Not many expect Germany to win, but IMO they have a good chance. It's something like the last chance to win a major title for Ballack's generation and they have been very close in the last couple of tournaments. Also Robert Enke's suicide can make that the team will have great team spirit and really fight for the cause

Damn Orz, I had a whole thread lined up actually for this, similar to the dutch one from Mic.

I called it Deutschland Deutschland - What a load of Lahm Ballack

I started it last night but the code kept buggering up for some reason! Ah well, never mind!

7 times finalist, we´ll be written off again, probably somehow scrape the group stage, then get to the semi´s or something despite not doing that well, id be surpised if we´d won it, although we´ve not done too bad the last 2 WC´s!

Miroslav Klose to be the top scorer? I have tipped him to be but he hardly plays for Bayern now so I'm not so sure, unless I am mistaken it seems like Olic and Gomez are ahead of him.

And don't forget Kuranyi. C'mon Jogi, it would be criminal not to take him.

Is Kurayni back on good times with the National team?

He has apologised and would like a call up. Löw wasn't having any of it (having said earlier 'he won't play as long as I'm national coach') but last week he indicated that he may re-evaluate the situation. Even Beckenbauer (part of the mighty Bayern clan who usually will say anything to bring Schalke down) has said that Löw can't omit the currently best German striker.

I can see KK getting a call up.

Post it, then Orzelek could add anything he doesn't already have to the OP? :)

Not to be pedantic, but should the thread title not be:

20 Jahren sind genug?

Not sure, but ill get a useful German lesson here which will be of use to my meagre appreciation of the language im sure

Looking forward to seeing Lahm in this competition, but thats about it. With the obvious reliance on Klose in the last two world cups, his aging profile would be a need for worry.

Think Muller has a chance, not sure about Kroos.

Oh and Kuranyi will not be in squad, said by Low him self, well not a big surprise.

Ridiculous. He takes a hopelessly out of form Podolski who has hit his captain in the face during a match, but refuses to take a red hot Kuranyi because of one primadonna, yet perfectly understandable outburst after being yet again not picked so yet another hopelessly out of form striker can play.

Talk about being unable to get over onesself. Bad one Jogi, very bad.

I have faith in Löw's decision not to bring Kurayni. To be fair; Kevin Kurayni is a painfully average player and I don't think I've ever seen him perform in a big game for Germany. He was absolutely shocking in Euro 2008.

Yeah and Gomez has been playing blinders for the dfb. Are you Löw in disguise? :D

Seriously, Podolski and Gomez have been much worse than Kuranyi this season.

Seriously, Podolski and Gomez have been much worse than Kuranyi this season.

Podolski has never been able to show the form he can produce at international level when he plays at club level though. The same could be said for Michael Ballack, I suppose. Besides, he's hardly working with the world's best players at Köln, is he? Podolski has scored 5 goals from 7 international appearances this season. If I was Löw, I'd bring him to the world cup without a second thought. Kurayni on the other hand; well, he plays well at club level, but for Germany? He's absolutely stinking. Thank hell he's decided not to include that donkey.

Rene Adler will/have to undergo surgery for a broken rib and will not recover in time for the WC.

If the worst comes to the worst and Rene can't play; I think Manuel Neuer can do a brilliant job for us anyway. He'd probably be my #1 if I was the national coach.

Wiese has been a bit shakey at times anyway. The way things are now, I'd take Butt...

As regards Kuranyi, he's had no chance to prove his value to the national team, not really fair to judge him on his non-appearances... And as said, Gomez doesn't exactly have a great record for Germany. Klose? Pfffff. Shouldn't even be considered at the moment, or maybe as a sub.

Klose's record for Germany is pretty good and he performs bloody well at the WC's

Can't really remember all his games, but imo he is rated as a good WC player because of his 5 goals in 2002 group stages of which 3 came against SA, but as said, I can be wrong here.

