The Long (Eaton) and winding road to...success or failure.

Looks like you are quite the cup specialists! Hopefully, some of that cup magic will rub off on the league :)

It's looking that way! :D No such magic in the league though :(...still, the board only want us to avoid relegation this season and after 3 straight promotions, I can't argue with that expectation.

Long Eaton United - November 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

02.11.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Witton Albion : 1-1 : We started November off looking to put to bed our poor league form and on 25 minutes it looked as if we would as Sean Mullan struck his 8th goal of the season to put us 1-0 up. We couldn’t build on that though as Witton struck an equalizer 3 minutes before the break as that proved to be the last goal of the game, meaning that we had to share the points and still wait for that illusive league win.

05.11.16 - FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round - Long Eaton United v St. Neots Town : 3-1 : Less than a month after St. Neots defeated us 2-0, we met them again in the FA Trophy…however, there was no referee Mr R Joyce available to help them out this time as goals from Will Aimson, Charlie Sheringham and Sean Mullan proved to be enough to send us through to the next round.

09.11.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Hednesford Town : 1-1 : A home tie against struggling Hednesford was another opportunity to get our 1st league win in nearly 2 months but after 24 minutes that was looking unlikely as the away side took the lead against the run of play. We fought back well though and got our rewards on 68 minutes through Sean Mullan’s 10th goal of the season but we weren’t able to go on a get the winner which extends our wait for a league win further.

12.11.16 - Blue Square North - Matlock Town v Long Eaton United : 2-1 : We made the difficult trip to Matlock knowing that they were in decent form and that our form was fast becoming one of the worst in the league so it was important to stop our run of league games without a win before it turned into a mini crisis. Things didn’t start well though as with just 6 minutes on the clock, the home side took the lead through Jake Kirby. As we have done all season so far though, we responded well as Sean Mullan netted his 11th goal of the season to become our leading scorer so far and put us back on level terms. We couldn’t hold on though and as is also becoming too regular for us, we fell behind again as Dan Taylor put Matlock back into the lead just after the restart leaving them to claim all 3 points and making it 8 league games without a win for us now.

19.11.16 - FA Trophy 1st Round - Bradford Park Avenue v Long Eaton United : 2-0 : We started our FA Trophy campaign off with a more than winnable tie against Bradford Park Avenue and after already losing to them this season in the league, we owed them one. It wasn’t to be though as a closely fought game saw us struggle to take our chances as Bradford Park Avenue took theirs to send us out of the competition at the first hurdle.

23.11.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Boston United : 2-1 : With us still looking for our first league win I wouldn’t of said before kick off that it would likely of come against Boston United who were going well in the league but strikes from David Moli and Charlie Sheringham brought us back from behind to claim our first league win since September 14th.

26.11.16 - FA Cup 2nd Round - Long Eaton United v Southend United : 2-1 : The pundits and bookies had us down as heavy underdogs against Southend but after already disposing of Gresley, Retford, Port Vale and Shrewsbury previously in the competition, I was quietly confident that we might just be able to sneak a win against our League One opponents. I set us up defensively, hoping that we could soak up the inevitable pressure that would come our way and hit them on the counter attack and our plan seemed to pay off as with just 5 minutes on the clock, we took the lead thanks to an own goal from Jack Ainsley. Southend obviously pushed for the equalizer but we defended magnificently as we once again soaked up the pressure and caught them out for a 2nd time as new loan signing Jordan Robertson, who signed from Scunthorpe United on loan for the remainder of the season days earlier, grabbed our 2nd goal to put us 2-0 up at half time. From there, my instructions were to just defend like beavers (to quote Kammy!) and we did just that as we hung on to win despite a late Southend goal!

30.11.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Worcester City : 0-0 : We finished the month off with a visit from bottom of the league Worcester City in a game which we should’ve dominated. But whether it was a case of our FA Cup tie against Southend taking it out of us or just our poor league form catching up with us again, we had to settle for a point as neither team could break the deadlock.

November League Table : A fairly decent month for us as we finally picked up a league win, our first since the middle of September, but 3 draws and a loss as well leaves us sitting mid table. It was mixed results for us in the cups too as we were defeated in the 1st round of the FA Trophy yet are through to the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the 2nd successive year as we’ll face Watford at Vicarage Road in January. Some other positive news for us was the arrival of 2 new faces in the form of James Fowler and Jordan Robertson to help bolster our numbers as they both join us on loan until the end of the season and we also made a profit of £150k this month thanks to our FA Cup exploits which goes a long way to improve our finances although we’re still over £500k in debt.

Long Eaton United - December 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

03.12.16 - Blue Square North - Macclesfield Town v Long Eaton United : 2-1 : The festive season saw us start off by making the trip to The Moss Rose in a game which saw us continue our poor league form as goals from Sam Wedgbury and James Nganza were enough to consign us to defeat once again.

