Season Details League Table - Once we went top, we never looked back and dominated the league season. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We had a great start to the season and continued to churn out the wins throughout the campaign. F. A. Cup - League One outfit Crewe Alexandra proved to be too strong in the second round as we crashed out away from home. Carabao Cup - We played well in a losing effort away to Championship side Hull City in the first round. Papa John's Trophy - Having won all of our group games, we topped the group with ease and proceeded all the way to the quarter final before League One Oxford beat us convincingly on their own patch. Friendlies - It was another mixed bag of results as we endured a tough pre season campaign. Squad - We have some good players though the loan signings have proved to be significant. Squad Dynamics - This is as good as you would expect. Transfers In 1 & 2 - The transfer record was broken twice as £375,000 was spent on quality young players. Transfers Out 1 & 2 - £475,000 was raised as the club transfer sale record was broken a further three times. Youth Candidates - It was another dreadful intake with goalkeeper Junior Adebowale supposedly the highlight. Finances - We lost close to half a million pounds this year as we continue to struggle with finances. Key Players Lewis Orford - Signed for a then club record £95,000 from AFC Fylde, the midfielder quickly settled into life at the club. Jason Holmes - I paid Solihull Moors £110,000 to bring the Irish Under 21 international striker to the club and he didn't disappoint. Miguel Azeez - Signed on a free transfer, the versatile midfielder never let me down. Andrew Boyle - Our best loan signing this year, the West Ham teenage striker scored 37 goals in 42 appearances. Lewis Weaver - Another teenage West Ham loan signing, the right winger was sensational. Next Season A safe, mid table season would be lovely. Season Details League Table - Once we went into the promotion places, we never looked back. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Consistency was once again the key as we churned out the victory. F. A. Cup - We were very poor in losing away to Salford City, who play in the division below, in the second round. Carabao Cup - We improved on last year as we made it to the second round before we were hammered at home by Championship outfit Sheffield United. Papa John's Trophy - Despite losing an early game, we still topped our group and stormed all the way to the final, where we demolished the Chelsea youngsters to life the trophy. Friendlies - Four wins and four defeats meant it was a challenging pre season campaign. Squad - We are nowhere near good enough to go up again so we need improvements across the board. Squad Dynamics - It is still rather lovely. Transfers In 1 & 2 - I once again broke the clubs transfer record as the squad improved in quality. Transfers Out 1 & 2 - Bristol City broke our transfer sale record twice as I allowed some squad players to depart. Youth Candidates - It was yet another very poor intake with left winger Gabriel Bakare supposed to ben the standout player. Finances - We lost more money this year though we are not far off being in credit. Key Players Miguel Azeez - It was another solid campaign from the central midfielder. Josh Coburn - Signed as a backup, he was a regular scorer and cememnted his place in the starting eleven. Myles Peart-Harris - Comfortable anywhere in the middle in midfield, be in defensive, central or attacking, he was one of our best players this year. Femi Seriki - The right back surprised me by raising his game to the higher level. Omari Forsen - The former Manchester United midfelder arrived on a free transfer in November and quickly proved himself more than good enough for this level. Next Season As long as we stay clear of relegation, I will be happy. I am still waiting for major cup run, however. Season Details League Table - By being competitive throughout, we were never in relegation trouble. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were inconsistent though regularly picked up points. F. A. Cup - We did make it through to the fourth round before narrowly losing away to Brentford, who play in the same division as us. Carabao Cup - A penalty defeat away to fellow Championship outfit Derby County in the second round put paid to any hopes of a cup run. Friendlies - It was another mixed bag of results as we were just as likely to lose a game as win one. Squad - We are more than good enough to retain a mid table finish. Squad Dynamics - This is not as good as in recent seasons, though it is still rather good. Transfers In 1, 2 & 3 - I spent over £3m as I significantly improved the squad. Transfers Out 1 & 2 - Just under £5m was raised through player sales, including breaking the transfer sale record no less than four times. Youth Candidates - It was another poor intake though I am keeping two players on, including striker Mitchell Dent YP29A1. Finances - We made a profit this year as we returned to the black. Key Players Myles Peart-Harris - After I caved in and gave the central midfielder the new contract he was yearning for, he repaid me by once again having an excellent season. Mohamed