Star ratings in the game are flawed. 

The processor might not be able to do it - it's only 1.8ghz at base - and FM requires 2.2ghz - I'd proceed with caution.

Both are entry level graphics cards - so play 3d on low detail level - or slightly higher if you're happy with it.

Not quite a "what new computer" should I get question, but more of a "when should I get one" - my laptop is 3.5 years old, has reasonably heavy use, for streaming to my TV, FM and some not intensive graphics games, general internet use, office etc.

Nvidia GTX 950M

It's starting to drag, and the fans are getting louder occasionally - should I format and start again, and/or start looking for a new laptop?

You're computer should still be ok for about 2-3 years.

Fans getting louder suggest they are loaded with dust. You can buy a can of compressed air and blow the dust from the fans.

Usually I open up the computer and clear them - but in laptops that can involve a bit of work depending on the make.

This will definitely help with the overall performance of your laptop.

Download CCleaner - https://www.wintips.org/install-and-use-ccleaner-to-disinfect-windows-registry-cleaner/

This can definitely help in removing old files, and things that are clogging up your computer that are no longer in use. 

 

If you want to go back to your factory settings, in Windows 10 - hold down Shift while rebooting usually works and this wipes  your computer of everything - so back up anything important to an external disk - like your FM save games

Slightly long post so il apologise in advance. I’ve played FM for years now on a laptop, I got my latest laptop about 18 months ago the spec is as follows;
 

Dell 7577, GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q Design, i7-7700HQ @ 2.8GHZ, 16GB RAM.

Im looking at keeping this as a backup and for at work in my office but using a Desktop at home, this is what I have been looking at, I want to play other games like COD & FIFA (yes I said it) would this be sufficient? What do you guys think?

I am looking for a laptop just to play FM20, and I intend to play with about 10-15 leagues based on big / huge DB.

Right now I have this option for € 699 euros (about £590), good for the price or can I buy better ?

The i5-5200 is a U type processor - which is a 5th gen processor (5xxx) where the 5 denotes the gen.

We are on generation 10 at the moment - so it's clearly roughly 5 years old. And I would consider this becoming end of life (EOL). 

In that regard - I wouldn't recommend it for FM.

Ideally would run 3D to a decent extent (mainly for replays anyway), and then be able to load the top few leagues from the top European countries and perhaps a DB of at least 60,000 players, if not a bit more.

I would like help deciding between two laptops. I'm in Australia and I'm tossing up between MSI Prestige 15 and Aftershock Vapor Pro 15 (Eluktronics Mag 15 in USA, XMG Fusion 15 in Europe). They are both roughly the same price here with the specs below.

- MSI Prestige 15 has i7 10th gen 10710U, NVIDIA 1650 Max Q graphics, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD

- Aftershock Vapor 15 Pro has i7 9th gen 9750H, NVIDIA 1660TI graphics, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD

I know that the Vapor Pro 15 will perform better all round (as it is capable of playing AAA games with higher fps), but what I am more concerned with is whether or not I'll be able to notice much of a difference with playing FM. I would like to play journeyman saves so I'd like to load as many leagues and with as high a setting as possible.

Does anyone know how much of a time difference I would realistically be able to notice between the two?

That should do the job fine, I'd imagine you'd probably be able to add more leagues/nations than that, but it all comes down to how quickly you want it to run. But yea, very nice choice.

Given they're using the new 10th gen processors, I honestly couldn't say how well they'd run FM. This is because FM relies on single core power, rather than work spread across multiple cores, and I have no experience in how well the newer generation processors scale up their processing power as they turbo.

No, I wouldn't go for that, unless you can honestly not afford anything else. That processor is not only 7 years old and so hitting the end of useful life for most gaming uses, but it's a U-type too, which means it is designed around low power usage, rather than high performance. It's not a lot over the minimum requirements for processing power, and you might find you end up needing a new laptop sooner rather than later.

The issue there is that it relies on temperatures, etc, keeping such that they're able to ramp up to higher speeds. The 9th gen processor in the Vapor, on the other hand, has a pretty high starting speed, can go up to basically match the max for the 10th gen, and given FM utilises a single core a lot more than it does multiple cores, the 10th gen having more cores won't make much difference.

Hi I’ve just brought this pc:

Lenovo Legion T530 90JY002YUK Desktop PC, AMD Ryzen 5 Processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD, Radeon RX 570, Black

will it run fm at a decent speed? Ideally I want to run the 5 main leagues as well as a few extra ones but that isn’t the end of the world

Can you say what model processor it uses? Just saying "Ryzen 5 Processor" isn't enough information, there's a lot of those. It should run the leagues you want alright though.

Not the best processor for FM (FM prefers single-core power, which generally Intel does better than AMD), but it should run things without an issue, and not bad for the price.

Hi. I bought a new laptop with specs AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB RAM και AMD Radeon Vega 8. I checked before I buy the laptop if I can run the game and while I saw I could run it very easily, I am facing a lot of problems as the game has very big loading game and the match engine runs with one star in low settings. Could someone let me know if I bought the wrong laptop if there is something else goin on?

It'll run it (although the base speed of the processor is minimum spec for the game, it's only the turbo speed, if the processor can manage to reach it, that'll run it well), but it isn't the best processor for the game, I'm afraid. It also depends on how many nations/leagues/players you're trying to run the game with. With that processor, I'd try to keep it down to half a dozen nations and their leagues to keep it from slowing down too much.

What was your budget for the laptop?

I run it with six nations. My main problem is the match engine. I was expecting that with the Vega 8 I would be able to enjoy the matches in very good detail. My budget was £500.

I'd turn the graphics down if that's the main issue - Vega 8 is basically the AMD version of the Intel graphics processing chips, it's not a proper dedicated graphics card.

Which Surface Pro? There are a number of models, and the hardware of the one you pick will make a difference.

Looking at the options, it’d be the Tablet version rather than the laptop. Surface Pro 7, and the choice is whether to go for the i5 or if it’s worth the extra $ for the i7 16GB 256GB model.

I honestly can't say, because the Surface Pro 7 uses the new 10th generation Intel processors, which have a low base processing speed (below the minimum requirements for FM), with a half-decent processor speed that is the maximum they can reach, but seem to rely more on multi-core processing. This isn't good for FM, because FM relies on single-core processing much more.
