And, Finally, a competitive win for the National team!  Took both a penalty and an own goal, but we managed to beat 140th ranked Lithuania in the World Cup qualifiers.  The win *should* mean we don't finish bottom of the table now too!

edit:  Nanni now with 13 international goals.  Also, the win saw us jump for spots to 204th!

Slow improvements, but improvements nonetheless.  (Lost 7-0 to them in our first meeting).  One match left, against the Czech Republic, and we'll likely end our first WC quals with 4 points.  Which will put us above Lithuanian on the table baring a miracle win by that team.

And, a 7-1 defeat in the final WC match brings this years campaign to a close.  Final schedule looked like this:

image.thumb.png.f1537b8b5382ad432ddce793fd565d5c.png

Finished with 4 points (draw and win vs Lithuania), to finish 5th on table ahead of Lithuania.

Was good enough to receive this welcome message.

Only moved up 3 spots total from our starting spot, up to 205th.  Long ways to go yet!

In the meantime, about mid-way through the 4th season with Victor San Marino (3rd in Serie D), and we're actually challenging for promotion, with 28 points from 14 matches, 2nd only behind Aglianese (on 31 points).  Might actually have a bit of a chance here...if we don't fall apart and turn all of our wins into draws as we did last season :)

I have been away for a while so just caught up on your journey, well done! it has been an incredible ride for you!

Have you got a really good tactic maybe? I mean this in the nicest way but you over achieved with some of those players you had to win champions league! Well done though, love reading all your updates!

Cheers mate. I use a downloaded tactic but I can't remember what it is called now as I left FC Domagnano to go manage Victor San Marino and I use a different tactic with them.

I think it was a Jurgen Klopp inspired tactic.

Sorry I wasn't much help.

On to Serie C, after 3 seasons in Serie D.  Really shored up our defense this season --- first two Serie D campaigns saw us top 3 in goals scored, but 16th then 13th in goals conceded.  Without losing any offensive capabilities (with one to play, currently 1st in goals scored), we shored up the defense and are currently joint 3rd in goals conceded.  Two new DMs and a D(RC) who split time as center back and right wingback as needed really helped us out.

Season 5 will feature our first foray into Serie C.  And, as I comb through the news articles, it looks like we'll be turning pro!!!!  (this despite losing an average of £25k/mo).  Our initial budget is £8.25k/wk  (about the same as this season, but twice what I'm actually spending), so I should be able to find some nice additions to the squad.

The National Team is still shaping up.  4 points in our WC Qualifying stages were a new record for the team :)    Two friendlies in the beginning of 2026 (Turkey and Cyprus) were very poor, and we have a long ways to go still in that regard.  Andorra and Luxembourg for the European league should provide us some chance of making headway in the national stage however.

Nanni's 22nd international goal helps us win the International League Division D --- next up (I believe) is a playoff for promotion from Div D.

Looks like no playoff needed --- promotion from Div D!  Also cracked top 200 (now ranked 199 in world), jumping ahead of two European teams (Gibraltar and Liechtenstein).  Next European team a fair ways off (Andorra at 172, almost 100 points ahead).

Hi everyone, I've been doing this for a few seasons and have now just became aware of this thread. So here's a post to summarise the first 6 seasons of my San Marino run.

24350.png?lm=1478905107

Quote

S.S. Cosmos is a Sanmarinese football club, based in Serravalle and founded in 1979. Cosmos currently plays in Girone A of Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio. The team's colors are green and yellow. The club is named after the New York Cosmos team.

I chose Cosmos based simply on the fact that I enjoy their colour scheme. Considering the choice of club doesn't matter all that much, the colours are a critieria as valid as any other to choose a club.

Club Football

I'm going to go over the results quickly as we all know that this isn't exactly the hard part of this challenge.

176427937_Leaguehistory.PNG.eabd854a22dd4dc0927610acd9ef2db5.PNG

I've won the league every year, as expected, never lost a game and only had one draw at the beginning of the first season. Without much surprise also, Tre Penne and Tre Fiori appear to be the strongest clubs behind me. The former has made it to semi professional level while the latter is fully pro now. Fiorita also made it to professional status despite not really having results of any significance.