Camara - The club record signing at £1.6m, the experienced Guinean international central defender added some nous to our back line when he arrived in January. Alfie Devine - Playing in central midfield, he was okay, though he is capable of so much more. Brian Maher - The former Irish Under 21 international goalkeeper only cost £80,000, though I expected a lot more. A disappointing season. Reunan Thüler - Still only a teenager, the Dutch Under 21 international striker signed on transfer deadline day in January on loan for the rest of the season. He was arguably our best player. Next Season I just want to finish higher than this season so that we are seen to be making progress. I've been playing a Dafuge-save (with Folkestone Invicta, currently approaching the 2030/31 season) since the start of FM23 and have so far documented my progress over on my own blog. Whilst I'll continue to do so, I'm intrigued by the idea of also sharing my progress with others in here. With that being said, my question towards @DazRTaylor (or anyone else involved in this thread) would be whether or not it is fine to simply share a quick 1-2 sentence review of each season (maybe with the odd screenshot), followed by a link to the respective blogpost about that season? The reason being that I already put a lot of time in writing each of these posts (since I'm not a native speaker), so I don't think I could be bothered to basically write the same content down twice for similar (if not equal) groups of people reading them. With only 1 loss from the opening 10 matches I was optimistic about our chances, but the drop from there was sharp and come Christmas we found ourselves in a decidedly unfestive 18th. Thankfully this league is rather competitive, so as we gradually found our way back to winning ways and teams around us went through struggles of their own, we climbed... and climbed... all the way up to 3rd! I don't think I've had a more ridiculous positions graph. A season more memorable for its turns of fortune than quality, no doubt, but I won't complain with this end result! We were in good control for most of the playoffs but I wouldn't say it was easy. We opened strong in the 2nd Leg of the Semi to overturn Birmingham's advantage from St Andrew's, but they stayed within striking distance of a comeback the rest of the game. Not ideal for my heart rate. Fleetwood took us all the way to Extra Time in the Final, a worry as their fitness looked a lot better than ours, but a tight offside call followed by a fluke-y '105+1 deflection from an effort from Dolan put us in front and from there we managed to sit back and hold on. Up we go again! Aside from the league antics we also had good cup fortunes this year, falling only to Arsenal's U21's (after beating Burnley's) in the Papa Johns Trophy and going all the way to the FA Cup Fifth Round before falling to QPR (after besting Crystal Palace, 11th in the Premier League). Before winning promotion, that Palace match was hands down our high point of the season, battling our way to the win with two red cards, countless strategy changes, and a cool 3.3 rating for head ref Michael Oliver. I'm not sure if that's for bad reds or if Palace actually got robbed, but I'll take it! Lots of transfers who're all pretty big improvements to the squad, but if I were to highlight a couple it'd probably be Fenton Heard, the Assists-leader in the league, and late-arrival Darko Gyabi who managed to snag the League One Goal of the Season. Thankfully everyone's happy as the board—once again—approved a training facility upgrade mere days before I was about to fail a concerningly long list of promises. Aim for next season: Stay up? I feel like I say this every time, but we'd need a pretty special transfer window to cruise through the Championship. After what feels like hundreds of reloads, I didn't get any of the sides below 1850 rep, so ended up going for the mighty Folkestone Invicta FC, mainly based on their nice badge and the location at the south coast of England (which technically is closest to Germany, my homeland). I was also planning on following even more restrictions than what the challenge already provides, but (spoilers) ended up ditching some of them when they started making the gaming experience less fun. The club profile looked like this (other facility ratings looked like this) ----- Season 1 - 2023/24: Started using a 4-2-3-1 straight away. Won the National League South title. Top scorer & key player: Adeoye Yusuff, who was part of the original Folkestone squad. No transfer fees on either end. Fairly stable finances. Finally spent 6K€ on transfer fees (all for a single player), received 275K€ from the sale of Imari Samuels to Sheff Wed. Finances still doing okay, but less than previously, at least in comparison with the wage expenditure. Won League One, largely due to some great form early on in the season. Top scorer & key player: Promise Omochere again, this time with 33 league goals. Signed players for a total of 46K€ and sold for a total of 1.4M€. Finances look fine as a result of the sales and the league prize money/solidarity scheme. This was the first season with any real investment into the club's facilities. Link to the more in-depth season four blog: To follow