G-Man11
Welcome to the League 1 thread for the 2012/2013 season. Last season saw Charlton run away with the league with an impressive 101 points and Chris Powell's men will be looking forward to championship football next season, Sheffield Wednesday will join them in the championship after securing 2nd place ahead of their bitter rivals Sheffield United despite the exit of Gary Megson midseason. Whilst Huddersfield secured promotion in dramatic fashion by beating the 90 point Blades on penalties in the play-off final. We must also say farewell to Rochdale, Exeter City, Chesterfield and Wycombe Wanderers who will all be playing in League 2 next season, here's hoping they have better seasons next time around. The three teams coming down from the championship this season are Doncaster Rovers, Coventry City and Portsmouth after all suffering torrid seasons last year they will be hoping to bounce straight back. We also must welcome the four newly promoted clubs, Swindon Town, Shrewsbury Town, Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra. G-Man11
New thread \o/ Hope it's more active this year. It better be Still no Chairman (haven't had one since December), no Assistant Manager, under transfer embargo with no end in sight. Now it also turns out we're away for our last and first game of the season, both games over Christmas and in our League Cup tie. Really hating this season already. Carlisle to come a solid 11th.

STFC will rule again
Judging by our first signings for the new season of Gary Roberts from Huddersfield, Andy Williams from Yeovil and James Collins from Shrewsbury, seems like we're going to give getting a second promotion a really good go. Tempted to drive up there tbh, as train ticket searching isn't going great. Yeah funny quirk that Trains are cheaper from Portsmouth than they are from Oxford £54 for us, tempted foreshure. Looking forward to sharing our fantastically awful ownership battle and lots of talk of Floating charges! Definitely open for teams like MK Dons, Notts County and of course the favourites have to be Sheffield United. I hope you can bare with me while I make the transition and not having much of a clue of players in this league I'll be sure to come across as a **** once or twice. G-Man11
Only record in the PL is joint least away wins in a season, which is 0 However we still finished 11 pts above the drop zone due to our awesome home record that season We then sold Robbie Keane to Inter Milan replaced him with Craig Bellamy and went down the following season However we were in the premier league for more seasons than anyone else in this league

Tempted to drive up there tbh, as train ticket searching isn't going great. Don't know if it'd be worth looking at for you, but a couple years ago me and my mates went Carlise and was cheaper for us to get a flight up to Scotland (glasgow I think, but could be wrong) then got a train down from there as was cheaper then a train from London Oh and Bury to start the season? DanielM_90
So far im uninspired by our signings (Orient) and i don't see it getting any better in terms of anything with Slade still here im afraid to say! Heard Symes (Bournemouth) being chucked about to join us! A big striker who when ive seen is not a slouch either and has looked effective. Along with him ive seen Shaun Batt been mentioned! I would possibly cry if we signed him he was on loan at Leyton FC years ago when i played for the youth team there and he was woeful could not finish to save his life and was dire at everything else too and this was Ishtmian Premier level! Granted was a good few years ago and he must of improved but its just put me off him forever. In other news Swindon have made 3 awesome signings today imo! DJB_1990
I went to our fans forum yesterday and apparently our playing budget will be towards the upper end in this league which is good to hear, can't be doing with another season of not being able to compete financially and getting stuffed every week. We just need to move some players on and then we can start building a new and hopefully competent squad. Also the club now controls the stadium and are hoping to actually get it making money for us rather than it making significant losses as it did under council control. This is pretty massive for the club and the new plans put into place now that we have the stadium sounded very positive. The new home shirt was on sale too and it's actually the exact same template as our 2010/11 kit but with a red panel on the back rather than white. Poor from our supplier that, they must only have two different hoops templates. I bought one anyway 'cause I'm an idiot football fan and sense goes out of the window in such situations. Benjani'sBootCleaner
"It's a fixture that I believe the supporters would have been looking out for first with Portsmouth being in such close proximity to Bournemouth" said Groves."There is a rivalry there and I think it's a fantastic fixture and one that heightens the excitement of the beginning of the season and it makes everybody aware of what is ahead of us." Paul Groves on our fixture with Bournemouth. Please note Mr. Groves that I have no negative image of Bournemouth. Just because they are close doesn't mean we are rivals. In fact if we went under and there wasn't another Pompey, I would be watching Bournemouth for a season.

SI Staff Jeroen Thijssen Posted June 20, 2012 SI Staff Share Posted June 20, 2012 Bournemouth have signed Frank Demouge - who has ample experience in the Dutch highest tier. Could be an interesting signing. Pure striker, big of a dirty bugger - but good heading and finishing - as compared to being technically poor and slow. Should fit a traditional English style of play. Odd seeing as they've made a habit of signing good prospects from the non league and selling them on for a profit.
