The idea of this thread is to get members of the FMCU community involved in a fun and competitive thread, that will see the English users take on the rest of the World users in multiple challenges. The basic concept is that two clubs complete the small club to big club challenges, the twist being that each manager in Dr Who/James Bond-like style transforms each summer into a new member of the forums. One club will be managed only by English users, the other will be managed by the rest of the World users, including Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish users. Hopefully there is a good amount of interest, the first challenge will be the traditional dafuge's challenge which sees you manage a club from the BSS/BSN all the way to the glory of the Premier League and Champions League success. Once this has been completed on separate save games, if there is enough interest we could also have a best of 5 series or something with - big Euro nation, Gundo's, rancer's Asian challenge, as well as the South American one becoming involved. That's hypothetical though we'll see how the dafuge challenge version goes first.

The rules for the challenge generally work as followed (shamefully stolen from bermybhoy's FM09 thread) -

It works like this

• Two distinct games will be started, one starting out in the Blue Square North (Monkeys), one in the Blue Square South (Softies).
  
• Fictional players will be used so no advantage can be gained.
  
• Various forum members who have signed up will take control of the teams, one at a time.
  
• Each participant has a week to 10 days at most to complete one season only (note this may be less during holidays, when there’s high demand). If they haven't, they will upload it for the next guy to continue from that point.
  
• When the season is effectively over (the end of May works well), the person in the hot seat must save and upload it for the next player.
  
• If Wallace or Roberts are sacked whoever is responsible has to own up to their inadequacy, and the next person takes over at that point, until the end of the NEXT season.
  
• Players must read and stick to the rules set out below.
  

Rules for playing the game

When it’s your turn:

• Each player will control the club for a maximum of one season at a time.
  
• Your season should be completed within 7 - 10 days, but everyone is encouraged to be as quick as they can. This thread thrives on momentum.
  
• You must use compressed saving. This reduces the size of the file, hence upload/download times and ensures no-one can use nasty external scouting utilities.
  
• Please use auto save. It’s disappointing when people lose their game and have to replay or give up.
  
• You must be using the latest available patch.
  
• Everyone has other commitments. If you feel you can’t complete the season, please let us know so we can work out how best to progress.
  

When you’re finished:

• The game must be saved after the final game of the season, and no later than May 31.
  
• The save game file must then be uploaded for the next player (using filefront, megaupload or similar)
  

Signing players:

• Each manager has a free reign over signings. However, be sensitive in regards to players that other participants have said they like, or who've been at the club a while...be courteous and engage in some conversation before making anything that looks like a big decision.
  
• To sign a player, you must be able to scout them, this doesn't mean you have to do so; just he must be accessible to your scouts. If you have a foreign player on a free transfer who is willing to come on trial, you do not need to be able to scout them.
  

What’s considered cheating:

• No external utilities such as FMScout can be used. This is for fun and is meant to be tough, remember that you’re messing it up for others if you use these.
  
• Please do not exploit flaws in the game by offering out players for free if the chairman accepts a bid that you're not happy with...chairman interference is part of the game and needs to be accepted. You may of course, try to offer them to clubs for more cash if you think that's appropriate.
  
• Downloaded tactics may not be used. Each player should create their own tactics for their team. It's not meant to be easy and does of course give you greater bragging rights when you do well.
  
• Parent clubs: please do not use parent clubs. It’s been found they can provide some sides with a large advantage. You may have as many feeder clubs as you like.
  

General stuff:

• If you have signed a young player or brought them through the youth academy, you may use the nickname function to give them a sensible name of your choosing. You can then ask for progress reports on such players in future seasons.
  
• Subsequent managers can sell these players as they see fit, but again as a courtesy please discuss first.
  
• Players may ask advice on new signings, tactics etc from their adoring (or spiteful, depending how they get on) public.
  

Rules of the thread

This is an interactive thread with a large number of forum members who take a keen interest in the ups and downs of both teams. Therefore if you're taking part:

• Report on you progress as often, and in as much detail, as you can.
  
• Screenshots of absolutely anything are encouraged. Anything you think is relevant...take a look at some of the contributions from experienced Wallace or Roberts managers for ideas...top players, best signings, league tables, results etc are all good.
  
• At the start of the season, try to provide at least the following: the board's expectations; your OWN expectations; your predictions for top scorer; club players of the year and a young player to watch.
  
• At the end of the season, provide a summary of the season, with screenshots. Also provide some feedback to the next person, with a discussion of which players to keep, sell, and potential signings.

How to Post a Screenshot

• While in FM, press the 'Prt Sc' button (usually next to F12 on your keyboard).
  
