[Skin Release] Larger Numbered Tactic Sliders (Updated V 1.1)

***Updated version 1.1 - Now includes descriptions as well as numbers and also 0-21 for team mentality instead of 1-22.***

Now I know skins normally go in the Graphics and Skinning hideout but this one is a little different. It's more of a mod than a skin really but it gives you a cleaner tactics screen with larger, numbered sliders:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/radestock/playerinstructions.jpg - Player Instructions

Compared to the default:

Now Available for download version 1.1:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kjoqtljdnoy - Normal fmf Version

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lwnwmmjywrd - Right sided fmf Version

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zoyklqywj4q - Zip Version

(downloads updated 18/7/09 - damn you filefront!)

3 versions. If you simply want to play with the default skin but with this added mod then install one of the fmf versions (normal or right depending on what you want - you don't need both versions for the right version to work either). Simply add the fmf file to your skins folder. Now open FM and go to the preferences screen before unticking 'use skin cache', ticking 'reload skin on confirm' then clicking confirm. Now choose RS-X: Numbered Tactic Sliders from the drop down list of skins.

If you want to add this to a different skin download the zip version. Extract the zip then simply drag and drop the 'player instructions.xml' and 'team instructions.xml files into the 'panels' folder of the skin you like to use.

Cheers

That's for team instructions but I've done the same for player instructions. As you move a slider the text to the right shows the 'notch' number the slider is at as well as the range in brackets afterwards. I'd like to know if people that create/display tactics would find this useful. I've never really done a lot of tactical fiddling myself so I thought I'd get opinions. If people aren't going to really make use of it or think it wouldn't make that much of a difference I'll shelve this but if people want it it shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours to get sorted.

Also I have numbered the thing right I presume, 1 is the least at 20 is the most (other than the mentality which is 1 to 22 when I counted)?

Cheers

Anything that might make the game more understandable is ony for the better, Radestock. I like the idea. It brings back the discussion about whether or not the sliders are determined by numbers or positions. On the one hand, like myself, I believe that the numbers of clicks matter. On the other, there is the arguement that the numbers mean nothing and we should look to them as only the three positions of defence, normal and attack for general purposes. my arguement is this. If the number of clicks don't mean anything, then why don't we just have the three setting of defence, normal and attack? Kind regards.

the zip version is a modification jdownie, just put the files in the panels folder of your skin, and as someone working on a set of tactics is glad radestock put it here, although i should go to skinning more often lol

It is? Thanks.

I probably would've noticed had I read the entire first post. >.<

Very nice mod, indeed. I don't know if I can ask this, but would it be possible to make a mod that makes the opposition instructions show as 4 clickable buttons side by side instead of having a single bar? Would save quite some time setting up the OI's. Am I making sense?

I love this and it's absolutely needed, but I would also love to see the original names to the right of everything still, that way when my assistant tells me to use more direct passes, etc, I don't have to consult a chart as to what number gets me to that point. :)

I would still love to see the description at the side, plus the numbers!

For example, Mentality at 14 could mean the first notch of attacking or the last notch of normal.

Is that possible Radestock?

Something like this?

(sorry Radestock for nicking and changing your xml:o)

Also I would love it if I can get the training section have this, because I feel that's an area this can be very useful in. Thanks!

I guess this might be a little more tricky as it is possible to adjust the 'workload' slider slightly without moving the 'individual training' sliders.

I do agree that it would be good to see this for training as well however.

If someone gives me the ranges, Id be happy to update the xml files - I cant remember them :o

I can't remember them off hand either. Don't want to guess as it needs to be done right. Will have a look tonight and post them if no-one beats me to it.

Radestock: I like the idea. I don't know if you have already implemented this, but I think the Team Mentality slider should be counted as 0-21 on the slider so that the 0 is 'ultra-defensive' and 21 is 'all out attack. This would enable the count from 1-20 to match the Player's Individual Mentality Setting so one does not have an 'unbalanced' comparison. Just a thought...

Its counted as 1-22 in Radestocks IIRC - and in the one I uploaded its set to "Ultra-Defensive(1) and All-Out Attack(22)" - should be labelled 0 and 21 instead you mean?

EDIT: Team instructions is changed to reflect this - new download-link: http://www.turboupload.com/files/get/2DpHsq_uo6/panels.zip

Yes, agreed.

I think this mod should also be stickied.

Would it be possible to upload this to another place? Turboupload doesn't work for me. Says it can't connect to the page (after the countdown).

Supersaint - can the updated files you created be used to modify the default skin in the same way as radestock's original fmf version?

If not, is there a way to create an fmf archive file from your xml documents?

Hey everyone. Been away for a couple of days so I've only had the iPhone. I'll do my own update if it's still needed to include the decriptions aswell (thanks to supersaint for doing this in my absence). I'll also take a look at some of the other suggestions.
