Default The Football Manager Podcast is back!

It's back! The only podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout.

Caretaker presenter Neil Cole and FM supremo Miles Jacobson are joined by QPR and Spurs legend Clive Wilson and the acclaimed football writer Jonathan Wilson (no relation) for a look back at the transfer window winners and losers, the rising influence of tax on the transfer market and the post-Olympics 'passion drop'.

All of this and some exclusive news on Football Manager 2013 too.

Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes by clicking here or to the RSS feed by clicking here.

It's OK. Audio clicks from one of the microphones mixed with the ambient noise from the recording very distracting.

    - General discussion on Tax Breaks
    - General bragging about how amazing the database is (with no praise or recognition to the hours that the slaves known as 'Assistant Researchers' put into the game for free which is something of a pet hate of mine as it comes across very smarmy considering the money made)

    - Different Reactions to being cut from 30 Man International Squads
    - #640: Calender Bar Revamp - Pop Up Calender Bar. First Team Fixtures are more prominent than reserve team ones
    - #326: Blank
    - #555: Competitions and Rule Groups - African Nations Rankings to Continental Club Competitions (no one knows what this means and it's this week's competition)
    - #789: Challenges - Injury Crisis: Your team is swamped with injury problems can you still finish in the top 4
    - #321: International Revamp - International Press Conference Question (Replacement of Captain requires a follow up question)

    - Discussion on Steve Kean not watching his players
    - Discussion about Blackburn's Director of Football
    - J.Wilson declares Blackburn an utter mess and lets slip that the Venky Group consults with Journalists about players
    - £8m for Jordan Rhodes

    - International Qualifyer discussion
    - Players pulling out of the squad
    - Young players not being given the chance of 1st Team Football hindering the England Squad

    SIGames don't pay researchers?

Strange given that even EA do for FIFA, a franchise that isn't even dependant on the accuracey of player attributes.

I don't think EA pay the researchers, they pay the people who sit there and enter all the data.

There's a lump-sum payment every summer for the database editor of each team, i.e. those that decide on the attributes. Those that enter it into the game is a different role entirely, but since that's done internally I imagine that's paid as well.

No, there isn't. There may be (I haven't ever heard there is though) for head researchers of entire countries, but assistant researchers who decide on attributes for their club do not get paid anything. A free copy of the game is the only reward other than making the game better.

I'm talking about FIFA, not FM. Read my previous replies.

EA provide a lump-sum payment + a free copy for every team editor. It's not a huge amount but it's a least something, I'm surprised SEGA/SI don't provide the same.

It usually comes out during the podcasts, certainly for the last 3/4 years but not sure about before. I only started listening to them before the release of FM09.

Really enjoyed it. Clive and Jonathan were great guests. I always love Jonathan Wilson though. The whole thing felt tidier than some of the earlier podcasts... but who knows, there's plenty of time to start degenerating yet! KUTGW Miles

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout

Presenter Ankur Desai and FM supremo Miles Jacobson look back at a fairly disappointing international week and forward to the opening salvoes of this season’s Champions League in the company of former Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and England defender Ugo Ehiogu and Absolute Radio presenter Andy Bush.

The wide-ranging conversation also takes in how different players respond to criticism, how UEFA’s FFP regulations may impact on Football Manager 2013 and the best time to visit Ikea on a Saturday.

Does it get more comprehensive than that?

Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes by clicking here or to the RSS feed by clicking here.

As usual, it's available for subscribers immediately, but can take a couple of hours to sync to the iTunes store front. If you can't see it there, hit subscribe and it will download straight away.

    - Ugo Ehiogu needs a builder
    - Miles is fickle when it comes to his dislike for International Football and ended up with 9 games recorded

    - Still no date for the game (release date might be revealed on the next podcast)
    - Ugo Ehiogu likes that Football Manager is released 'finished' and doesn't need a patch...
    - Bit of talk about the 'Dream Team' that help test the game. Bit of praise for them.
    - Miles doesn't agree that it's released 'perfect'
    - Ugo was playing as Everton (and is U16 coach with Spurs in real life now)

    - More talk about Women, Football, Football Manager & Divorce

    - Talk about International Football Week
    - Brief talk about England and Roy Hodgson

    - Brief talk about the average age of Premier League debut being 22/23 when previously it was younger
    - Brief talk about coaching standard in England and St. George's Park
    - Brief talk about how 'difficult' it is to get into coaching in the UK (for the record Miles go here: http://www.thefa.com/GetIntoFootball... a Course.aspx)
    - Miles would like to give a discount code out with FM for those looking to get into coaching but finds the structure of Main FA and County FA's too difficult to work with
    - Coaching and English Mentality to football

    - "Goals changes games"
    - Gerrard's passing range was unbeliavable, but would prefer Michael Carrick
    - Not enough invention with Gerrard, Lampard & Milner in the middle
    - Why isn't Carrick part of the England setup
    - Miles doesn't know Michael Carrick and has never met him

    - Brief talk about stats and team selection

    - Manager reactions to bad results
    - Talk about teams that don't play with strikers
    - "You can do whatever you want to tactically, of course." - Miles on formations and tactics in Football Manager... (in reply to be asking if you can play 4-6-0)- - Miles was unfollowed by Journalists he respects for saying Spain were 'boring' during the Euros