• Open an image editing program such as Paint and paste the image
  
• Save the file as a JPEG
  
• Upload the image to an image hosting website such as Photobucket or Imageshack
  
• Post the direct Url to the image here.

Brilliant, I was on a forum where we did something similar, editing Exeter into our club with each user as various members of staff (like coaches and scouts, I was head scout) and taking turns managing doing a month each. I'll always be up for something like this. I declare English. Can I please be early in case I have those runtime errors which are far more likely the further into the save it's my turn. Just doing one nation makes it far less likely but don't want to take chances.

'English Lions' and 'World Warriors' would already be better as both names are similar to 'Southern Softies' and 'Northern Monkeys' in showing where the users stem from and being formed by two words. There are probably lots of better options though, including not changing the names of the teams in the saves while having the nicknames in the thread like in the original sign-up.

Isn't it meant to be one team from each league? I also think that the size of the stadium should matter in the choice of teams, two similarly-sized (or preferably identical) stadia would be best.

I've had a look in-game and these two teams both have almost the size of stadium (both around 6000, about 100 difference) and 50 points difference in their reputations:

Yeah general theme is to have one from BSS and one from BSN, but that was in the North/South days so made more sense. The idea to go lower than BSS/BSN is a decent one, but think it could be a bit over-kill for people having to download a save game and an additional database if they don't have the lower stuff already. What's Colwyn Bay's stadium like? Not sure if there are any teams similar to them in BSN but they'd certainly be an interesting one for the ROW guys since they're a Welsh team.

edit: Workington/Colwyn Bay could work if their stadium size is similar and we're cool with having two teams from one division.

Colwyn Bay's stadium holds 2500 (with 250 seats) and Staines have exactly the same reputation, size of stadium and number of seats.

Only in terms of youth intakes I think, because the Welsh team would probably use the Welsh youth rating which is lower. Colwyn Bay starts off with higher junior coaching anyway, so that should offset the difference at least initially. Notably, this is also the only discernible difference between the two clubs in terms of facilities.

Colwyn Bay aren't Welsh in the game, if you look at the club information screen they'll be classed as an English club based in a Welsh city, which means they'll produce Welsh newgens using England's youth rating.

Also, Blyth seem to have a really high budget, which could give them an undue advantage.

Colwyn Bay/Staines seems most popular choice at the moment, will wait for few other people to get their input in first though. Just out of interest who would be willing to do the first leg for their respective sides? I know delta said he wanted to go early on, but if we get a list of people willing to go first we can always random number generator it or something to make it fair for everyone.

It could just be a case of waiting for the thread to get more popular before other people notice it, there's no deadline for getting involved and the list of users waiting to go next is generally quite flexible so anyone can join at any time.

Aside from the first 2 players in each side (based on preference) I have randomized the orders and it looks like this. As I've said before the lists are very flexible so it is likely that wont be the exact running order. Anyone not already on board is welcome to join at any time, you'll be put on the bottom of the list but you could end up getting your go quicker than you'd expect.

@Romanista1994 & Nottingham Forest - You guys need to do the following:

• Start a new game (it needs to be on the most recent patch)
  
• England down to BSS/BSN (no additional nations/leagues loaded)
  
• Large database
  
• Fictional players ticked
  
• Once you've done that make sure your preferences include:
  
• Compressing save game
  
• Auto save - 3 file rolling, at least fortnightly in-game
  
• Then -
  
• Create a manager - One will obviously be called 'Andrew Smylie' and the other will be called 'Danny Roberts'.
  
• Nationality - Smylie = Northern Irish, Roberts = English
  
• Reputation - Sunday League
  
• Smylie = Colwyn Bay, Roberts = Staines
  

Then you get to kick-off each of our campaigns! From the time you start the save you have between 7 and 10 days to complete your season, make sure you save and upload the save game on the 24th June (you may have to create a filefront, megaupload etc account - whichever one is free/not shut down).

In terms of actual updates the minimum is a general summary of the squad/finances/general plans for the season at the start, results of matches at least every month (minimum being the result with the goal-scorer/s and motm) and a bi-monthly league table screenshot, then a nice end of season summary including some screen-shots of the players etc. Obviously the more in-depth your updates are the better but there's no pressure to have paragraphs for every match with video clips of goals and screen-shots of stats for every match etc.

Just one more thing - in terms of tactic, whatever tactic you end up using is completely up to you (as long as it isn't a downloaded one) but can you make sure you save your tactics to the tactic section of the save game. It's always nice for the users who go after you to have something to fall back on if they can't get anything working themselves.