07.12.16 - Blue Square North - Chorley FC v Long Eaton United : 0-2 : We finally dragged up the kind of football that I know we’re capable of as on loan forward Jordan Robertson netted both goals either side of half time to give us a much needed win.

13.12.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Barrow : 0-2 : We welcomed top of table and in form side Barrow to our temporary accommodation that is The City Ground, knowing that we were firm underdogs for the game. That proved to be the case as Barrow controlled much of the game with us posing very little threat on their goal as they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in the end.

17.12.16 - Blue Square North - Kettering Town v Long Eaton United : 0-1 : After meeting top of the league Barrow 4 days earlier, we met another of the league’s in form sides as Kettering Town welcomed us the Nene Park, with them sitting 2nd in the table. Things didn’t go to the bookies script though as we dominated for large periods of the game with Jordan Robertson grabbing the winner, his 4th of the season, 15 minutes from full time.

26.12.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Hyde FC : 1-1 : A busy week for us which consisted of 3 games in 6 days saw us kick it off with a home tie against Hyde. It was a scrappy game in which neither team really dominated so the draw in the end was a fair result.

28.12.16 - Blue Square North - Tamworth v Long Eaton United : 1-2 : Our busy week continued with a trip to Tamworth and after 36 minutes it looked as if we were beginning to show signs of tiredness as the number of games caught up with us as Jacob Walcott put the hosts in front. A rollocking at half time though saw us come out in the 2nd half with more impetus and desire as Jordan Robertson pulled a goal back for us, his 6th since joining us on loan last month while David Moli hit his 7th goal of the season to give us the points. Just one black mark on the game for us was the injury to Adam Nditi who is sidelined for 2 months after breaking his arm.

30.12.16 - Blue Square North - Brackley Town v Long Eaton United : 0-1 : Our packed Christmas schedule finished with a trip to Brackley who themselves were on course for a play-off push. Things didn’t start well for us though as Phillip Lowry was stretchered off just 5 minutes in to the game, adding to our growing injury list. But we carried on well despite this loss as Jordan Williams struck his first ever goal on the half hour mark to grab the win for us and leave us sitting just out of the play-offs at the end of the year.

December League Table : A much better month for us saw us pick up 4 wins, a draw and 2 losses which puts us back in contention for a play-off place as we hit the end of the year. We won’t get ahead of ourselves just yet though as just 3 points separate a play-off place and mid table with plenty of games still left to go.

Still going well, good to see that your challenging for a playoff spot.
Looking nicely poised to challenge again.
Decent work so far, chance of playoff! Keep it up
Grat to see you challenging for the playoffs.

Cheers fellas . We've turned a bit of a corner recently and play-offs are looking a realistic aim now. I just don't want a repeat month of October again or we could be slipping down the table again. Suspensions and injurues are hitting us hard at the minute though :gggrrr:

Long Eaton United - February 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

04.02.17 - Blue Square North - AFC Flyde v Long Eaton United : 1-0 : Our first of just 2 games in February saw us travel to Kellamergh Park looking to put an end to our recent poor run of no win in 3 games. But with our ‘old friend’ in charge again, R Joyce, I always suspected that it would be difficult and that feeling was proven right as on the 90th minute, the referee once again made an abysmal decision, not for the 1st time this season against us, as he awarded Flyde a very dubious penalty which they duly converted to clinch all 3 points. Fuming!

26.02.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v St. Neots Town : 1-2 : After being completely ripped off once again by referee R Joyce in our last game, this was another chance to end our poor run as we welcomed struggling St. Neots Town to The City Ground. Things started well for us as Charlie Sheringham pounced 8 minutes before the break to put us 1-0 up but our poor form caught up with us once again as we conceded two 2nd half goals to leave us 5 games without a win and 4 points adrift of the play-offs.

February League Table : So with just 2 games this month we find ourselves dropping off the pace slightly as we drop out of the play-off places, 4 points adrift and with no win in 5 games. There’s still 9 games left and obviously still a lot of points to play for but if we want to push on and end our season on a high, we need to end our current poor form.

Good to have your slump now, hopefully means you can go into the play offs as the form side if things go to plan...

Not our first slump of the season. Hope you're right about the form side thing though :)

Long Eaton United - March 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

04.03.17 - Blue Square North - Hednesford Town v Long Eaton United : 0-1 : After a disappointing defeat to struggling St. Neots Town, Hednesford were another struggling side that we should’ve taken points off and thanks to a bit of luck going our way for a change, we were awarded a very soft penalty which Charlie Sheringham netted to give us a win which ends our run of 5 games without a win and keeps the pressure on the play-off pack.