at the end of season 5 (reviewed two seasons at once). ----- Season 5 - 2027/28: Added context: I was supposed to start at three or more actual Folkestone academy graduates in at least 50% of league games. Abandoned the 4-2-3-1 during pre-season in favour of a 4-2-4 which later turned into a 4-4-2. Finished 18th in the Championship, but would've been relegated if I hadn't ditched the academy graduate restriction late on in the season - turns out players that would barely get a game in the National North/South can't compete at a Championship level... Top scorer & key player: Promise Omochere again, with 33 league goals - again. Signed players for 115K€, sold some for 1.8M€. Finances were still fine as a couple of million € came in through solidarity payments some weeks after this screenshot was taken. Further investment into the facilities. Won the Championship thanks to a 100% record from our last eight league games (we were 5th ahead of this run) - we honestly did look shocking in places. Top scorer & key player: Surprise, it's Promise Omochere again, with 39 league goals this time around. The entire promotion was basically made possible by Swansea as they spent 12.5M€(!!) on an unproven youngster we signed from non-league a year ago. Oh, and we spent 3.8M€ on signings, thus, spending more than 1M€ on any player for the very first time. Unfortunately, this is the season where the transfer screens get messy due to players being signed/sold before the new season technically started - this will become a theme from here on onwards (please find further visuals in the blogpost). Finances looking healthy, even without Prem TV money coming in. Further investment into the facilities (this is where I made it my top priority to get them to state-of-the-art ASAP). Don't really want to extend on this season as we were relegated in 18th despite finishing 13th in the xG table, underpreforming our xPts by about 19 points... Top scorer was Nico O'Reilly, Omochere's partner up front, with 7 league goals. Key player: Non-existent, at least from my POV. We knew we had to spend money in the transfer market and we did, yet (despite this screenshot saying otherwise), we made an 8M€ net profit on transfers this season. At least financially, the club is now rich, facilities have been upgraded, and our new stadium 13k cpacity "Folkestone Stadium" is about to be finished ahead of the upcoming campaign after two years of construction work. One of the few bright lights of this grim season was the arrival of a 15 y.o. Qudus Odogwu through the club's very own youth intake, immediately justifying any previous investment in the club's facilities. Anyway we did very well to come 2nd in the group and straight to the round of 16. In that round we faced RB Leipzig and a couple of high scoring games got us through to the quarters. There we faced PSG and a high scoring home leg was met by a good away draw. In the semis we faced another surprise package Celtic although got past them to have a final with Bayern Munich. Season Details League Table - We were always in the top six though it went to the wire and our sublime end of season form ensured we went up as runners up, on goal difference. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - We were more consistent though we still lost games we should of won. F. A. Cup - Very disappointing. We never turned up as we went out away to League One side Ipswich Town at the first time of asking, the third round. Carabao Cup - We were superb in only losing on penalties away to Premier League giants Liverpool in the fourth round. Friendlies - By winning all of our games except one, which we drew, it was nearly the perfect pre season campaign. Squad - We are a lot better than we were but nowhere near good enough for the Premier League. Squad Dynamics - As lovely as you would expect. Transfers In 1 & 2 - I spent over £5m as I significantly improved the squad. Transfers Out 1 & 2 - Some fringe players left as well as a lot of youngsters on loan as over £3m was raised in player sales. Youth Candidates - It was a better intake with Jack McDonald YP30H10, who can play on either wing or up front, being the standout player. Finances - We are in the red having lost money this year but with the Premier League monies about to come in, this won't last. Key Players Bryan Gil - Our best new signing, the Spaniard was excellent on the left wing. James Garner - The experienced central midfielder was at the heart of a lot of what we did right this year. Richard Toledo - The Uruguayan international striker had another solid campaign. Aleš Topolnik - Signed for just £1.1m towards the end of the January transfer window, the teenage Slovenian international striker hit the ground running. Gertjan Dubbink - The Dutch winger signed on loan for the season from Southampton and proved to be our best loan addition of the season. Next Season Survival. Anything else would be a massive bonus. A huge problem was the inconsistency of keeper Paton. Though he became the Scottish #1, he won us some games and he lost us more games with poor decision making and play and I am loathe to admit it- he just isn't an EPL level keeper. Our preseason additions were : Unai Hernandez free transfer Marcos Morales 1.5 