It took me a couple of hours to get through this thread from start to finish, but it's a slow day here at work, and I can't get motivated to do anything else on a Friday afternoon. I do also remember reading your old Billericay threads, Nobby. I will have to go back and re-read the old ones for a bit of nostalgia. It actually inspired me at one time to try a Billericay game of my own. Unfortunately, I never had your success in my version though.

Anyway, reading all of this makes me want to re-install some FM on the laptop and give it another go. I'm still on FM10 as I never had the patience or the money for the newer games. But like you, I have not the time for gaming anymore due to real-life commitments.

I inspire people. That's either mega cool or you're screwed in the head. :D

I would have started a FM13 save (albeit played at the same pace as this) if it weren't for my love of this save.

What speed settings do you use in the matches? Would love to get so far into the game but takes me too long.

Colorado, the thread was started the best part of 2 and a half years ago. I think with patience you would be able to get as far.

2037/38 - Newcastle Town (Championship)

It's where we are so close we can touch it

Board: Safe mid table

Media: 15th

Bookies: 40-1

Season tickets: 2022 (up 333) £847,697

Club value: £5,000,000

New main kit sponsor: 3 years, £182,000 (up £18,000)

New contract: 5 years (4 years extension), £2900 per week (up £500)

A decent start sees us challenge from the off.

Approaching four games in a week over the holiday period, we are right in the mix at the top of the table. We take just two points from these four games.

Our form stutters a little but we remain in the playoffs while enjoying a cup run.

An outstanding 4-1 win over Fulham and we hit our stride approaching the run in.

We miss out on automatic promotion on the final day and face the playof. Here we lose 2-1 at Huddersfield before losing 3-2 at home, denying us off a chance to play West Ham for a spot in the Premier League.

Cups and News

A decent run in both cups ended up with putting up a sterling effort against an established Premier League club in the FA Cup, but a somewhat disappointing defeat to a fellow Championship side in the League Cup.

NewcastleTownNewcastleTown_Fixtures-2_zpsb8f482ac.png

NewcastleTownNewcastleTown_Fixtures_zps2304bff0.png

Meanwhile, the club is making progress off the pitch too, as the youth recruitment network finally gets upgraded to fairly basic, while the stadium will have some of the terracing converted to 2500 seats. Should we stay up next season, then the ground must become all seated or the terracing will be closed.

I'm certainly hopeful. I've signed a couple more promising young players, but I'm also losing two - Bill Harris is going to Berwick Rangers (relegated from the SPL last season, so I bet he regrets it now) on a Bosman, and the board have sold Jordan Bartley, a teenager capable of playing on both flanks who pushed into the first team last season. The board sold him despite training and youth facilities being worked on and a seven figure bank balance, so I'm a bit narked about that.

Back in Newcastle-under-Lyme, club chairman Adam Rose leaves. A consortium led by Jordan Cleverly failed in their takeover bid, leading to a club director taking over. No new investment in made in the club, but there will be continuity, and hopefully no more chairman sale of players!

I celebrate 1500 games in management. Quite how the reporter thinks we will play ourselves in the next match I don't know. We actually lost 1-0 at Brighton.

My first season with former captain Paul Gallagher as my Assistant was the season we were relegated from League One. I gave him a second chance with a second one year contract and never looked back since.

Cannot believe this game is still running. Very impressive what you have done so far, taking a minnow to the cusp of the Premier League. Not quite the comparison with another chap that signed off after 1,500 matches and winning a couple of things, but meh... :D

I'm going to change format slightly, and update my cup progress as the season goes on...

In the League Cup, we comfortably beat two lower league opponents before defeating a top flight team convincingly. Within sight of the Quarter Finals, we suffer a disappointing defeat to a fellow Championship club.

Finally caught up after 3 days (off and on; I'm not that slow at reading!)

Impressive stuff. Good call on cashing on those Brooks clauses too. He was a proper once in a lifetime find.