11.03.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v AFC Telford United : 3-1 : It’s amazing what a win can do to a side as one minute we’re struggling to win and the next we’re beating in form, promotion chasing AFC Telford United as goals from Charlie Sheringham, his 15th goal of the season, Will Aimson, his 2nd of the season and Jordan Robertson’s 11th goal of the season gave us a 2nd successive victory to keep our play-off dreams alive. What made the victory even more sweeter for us was the fact that it was our 1st game back at Grange Park since the redevelopment project was completed. 548 spectators witnessed it…not a bad crowd.

25.03.17 - Blue Square North - Witton Albion v Long Eaton United : 2-0 : No sooner had we notched up 2 successive wins and seemed to have turned the corner, we were back to where we were again a few weeks ago as a lackadaisical display from us ended the month with defeat for us as Ashley Stott scored a brace to give Witton all 3 points, leaving us sitting just outside the play-off places with 6 games to go,

March League Table : A decent-ish month for us as 2 wins and a loss leaves us just a point outside the play-offs with just 6 games to go. Those 6 games though all come in the month of April so it’s going to be a tough ask for us as it’s a lot of games in a short period of time for our tiring, thin squad. Can we last the distance?

Long Eaton United - April 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

01.04.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Matlock Town : 1-0 : April saw us start our final run up to the end of the season with a visit from rivals Matlock Town with themselves sitting just 5 points off the play-offs and looking to make a late play-off push. It was a tentative game with both us and Matlock looking to give nothing away and at times the nerves showed but it was us who grabbed a late winner as Cameron Brannagan struck his 3rd goal of the season on the 90th minute mark to give us a valuable win!

08.04.17 - Blue Square North - Boston United v Long Eaton United : 2-1 : We met another promotion chasing side in the form of Boston United as we made the trip to York Street looking to continue our late surge for the play-offs but just before the half hour mark saw us fall behind as Boston took the lead through Tosin Olufemi before Kyle Storer doubled the home sides advantage with a rasping volley leaving us to regroup at half time. We responded well in the 2nd half but could only muster up one goal through Jordan Williams’ 1st goal of the season as Boston walked away with the points leaving us hanging just out of the play-off places.

12.04.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Chorley : 1-0 : We made hard work of our meeting with Chorley who themselves were fighting for their life but we managed to make use of our dominance as Jordan Williams netted the winner early on with his 2nd goal in as many games to give us more valuable points.

17.04.17 - Blue Square North - Worcester City v Long Eaton United : 0-3 : We made the trip to St. George’s Lane with a struggling Worcester City finding it difficult to pick up points and despite them dominating possession we had the game under control as a Charlie Sheringham brace and a solo effort from Phillip Lowry gave us the points.

22.04.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Macclesfield Town : 0-0 : A win against Macclesfield would almost certainly confirm our place in the play-offs but despite constantly knocking on the Macclesfield door we were unable to produce a goal as the game petered out into a 0-0 draw leaving us to face title challengers Barrow on the last day to claim a play-off place.

29.04.17 - Blue Square North - Barrow v Long Eaton United : 1-1 : The last day of the season saw us travelling to Barrow knowing that a win would confirm our place in the play-offs while Barrow needed a win (and hope Kettering lost) to claim the title. Things didn’t start well for us as the league’s top scorer Sam Winnall put them into the lead on 10 minutes. We continue to push though and on 90 minutes we got our reward as Adam Nditi grabbed a dramatic late winner with his 2nd goal of the season to put us into the play-offs and deny Barrow the league title.

April League Table : So we finished the month off with 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss which was enough in the end to guarantee us a play-off place where we’ll meet AFC Telford. It is worth noting that earlier in the season saw them beat us 1-0 at their place while we beat them 3-1 at ours so a win each makes it difficult to say who’ll win the play-off semi-final.

Long Eaton United - May 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

02.05.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v AFC Telford : 1-1 : So our play-offs started with us welcoming AFC Telford to a packed Grange Park, our highest ever attendance, and within 3 minutes Phillip Lowry had put us into the lead to send our fans mental. But 2 minutes after the restart saw the away side equalize leaving the game to finish 1-1 and on a knife edge for the 2nd leg in 5 days time.

07.05.17 - Blue Square North - AFC Telford v Long Eaton United : 4-1 : If the 1st leg was a close affair, this was anything but as AFC Telford took charge and dominated the game from the 1st minute to the last winning the game 4-1 and leaving us to spend another season in the Blue Square North. Considering our aim at the start of the season was to just stay in the division though, for us to reach the semi final of the play-offs is a fantastic season for us.

Long Eaton United - Season Review 2016/17

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

Blue Square North/Blue Square North progress : At the start of the season the board wanted us to stay clear of relegation but as I said, a mid-table finish or even a sneaky push for the play-offs were a possibility and that proved to be the case as a late push from us saw us claim a play-off place. Unfortunately though, we couldn’t go that extra step in the play-offs as Telford sent us packing in the semi final.