Million from Uruaguayan Club Atletico Torque (min release fee) Alex Mohammed 2.8 Million from AFC Wimbledon George Stevenson 425K from Mansfield Calvin Ramsay 195K from Watford Dean McCartney 4.4 Million from Millwall Monday Sanni 300K from Liverpool Ben Doak 700K from Liverpool Micah Hamilton 375K from Hull Eliezer Mayenda 1.8 Million from Stoke Sonny Perkins Loaned from Atalanta with 625K mandatory purchase fee (during Jan window) Our only significant sales (all in Jan. with them unhappy about not starting) were: Tyrese Omotoye 230K to Remo Stars Caleb Chukwuemeka 275K to Cardiff Ryan Finnigan 675K to Burton Albion Charles Sagoe 575K to Tenerife I bear the brunt of blame for most of our poor results, I was confident I landed players that were going to do well enough in EPL play and I was wrong in many cases. Paton was a key issue, he had been brilliant for us on our way to EPL, but he just doesn't make good decisions at EPL level and when we needed some steady play- we didn't get it. I believed Sanni could be a solid rightback and maybe he will, but he didn't fit into our system and it took me until midseason to figure out that we needed Ocampo back in the lineup (despite my reservations on how he would translate to EPL). Mohammed and Morales both landed in the Top 50 NexGN wonderkid list, but they were really overmatched and inconsistent during the season. Mathebula doesn't have the pace or positioning to play regularly at EPL level. I added 24 year old Scot DC Kerr Smith from Real Betis in January, but you will notice he isn't listed above because he never played well after arriving. Ramsay was solid leftback for a bargain and he finally gave us a decent free kick and corner taker- so that addition was a win for us, but overall the backline was inexperienced and it showed all season. Another addition I missed on was Model Citizen Dean McCartney. I made him captain and believed he would be a solid EPL center mid, but he was only so-so all season and didn't contribute much to the attack which sputtered especially early in the season. Unai Hernandez looked like a perfect addition to our lineup, but he had the ball taken away from him so many times during the season he found himself deep on the subs bench in the last half. I thought Joseph Tchami wasn't really up to EPL standards (and if judged on attributes he isn't), but his presence in the lineup finally provided the midfield boost we needed to start scoring more goals. Getting Ben Doak back was a boon (I had loaned him for a season previous to this) and it would have made more of a difference if he hadn't gotten himself redcarded in the first match for a horror tackle that saw him with an additional two match suspension, which was followed by a calf injury that kept him out another month. He was back in good form by the end of the year. Ben Simpson gave us moments of good play on leftwing, but I am still wondering if he is really EPL level. I had no other quality players on the left as Micah Hamilton from Hull never gave us much all season. Sonny Perkins was an afterthought addition to give us midfield depth but he scored some key goals in the late going to help us finish 11th and I realized too late that I should have been playing him more. Louie Barry was our top scorer with 18 goals and 9 assists, but after spoiling us the last couple seasons he also gave us some stinkers. Pre-season addition Eliezer Mayenda was our early season savior in adding needed scoring (12 goals, 4 in one game) as neither Omotoye or Chukwuemeka had a goal for us season before leaving. The biggest bargain I hit on (besides Ramsay) was George Stevenson, who had never played above League 1 and had scored 10 goals there, as he worked beautifully with Barry and contributed 7 goals, 4 assists, 3 POM in limited action. Eleventh place was respectable for our first season in EPL, but now I need to retool our roster again and get us more quality to help stay up again next season while we try to consolidate our gains. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

tremor Posted February 21, 2023 Share Posted February 21, 2023 (edited) Folkestone Invicta Overview: Couple of decent seasons, not spectacular but we've battled our way to the Championship, this is where it's going to get tough and i'm still full of League 2 players. Just need to stay in the league to get the build going and steady the ship and get the facilities up to scratch otherwise i'm not going to be able to attract anyone half decent. I know the overview says 'clean slate' but we're pretty attacking and exciting to watch so I'm pretty happy with our tactics. The board is ok, but been quite miserly, they refused my coaching badges for ages until i ended up threatening to leave at which point they finally sent me for my Continental B. I hate not really being able to negotiate 'vision' with the club though, we've gone from VNS to Champ in consecutive seasons playing the way we do but I still keep getting moaned at for not being direct or not making enough of set-pieces... Oaky-FM Posted February 22, 2023 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Folkestone Invicta FC - 2030/31 (EFL Championship) Since there weren't enough Folkestone updates in here lately, I shall add my bit, too Short summary: Following last season's narrow relegation from the Prem (which also was our first season in the top-flight), there was only one aim for the season: Making it back to the promised land at the first time of asking. And we did it. Comfortably. 