_Ben_
Manager movements Maicon has done well at Espanyol so this does seem a bit of a sideways move, but... His old friend Kayky takes his place.

_Ben_
Retired Players I'm now at the point whereby several players in those key years have now retired: A few others, such as Fernandez, Joao Carlos, Cris and Lorran Pereira Santos are not far off, either. _Ben_
2043 Update Another league failure and, surprisingly, the worst Carioca performance in at least ten years. Another Liberdatores victory is probably the only highlight of this season. --- Joao is aging, but again, has shown his worth as he approaches his 950th career game, which is a huge achievement. Geilton is ticking along at Steaua, but isn't performing well. In some other moves - Romario Orlandelli, after 22 games in 3 years for Man City has moved to Burnley, Elias Custodio Santos has ended his pairing with other Volta-graduate Antonio Carlos but moving to Zenit for £17m and Isaac Ferretti also left Man City, to join Inter for £40m. _Ben_
Managerial move Just like Kayky, Maicon isn't sticking around long: BMG are on a massive downward slide but arguably the biggest of his managerial jobs to date.

_Ben_
Cabral gone Just £47m (compare to £80m for a 20-year old striker with a 2-year loan back when I first sold him) for a peak Cabral sees him move to the blue side of Manchester - following in the footsteps of Isaac Ferretti, Romario Orlandelli and VInicuis in years before him. Despite scoring 28 times in 37 games during my last season - he's only scored 38 times in 94 games since then, with his drop off in form being totally alien to me, given how good he is. That leaves the following players left at the club from my tenure: With Vini and Leonardo possibly going soon, too - that leaves just four players (and only Joao Fernando who actually played for me) remaining at the club in 3 years since I left - an astonishing turnover of more than 40 players leaving. It is certainly disheartening to see this club disembowelled but, like I've mentioned before, this save was all about the player and not the team - which is why I'm continuing to focus largely on where my players are going rather than crying at the state of the team! _Ben_
2044 Update Yet more domestic failures paired with another Liberdatores title - their third in a row since I left, taking them to five overall titles. The real test will be the CWC, held, again, next summer. Joao is aging but is two games away from 1000 - with 650 goals coming in his 998 games across a wonderful career. It is clear that his scoring has dropped - from 0.71/game to nearer 0.65/game now but he's added assists to his game - with 56 of his 119 career assists coming in the last four years. --- The crop of youngsters who I was developing before I left have all gone on to make moves and are progressing well:
_Ben_
1000 games Joao Fernando marked his 1000th club game with a brace against Duque de Caxias. Interestingly, they have signed Hian Martins for £38m as a Cabral replacement - he was a player I saw when he first generated at Botafogo and I was interested in him, but felt that he'd stifle opportunities for academy strikers. I have achieved this before, but only with a goalkeeper and only taking into account international appearances (which, being as he was at San Marino, was considerably easier) so this is a fantastic result. _Ben_
Volta Redonda at the 2045 CWC Yeah, that's terrible! A loss to Corinthians means they don't even make it out of the group! _Ben_
2045 Update Nearing the end of my time simming now... Another disappointing Carioca State but Volta have finally ended their duct and won the league, although, it appears that it was only just! This has come at the expense of another Liberdatores title, as they lost 2-1 in the final to Gremio. Joao had his quietest season to date and appears to be being pushed out a little as he nears retirement. I think that this sim will finish when he does - unless, of course, he goes on to become a manager... Speaking of which: Kayky continues to do well, whilst BMG had enough of Maicon before he moved on to Roma and, sadly, Edilson took a poor Vitoria side down. _Ben_
2046 Review Back to the top, for another year. A second place Carioca State and a Quarter Final of the Liberdatores though are poor performances. Feeder club Barcelona (RJ), have made the biggest moves of all, but sadly, were relegated from Serie B this year. Joao is slowly fading with, once again, his worst scoring season. He's on massive wages with 2 years left on his deal though so I envisage that he'll be a one club man, even if that does push forward his retirement due to not necessarily playing as much as he wants to. My old staff are doing well, with Maicon in particularly proving his early-career doubters wrong with a good 68% win ratio from his first 50 ties as Roma manager. _Ben_
2047 Review Another year done and another disappointing league for Volta, although they have managed to hold on for six years since I left and still be near the top of the league. Joao is winding down and has announced that he'll retire in a few weeks - but he's being asked to reconsider, so I'll await news on that. Managers are coming and going - Maicon didn't last long at Roma and Edilson moves to Osasuna, where he spent some time as a player.