1422512761_CupHistory.PNG.6a7bd4dbccda4db9fc50bcde3bd8255e.PNG

I'm still highly disappointed that I somehow managed to not win the cup during my first season. It's on the back of that victory in first season that the aforementioned Fiorita upgraded their status.

CL1.PNG.fa88bded2a46a423a117ee8929d2cb1a.PNG

CL2.PNG.9e197a44610a0c19b8924e9cd657569a.PNG

Now for the interesting stuff. I have managed to reach the Champion's League Group stage in my last 2 seasons, and even managed to get out of the group stage and play the playoff stage, probably due to a bit of an easier schedule. Prior to that, I have also reached the playoff stage of the Europa League being booted out by Sporting Portugal and the Round of 16 in the Conference League, being booted out by Gent. There's some good victories in those runs, the biggest one probably being the Benfica one even though it counted for nothing in the end. Despite those good results, I don't think I'm necessarily able to reach the Champion's League group stage every year. I still feel I'm edging it out during the Preliminaries as attested by the contest won on penalties against CSKA Sofia.

In any case, those runs got my a lot of money, which I used to upgrade my facilities.

 Facilities.PNG.3d15ab11eb797fbda6c29624158acb0b.PNG

Training Facilities, Junior coaching and Youth Recruitement are getting close to being all maxed up. However the Youth Facilities lag behind, being just basic. I'd love to upgrade them, I just haven't had the option since my very first season. I'm not sure why that is. I also have a new stadium that we don't fill for League games but it's full for the European competitions, which is good.

Key Players

Obviously at this point I rely mostly on foreign players. I managed to sign Nicola Nanni, Filippo Fabbri and Edoardo Colombo in the early seasons, and they were key players back then, but not anymore (even though Colombo still get game time in the league due to the mandatory Sanmarinese player to be on the pitch).

660434604_DanielAcha.PNG.203ab97c4119c8df1d93cc63caf8b955.PNG

Pavlovic.PNG.a86974aa8d2ff91a1d6a583e3fa09c0d.PNG

489425392_ArielDelgado.PNG.6509b5d8e6453c8aae3124c6bd784513.PNG

Badaloni.PNG.61a9443a14b2b244fd46413cd397f3a1.PNG

Acha and Pavlovic are the best player I can afford to recruit these days. The other two have been with me for a while now. Delgado was recruited as an 18yo and has been improving greatly. Badaloni has become a legend of the club, scoring 190 goals in 107 league appearances and 247 goals for 176 appearances overall. However at this point I can probably recruit better strikers so I'm afraid his time with me is coming to an end.

San Marino National Team

image

So obviously, I also manage the Sanmarinese national team. I do like many other players here, getting trashed in European/WC qualifiers and win the occasional friendly against small countries. That leaves me with the following stats.

1816111572_SanMarinoStats.PNG.7d571129b8b744181bf1229bdb5b419e.PNG

A definite improvement compared to where the team was at when the save started. I score over a goal on average and "only" concede 3.5 goals/game (thanks to Spain that I somehow always draw and that happily trash me every single time). However I have a massive achievement with this team, in the Nation's League Division D.

1157749742_LiguedesN.PNG.e111be5ff3f80dc563553cae9773fa42.PNG

The two victories against Kazakhstan are by far my biggest wins with the national team at this point. This got me into a playoff match to get into the European Championship and I was logically defeated by Greece.

Thanks to the improvement I made at club level, there's a few youngsters about whom I'm really optimistic for the future of the nation.

1665192209_MattiaRossi.PNG.db62392d1ae1b4ff3c5fc692e23ae34a.PNG

I poached this guy from San Marino Academy early on and he then refused to stay with me when the club turned pro. He left but I managed to get him back a few months later. Very similar in his abilities to Fabbri and my staff is telling me he can still improve. He's going to be in my defensive line for a long time.