109 points accumulated and a positive goal difference of 86 goals, need I say more? Some minor adjustments to the 442 we've been using last season seemingly made all the difference as we looked a lot better once they were made around matchday 12. Our key player and at the same time top scorer was Wade Henfrey with 45 goals in the league (and 9 assists), quite dreamy given that we signed him on a free from Wigan ahead of the 2029/30 season. With regards to transfers, we lost some starters, including a record sale worth 35M€ (+50% sell on fee clause), turning a profit of about 23M€ across the season. This profit and the Prem's parachute payments enabled us to continue upgrading facilities, without stretching the club's finances too much. The club is still considered rich and has had 65M€ in the bank by the end of this season. Lastly, our new 13K capacity Folkestone Stadium was inaugurated at the start of the season and surprise surprise, it's already getting a first major upgrade (adding 6.8K capacity), which will see us playing our Premier League home games elsewhere - again... Naturally, the aim for next season is survival - and keeping the club's best players around. tremor Posted March 2, 2023 Share Posted March 2, 2023 Folkestone Invicta 2027-28 Championship - 6th FA & Carabao Cup - 3rd round exits to prem teams It's been a fairly good season, we flirted with a more attacking formation in the middle part and got turned over a lot so reverted to my trusty 433 DM Wide. Some useful signings but really struggled to attract the quality needed to get us out of the division. Despite a great start, we struggled in the middle of the season, too many competitions as well as injuries to key players and a change of formation. We did end up scraping into the play-offs but despite taking a 2-1 lead into the second leg of our semi, we ended up losing 3-2 to Brentford. I am finding this a particularly frustrating club to manage at the moment though, despite punching well above our weight and achieving an amazing league position i don't feel the board is backing me at all, I'm still on my Continental B license and this time my threats to leave just prompted them to offer to let me go. The lack of negotiation available in board interaction is a real hinderance. I've also just, in an attempt to convince them that I really want to stay, asked for a contract extension, they wouldn't offer me more that £750 p/w. To put that into context my Assistant is on £1100 and I am currently one of the lowest paid members of coaching staff at the club. Maybe it's just the luck of the draw but considering the club as a whole is 'Delighted' with my performance, it seems so odd for them to behave this way, i can't remember ever having this sort of struggle once i've got a team out of league 1. My heart wasn't in it as I can't settle until we get to the later patches and I know the match engine is pretty done. Having another go.. again as Guiseley. As a Guiseley season ticket holder it feels wrong to play as anyone else. Having watched them be pretty rubbish yesterday losing against Gainsborough, I'd be surprised if we see them in the conference north any time soon. Anyway.. here's my profile. Recruitment was difficult, with the first XI eating up almost the entire budget meaning that selling to allow further purchases was not possible. We played okay but lacked consistency. At the middle of the season we were pushing for top spot but form from there was patchy. Seventh place pushed us into a play-off away game against Chester who proved much too strong. They ran out 1-0 winners but the reality is we only had a single shot on target so their victory was deserved. Key Players Louis Whitham – Left winger who is the key player for real life Guiseley and did pretty well in game as well with 15 goals from the wing. I turned over pretty much the whole first team during the preceding summer using trials of released players to build a new squad. I was able to assemble a good squad although I would have liked more strength in the midfield. We started relatively poorly with 3 defeats in the first 8 games which is far from title form. The signings of centre-back’s Toto Nsiala and Ciaran Brennan in September/October were key though and gave us the base needed to push for the title. Encouragingly, all 4 of my attacking players AML/C/R and striker all hit double figures. We didn’t hit top spot until the New Year but once there we were always looking likely to run away with the league. Key Players Tyler Roberts – ex-Wolves striker scored an impressive 39 goals and was scoring a goal a game before a late season mini-drought. Alex Pattison – The journeyman midfielder signed in the summer and scored 15 goals playing in the hole behind the striker. Faramir Posted March 14, 2023 Share Posted March 14, 2023 2032-33 5th Season EPL (sorry I missed posting a couple as I was playing) After finishing 8th in 2030-31, we qualified for Europa Conference League (extra spot available