FA Cup : Another fantastic run in the FA Cup for us as we made the 3rd round for the 2nd successive season.

FA Trophy : A disappointing performance from us in this competition as we were knocked out in the 1st round.

Transfers : 10 players came and 11 went as we brought in some midfield quality in the form of Henry Jones (who spent last season on loan with us) and Phillip Lowry both on free transfers with Jordan Robertson the other stand out transfer we made as he settled into the squad well; just a shame he was only on loan.

Squad : The majority of the squad have been together for a few seasons now and are more than gelling as they adapted to the Blue Square North this season with no problems at all. New signings Henry Jones and Phillip Lowry had no problems in gelling with the squad but as usual, it was Charlie Sheringham who was our main threat as he bagged 18 goals in all competitions for us making him the highest goal scorer ever for the club with 60 league goals. Our other striker Sean Mullan did well for us too as he netted 13 goals while loan signing Jordan Robertson settled in quickly as he scored 11 goals since November.

Finances : Still not good as we’re now -£600k in debt but a third of that was due to the expansion of Grange Park. We’re still not making a profit though and if it wasn’t for our great cup run then we’d be further in debt than we currently are. I can feel the board interfering soon though and selling a few of our players .

My views of the season… : A great season for us considering we were amongst the relegation favourites. A little disappointing to have reached so far and lose in the play-offs but we shouldn’t grumble really as we far exceeded our initial expectations.

My aims for next season… : The obvious aim would be to go one better and win promotion either via the play-offs or automatically but we still have to remember how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. Mid table or another sneaky play-off push and I’ll be happy.

Unlucky there, next season will be yours.
Good first season in Blue Square North, hopefully you can do it next year.
Good season, hopefully next year you can push on and get promoted.
Very close to the title, but that debt is getting scary...

Thanks guys  Hopefully we can push on next season but as cerud says, the debt is getting scary now and my wage budget has been slashed by a grand a week now making it impossible to bring new players in :(. Gonna be a tough season next year for us I think. Maybe I've taken LEUFC as far as I can now?

Still an excellent season.

Definitely. Especially given our pre-season predictions.

Bad luck in the playoffs, but not a bad first attempt at the BSN. Maybe give it one more season?

Not a bad attempt if I do say so myself :D. The debt is crippling us though and as I've just started pre-season, the board have slashed our wage budget by £1000 per week, a massive amount for us, making it impossible to bring in any new players to make the step up. Perhaps a season or two more but if something comes up, I'd probably have to consider it.

Long Eaton United - Pre-Season 2017/18

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

League expectation

-------------------------

Blue Square North : Board expectation - Respectable league position : Media expectation - 11th (out of 22)

Cup expectations

---------------------

FA Cup : 4th Qualifying round

FA Trophy : 1st round

Transfer budget : £0k

Wage budget : £4.06 p/w

Current wage bill : £4.41 p/w

Season tickets sold : 99 (+1 from last season)

My views for the season ahead… : After a fine debut season in the Blue Square North for us last season which saw us taste defeat in the play-off semi final, the board and media are expecting us to finish mid-table this year. While another promotion push would be nice for us, as I said at the end of last season, we have to remember how far we’ve come in such a short space of time and given the fact that we’ve had our wage budget slashed by £1k per week, it makes adding to our squad very difficult and we have in fact lost a couple of players due to not being able to offer any decent contracts. While we’ve brought in 11 players during pre-season (1 of those being on loan), those players that we have brought in are no where near the quality that we need and have in fact been brought in as reserve/youth team players just to give us some numbers and depth to the squad.

We’re also still losing money every month with the debt crippling us and with no chance of bringing in players for us to make that next step up, I may have to start looking elsewhere for a job if I want to progress my career.

Long Eaton United - July 2017/18

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

25.07.17 - Friendly - Ossett Town v Long Eaton United : 1-2 : Our pre-season kicked off with a visit to Ossett Town which saw goals from Cameron Brannagan and Phillip Lowry either side of Rory France’s goal to give us a tight 2-1 victory and some fitness under our belt.

29.07.17 - Friendly - Long Eaton United v Grimsby Town : 2-1 : Our 2nd pre-season friendly saw us welcome Blue Square Premier side Grimsby Town to Grange Park and with Sean Mullan recently moaning about a lack of first team football, I put him into the squad. As it turned out, he repaid my faith in him as he netted both goals in a 2-1 win to give us an impressive pre-season win over higher opposition.

Long Eaton United - August 2017/18

Long Eaton United

05.08.17 - Friendly - Long Eaton United v Fleetwood Town : 1-3 : Our 3rd and final pre-season game saw us meet League 2 opposition in the form of Fleetwood Town, but over the 90 minutes the visitors quality shone through as they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. Still, it was a spirited performance against opposition that are 2 tiers above us plus it gave us that extra bit of fitness preparation ready for the start of the new season in 7 days time.

