Hi,

I'm interested with notebook HP 14s-cf2009tx with specs:

Intel® Core™ i7-10510U
8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB)
512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
AMD Radeon™ 530 Graphics (2 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
14" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)

Anyone know how many stars rating of 3D graphics capability for this AMD Radeon 530?

And also how many stars rating for NVIDIA Geforce MX230?

Thanks.

Star ratings in the game are flawed.

The processor might not be able to do it - it's only 1.8ghz at base - and FM requires 2.2ghz - I'd proceed with caution.

Both are entry level graphics cards - so play 3d on low detail level - or slightly higher if you're happy with it.

Not quite a "what new computer" should I get question, but more of a "when should I get one" - my laptop is 3.5 years old, has reasonably heavy use, for streaming to my TV, FM and some not intensive graphics games, general internet use, office etc.

Current specs:

Intel i5-6300HQ

8GB RAM

Nvidia GTX 950M

It's starting to drag, and the fans are getting louder occasionally - should I format and start again, and/or start looking for a new laptop?

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone.

You're computer should still be ok for about 2-3 years.

Fans getting louder suggest they are loaded with dust. You can buy a can of compressed air and blow the dust from the fans.

Usually I open up the computer and clear them - but in laptops that can involve a bit of work depending on the make.

However, clean your vents - https://www.howtogeek.com/194479/how-to-clean-the-dust-out-of-your-laptop/

This will definitely help with the overall performance of your laptop.

Download CCleaner - https://www.wintips.org/install-and-use-ccleaner-to-disinfect-windows-registry-cleaner/

This can definitely help in removing old files, and things that are clogging up your computer that are no longer in use.

If you want to go back to your factory settings, in Windows 10 - hold down Shift while rebooting usually works and this wipes  your computer of everything - so back up anything important to an external disk - like your FM save games :)

Slightly long post so il apologise in advance. I’ve played FM for years now on a laptop, I got my latest laptop about 18 months ago the spec is as follows;

Dell 7577, GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q Design, i7-7700HQ @ 2.8GHZ, 16GB RAM.

Im looking at keeping this as a backup and for at work in my office but using a Desktop at home, this is what I have been looking at, I want to play other games like COD & FIFA (yes I said it) would this be sufficient? What do you guys think?

If you can get that for that budget, go for it! it's a great price and will easily play fm with the database you are looking at....

I have the same spec on one of my laptops (though i did upgrade RAM to 16gb)

@Smurf

I realised after a bit of researchm that I may have to up budget, especially as I prefer 17in screen..

Have found these at £1,299  £1,499  £1,999 and £1,799. I could not see a lot of difference in specs so would go for cheapest. Which would be best choice or are there better alternatives?

That is cracking for the price. I was looking at cheapest with the best spec based on the OP information.

If the Budget was say £1,300 what would be best spec? Keep CPU 16MB RAM and cheaper graphics and SSD Drive?

Hi

I was considering the Octane with the i9-9900K (and the RTX2080) but have read that heat/cooling could be a problem. Presumably this would not be the case with FM20?

Depends on cooling situation - you can contact the guys at pc specialist and ask them.

From a bottleneck point of view techincially it's sound.

Hello, I'm thinking about buying FM2020

My laptop:

Win10

Intel Core i5 5200 2.2GHz

8gb ram

Intel HD Graphic 5500

AMD Radeon ™ R9 M375

I would like to start the game with the two highest leagues from Poland, England and Italy. The database depends on your tips. Is it possible on this laptop?

The i5-5200 is a U type processor - which is a 5th gen processor (5xxx) where the 5 denotes the gen.

We are on generation 10 at the moment - so it's clearly roughly 5 years old. And I would consider this becoming end of life (EOL).

In that regard - I wouldn't recommend it for FM.

Looking for a laptop for the budget of around £1k up or down a little don't mind.

What i'm looking for is something that will play on a large database, guaranteed no issue.

Won't overheat or get very hot (I get weary when a pc gets hot) and would like to use it in bed or whatever.

Touch screen would be an interesting bonus (not essential at all)

Ideally best hardware so I don't need to upgrade next yr. Laptop would be used only for FM, maybe single player games like Witcher or Europa Universalis and movies.

Could you list multiple laptops that fit the range please.

Hello fellow football managers!  Im looking for a new laptop and im basically one click away from buying this one https://www.webhallen.com/se/product/312364-Asus-G731GT-H7101T-17-3-FHD-IPS-120hz-i7-9750H-16GB-512GB-SSD-GTX-1650-Win-10 but since im not that good on computers i just wanted an opinion on how it will run for all leauges from England (vanarama and above) + 2 leagues from 5 nations + 1 league from 17 nations and players database with around 100 000k - 120 000k , other then that i can add that lap top will only be used for playing FM and watching sports, and i only play in commentary or 2d. It would be much appriciated to get an opinion from you guys, Cheers!

Looking for a semi-decent laptop in the $500-600 range.

Ideally would run 3D to a decent extent (mainly for replays anyway), and then be able to load the top few leagues from the top European countries and perhaps a DB of at least 60,000 players, if not a bit more.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi

I am considering these two laptops MSI Prestige 15 & Asus UX534ftc

Do anyone know which would run FM better? They will mainly be used for my studies (Some PLC programming and Autodesk fusion 360) and FM. Alternatives are welcomed but it is important for me that my next laptop is lightweigt and in the same price category as the two i have linked to.