Tbf, if I were Germany boss i'd play Klose and Podolski up front and have Kiessling and Kuranyi on the bench

I quite liked how Löw played Podolski on the left wing during the Euro's. I'd quite like him to play him there again for the WC. Ideally; I hope they shape up like;

Neuer

Friedrich - Mertesacker - Westermann - Lahm

Özil - Ballack - Schweinsteiger - Podolski

Klose - Kießling

Its a shame Adler is not going, Neuer is good but i think Adler definately edges him, think Neuer shows his young age and inexperience now and again and I think that will happen at teh WC too, but we´ll see!

Rolfes is also not going to the World Cup, is injured. Frings should go, i dont care about his outburst, in that position he is at the moment the best player form wise.

I wouldnt take Kuranyi either, he aint as good as people make out, I know the likes of Podolski havnt performed but they always seem to turn up in the big international games, and for such a young player, Poldi has an excellent record at this level, i think something like 70 caps and 35 goals, thats a goal every other game.

I would hope Kroos goes but he wont get in unfortunately cos of Schweini and Ballack, I think we will manage to get out the group but cant see us going further than the Quarters........but then again, we wrote ourselves off before and got to the final!

What happened to all the good German keepers ? Only like Neuer in that list.

In fact am I right in thinking Neuer would have been 3rd choice a few months ago? Behind Adler and Enke.

Ozil >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kroos

Tbh this German squad really doesn't worry too much on the whole. Definitely think we can give them a game and there not nailed on to win the group.

Didn't expect Rolfes to make the WC, so no surprise there

But it really sucks that Adler got injured :thdn:

And based on this season's performances, I'd say that the should start with Butt as #1! ;)

This, Adler missing the WC due to surgery.

Frings is way past it though, he's a less mobile/technical version of Ballack

The question you have to ask yourself is, why has he left Hummels out, probably been the best german defender in that position this season in the league!

I mean im happy that the likes of Kroos have had a call up, but he aint gonna get a game, unless we´re losing and its a lost cause and he takes Schweini or Ballack off.

Although i think with Adler gone, Butt would do a great job, not that Neuer is bad, but experience counts for a lot and Neuer has shown his inexperience on more than one occassion in the league this season.

Where as, i would prefer Kroos in the center and Schweini on the wing, where he used to play, then it would work.

Will Kehl be going to the world cup?

He's injured, as usual

Enke committed suicide. No, I'm not trying to set you up, he really did. Adler is injured and out of the tournament. Neuer would have been 2nd or 3rd in the pecking order, that wasn't ever really specified by the coach.

Wiese was the fourth goalie in contention to go to the World Cup, but he probably wouldn't have made it without the incidents regarding Enke and Adler. Butt is a reliable goalie who performed really well recently, being the German Champion, German Cup and Champions League finalist as a starter for Bayern. He also won't complain being third choice and on the bench during the whole tournament.

Imho Neuer is the best choice anyway, as he is good on the line, has better control of the area than all other options and is brilliant at opening play by throws in particular. He also has the ability to push himself over his limits, much like Kahn did in the past. It would have been better to achieve the No.1 position in the German goal by less dire circumstances though.

I mean im happy that the likes of Kroos have had a call up, but he aint gonna get a game, unless we´re losing and its a lost cause and he takes Schweini or Ballack off.[...]

Where as, i would prefer Kroos in the center and Schweini on the wing, where he used to play, then it would work.

At Leverkusen Kroos played mostly on the wing and he's had a storming season. Schweinsteiger on the other hand has improved by leaps and bounds after van Gaal moved him to the centre. Having them swap their positions at the World Cup would not be a smart move.

Generally speaking I also see Kroos at his best in a central or central attacking midfield position, but that shouldn't be an issue for this particular tournament just yet.

I know what happened to Eneke. Was just saying how Germany's goalkeeping options don't look half as good without Enke and Adler. As for Butt he has looked very suspect everytime I have seen him.