12.08.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Harrogate Town : 3-1 : Recently relegated Blue Square Premier side and Blue Square North title favourites this season, Harrogate Town wouldn’t of been my first choice to open our season with and after 16 minutes it looked as if my initial feelings were right as we fell behind to a John O’Sullivan wonder strike from 30 yards. But, we responded well as Sean Mullan opened his account for the season 8 minutes before the break and then Charlie Sheringham put us into an unexpected lead 2 minutes after half time. New signing Carl Naylor made it 3-1 with a goal on his debut before Harrogate pulled a goal back to make it 3-2, but we managed to hold onto the win and make a winning start to our season :).

15.08.17 - Blue Square North - AFC Telford v Long Eaton United : 0-0 : We made the trip to New Bucks Head to face the team that ended our hopes of promotion last season in the play-off semi final and from the off, the home side looked to pile more misery on us. But we set our stall out well as we defended like beavers to hang on to a point.

19.08.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Worksop Town : 2-1 : Goals from David Moli and Alex O’Hanlon were enough to give us all 3 points but that did come at a price as defender Jordan Hendrie and goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin picked up injuries.

26.08.17 - Blue Square North - Hitchin Town v Long Eaton United : 2-1 : We ended the month with a disappointing defeat at Hitchin Town as despite dominating the game for large periods of the game, the home side capitalized on their chances by scoring both of them.

August League Table : A fairly decent start to the season for us as 2 wins, a draw and a loss leaves us sitting 9th in the table. Obviously with just 4 games of the season played you can’t make any real assessment of the squad yet but a big bonus for us is undoubtedly Carl Naylor’s emergence as he’s made a good impact on the squad since joining us on a free transfer from Notts County.

Long Eaton United - September 2017/18

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

02.09.17 - Blue Square North - Stalybridge Celtic v Long Eaton United : 0-0 : A match of no real action or opportunities unsurprisingly ended 0-0 as we took another point away from home.

05.09.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Witton Albion : 1-1 : We welcomed Witton Albion to Grange Park and within 12 minutes, Marcus Marshall, on loan from Wycombe Wanderers picked up a straight red card on his debut for us as he made a stupid challenge leading to his dismissal which I could have no arguments about. Needless to say, the remainder of the game was very difficult for us as we switched to a defensive system, giving up possession to try and get something from the game but David Moli surprised the flow of the game 6 minutes after the restart as he struck his 2nd goal of the season to put us 1-0 up. Our lead didn’t last long though as Witton hit back 8 minutes later leaving the game to end in a draw and give us a well earned point.

09.09.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Brackley Town : 1-2 : We welcomed early pace setters Brackley Town to Grange Park knowing that they were in fine form and that showed as they raced into a 2-0 lead after 63 minutes. We pulled a goal back through Phillip Lowry’s 1st goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as Brackley walked away with all of the points.

16.09.17 - Blue Square North - Matlock Town v Long Eaton United : 2-1 : 7 days after our defeat to Brackley, we met another team who had made a fine start to the season in the form of Matlock Town but after 21 minutes it was us who took the lead as Charlie Sheringham netted his 3rd of the season. Matlock responded quickly though and showed why they’re one of the league’s form teams as 2 goals in 3 minutes put them into the lead as they held on to take the points leaving us without a win in 5 games.

23.09.17 - Blue Square North - Solihull Moors v Long Eaton United : 0-3 : With no win in 5 games for us, a result in this game was a must if we were going to halt our poor recent run and thanks to a brace from Charlie Sheringham, his 4th and 5th of the season and a 1st goal of the season for Rob Holding, we got it to hopefully put back on the right track.

26.09.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Newcastle Town : 3-1 : The win at Solihull seemed to have galvanized the squad as despite falling behind to a Liam Newman strike, we controlled most of the game dominating possession while notching an incredible 25 shots on goal of which 3 went in from the boot of Sean Mullan (2) and Charlie Sheringham (1).

30.09.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Hyde FC : 2-0 : We ended the month hosting Hyde in a game which saw us continue our mini revival as a goal from Rob Holding, his 2nd of the season and Adam Nditi’s 1st of the season gave us a 2-0 win leaving us sitting just out of the play-off places at the end of September.

September League Table : The month of September started slowly for us as we kicked it off with 2 draws and 2 losses. But we managed to pick our form up towards the end of the month as we won 3 games on the bounce to leave us sitting just 2 points off the play-offs. September also saw the arrival of 4 new faces as George Green, James Grant, Henk van der Loo and Emmanuel Fobi-Edusei joined us, all on free transfers and while they all arrived on youth contracts with a view to looking to the future with them, their arrival seemed to have livened the place up a bit as it coincided with our turn around in form. One other good piece of news for us this month was that the board restructured our debt and while it means a 20 year loan paying the money back, it has secured our finances slightly and put us back into the black, easing the worry of future administration and points deductions.

