£166m signing on fee - no, really!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm a believer in having more home grown players than foreigners. I thought he'd be a good back up players to have around. He usually does well for me when I buy him for other saves I run. This is my first time playing as Arsenal (Liverpool fan by the way) and although I see Arsenal most weeks on TV I was very surprised at how many non-English players they had. They're almost as bad as Liverpool lol

I don't understand why signing on fees were ever introduced (in real life) I mean who sat down one day to negotiate a contract and thought "hmm a few grand a week is a pittance, what would really get my attention is if you pay me a few million up front before I've even kicked a ball" it boggles my mind, same with agent fees

Its just a golden hand shake really, like a lot of companies will offer you for taking a job with them as a sweetner. Pretty common in football nowadays for most players get around 10% of their transfer fee as a signing on fee (although I think Ronaldo got around £10m up front when he went to Real so it depends).

in that case, wouldn't it still be 10% of his transfer fee? :D