    - #8: If Managers add their own profile pictures in a network game other managers can see those pictures
    - #783: Football Manager Classics' Post Match Screen - Merged the screens together so all the information is on 1 screen
    - #988: Improve the FMc Inbox - Inbox split into two: Personal info in one box, competition news in another.
    - #5: Head of Youth Academy - New Staff Role (Video will be released soon about this)
    - #152: Pre-Season Training Feature - Training Camps (Video next week so don't want to release too much info now)

    - Talk about Gareth Barry & Lee Hendrie requesting plug sockets on the buses so they could play games
    - Footballers playing Football Manager ending up as coaches (article in this month's FourFourTwo strangely enough about this)
    - Ego Ehiogu happy with his stats and would often buy himself

    - More talk about Players becoming Managers
    - 'Instant Respect' for a Manager that used to be a renowned player

    - Chairman hiring Managers for the style of football they want their team to play
    - This is in FM13

    -
    Talk about Michu
    - Watching unknown players on telly then searching for them on FM
    - What is a Trequartista?

    - Impressed with the standard of Championship clubs coming up into the Premier League
    - Discussion on managers attacking and going for it
    - Have to have right players for the tactics
    - Discussion about Swansea, Liverpool, Watford
    - Big job for Brandon Rogers
    - Liverpool Transfer Budget set too high in game (was £6m in-game but could only offer £2m-£3m)
    - Rumour going around that Rogers thought transfer budget was for transfer and not transfer AND wages (heavy emphasis on rumour)
    - "Moneyball"
    - "Boohoohoo for Liverpool" - not many Liverpool fans on the podcast

    - Nigel in the Premier League

    - Zola trickiest player Ugo has ever played against

    - No Update on the German National Team (EA still have the rights)
    - Football Manager Financial Fair Play has been in for a while. AI forces taxes and bills to be paid so clubs cannot dissolve.
    - Pay as You Play contracts: Already in the game - offer them low wage and heavy bonuses
    - Will we ever see FM on a games console again - No. Not on current consoles. Best played on the PC/Laptop.
    - As you go up the league your sponsorship deals increase too
    - New hair styles for Regens/Agents

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout. Presenter Ankur Desai and FM supremo Miles Jacobson team up with a pair of die-hard Gunners, Inbetweeners co-writer Damon Beesley and zonalmarking.net’s Michael Cox, to discuss League Cup schizophrenia, Theo Walcott’s striking ambition and the slow start to this season’s sack race.

We also find out who Jason Batley is and – best of all – Miles reveals the news that FM fans everywhere have been waiting for... the release date for FM13.

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout. Even if we say so ourselves, this week’s podcast is a ‘must listen’ for anyone with an interest in how football works, as we take an in-depth look at one of the most contentious roles in the modern game… the Director of Football.

Joining presenter Ankur Desai and FM supremo to talk about this are the most famous exponent of the role in the English game – Damien Comolli – and the Norwegian TV journalist Lars Siversten. Think you know what a Director of Football does? You don’t… at least not until you’ve listed to this.

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout.

Presenter Ankur Desai is joined by SI's PR man Ciaran Brennan, author and football writer Iain Macintosh (of Football Manager Stole my Life fame) and the legendary Arsenal goalkeeper and broadcaster Bob Wilson. That’s right, there's no Miles Jacobson… at least not until he dials in from a Eurostar train to answer your 'Ask Miles' questions.

As we have one of the English game's most renowned 'keepers in the house, we look at why it is that so few goalkeepers go on to be managers, while also casting our eye over this season's slow-starting managerial merry-go-round and the challenges presented to the modern manager by social media.

Oh, and we also take some time to mention next week's big event... the launch of Football Manager 2013.

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout.

In the first podcast recorded since the launch of Football Manager 2013, presenter Ankur Desai and FM supremo Miles Jacobson are joined by two members of Her Majesty’s loyal football press; Ash Rose of Kick! Magazine and the Mail Online’s world soccer expert, Matt Fortune.

Topics discussed include the rise of ‘non football’, how simply being an international superstar is no longer a guarantee of regular first-team club action, the quickening pace of this season’s managerial merry-go-round (at least in the Championship) and the spooky link between Messi, Ronaldo and their offspring. All this and a chance to win a copy of FM13 too.

From the people that bring you Football Manager, it's the podcast that keeps one eye on the pitch and the other on the dugout.

For our final show of 2012, presenter Ankur Desai and FM supremo Miles Jacobson are joined by two serious FM enthusiasts; the Mirror’s Darren Lewis and comedian Tony Jameson. Between reminiscences of particular FM successes and failures, they manage to take a look back at the managerial goings-on of 2012 and cast a brief eye forward to what we might expect from the next 12 months. Somewhere along the line, they also draw a direct link between Jose Mourinho and Mary Poppins and offer the opportunity to win a copy of the game (and a very special mystery prize). Also, for the first time ever, the podcast is interrupted by a ‘news flash’ as it emerges that Football Manager Handheld has just hit the top of the charts. What a great way to end the year.