George Green is that current highly rated prospect from Everton isn't? If so, how the hell have you managed to get him?

You're bottling it already :D. Like me :(.

Hull was awesome.

It is George Green from Everton but I've never heard of him. Picked him up on a free after Hyde released him. My scouts say he'll make a good League Two midfielder in the future but you say he's highly rated? Might keep him then :D. Here's the lads history so far.

Not bottling it just yet, we're still in touch with the chasing pack with plenty of games left :D

I was gonna get a ticket for Hull but decided against it last minute...wish I went now. Great result for us!

You decided against it? Are you nuts :D.

He is highly rated. Was signed by Everton from a Bradford City a season or so ago. He's still 16/17 iirc.

I know, had a few things I needed to do so didn't go...should've put them on hold! Oh well, Sheff Wednesday was amazing a few weeks back. Don't fancy going to any of our last 4 away games.

I've never heard of the lad...same as last years FM. I signed Luke Shaw without realising his potential.

I'm glad I went. Was on the 2nd to last row to the back and had a great view. We had about 4 fans escorted out, they have 1 or 2. Our fans started chanting, One eye, he's only got one eye and then he scored just before half-time :D. The Hull fans started chanting it back and we were still singing it as well. Well some. Billy Davies is awesome. Last 5 minutes, we were signing Billy Davies is a red and instead of going to the touchline to keep the players minds on it, he was more interested in clapping us and getting us to be louder :D.

Long Eaton United - October 2017/18

Long Eaton United

07.10.17 - FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round - Long Eaton United v Worksop Town : 1-1 : Our FA Cup campaign kicked off with a visit from Worksop Town in a game which didn’t really see a lot of quality. Worksop pressed for much of the 1st half and took the lead 3 minutes before the break but we continued to plough on as we finally got our rewards, and no less than we deserved as Charlie Sheringham popped up a minute before full time to force the game to a replay in 4 days time.

11.10.17 - FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round replay - Worksop Town v Long Eaton United : 0-0 (5-3 on pens) : Days earlier saw ourselves and Worksop play out a 1-1 draw and this match was unsurprisingly a close affair too as both teams failed to break the deadlock in full time and extra time leaving it to go all the way to penalties. From then on in it was a lottery which saw Worksop win as Charlie Sheringham missed the deciding penalty to put the home side through to the next round and us out at the first hurdle :(.

14.10.17 - Blue Square North - Tamworth v Long Eaton United : 2-2 : A strange game for us as whether we were still feeling the effects of our FA Cup replay game or we just were in fact rubbish, we didn’t show up for this game as twice Tamworth took the lead after having 22 shots on goal. We did respond well though even though we were down to 10 men after Marcus Marshall picked up his 2nd red card in as many games as Phillip Lowry and Carl Naylor provided our responses, but overall I wasn’t happy with our performance. But I suppose with us playing quite badly and still coming away with a 2-2 draw and a point I have to be happy.

17.10.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v AFC Flyde : 2-0 : A much better performance from us as an own goal and Sean Mullan’s 4th goal of the season just before the break were enough to hand the victory to us.

28.10.17 - Blue Square North - FC Halifax Town v Long Eaton United : 1-1 : We ended the month with a 1-1 draw away at Halifax as Charlie Sheringham rescued a point for us a minute from time with his 8th goal of the season.

October League Table : A decentish month for us as 2 league draws and a league win put us into a play-off place at the end of October. Obviously the disappointment for us though is our early exit in the FA Cup as Worksop sent us packing at the first hurdle after a replay.

Long Eaton United - November 2017/18

Long Eaton United

07.11.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Droylsden : 3-1 : A fairly comfortable game for us which saw us control much of the game as goals from Phillip Lowry, Sean Mullan and Charlie Sheringham were enough to give us the points.

11.11.17 - FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round - Long Eaton United v Hyde FC : 1-1 : Our FA Trophy adventure started with a visit from Hyde and within 6 minutes we were behind. We probed and probed to try and get an equalizer and finally did 3 minutes from time through Ryan Brobbel’s 1st goal of the season to keep alive our hopes of a cup run.

15.11.17 - FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round replay - Hyde FC v Long Eaton United : 0-2 : 4 days earlier saw us grab a late equalizer to force Hyde to a replay and this time we made no mistake as Adam Nditi’s 2nd goal of the season and a 1st career goal from George Green put us into the hat for the next round.

18.11.17 - Blue Square North - St. Neots Town v Long Eaton United : 1-0 : We made the trip to Rowley Park knowing that St. Neots were the form team having won their last 4 games on the bounce and with us having played 2 cup games in the last 7 days, some rotation was needed from us so in came new loan signing Santiago Gonzalez, on a season long loan from Notts County, to give a bit of freshness to the team. Despite a tight game though, it was the form team that took the lead and in the end the points as Luke O’Nien’s goal 2 minutes before half time proved to be enough.

