I've literally just finished reading all of this today in work .. hope no-one in my work is on here because i've done nothing today!

What a place to catch up as well, an amazing story and can't wait to carry on reading it!

I can't get myself into a save at the minute so reading a few stories on here has definitely made me realise why I need to find something for myself

Thanks @dap1987but for the love of God go and do some work before you have to go home.

I'm the same with regards to getting into saves. I don't feel properly immersed until about 3 seasons in. When I come up with a save though, I really just push on with it until it clicks. The more time you spend playing the more invested you become. I almost force myself to become invested.

Hope you find a save soon.

International recognition. May 2044.

You may be wondering who on Earth Rudy Gerard is, and he is actually my Ass Man, so this is a little annoying. Would he continue in a dual role as I might have done?

Oh, apologies. He's not my Ass Man. He's just a coach.

European Championship Squads named. May 2044.

The 2044 Euro's are being played in Ukraine and Poland. Germany are the holders.

7f81b70667b6b84ef19c9a0c0fca2e5e.png

Despite having just won Ligue 1 with a fully Basque only squad, (most of whom are French), we have not a single player playing in the competition. The only ex player is of course (39b) Xabier (Res) * who has scored 1 International goal in 4 appearances, (although he did score 17 goals in 17 U21 appearances). He's still only 20 though so could still be playing for the U21's.

Reward for unbeaten season. May 2044.

I saw the following news article that highlighted that the Reserves have gone unbeaten all season.

125606c3ac46685f00ea9ce0e8fe2c26.png

That's pretty impressive I thought to myself. I wonder who this footballing mastermind Yohan Moutoussamy is?

It doesn't matter who he is, because he's absolutely rubbish and his reward for masterminding an unbeaten league season is the mutual termination of his contract.

aaba34014871002134c23c8ab8db66b8.png

He's neither an ex player of the club nor Basque.

c1e8778b194e4f2b649e425b6576abbd.png

So I went looking for someone who is at least Basque, and who ideally has played at our club too.

I've replaced him with this bloke who is not an ex player at all, but is at least Basque.

I didn't ask for the stadium capacity to be increased, but I think that the Youth and Training Facility upgrades are as a result of me asking earlier in the season and the physical work on them just not starting until now.

Plan for the save moving forward. May 2044.

I've not been playing much for a variety of reasons and as I have been reading others threads it's got me thinking about FM20 and who I want to manage and where. I think part of the reason I haven;t played much recently is that while we all want success in the game, I really like the battle. The slog though the early seasons when we spent 9 years in the National was probably boring as anything to most of you, but I absolutely loved it. Now we have suddenly gone and won Ligue 1 and it's all a bit weird and I don't like it. I thought it was going to take much longer than that but I think the situation has been brought forward by PSG being a shadow of their former selves.

My plan is to keep this save running but actually move in-game as and when I manage to win the Champions League, (which we have been rubbish in so far). I might even see if we can do the double if we don't manage that at the 1st attempt, but I will really just see how it goes.

In terms of where I will be going, I have a few options that I'm toying with. Nothing concrete yet though, but if I don't hurry up them @Makoto Nakamurawill have finished them all before get started.

Spoiler
  1. A Scandi-Noir save where I try and win as many different Scandinavian competitions as I can. (Is the Royal Cup still a thing because I loved the idea of that).
  2. A Back in the USSR trial save, (a little like the @Makoto Nakamuranew save but I would only be laying the ground-work for a proper 2020 go.
  3. Something lower league in South America, (but that is more likely to be held off until 2020).
  4. Something relating to clubs who play in foreign Countries, (so Merthyr Tydfil, TNS, Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Derry City, San Marino, Sheriff Tiraspol, Wellington, FC Andorra, (who have an ex Barnet player playing for them now), there is a German team that plays in Switzerland but I can't remember what it's called and there is an Italian team that plays in Switzerland but again I can't remember what they are called or even if they are playable. We also have FC Vaduz of course, (but there are issues with them and the Champions League I think), Monaco of course, FC Sevastapol are from Ukraine but play in Russia and of course there are Canadian teams (and is there a Mexican team too?) playing in the MLS?
  5. A save based in Cyprus, (or similar), where I would do a Youth only save and see what I could eke out of them.
  6. I'm thinking of doing a Youth-based Journeyman which I did in FM18 and liked it.
  7. Also thinking of doing something very set-piece based.

They should re-name this achievement and give you an Icon achievement when you become an Icon/Legend at the club. (I've always thought that the Legends/Icons sections were the wrong way round in-game).

