are doing as a whole in European Competitions. It seemed weird to me at first, but when it was brought up to my attention, I made the same observation. In essence, all those players here were produced when San Marino only had 3 teams going into European Cups. Then, with good performances from Cosmos (they still reach the CL Group Stage 12 years after I'm gone) a 4th team started to play the Conference League. They never did well though, so the average performance from San Marinese clubs dropped. And the quality of players produced also dropped. Then with Victor, I've had everything maxed out for a while now (except the usual youth academy that no one can max out anyway) but never really produced anyone interesting ... until I reached the Champion's League final. The quality of the players Victor produced has massively improved since. I did not change my HoYD, didn't have any more increase in infrastructure and such. I really seems like European performances boost massively the quality of players.

Everything is going well with Victor. I've won 4 Serie A in a row, 3 cups and the Champion's League. I'm getting confident that the club will survive without me so I'm probably going to go back to the San Marinese league to improve other clubs. Maybe try to have 4-5 clubs maxed out, see if it helps.

@jerzy Can you see your youth rating in the editor?

1a489b36970a613fb1945125d07b81c0.png

I got mine up to 50 with my Folgore save where I got to 2071 before I quit that save. Had a minimum of 3 teams in Europe and sometimes 4 without managing the other teams en got the youth rating to 50. Maybe it has to do with this in combination with the Sanmarinese teams in Europa.

I never could figure out what triggered the Youth rating increase