Moroni.PNG.4f9dfc649b0a1430b5adafbdc69683d2.PNG

The first decent youngster that came through my academy. The staff says he's got really good potential but he's going to have to improve his physical stats. If he manages to do so he's probably going to be in the squad for a long time.

Ragini.PNG.f42d1628208fc2f0a83ce524b8fbd52d.PNG

When I saw this guy show up in my academy, I was over the moon. Such good stats for a (then) 15yo. However if my staff is to be believed, he's pretty much already at his maximum capacity, which is an absolute shame. He's still probably going to be in the squad for a while though.

Ceccoli.PNG.cd2ab5d7cbbe775009141817739eca2a.PNG

The most promising young player coming from my academy. He's got some potential according to my staff and I give him plenty of game time with Cosmos in the hopes that he becomes the leader of the National team someday.

That's it for now. The post was a bit long but I'll go into a rhythm of one post at the end of each following season and it should be shorter then. I'm quite happy to join all of you guys in this fantastic challenge.

Hi mate I think this is a bug. As it’s 15 years living in SM for citizenship. The database is correct as I checked it after the bug so no idea what causes it!

I think I may have found the problem with Victor players switching nationality at the start of the game.

In the editor, their based nation is Italy, despite the club being based in San Marino. I think when the game starts their based nation changes to San Marino as they play for the club but their "date when moved to based nation" (i beleive, havent checked ingame editor) does not change. As this is (usually) when they were born, it would put them over the San Marino citizenship requirements.

therefore, setting the "date when moved to based nation" to *roughly* when they joined the club (Victor) in the editor should fix the problem

also in the editor the nationality rules (as per english Wikipedia - is this right?) are incorrect. it is 30 years & no dual so ill fix that too.

I've made a file but want to test a little more this evening/tomorrow.

on second thought, not too sure how / what to do to nationality rules in the editor, given the complicated nature of the system and the game being more basic; https://www.sanmarinosite.com/en/infos/citizenship/

Spoiler

Choices I have;

Continuous or Accumulative
Number of years to be eligible, 15 by default, requirement IRL is 30
Allow / do not allow dual nationailty (it is allowed ingame but not IRL - if it wasnt allowed, might lock out regens?)

Like its usually 30 for people with no connection other than living there, but youd think if someone stayed for 15+ years that they have a greater connection.

edit 1: Maybe it's best to just leave the nationality rules alone, given they have worked decent in previous versions, and just fix the based nation for the Victor players.

edit 2: as if new regens play for the club, they probably live in the country with their parents - so could likely get citizenship (so effectively have the choice of national team anyway) . or they have at least done 15 of 30 years

tldr; I dont beleive the in-game nationality rules are completely correct, but leaving them as they are is at least reasonable and helps ensure playability in the long-term. I also did a year-long test, and by May 2023 none of the players that should'nt be able to have chaged their nationality to Sammarinese, so changing their "date of moving to based nation" for players that play in the Italian league for clubs with San Marino as their based nation seems to fix it. Might need to do this for the San Marino Academy, too - although I didn't notice this happening to any of their players yet.

Filippo Berardi was again our main supplier of assists and the most used san marinese player

During the season Filippo Fabbri joined as well so that we start with two san marinese players

And we've picked up this lad - I try to sign some players of a higher profile cause i think it can help with the prestige if you sign players more known than the club and its fun to see these guys performing in san marino

This guys is my newest signing and i hope he stays a bit + i need to become professional asap

Are these database upgrades available off-Steam? I'm on the Game Pass version.

depends what setup you're looking for, but I think most of them are somewhere on this thread / we have copies of them

I've attached my fix for Victor & SM Academy incorrect nationality changes (make sure it loads last) - for anyone that wants it (would need a new game)

@ChiccO could you put it in the front post? also the Victor in serie D too? as I play on a laptop so eccelenza adding 10K players is too much. - make the challenge more accesible.

@Ronaldo Beckham i see youve updated your youth recruitment a lot - is that beneficial or not? - as i thoughtit would mean youd get more players from further afield who arent eligible for the National team?

It is for the club. I mostly overlooked youngsters to bring in foreign players to help progress the club.