after league champs Arsenal won Carabao Cup). We also finally got our own stadium in Matlock Town- a nice 27,710 seater that finally allowed us to move out of Technique Stadium in Chesterfield. We finished 5th in EPL in 2031-32 season and won the Europa Conference League over Roma. I had found the Lionel Messi Regen (Federico Parilla- 2.8 Million from Argentine lower side Villa Dalmine), but had lost him before the 2031-32 season to Borussia Dortmund on 97 Million Release Fee. I had also lost Colombian Keeper Diego Lemus to Real Madrid for 60 Million, but had found the Hugo Lloris Regen (Mike Jaffre) at French side Guingamp (6.5 Million) and his play keyed us to our 5th place finish and our Europa Conference win. We had also found a world class Belgian Winger- Rashidi Kaarsban (3.8 Million from Go Ahead) and a world class Uruguayan Rightback- Javier Munoz (425K from Danubio). Our home-grown defense struggled both seasons because they were so young, but I stuck with them because I couldn't afford top-end defenders. Our forwards continued to be led by club Icon Louie Barry, who consistently provided 18 and 19 goals in the two seasons and scored the match-winner against Roma. Our midfield also is home-grown as we featured Wonderkids Diomer Garcia (1.8 million from Deportivo Cali) and Brazilian Mazinho (16 Million from Sao Paulo), with Brazilian RW Luciano Friedenreich (8 Million from Goania ). During our late season run in 2031-32 we were keyed by deadline addition (from my GM, I hadn't noticed him in scouting) of Italian Forward Andrea Mariani (2.7 from Atalanta). Before 2032-33 we landed two key additions - 18 year old Spaniard Forward Eric Gandara from Deportivo Alaves for 10 Million and 20 year old German RW Michael Brenner from Borussia Dortmund for 10 Million. Gandara won the Golden Boy award and was top NXGEN Wonderkid. Getting both of them without the dreaded release clause was a key to our success. We also added one important DC to the mix as Bruno Vinicius from Gremio for 19.75 Million. During the January Transfer Window we were gutted when Real Madrid raided us for Mike Jaffre for his 98 Million release fee on Deadline Day (they paid us 158 million for their two keepers). We were left scambling and paid West Ham 24 Million for Ghanian GK Frank Fotso to take over as #1 (we didn't have a good alternative on the squad). With most of our core players onboard for the past couple seasons we jetted into the EPL lead in the early going and scored key early wins over holders Newcastle and Manchester City and due to the fact that the 5th place club was also awarded a Champions League spot (England and Spain got the extra spots), we were in the League Phase. We played well in that phase defeating Kobenhaven, Anderlecht, Thessaloniki before we stunned Atletico Madrid and Inter. We then edged Redbull Salzburg before finally losing a close match to Monaco. We thumped Ajax 6-2 to end up with an excellent qualifying spot for the Round of 16. We drew Atletico Madrid and edged them 2-1 in Madrid. In the 2nd leg they scored a dramatic late equalizer to push into Extra-time. Colombian Striker Derlison Borrero (a key depth forward for us) went on a rampage and scored a hat-trick to send us onwards. While this was going on we kept storming the EPL as our young players finally had played enough to really bloom together and first place with a comfortable margin as we reached mid-season After dumping Newcastle in the Champions League Quarter-Finals as we drew 1-1 at St.James and then defeated them 3-0 at Matlock Town. In the Champions League Semi-finals we had a grudge to settle with Real Madrid (and them taking three key players from us on MinFee Releases - we also lost key Winger/Forward Iker Rios to them for 54 Million) and scored a stunning come from behind 2-1 win at Bernabeu, thanks to a late match-winner from Louie Barry (against old mate Mike Jaffre). We edged them 1-0 at Matlock Town thanks to none other than POM Frank Fotso, who was brilliant in several key stops under enormous pressure. Our strong play in EPL continued and we were soaring with 5 matches remaining. We finally closed out the EPL Title chase as we hammered Manchester City 3-0 at Etihad to ensure the Title. In the Champions Cup Final we faced AC Milan, who had upset Paris SG in the other Semifinal. It was another dazzling, taut match and Fotso was again our savior as he saved a first half penalty kick to keep the match scoreless. The peerless Louie Barry came through for us again as Erik Gandara made a brilliant tackle on their defender in their area and Barry scooped the loose ball and smashed it home for the only goal of the match as we won 1-0 and Fotso earned another POM honor (justice served, maybe Jaffre wouldn't have gotten us the Champions League Crown since we showed he could be beaten). Challenge Completed- boy this was a fun season (I now have 15 Players on the squad wanted by Major European Clubs- still two with Min fee releases Munoz (110 Mill) and Kaarsban (150 Mill)- but only until I get them under new contracts now that we are flush with status and money) 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Despite starting strongly, Crewe were stronger and surged ahead of us. They were head and shoulders