22.11.17 - Blue Square North - Macclesfield Town v Long Eaton United : 0-2 : We put aside our minor blip last game against St. Neots as Charlie Sheringham’s 10th goal of the season and Rob Holding’s 3rd of the season gave us all 3 points.

25.11.17 - FA Trophy 1st Round - Bradford Park Avenue v Long Eaton United : 3-1 : After scraping past Hyde after a replay in the previous round, we were drawn against Bradford Park Avenue, who actually knocked us out of this competition at the same stage last season. New signing Joe Connell, on a 3 month loan with us from Notts County went straight into the starting line up and grabbed a goal for us but it was a similar story as last year for us as the home side once again sent us packing in the 1st round after disposing of us 3-1, leaving us with no more cup competitions to play in this season.

28.11.17 - Blue Square North - Boston United v Long Eaton United : 1-0 : We ended the month with a disappointing performance against fellow promotion chasers Boston United as we failed to register a single shot on target as the home side ran out 1-0 winners to leave us hanging just outside the play-off places at the end of November.

November League Table : With the season in full swing now, November saw us pick up 2 league wins and 2 league losses to leave us sitting 7th in the table just a point off the play-offs. Once again it was disappointment in the cup for us too as after scraping past Hyde we were outclassed by Bradford Park Avenue as they once again sent us out of the FA Trophy for the 2nd successive season. A couple of positives for us though as the squad was strengthened with the arrival of Santiago Gonzalez and Joe Connell, both on loan from neighbours Notts County, who should add some real quality to our team.

Long Eaton United - December 2017/18

Long Eaton United

02.12.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Chorley : 1-1 : The Christmas season started with us hosting strugglers Chorley but at times it looked as if we were the struggling for form as Chorley dominated for long periods of the game eventually getting their rewards 6 minutes after the restart thanks to Alan Almond. But we managed to respond quickly as Joe Connell hit his 2nd goal in as many games since arriving from Notts County to give us a share of the spoils.

06.12.16 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Altrincham : 1-1 : High flyers Altrincham made the trip to Grange Park in a game in which I would’ve taken a point from before kick off…and that proved to be the result as Joe Connell’s 3rd goal in 3 games cancelled out Vilyan Bijev’s 4th minute opener.

09.12.17 - Blue Square North - Bradford Park Avenue v Long Eaton United : 2-2 : We made the trip to Horsfall Stadium to face our FA Trophy conquerors and within 17 minutes Santiago Gonzalez put us into the lead with his 1st for the club; but 5 minutes before the break we couldn’t hold on as Bradford Park Avenue grabbed a deserved equalizer. We came out in the 2nd half looking to capitalize on our possession and we would’ve if it wasn’t for Conor Gough as he kept us at bay thanks to a fine string of saves. It was in fact the home side that got the next goal though as Mark Houghton broke free of our defence to put the home side 2-1 up. It looked as if that was how it was going to stay…until 8 minutes from time that is when George Green pounced to grab his 2nd goal of the season and give us a share of the points.

23.12.17 - Blue Square North - Harrogate Town v Long Eaton United : 0-0 : A nice 2 weeks rest for our players should’ve reinvigorated our squad but it looked to have done the opposite as the neither side created many opportunities as the game fizzled out into a 0-0 draw.

26.12.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v AFC Telford : 1-0 : AFC Telford made the journey to the East Midlands and thanks to Alex O’Hanlon’s 2nd goal of the season on 57 minutes, they left with nothing as we beat our play-off victors 1-0 to break our run of recent draws.

30.12.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Hitchin Town : 2-2 : We ended the year with a visit from Hitchin Town and with no Charlie Sheringham in the squad, who picked up an ankle injury in training which will keep him out for 4 weeks, David Moli went into the team to replace him. It seemed as if he had a point to prove as his brace was enough to secure a point for us to leave us sitting 6th in the league at the end of the month.

December League Table : December saw us become somewhat draw specialists as 5 draws and a win leave us sitting 6th in the table, 4 points of a play-off place. Positives and negatives for us though as we went unbeaten during the month of December, albeit us picking up 5 draws but an ankle injury has ruled out Charlie Sheringham for around 4 weeks which is a big blow for us. We were also subject to a takeover bid in which the prospective buyer would wipe out our current debt but in the end the talks stalled as the takeover eventually collapsed. Hopefully we get some rich Middle Eastern tycoon interested in the lovely sights of Long Eaton in the future :D.

Long Eaton United - January 2017/18

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

01.01.18 - Blue Square North - Worksop Town v Long Eaton United : 0-1 : We started the new year off by getting revenge over our FA Cup victors as an own goal from James Burke gave us all 3 points. There was a downside to the game for us though as rising star George Green tore his calf muscle which will leave him out for 4 to 5 months :(.

