bermybhoy
Brilliant stuff Paul Always on the cards with such a good team, but still never easy. Shame there's absolutely no way in FM to pit these two teams against each other... This does of course also mean I can get this final write up finalised soon too. bermybhoy
Wallace v Roberts 2008: the end of a long road The story in brief Two clubs. Two managers. 20 members of the CSE community. 48 seasons. 11 Promotions. 1 Relegation. 16 cups. 3 Premier League titles. 2 Champions Leagues. So that’s pretty much it for the current edition of Wallace v Roberts. Back in March, the legendary strikers went head to head in a battle to take their clubs to the very top. Sure, there have been hic-cups on the way, but they got there in the end. From humble beginnings which included a struggle for many seasons to make it out the lower divisions of the English Leagues, both sides, the Northern Monkeys and the Southern Softies, have gone on to become massive clubs in the English game, attracting world-class players and ultimately winning the biggest prizes football has to offer. This of course was all done under the guidance of various members of the community. bermybhoy
The award ceremony Everyone who participated has played a massive part, some more than others. So without further ado, I’d like to announce some awards to be presented to those a few people who’ve made outstanding contributions, in one way or another. The Ron Atkinson award for longevity: Dafuge, for completing 6 seasons, out in front of Robert_296 on 5, and both myself and Nep on 4. The Lewis Hamilton award for driving a club forward: Dava, for two promotions – no-one else managed it more than once. The Jock Stein award for bringing home the Big Cup first: Jointly shared by dafuge and PaulHartman71 The Polaris award for taking a club down: NepentheZ, step forward and take a bow. The Steve McLaren award for not winning very much at all: There’s a few contenders here, but based on number of seasons played without getting promoted or winning a cup (and arguably scoring negative points on this scale with that relegation), one man is way out in front, come back up NepentheZ! Now the most prestigious award: Sir Alex Furious award for most successful manager Note that his is calculated as total number of successes divided by no. of seasons played. Therefore, it ignores how major any particular trophy is. In third: dave safc - 1.33 ‘successes’ per season In second: dafuge – 1.5 trophies per season But the winner is: Dava – 1.67 trophies per season played Congratulations Dava, on overcoming the overwhelming favourite for that one.
bermybhoy
Now a few other special awards: The Jackanory award for story telling: Jimbokav – for putting unprecedented effort into his updates. The Lord Lucan award for starting a season then disappearing without trace: Jointly shared by HunterKiller and thezogsageordie The Golden Rubber Duck award for losing a save game whilst in the shower: Now, who was this again? Let me know and claim your award! Remember and save the game occasionally… Edit: apparently Ridleys was the man (cheers Robert) Credit crunch award for creative use of a loan: Robert_296 – would the Softies have gone onto such success without Olly Kenney? The King Tutankhamun award for use of hieroglyphics: Jimbokav again, for a load of stars and other uses of the nicknaming function which no-one else quite figured out The Magnus Magnusson award for starting but not finishing: Roberto922. Looking forward to a full season some time… Mention too for Gundo on getting going then passing the game on before it all went horribly wrong. The Mary-Kate and Ashley award for suggesting two teams would be better than one: Robert_296 – a fine idea, we could all agree And finally… Big thanks for dafuge for ‘looking after the shop’ any time I’ve been away and keeping things ticking over and also for drumming up some greater participation. Many thanks again to everyone who helped develop the idea and especially those who took part and made it one of the liveliest, most unique and most entertaining threads around. Here’s to making Wallace v Roberts 2009 an even bigger success.