in the league and ended wit hover 100 points. We kept on their coat tails for the first half of the season however and it didn’t feel unlikely that a slump on their part might let us into the race. The slump was ours however. March and April were awful including six defeats. We slipped to 5th and faced 3 playoff games. Things didn’t bode well considering our poor form. We needed extra time goals against both Solihull and Bromley to progress past the first round and semi final. The final placed us against Fylde at Wembley. The game was even but a 78th minute penalty from midfielder Callum Jones was enough to secure victory and promotion to League Two. Key Players Tom Cannon – The 23 year old ex-Everton striker hit an impressive 25 goals in his 33 games. Alex Robertson – Peruvian playmaker signed following his release from Man City was excellent contributing 6 goals and 9 assists. Haha, for once I'd like to test the transfer market. So far I've made a mess, as I spent too high wages on a few players, so I have so few players I can't always fill out the bench if I have injuries! I can now offer 1(!) pound per match to non contracts max, so yeah... League League Fixtures 1 League League Results 2 Spoiler So with the league fixtures picking up then stop starting till the end of the season the club managed to get into the Playoffs..somehow Playoff Results Overall the cup competitions were not my priority but a surprise semi final in the FA Trophy was a nice distraction and in the end i was a bit gutted to be knocked out Spoiler Season Summary Overall it was a good season for Rushall labelled as relegation fodder somehow we crept into the playoffs and managed to go up into the National league but now the hard work begins again, get the squad up to scratch. Then I failed by bringing in loans without noticing the role I accepted, so a few got recalled. After a while I found some tactical tweaks that worked well and got the most from the players. The last half of the season was one of the most incredible runs I've ever had in FM! So we ended up in the playoffs, and then won the matches to see us gain promotion the hard way. I'm going to try to learn from these mistakes and hopefully I can build a good squad for next season over the summer. The board has decided to build a new stadium for us some time in the future. FA Cup: We beat Corinthian-Casuals, Hemel Hempstead Town, and Crawley Town before we lost to Doncaster in the 1st round.FA Trophy: We beat East Thurrock United before we lost to Farnborough in the 3rd round. I'm a little concerned as my finances are shockingly bad already (as expected at this level), I just weren't expecting them to be this bad until the end of next season. Used one of the saves created by @G_D_K - thanks for that! - because I already had a team in mind I wanted to manage. I'm gonna do a Start & Season 1 Update in one post, so here we go! Let's see how long it takes until FC United is the biggest club in Manchester! Starting Profile & Team Decent first team from the looks of it, not quite sure how I'm going to play yet as that will also depend on what I can sign on free, but am thinking towards a Vertical Tiki-Taka 4-3-1-2 or some equivalent. The 15-year old Morgan Jones looks like a beast in CD, already this good at such a young age, let's hope I can hang on to him for the next few years at least. Season 1 (2023/2024) After a decent display in the pre-season friendlies, we started off nicely in August and September, winning 7 of our 10 league games. No real stand-out performers, just a good team effort with the big focus on not conceding any goals while looking good in possession. I settled on a Vertical Tiki-Taka 4-3-2-1 (with a midfield 3 made up out of a Carrilero, a DLP and a Mezzala and a Target Man up front supported by a Shadow Striker and a AM) which worked for me in the past whilst managing minnows Cibalia in the 2nd Tier of Croatian Soccer. Good vibes continued throughout the year - we did get knocked out of the FA Cup (Q3) by Hereford, but managed to make it to the 5th round of the FA Trophy before being knocked out by Maidstone. To my surprise, we managed to play well enough to become champions! We only scored 72 in 46 - which has to be one of my lowest goals / game in a long, long time - but we also only conceded 42, which meant we lost only a handful of games (8 to be precise). Siepe1990 Posted April 26, 2023 Share Posted April 26, 2023 The Vanarama National Years (Season 2 & 3) Before Season 2 even started, I faced the challenge of bringing my squad up to the quality needed to at least survive the first season up. I signed four players before the season started, the most notable being attacking left flank player Francis Gyimah (who to my surprise is not a regen, but an actual player), who was released by Liverpool. Originally a left back turned to winger, he was a perfect fit for my attacking left wing back position. Other signings included George Ratcliffe on goal (free from Banbury) to improve on Lavercombe, Dave Stephens (free from Boston Utd) for some experience and quality in center back after my youth starlet Morgan Jones decided not to sign a new contract but leave for Preston U18 for free after only one full season in the first team