Tom14
An absolutely mind-blowing thread. I'm going back to re-read it all. I found the statistical tracking and recording of players fascinating and it is definitely something I'll do myself once FM21 is out, so I'll apologise now for stealing one or two of your spreadsheets. Loved this and the Guadalajara thread - another one I keep dipping in to. Bravo!

I must admit that, since lockdown ended and my time has not solely been devoted to FM - the analysis and tracking part of my save has dipped but I've got some plans afoot for FM21 to sort that out! Popular Post _Ben_
10 years on: The End. The date is 01.07.2051. Exactly ten years after I stepped down as manager of Volta Redonda. A LOT has changed. Here is some of it. --- Club Volta are on a downward trend. They disposed of Marcos Acuna, my replacement, in 2049 after six leagues and eight cups (compared to my 15 and 12) but I feel that the empire is crumbling and a 7th placed finish last year really demonstrates that. No longer a producer of high quality talent and no longer the side to beat in the league. --- Players I want to recap the careers of some of my favourite players in the time since I resigned. Here they are (each name is hyperlinked): Artur - GK Was part of the mass exodus as soon as I left, moving to Spurs for £29.5m. Has cemented himself as Brazil's number 1 and possibly the best goalkeeper of this generation. Jose Esdras - RB Jose was always consistent for me even if he was never really the best player on the team sheet. He moved on to Shakhtar in 2043 for £8m where he played until his early retirement at the age of just 31. I recall him having a couple of really big injuries early in his career and I think that this may be why he called quits so early. Ronaldao - RB I sold him to Valencia at the age of 18 for £60m back in 2038 and he's gone on to have a solid career - even if an AR of 6.74 from 417 league games suggests different. He moved, for £58m, to Everton in 2048 and now appears to be more versatile than ever, having pretty much moved to the right back position that I had potentially earmarked for him. Ernani - LB Volta couldn't keep him after I had gone and a £57m move to Inter ensued. He's been ever present in a dominant Inter side and is a world class full back, who is the first name on the international team sheet. Up there with the best players of his generation and one of the best players I've ever produced. Romario Orlandelli - CB £53m took him to Manchester but he never settled and three years later moved to the now-managed-by-Garry-Monk Burnley, still at Turf Moor, for £14m. One season in the Championship and pretty much ever present in the EPL since. Certainly not the silky defender that the Clarets are used to. Lucho - CB Lucho appears to be listed as he won't sign a new deal entering into the last 12 months of his and would be a coup for a top European side. He moved to Leicester at 18 for just £14.5m and has been really solid in the ten years since. Lacking slightly in pedigree to be a top international footballer, but very good never the less. Vinicius - CB Sold to Man City for his £10m release clause back in 2038 - he's gone on to be a regular in the heart of the Dortmund defence, behind two other ex-Volta players: Antonio Carlos and Elias Custodio Santos. Vinicius - CB The other one. Sold not long after I left to Stuttgart for £12.5m, Vinicius has settled into life as a defender and is now in his third season at Napoli. Luis Henrique - DM Veteran Luis is now a free agent after release by Genoa but he really made his mark in a 7 year spell at Sheffield United. Initially brought to Europe by Chelsea, he didn't make a single appearance as they made a £6m loss on their £33m import. He looks to have made the DM role his own as the Blades cemented their place in the Premier League. Cleber - AMC Joining Besiktas in the summer, this veteran has been synonymous with the Premier League since his 2042 move to Watford for £13m. They got a £5m profit as Sheffield United paired him at Luis Henrique together in Yorkshire for a few years but he never quite hit the same heights as he did in his home country. Antonio Carlos - AMC Now back in Brazil after a wonderful career with Dortmund, where he was