I've been looking for another Feeder club, (specifically to recruit young talent from abroad), on and off, but different boards have never been keen and always refused. Maybe it's the Ligue 1 title in the cabinet, (by the way I have to go and see if we've been given the trophy now), but they have finally agreed.

FC Busingen is the German club in the Swiss League System.

I believe I've read a thread from this years FM who played as the Italian team in Switzerland too, worth a search.

New Affiliate Club. Jun 2044

5753af81c8075cbeeb66c6f83d8f7c10.png

I've heard of Mouscron, but I can't tell you where they are from. (It's Belgium by the way).

As well as the Country they are based in, what really makes a difference here is the facilities at the club which would generate youth players, and as such generate youth players for us.

300230bf91e3dbed029737aa85d2c524.png

Well established youth recruitment is level 17-18 out of 20 and relates to PA.

Good Junior coaching is level 14-16 out of 20 and relates to CA.

Belgium are a hot-bed of talent nowadays so this should work very well. The only problem is that I have a sneaking suspicion that we will never get a single Belgian/Basque player through the intake of any ability.

Pro Vercelli and Ascoli are both Italian clubs and on;y have average facilities so it's a no-brainer and we will be going with Mouscron. (I wonder if making Belgium an active league would help matters?)

Big bid. Jul 2044.

48127d0fe734b14d7bbab3f7e5b93c1e.png

Sporting Lisbon have come in for (36a) Dulce (Bal) (2036) * with a big bid.

£33M up front plus another £13M in clauses and then 25% profit is way more than he's worth.

5846ad963f81800ee4307eca1f6aee81.png

The thing is though that now (39b) Xabier (Res) * is no longer with us we can't afford to lose him. He's scored 24, 21 and 17 league goals in the last 3 seasons, (and 24, 28 & 22 goals in all competitions).

Wonderkids. Aug 2044.

I've just noticed that (40b) Reta (Bal) * was classed as a wonderkid so it made me go and look at who else was. We have so far had 2 products of our Academy who have come through and been classed as wonderkids, (39b) Xabier (Res) * and (36a) Dulce (Bal) (2036) *

(39b) Xabier (Res) * is still classed as a wonderkid at Spurs aged 20 and valued at £67M.

(36a) Dulce (Bal) (2036) *.  is no longer classed as a wonderkid and is now just a "striker" . He is 23 years old and valued at £24.5M.

ad904cf7beeabfaa7addebbb3b3493f1.png

I decided at the beginning of last season that Bengoetxea (BAS) (Bal) * and (41e) Tanguy (F.Pro) * would be our starting centre-backs, (despite their need for development), and they made 31 and 35(2) performances last season as a result. As an 18 and 17 year old respectively at this time last season, this was a significant investment in their future. I could have.

Interestingly/frustratingly the remaining 4 wonderkids all share just 2 positions, and in the case of the left wing, (where we also have 19 year old (40e) José Pérez (F.Det) *. I would much much MUCH prefer these positions were shared out a little more.

Do you think at any point you may take an international job alongside this one?

... you may also be happy to know, now that i've caught up, I am able to work normally and still read any updates you post without risking being fired for a lack of productivity!

The Ligue 1 Conforama trophy has finally arrived in our trophy cabinet and we have also managed to add the Trophee des Champions to our collection, (albeit only on penalties).

041236c812a4e43d43405cc6882a1193.png

Pre-season went as pre-season goes and we continued our decent form with a win on pens over Rennes in the French Charity Shield

Since then though it's been hard graft. We were well-beaten by PSG but bounced back with a narrow win over Sochaux courtesy of career goal number 44 for GK (36c) Schmidt (Bal) *. Since then though there has been little to shout about with narrow away defeats to Metz and Lens

The Ligue 1 table is not looking too pretty at the moment.

Earlier in the save I was thinking that I would take on a French age-group job, but now I think if I can win the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League, I might move the save on elsewhere. (South America looking decent at this stage).

That would be an interesting move, I've been play CM/FM since 2001 and never once ventured into South America!  So if you do, i'll be follow closely again!

Rough start to the new season, hoping it improves for you!

Stadium expansion update. Sep 2044.

That's a bigger job than I was expecting. It's basically half the stadium being re-built. Maybe this is impacting performances?

For whatever reason, the worm seems to have turned and we are back to winning ways again. The loss against Fenerbahce was because I completely rotated the whole squad in an attempt to just what we have done. I was hoping that we might sneak a win as we were at home, but we had a player sent off and with so many players rested, weren't strong enough to overcome it.

There is work to be done in the Champions League, but we are still in contention and should be able to qualify comfortably from here.

Our form isn't awful, but we are just not taking our chances despite playing reasonably well. 3 games without scoring is troubling.