Hi guys,

I would like help deciding between two laptops. I'm in Australia and I'm tossing up between MSI Prestige 15 and Aftershock Vapor Pro 15 (Eluktronics Mag 15 in USA, XMG Fusion 15 in Europe). They are both roughly the same price here with the specs below.

- MSI Prestige 15 has i7 10th gen 10710U, NVIDIA 1650 Max Q graphics, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD

- Aftershock Vapor 15 Pro has i7 9th gen 9750H, NVIDIA 1660TI graphics, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD

I know that the Vapor Pro 15 will perform better all round (as it is capable of playing AAA games with higher fps), but what I am more concerned with is whether or not I'll be able to notice much of a difference with playing FM. I would like to play journeyman saves so I'd like to load as many leagues and with as high a setting as possible.

Does anyone know how much of a time difference I would realistically be able to notice between the two?

I cannot believe nobody is helping out here - unbeliveable! I spent a long time keeping this great thread going - it's a reboot of an original thread from years ago.

Can someone please help these kind folk out? I can no longer dedicate time to help each individual person.

Can someone take over for a while?

Here are a few that might suit you. After about £800 or so, to get much better the price jumps up a fair bit.

Those would all do the job you're wanting them to do, and have plenty of storage space for more games if needed.

That should do the job fine, I'd imagine you'd probably be able to add more leagues/nations than that, but it all comes down to how quickly you want it to run. But yea, very nice choice.

Given they're using the new 10th gen processors, I honestly couldn't say how well they'd run FM. This is because FM relies on single core power, rather than work spread across multiple cores, and I have no experience in how well the newer generation processors scale up their processing power as they turbo.

Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing a refurbished late 2013 MacBook Pro with the following specs:

-8GB RAM

-Intel i5-4258U

-Intel Iris 5100

I was wondering if this device would be able to play FM20 at a good speed. Comments appreciated.

No, I wouldn't go for that, unless you can honestly not afford anything else. That processor is not only 7 years old and so hitting the end of useful life for most gaming uses, but it's a U-type too, which means it is designed around low power usage, rather than high performance. It's not a lot over the minimum requirements for processing power, and you might find you end up needing a new laptop sooner rather than later.

The Vapor would actually be better for FM anyway, as the new 10th gen processors have a low starting speed (below the requirements for FM, actually) but allow themselves to ramp up to high speeds. The issue there is that it relies on temperatures, etc, keeping such that they're able to ramp up to higher speeds. The 9th gen processor in the Vapor, on the other hand, has a pretty high starting speed, can go up to basically match the max for the 10th gen, and given FM utilises a single core a lot more than it does multiple cores, the 10th gen having more cores won't make much difference.

For the bottom/middle of your price range, I'd go for something like this:

And if you can afford to get to approx £800, you'd be able to get this:

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-g3-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-1-tb-hdd-256-gb-ssd-10196091-pdt.html

All of those will happily run FM, all have good processors, the £799 one would have more storage space and a better processor, but all of them are very capable.

will it run fm at a decent speed? Ideally I want to run the 5 main leagues as well as a few extra ones but that isn’t the end of the world

will it run fm at a decent speed? Ideally I want to run the 5 main leagues as well as a few extra ones but that isn’t the end of the world

Can you say what model processor it uses? Just saying "Ryzen 5 Processor" isn't enough information, there's a lot of those. It should run the leagues you want alright though.

Not the best processor for FM (FM prefers single-core power, which generally Intel does better than AMD), but it should run things without an issue, and not bad for the price.

Thanks for your help!

Hi. I bought a new laptop with specs AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB RAM και AMD Radeon Vega 8. I checked before I buy the laptop if I can run the game and while I saw I could run it very easily, I am facing a lot of problems as the game has very big loading game and the match engine runs with one star in low settings. Could someone let me know if I bought the wrong laptop if there is something else goin on?

It'll run it (although the base speed of the processor is minimum spec for the game, it's only the turbo speed, if the processor can manage to reach it, that'll run it well), but it isn't the best processor for the game, I'm afraid. It also depends on how many nations/leagues/players you're trying to run the game with. With that processor, I'd try to keep it down to half a dozen nations and their leagues to keep it from slowing down too much.

What was your budget for the laptop?

I run it with six nations. My main problem is the match engine. I was expecting that with the Vega 8 I would be able to enjoy the matches in very good detail. My budget was £500.

I'd turn the graphics down if that's the main issue - Vega 8 is basically the AMD version of the Intel graphics processing chips, it's not a proper dedicated graphics card.

Hello all,

Great thread thank you. I’m considering getting a Surface Pro- mainly because I’m travelling/flying a lot so something ‘tablet-like’ might suit. Has anyone got any experience of FM on a Surface Pro?

Thanks in advance!

Which Surface Pro? There are a number of models, and the hardware of the one you pick will make a difference.

Thanks @JordanMillward_1

Looking at the options, it’d be the Tablet version rather than the laptop. Surface Pro 7, and the choice is whether to go for the i5 or if it’s worth the extra $ for the i7 16GB 256GB model.

I honestly can't say, because the Surface Pro 7 uses the new 10th generation Intel processors, which have a low base processing speed (below the minimum requirements for FM), with a half-decent processor speed that is the maximum they can reach, but seem to rely more on multi-core processing. This isn't good for FM, because FM relies on single-core processing much more.
