The 2012-2013 Manchester United Thread: Thank you, Sir Alex

For the first time in his management career, Solskjær is in pretty serious trouble. Have opened the season with 4 straight losses, which is a historic first for the reigning champion. They don't look particularly great either. He'll need to show what he's made of now. With only 30 matches in the season here, they could very well be out of the title race already. Guess it goes to show how difficult it can be to sustain success and take 3 titles on the trot, like SAF harps on about a lot. They could really use a proper striker though. Been lacking quality there for years, and it's even worse this season.

Will be interesting to see how he tackles this.

Can't score, play with 3 strikers and an attacking midfielder. :D

EDIT: I reckon Valencia will be at RB and Jones in the centre.

Tbf I think it's Rio/Vida at the back, Carrick just in front and everyone else camped in Stoke's penalty area so it won't really make a blind bit of difference who plays where :D

Could do with a performance today to give us some impetus for the last few games - presume Welbz on the bench. When do we have the four strikers on?

When its 23 minutes left and we are trailing to a solitary Walters shin ball while Begovic has made 20 Quintillion wonder saves.

Please kick on, no sitting back or dropping tempo.
We have the ball and we are in control so push for number 2 before Stoke shake off the sleep.

Why did I ask? We were always going to revert to type.

In the 2nd half, we will struggle to hold the ball then Stoke will score and SAF will throw on Welbeck for Kagawa and go with striker overload.

Was a genuine slip though, but weird situation.

You can see Jones is a very talented footballer, but he is still a bit raw. Think we'll reap the rewards later when he matures more. Playing out wide is only a learning exercise for him, SAF does this a lot. It improves their understanding of the game. When Rio (and Vidic) retires, he'll be our mainstay central defender, with Smalling and Evans. Then maybe Michael Keane can step into the role Jones has now, with matches on the fullback to learn, plus a good loan spell in the PL.

Rooney is not our Midfield solution, do not fuel this idea in the head of SAF Gary Neville. Alan Smith says hello

Smith and Rooney are completely and utterly incomparable when it comes to ability to play in midfield. Not disagreeing with the point you are making, just the manner in which you make it :D

:D They're not the brightest lot.

Don't understand what Owen does in a team like Stoke (not that he could get anywhere else, but lets ignore that). Him excluded, their average height is 2.07m and they play likewise.

Rooney can become a good midfielder, but he's not our solution there. We have plenty of offensive guys, it's a more complete/defensive type we need.