We played well against Man Utd and probably deserved an away draw, but they snuck a late winner and we left with nothing.

19 players called up for International duty. Nov 2044

I think this is a record for us.

37fe2eea23312b1c285ed21fdf6b05f7.png

15 players called up for the French system and 4 for Spain.

This is the 3rd time that (39a) Jesús (F.Pro) (2039) * has been called up to the senior French squad, but he is yet to make his debut.

(39b) Xabier (Res) * is still in the French squad but he only has 2 goals from 13 senior appearances.

Unsurprisingly there are no other Basque player in the French Senior squad, the U23's, U21's or U20's, but (43c) Fayolle (Unamb) is in the U19's after being sold to Strasbourg.

There are 3 Basque players in the Spanish National squad, but none of them are products of our players or even products of our Academy.

fa9b7988fa3935c4c06d844e61459504.png

There is 1 Basque player in the Spanish U23 squad.

805f062e40f157356c2c0b121fcd3f03.png

There are 5 Basque players in the Spanish U21 squad. Although none of them are products of our Academy, 2 of them are our players.

d734f8f45e45aa228c86ed7c086a4620.png

There is 1 Basque player in the Spanish U20 side. Although he isn't a product of our Academy, he is our player, (on loan at A.Bilbao).

There are 4 Basque players in the Spanish U19 side. Although none of them are products of our Academy, 1 of them is a Bayonne player.

He thanks whom!!! Nov 2044.

Kylian Mbappe, (who is now 45 years old), has given (39a) Jesús (F.Pro) (2039) * his 1st Senior French Cap and he is gushing in his response after the game.

f7bea198b9d8ba292aab013faff93674.png

It would seem that he was pretty decent during the game too.

1a2a21c97f8587351a728e2b2416a294.png

The game was no friendly goal-fest, but a Euro League game against Spain. Needless to say that (39b) Xabier (Res) * has been stung by my recent criticism of his scoring record at this level and scored the opener.

d953701240ad9d3e6da1cd76a7cf5fbe.png

France have been performing really poorly at this level but Mbappe seems to have started to turn things around for them. He is now unbeaten in 5 games, having won 3 and drawn 2.

Nov 2044.

a452328b6cf67a048ae43602fe6b2c84.png

It was a good month with (36a) Dulce (Bal) (2036) * especially finding form and hitting 8 goals this month.

We are still conceding too many goals though, and after giving Monaco a 3 goal start, we needed this GK Goal to share the spoils.

1d38272885cec89e9e897bc92d3cb8dd.gif

(36c) Schmidt (Bal) * is up to 3 for the season and it was his 46th career goal, He's still only 24 years old and I can't see anyone taking his place in the team anytime soon.

We also scored late winners against Guingamp, (92nd minute), and Caen, (89th min), so I'm not sure if we are lucky or very fit.

We're 4th in the league but a resurgent PSG and Marseille have each only lost once and Lyon have only lost twice.

7e8b7251b81750613010de996d660f1b.png

We have qualified with a game to spare thanks to (36a) Dulce (Bal) (2036) * spanking 4 goals past Fenerbahce. Our last game is at home to Basel, (I expect 3 points), and Man Utd are at home to Fenerbahce where I expect them to also collect 3 points. It would be good if they only drew and we somehow sneaked through as top of the group, but getting through is the main thing.

And you were complaining about PSG

The 2-0 win over Spain was a big moment really in terms of the story/trajectory of this career I thought!

I know. Serves me right. I should have known better shouldn't I.

The 2-0 win was big with our Youth products getting both goals. It will be interesting to see how things develop. (39b) Xabier (Res) * has a poor return in terms of goals per International appearance, but I expect that to change over the next few years as he really starts to transfer his club form onto the International stage and really starts to fill his boots.

So this new stadium expansion, is it a drive-in experience, or do spectators have to park elsewhere?

It looks really weird doesn't it.

It looks like it is really close to the pitch though which I would love in real life. I know the capacity is only going to be something like 30,000 after this expansion is finished, and that we will only have limited expansion after that, but I think it would be an amazing stadium to play in or watch football in. Really not like other stadiums I have seen in the game.

Dulce is a beast. I wonder if he's sober or drinking these days...

I love him and he's probably been my player of the save so far, even ahead of (39b) Xabier (Res) * and (36c) Schmidt (Bal) *.

He's really not amazing for this level though and I'm delighted to say that he is no longer the party-animal that he once was.

Something peculiar. Dec 2044.

