Nobby_McDonald
Right, I don't usually do half season updates, but here is one... My chairman goes over my head again by accepting an offer for Christopher Etherington. This time though I gazump him by accepting a better offer and he duly moves to Tottenham Hotspur for a potential £4,200,000 which smashes our record sale. I replace him by spending £1,000,000 on John Ondo. Ondo is turning out to be a better player. We make a great start, dropping only two points from our first seven matches before losing at home to Ipswich who have also started well. At the halfway stage we have continued our strong start and have built an eight points lead and even more pleasing, we are top scorers and have the best defence. Then my chairman is at it again as he accepts a bid from Newcastle United for Mike Ashton for a massive £7,250,000 Ashton has been a star, averaging over 7.5 with a significant number of goals and assists. Playing just behind the front two, he has been instrumental in our success. I am seething. Only a week before, the chairman offered the chance to raise the season expectations in return for an increase in the wage budget of £20,000 per week. I went for it, increasing the expectation to win promotion and it now means we are £15,000 under the new wage budget. The chairman is also willing to listen to offers for the club. I am so incensed it crosses my mind that if we don't win promotion to the Premier League this season I shall retire. Then I check Ashton's contract and see he has a minimum release clause for higher division clubs of £6,750,000. So my mood calms, this time the chairman has done a good deal. It is worth noting though as of the time of writing this, Ashton has not yet signed for Newcastle United a few days on, though he still has an offer on the table. Our future may well rest on whatever he decides.

Nobby_McDonald
The bid the chairman accepted was £500,000 above Ashton's minimum fee release clause, so even if he hadn't, I would have been forced to accept it anyway. Ashton has signed. I've lost the key cog in our superb season. On the plus side, I've got more cash than ever before so I'm looking to replace and strengthen elsewhere. Nobby_McDonald
Things are never easy at Newcastle Town Stadium. The Chairman is now in talks with a fans trust about selling the club, placing me under a transfer embargo. If this drags on and if I win promotion, I may well head into my Premier League season unable to sign anybody. This game is sometimes more stressful than getting married and moving house. Nobby_McDonald
I now have a major issue. I have finished the season (update to come in due course). In mid May, I accepted the job to become the Manager of the England Under 21s. I (probably foolishly) added all players aged under 21 to the national pool, which was around 11,000 players. Since doing that, response times have become incredibly slow, up to two minutes, for certain aspects of the game. These include accessing my squad (sometimes), accessing scout reports (sometimes), accessing coach reports (all the time), going to the news inbox (occasionally) and every time I press continue (either by pressing the button or by pressing space bar). This is effectively rendering the game unplayable. Other sections of the game appear to be working normally. I went back to the last auto save I had, which was saved the day before I accept the job. I declined to take up the post this time, but still have exactly the same issues. I have defragmented the hard drive, run a full virus scan (using AVG), cleared all registry errors, junk files and broken shortcuts on the hard drive. This has sped up my computer a fair bit, but it has made no difference to my FM game. Have I screwed up my game? Has anybody else had this issue before and did they overcome it? Can it be fixed/overcome? I will be genuinely gutted if I lost my save like this.
withnail316
Have you cleared your cache folder? That might help...
dropper
If you've gone back to a previous save then it shouldn't be too difficult to fix, if a little tedious. I don't know how to clear the cache folder but that's a good piece of advice. If you still don't have any luck I'd copy the save file to another location (the desktop/dropbox folder) and then uninstall the game itself, restart the PC, then reinstall the game and move the save files back to the correct location. (I'm not sure but uninstalling and reinstalling may preserve your save files where they should be and you might not need to move the files back.) This should hopefully resolve any lingering issues, although it may take awhile depending on how quick your PC/internet connection (if required) is. P.s. Been following this for a while now; keep up the good work! Don't let the Chairman get you down! Amazing achievement already just to get to where you are now. Nobby_McDonald
It hasn't worked. I'll post a truncated version of my final season, since I'm effectively stuck in mid May the playoffs haven't finished and I can't access my squad screen without waiting around two minutes for it to come up.
dropper
Hmm. You could try doing another uninstall of the game using something like Revo Uninstaller. I believe that's more effective at completely removing programs than the Windows standard which typically leaves data behind. If you do, make sure you copy the save files elsewhere as the originals hopefully won't survive this process. This way if you then restart and reinstall, and then move the save file back, it should be clear that it is definitely a corruption with the saved game file itself. The only other thing I can think of is to check your preferences to see if something changed in there that's causing this massive lag. Otherwise just see how far you can go back (save file wise). One save shouldn't affect a previous one so I can't see how the previous save has been corrupted. I imagine there's a file (or two) in there that Windows doesn't uninstall which needs to be repaired. I sign John Ondo as a replacement who turns out to be a better player. We start great, dropping only two points in our first seven games before losing to Ipswich Town who have also started well. At halfway, we have an eight points lead and we are looking dangerous opponents in every match. Ashton joins Newcastle United in January for £7,250,000. I sign Ben Green from Birmingham City for £1,800,000 as his replacement. He isn't as good. Initially our lead increases but form drops and so does our lead. Our run in form is terrible, but a first win in five in the penultimate game, defeating Plymouth Argyle 2-0 seals promotion. Five days later, a supporters' trust led by local businessman Danny Johnson complete a takeover, and three days after we seal the title. 23. Nottingham Forest 41 points 24. Blackpool 34 points Top rating: Mike Ashton 7.44 Top goalscorer: Gary Smith 16 in 44 games Top league goalscorer: Mike Ashton 13 in 26 games, Gary Smith 13 in 38, Jack Smith 13 in 43 PLAYER OF THE YEAR Will appear here when announced YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Nobby_McDonald
The only other save is from 13 May, about a week before my current game day and also suffering from the same problems.