and Sion Spence (7k from Gloucester, the first transfer fee paid). To top it all off, I managed to sign wily old Kyle Lafferty (free from Kilmarnock) for some improvement up front. The season started of decent with 4 wins and 2 draws in the first 9 games. Stephens proved to be the best signing so far (even went on to be signing of the season with a 7.17 average) and we managed to steer clear of relegation quite easily throughout the season. A good spell of form in March even pushed us to the Play-off spots, where we managed to just hang on in 7th place (even though we lost the last two matches - luckily York failed to benefit from that). We were no match for Southend in the first round however, so no promotion in this season. I wanted to improve on that season and so for Season 3 I decided to shuffle my tactic. We concede a lot more in Season 2 (58 in 46) and scored less (66 in 46), so things had to change. I decided to switch to a 5-3-1-1 I employed in another save at Watford. As you can see, I signed some more players, most notable being Mehmed Hodzic (CD released by Man City), Jason Sraha (CD released by Barnsley), Isaac Price (MC released by Everton) and signing of the season Thomas Edozie (ST released by Wolves). As you can see in the above image, we were 1st in the league by mid-November, with Edozie scoring 17 (of which 3 in the FA Cup, where we beat Welling in the 1st round), Hodzic & Sraha bossing the defense (look at those averages) and Sion Spence dominating the Shadow Striker position with both assists and goals (he ended up with 12 goals and 15 assists in the season and a 7.20 average!). In the FA Cup, we even managed to beat Peterborough in the 2nd round, before losing to Middlesbrough in the 3rd round. Somewhere along the way however, Edozie stopped scoring goals... Which saw us drop out of 1st place (by a dominating Notts Co) and even down to the lower play-off spots, before Edozie finally find his scoring run again. He propelled us back up to the 2nd place, which meant another round of playoffs! We managed to beat Solihull Moors in the semi final (two goals by Edozie in the 65th and 90th (!!!) minute for a 2-1 victory), after which Bromley awaited in the final. This one was actually easier than the semi final, we were in control throughout and won comfortably with 2-0. We were promoted to Sky Bet League Two! This was an insane season, with promotion on the last day... but now I'm getting ahead of myself a little. At the beginning of the season, I once again faced the challenge of bringing the squad up to speed for this higher level. Main focus was finding a good right back, a top goal keeper and some playmakers (seeing as my main problem was getting enough balls through to my striker). The right back was the first to arrive in the form of Kwaku Oduroh (23), Man City graduate before playing for Derby the last couple of years before being released. Next in line were two playmakers: (A)MC Neil Owen (18), the first transfer fee for FCUM at 37k, coming from Airbus UK where he assisted 36 and scored 17 in the last 3 seasons, averaging at 7.21 overall, and C/DM/M/AM (C) Cian Coleman (21), Leeds Utd graduate who played a decent season on loan at Leonesa before being released on a free. Last but not least, I decided to tap into my spending power (generated after selling Italy U-21 starlet Ojinnaka to Pescara - sad to see him go, but his heart was set on it and the profit of 100k was very nice) and brought in GK Killian Cahill (22), IRL playing at Brighton U21, in game coming from Rochdale, for a whopping 245k. And just when I thought all was done, I signed released Man Utd (A)MC Ali Saeed Al-Mansoori (18) on deadline day after he finally dropped his demand of being a star player and earning top bucks. Who of these stood out you ask? Well, almost all of them. Oduroh did a decent 6.88 average, proving a decent defensive option on right back whilst also being nicely involved in build-up. Neil Owen didn't reach the figures he did at Airbus UK, but with 7 assists, 2 goals and a 6.93 average he was still a very decent signing. Biggest surprise for me were the performances of Cian Coleman, who I ended up playing as a Libero, resulting in a 7.13 average for the year. Even better though were the amazing goal keeping performances of Killian Cahill, which earned him the title of 'Signing-of-the-Season' with an amazing 7.20 average. We conceded only 31 goals in the entire season ; flip side of that is that we only scored 47... Of these 47 more than half (28) were made by Edozie, which earned him the title of Topscorer for the 2nd year in a row. But as I said earlier: promotion was a surprise which came only on the last day. Just look at the points in the image below: only 6 points separate us in 3rd place with Wrexham in 11th... It was insanely close for the entire season, as you can see in the small league positions graph as well. On the last day, we won 3-1 at home against Barrow (3 goals by Edozie), but more importantly Leyton (0-0 vs Morecambe), Exeter (0-3 vs Port Vale) and Cambridge (1-1 vs Crewe) didn't win their games, propelling us up to the 3rd place and a direct promotion - let the Sky Bet League One Years commence! 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