I've just had a player score against me and there was a line in commentary that surprised me because it said that he had scored against his former club.

a7b05547b1165d7694fad0301d7ceb0b.gif

Now that surprises me for a couple of reasons.

  1. I keep an eye on all the players who have played at the club and I don't recognise this bloke at all.
  2. Every single player who joins the club gets a nickname of some sort. If it's a product of our Academy then they get a detailed name change, but if if it's not they get (BAS) to indicate their Basque origins, (or not as the case may be), and a personality type.

This bloke has neither.

He's decent if unspectacular, but I still don't remember, despite the fact that his history says he was with us when he was 14.

I can go back and look at the youth intake from 1035/36 and he isn't there.

6d97475b57e6d9eae0a80a64310cc41e.png

I can also see any of the normal transfers in that were done that year.

d93cf423e2c7ebb379a84cdc1f00d0e9.png

I can even see the players that came in on trial that season.

2a1ceba0a4911e3f2a55958b7126f0ac.png

This bloke doesn't appear on any list coming in or going out. :herman:

This suggests he was with us for 17 months.

b1a4bbeacc9e7a7cdb8e9edc422858ca.png

Interestingly he is NOT Basque.

1a952a00511e6be2e327b15da0f2951e.png

In fact he comes from a Bordeaux suburb.

a5defd077f358c6e8f22f2c51a504287.png

I wondered if we had an affiliation with Metz but I don't think we did. We have had an affiliation with Le Mans for years, but I'm almost sure that we have never had one with Metz. (There would be no point because we can still only loan 7 players out to French clubs).

I think I've ruled out that he came through our Academy, so how has he come from our club then? This is all very strange. :idiot:

We've hit a good run of form with a 2nd successive unbeaten month making it 14 games unbeaten, (11 wins and 3 draws).

We qualified comfortably from our Champions League group in the end, but it wasn't enough for top spot.

0bd867bb7c4372ebaa4d8018d78be750.png

We're in contention in Ligue 1, but the 3 teams above us have only lost twice each.

PSG are still in the Champions League, French Cup and Ligue Cup.

Marseille are not playing in Europe at all this season but are still in the French Cup and Ligue Cup.

Lyon are still in the Champions League and the French Cup, but are out of the Ligue Cup.

Even ignoring the coefficient, I hope PSG and Lyon continue to progress in the Champions League because it will stretch their resources with the domestic games.

A big mistake? Jan 2045

Roma and Inter have come in with pretty good bids for a young left winger who looks ok, but whom my Ass Man and coaches say will never be really good.

He's decent, there is absolute no doubt about it, but at only 3.0 PA stars is he ever going to be more than a fringe player, (if that)?

bf13057007f305f11405fffc9ee88d18.png

He's tearing up the Youth league at the moment, but then again isn't he supposed to in a team that wins almost every game?

941b407fe207e5af942641917da1b106.png

I've negotiated the Inter offer, (down in some places), to ensure a 50% re-sale value and a friendly as well as significant other add-ons, and I will do something similar with Roma, but in my head I'm wondering why they are so keen on him. Are my scouts wrong?

76dcebc7f29de82bc7968a94943ace86.png

The problem, (and it's a nice problem to have), is that we are REALLY strong on the left wing.

(39a) Jesús (F.Pro) (2039) * is 21 years old, valued at £62M and I'm hoping to get close to £100M for him when he leaves. He has about 18 months left on his contract.

(40a) Ruiz (F.Det) (2040) * is 19 year old wonderkid and he is the player I want to step up and become 1st choice.

De Paula (BAS) (Bal) * is someone I signed as an investment for £6M. I've loaned him out to A.Bilbao and the teenager is already worth £7.75M Although he is Basque, I see him as cash and not really as a player. I want a nice bid from Bilbao, (or someone else), with some nice add-ons to make us a tidy profit.

(40e) José Pérez (F.Det) * is a wonderkid who is 3rd choice at the moment but who will become back-up when (39a) Jesús (F.Pro) (2039) * leaves.

JMM (BAS) (Bal) is a striker.

(43e) Zuhaitz (Merc) is a 17 year old who looks better than the player the Italians are after.

(41b) Rubén (Bal) * is a striker.

(34a) Merino (LHeart) (2034) * is a MC.

(42g) Adrien Granier (Pro) is the player in question.

You know I think I have answered by own question. I really have to trust the coaching staff. If it turns out he is better than they thought then I will just have to go out and splash the cash on him. With the 50% re-sale clause I should be able to get him for half price anyway.

[Edit]

Milan, Juve and Napoli are all in for him too now. I have accepted whatever they offered, but added on a 50% re-sale and friendly clause.