@6499redI have my youth intake maxed out and I still only produce Sanmarinese and Italian youngsters. I'm not getting anyone from another country at this point. I also note that most of the players coming through my academy have dual citizenship (which looks like it is incorrect but not much can be done about it). Also the Editor File I'm playing with allow people to take the SM citizenship after 5 years which is incorrect. I don't have FMRTE to change that so I guess I'll just discipline myself to keep certain players out of the national Team.

Anyway, here's a summary of my 7th season.

SS_Cosmos_logo.png

LOL.PNG.5c33b31e761e7f91e617f5f68b1bc77a.PNG

No opposition in the league as expected. This is a table that is going to be fairly common moving forward. I also note that Tre Fiori starts to really establish themselves as the second biggest team in the country. I also won the cup.

LDC.PNG.3145e4d915927a72a464155871c62693.PNG

At this point I'm protected in the draws for the Champion's League Prelims, so I reached the group stage for the 3rd time without trouble. I'm a bit disappointed with the group phase, few tight games that went the wrong way and only 4 points gained. During the offseason the board has accepted an offer for my best player without asking my opinion and I couldn't replace him (I promoted a youngster from the academy instead) so maybe that's why there's a feeling of not getting much better compared to last season.

Financially we're even for the season, thanks to the Champion's League money. I might be in a bit of trouble if I don't manage to reach the group stage so I'll keep a close eye on that. Also,

Embargo.PNG.972c3587f83f42e452467dc4ca832ef1.PNG

The club has been taken over but it doesn't change much for me. In fact, for the first time in 6 seasons I was able to ask and obtain an improvement of the Youth Facilities. Speaking of youth ...

Finardi.thumb.PNG.bac5a870b097f7c06a384092c93a039d.PNG

Zafferani.thumb.PNG.b5a1cedd3c11e404afdbce99d950e2b6.PNG

This year has produced those two really exciting new players. As you can see on the image, they're already in the National Team. Maybe not the best personalities but it appears that Finardi could really be a top player in a few years. He's probably not far from already being the best sanmarinese player ever.

898151999_NationLeague.PNG.4ee20349aeb15dc1f6c2d4a4f5b21102.PNG

I probably deserved a little bit better in both games against Cyprus (I lose both games because of goals in extra time). We finish last, unfortunately. I was supposed to play a playoff against Feroe Island but it hasn't happen yet and it's not appearing in the schedule. We've also started the qualifications for the WC ...

WC.PNG.8101e6732e3dfd550fcf46ba0ca0ef5f.PNG

This is the immediate impact that Finardi and Zafferani have made to the national team. An amazing start to this campaign that I can already consider being a huge improvement. Now obviously I won't qualify, but the team is now ranked 190th which might be the best ranking ever for the country ?

That's it for today, see you next time.

Bold of you to make accusations like that + Whats wrong with using downloaded tactics?

mate look at his results and the attributes of his star players :D and nothing per se, play the game how you want, I'm just intrigued by the method. I doubt any tactic would get that bunch consistently beating solid European sides every season.

tbh its not that difficult to beat teams from better leagues... im far beyond in years but in season four i made it the first time to a league phase in europe and manged to beat san sebastian because they used mostly fringeplayers cause they saw me as an easy pushover

If you play as Victor San Marino in the Italy divisions... Do you get Sammaraise youth intake or Italian youth intake?

Based nation of Victor is San Marino ... so most regens will have some form of Sammarinese nationality

Its a bit of a mix but you definitely produce 8-10 Sammarinese players each year

Great thread!! Really essential stuff for starting such a difficult save. I am about to start this challenge after a successful Polish build a nation.

I wanted to ask what people's experience of playing with two managers (to play the SM league as well as VSM in Italy)? I've trialed it over a few weeks and liked it but I'm still really undecided about whether I'll get tired of constantly jumping from one save to another rather than fully committing to the one save. I saw VSM starts with a SM affiliate (Cosmos I think), has anyone tried a save using 2 managers: VSM and Cosmos??