06.01.18 - Blue Square North - Witton Albion v Long Eaton United : 1-3 : We continued our good form by beating Witton Albion 3-1 thanks to goals from Rob Holding, Carl Naylor and David Moli to extend our unbeaten run to 8 games.

13.01.18 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Stalybridge Celtic : 0-1 : We looked as if we would carry our fine form on against visitors Stalybridge as at times we played some great football but ultimately we couldn’t get that vital goal as the away side defended like beavers for much of the game and grabbed a late injury time winner to end our 8 game unbeaten run.

20.01.17 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Matlock Town : 3-1 : We were always in control of this game as we raced into a 3 goal lead before the 1st half was over thanks to Joe Connell’s 4th goal of the season and David Moli’s 6th and 7th goals of the season. Matlock came out in the 2nd half with a bit more about them and pulled a goal back on 61 minutes through Jonathan Smith but the damage was done in 40 1st half minutes as we took all 3 points.

27.01.17 - Blue Square North - Brackley Town v Long Eaton United : 2-0 : We finished the month off with a visit to high flying league leaders Brackley Town and after just half an hour we found ourselves 2-0 down through a couple of silly mistakes in our back four. We played some good stuff at times and managed to get some shots away too which caused their keeper some problems but in the end Brackley proved why they’re running away with the title as they were just too strong for us and ran out 2-0 winners.

January League Table : We find ourselves in the same position as this time last year as we sit 5th in the table on 46 points, only 3 points worse off than we were last year. We have a similar goal difference too, give or take a couple of goals so things are looking on course for another promotion push…at the minute. With injuries and suspensions building up though over the coming months and a couple of players returning their parent clubs once their short term loans expire (Joe Connell is one of those players), the squad might suffer so I’ve brought in Craig Comrie on a 3 month loan from Wycombe Wanderers just to keep our squad numbers healthy should we encounter an influx of injuries.

Long Eaton United - February 2017/18

LEUFC.png

Long Eaton United

03.02.18 - Blue Square North - Newcastle Town v Long Eaton United : 3-3 : We started February off with a humdinger against Newcastle Town as we fell behind twice in the first half to a Jordan Bent strike and a Liam Newman goal. But we managed to pull it back both times thanks to 2 goals from Joe Connell and then took the lead 7 minutes from full time thanks to Will Aimson’s 1st goal of the season. We tried to shut up shop after that and protect our lead but we couldn’t hang on as just 2 minutes later we conceded the equalizer, leaving us to share the points.

10.02.18 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Solihull Moors : 1-0 : Our only other game in February came against strugglers Solihull Moors in a game which saw us make hard work of the win as Charlie Sheringham finally got the winner with his 11th goal of the season.

February League Table : A draw and a win was enough to see us rise another place in the league to 4th which keeps us in contention for a play-off place. With still just 6 points separating us and Witton Albion in 10th though it’s looking very close as to who will be involved in this years play-offs.

Long Eaton United - April 2017/18

Long Eaton United

02.04.18 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v St. Neots Town : 3-0 : A fantastic performance from us against one of our bogey teams as we restricted the away side to just one long shot on our goal while a double strike from our man in form Charlie Sheringham and a single goal from debutant Craig Lynch gave us the win.

07.04.18 - Blue Square North - Droylsden v Long Eaton United : 0-1 : A very open game against bottom of the league Droylsden saw us having to wait until the 88th minute before we secured all 3 points thanks to captain Will Aimson’s 2nd goal of the season to leave us sat firmly in 2nd, 10 points behind leaders Brackley.

14.04.18 - Blue Square North - Altrincham v Long Eaton United : 1-1 : We made the trip to fellow promotion hopeful’s Altrincham knowing that we’d be in for a real tough game as they have aspirations of their own. Things weren’t looking well for us as Altrincham took the lead just after half time but we continued to knock on their door and finally got our rewards 9 minutes from time as Adam Nditi grabbed an equalizer for us to give us a vital point and maintain our unbeaten run, which now stretches to 9.

21.04.18 - Blue Square North - Long Eaton United v Boston United : 2-1 : Another win for us thanks to goals from David Moli and a first for the club for Liam Grimshaw, not to mention a missed penalty from Boston United, helped us rack up another 3 points which extends our unbeaten run and more or less cements our place in the play-offs.

28.04.18 - Blue Square North - Chorley v Long Eaton United : 1-1 : A point against strugglers Chorley proved to be enough to guarantee us a place in the play-offs as we can now look forward to another chance of achieving promotion to the Blue Square Premier.

April League Table : 3 wins and 2 draws saw us clinch a play-off place as we have a chance to make amends for last seasons play-off defeat.