[Edit2]

I've just checked and Napoli and Milan came in with straight £6M cash offer and agreed to my 2 new clauses.

[Edit3]

The player is valued at £56,000 and he has just agreed to join Juve for £3.6M cash plus a lot of add-ons.

Jan 2045

Close to a perfect month, but 2 costly slip-ups cost us dear.

1st we were unable to score despite battering FC Lorient 0-0 in the Ligue Cup, (before losing on penalties), and then we somehow lost 1-0 away to Tours to undo all the good work we have done over the past 3 months.

Although we have won 10 of the last 15 league games, drawing 4 more we have dropped to 4th in the Ligue and had we beaten Tours we would be top.

Take the £6 million and then send my Buckie Thistle team £50k :D

I'd like to hope the coaches and scouts know what they're doing. They've found me a couple of crackers.

Exactly. I trust them the rest of the time, (well most of the time anyway), so it would be silly to start second-guessing them now.

It does happen in the game from time to time. It just means that he played for your club in younger age groups and then moved to Metz.

He would show as coming through Metz youth. In terms of the game you would be owed 10 clauses for games played which you have probably already been paid for.

Have a look at clauses and see if there are others, some of your youth players may be the same and come from other clubs.

Youth Intake Day. Feb 2045

What do I want from this intake?

Not a striker or an attacking midfielder or a winger. Not a GK either.

Ideally we would get a centre-half or a centre-mid.

49c27afb9f73b047a060c3eccfed7182.png#

We got a right back, and very little else. It suggests a "Generational Talent", but time will tell I guess.

(45a) Paoli (F.Amb) (2045) *.

He looks decent actually. Athletic and with some decent mental attributes at this early stage. He might actually be good.

Despite a decent run of form, PSG are back to winning ways and proving a tough nut to crack. I have already played the 1st match of March where we drew and 2 more lost points leaves us 8 points behind the leaders and seemingly out of touch..

On the plus side, there were 3 goals from GK (36c) Schmidt (Bal) * bringing him to 6 goals for the season and just 1 short of 50 in his career. He's still only 24 years old.

So here's the thing. Mar 2045

I've won Ligue 1 and of course the is still the Champions League to win and regularly smashing PSG and all that, but I am coming towards the back end of this save. (If I won the Champions league then that would be that).

With that in mind I did this last year.......

250fe0bfa505cda15bc14182fb983b90.png

Now I haven't played in Brazil for a LONG time. The last time I can't remember who I managed, but I know we played in the Pernambuco (or something similar), State Championship, which was a league that started as a league, changed into a Cup before another mini league stage, 2 cup rounds and then a 3rd league phase followed by a playoff, (I think).

It was a challenge that a few of us did with @dafugeback in the day and was a precursor to the #DafugeChallenge that exists today.

So the only problem is..... I am going through all the State Championships and I can't find the Pernambuco State Championship.

Have I remembered it correctly?

b56dfb6169d50b493c5cf9ef2d8700a7.png

Yes, it would seem I have. So why can't I find it?

So we have the Top Tier. (i'm overdue a Chapecoense save after the tragic crash a few years ago).

e0b8e45f77fa97d0e984c2436684838a.png

And then we have the 2nd Tier. (I thought I had done the name fix for Brazil, but obviously not). :(

6180e83c418253733f96232fce38a309.png

And then we have the 3rd Tier, (which is split into 2 leagues).

100c464c5a08c95ad1088d4d944cc029.png

Then we have the following states.

Acre 8
Alagoas 8
Amapa 5
Amazonas 8
Bahia 10
Brasiliense 12
Ceara 6
Espirito Santo 10
Gaucho 12
Goias 2x 6
Maranhao 8
Grosso Do Sul 2x 5
Mazto Grosso, (I'm sure I had an Italian real player play for me in FM back in the days called Matteo Grosso. He was a both-sided full-back who was amazing). Fabio Grosso! That was him. 8
Minas 12
Para 2x 5
Paraiba 2x 5
Parana 2x 6
Pernambuco. Here we go! Santa Cruz rings a bell but I'm not 100% sure. 10

eb674ecea26aa5db3e0f99f5c984a646.png

Plaui 6
Potiguar 8
Rio 2x 6
Rondonia 8
Roraima 6
Santa Catarina 10
Sau Paulo 16
Sergipe 2x 5
Tocantins 8

The league with the most opponents, (doesn't actually mean most games but let's just go with that), is......... Oh hang on, some of the numbers above are for the 2nd stages. Some of them go from 1 league to another league and others go from a League to a Cup.

Sau Paulo would be the team that play the most games, (at the 1st stage at least).

Decisions decisions decisions.