probably the top performing export of mine. At 35, he still looks to have some left in his legs. I might go as far to say that he's the best Brazilian to never be capped! Isaac Ferretti - AML Man City snapped Isaac up when he was 18 for £15m but moved to Inter for £40m a year later. He's formed a wonderful partnership down the left with Ernani and has just won the Ballon D'Or. Possibly the best player in the world right now. Lenilton Farias Lima - AMR Part of the Man City group - brought for £76m from Leicester, where he cut his teeth, but loaned to Everton and now unused. Lenilton was just about to break through when I left but moved, for a hefty £23m to Corinthians in 2042. Joao Francisco - AMR The superstar of my CWC 2041 campaign, Joao now finds himself in China. Initially sold to Chelsea for £23m, he didn't settle before playing for Bragantino and Flamengo - doing pretty well. Seems to be in massive technical decline. Giovanni - ST I gave him Chinese citizenship as I felt the country owed him following some great performances at club level. Moved for a massive £62m but looks to be leaving now as he won't agree a new deal. Antonio Jose - ST I was pretty incensed when I saw he'd moved on for just £2m as I was fending of £30m+ moves for him! Kicked around in Brazil before moving to Eibar where he scored poorly in La Liga. Now clubless and old, he's not got a lot going for him! --- Staff/retired players The likes of Geilton, Rodrigo Dinamite and Joao Carlos retired early into this spell but a few more did as the years went on: Pacato - CB Spent 7 years in the Chelsea team that beat us in my last game before winding down in the Middle East. A top player. Now a DoF looking for a job. Christian - DM Went to Romania for four years and then came back to Boca before trying his hand at managing youth sides. Elias Custodio Santos - AMR I think Elias could have been so much more. He flopped at Barca, then excelled on loan with us, then flopped at Sociedad before excelling at Dortmund. He was a really tricky winger, in the Ronaldinho mould but hung his boots up a lot earlier (and probably isn't in a Paraguayan prison either). Cabral - ST Another early retiree - but a wonderful career, especially in his early twenties. He seemed to stop scoring sometime circa 2041 and never really regained that form at Man City and then again when he came home to Brazil with Sao Paulo. Deserved so much, but only 48 international caps tell a story too. He was my Ronaldo and, just like R9, may feel that he's left professional football in not quite the best way. There are several players who have retired and want to be staff members, but have not found first team jobs yet - here they are. But some have tasted first team management: Kayky is the most successful here but has moved around clubs very fast, including a stint at Juventus. Maicon, linked with the Man City job a few years back, has had to settle for a struggling Serie A Cagliari and is also one who has moved around a lot. Edilson, after being sacked by Sheffield United in what must have been an ex-Volta party, is now clubless with quite a poor record. It is Joao, however, that is the focus: Onto his fourth job and really developing his attributes now. He's not stuck around long but has done well: Parana: America (MG) Vitoria Botafogo ---- ---- ---- I just want to say a massive thank you to anyone who has read this. I'd love to hear any feedback about any parts of my posting/playing of FM20 and I still have this save (both saved now and 10 years ago) if there are any screenshots or data you'd like to see. I have learnt so much in this edition - with Guadalajara, it was all about the team and developing players to fit my style, whereas here it was (for probably the first time ever) all about me developing players to move on and see them flourish elsewhere - which is why I've had so much fun following, for ten years, how they've got on. It has given me a chance to really fine tune my ideas around player development and also refine and rebuild some tracking tools. Although I haven't purchased it yet, I will be buying FM21 and I do have plans for a long term save that will follow my usual style, which I'll be posting about here. Many, many thanks.
