Well you did call it my friend! Maybe we should change the away kit to add some yellow into the black!

It's nice to see you claim another scalp ;)

Thanks 👍🏻 Always nice to provide a shock. But in all honesty we deserved it. Game plan worked! At home the fortress I would gamble my money on us! Long way from being a European powerhouse tho!

Great result vs BVB, although I must say Rosenborg are putting up a really good fight in the league. You'd have expected to have been out of sight with that points tally by now.

Thanks 👍🏻 Yeah with the massive unbeaten run and only one defeat I would expect to be well clear. A lot of silly draws have cost us with last minute goals. But credit is due to Rosenberg they have matched it!

October 2024

a0fb722ac4837d269908478614d09893.png

The winter looks well on its way in Norway but were off to sunny Spain to take on the yellow of Villarreal to kick start the month. Two home games follow against two mid table sides who like to dominate the ball. The Italian giants AC Milan arrive at fortress Skagerak then it’s a small trip up the coast to stabek just outside Oslo.

header-new-uefa-champions-league.jpg.7a7d18ec7683b0b195d3da51c88928a9.jpg

Odd gave the Spaniards a real good run for their money. A penalty swung the game their way and Odd wasted chances and got caught over committing into the final stages! Plenty positives to be taken from the performance.

2f65fa301cd41e04b3797fc05fe59a6a.png

The youth team had more luck as they destroyed their Spanish counterparts 9-0. Stale is really knocking on the door for more regular game time in the senior side.

Dominated from start to finish in the first league game of the month, A goal from poor defending at a freekick cost us the clean sheet something that’s creeped into our game, so it was time to look at the defensive freekick setups. On the other hand, it was a goal form our freekick that in the end proved to be the winner.

Rosenberg drop points up in the Artic circle a gap appears albeit ridiculously small!

19's take the league title!

d460cce2252ba41ab1c6d139d9258e86.png

Youth production is massive at the club at the recent golden generation leads them into a top title! Stale has had a few first team appearances along with Vindfjell who was from the previous batch. But I think we now have about 6 players who have come through the academy that will soon be ready to challenge.

d0e31b7db20941d02f265745f2220166.png

Big blow to lose Sandberg, He has just won his place back in the side and had started to perform well after a few knocks and no real form. Fortunately, it’s a position that we have good depth in.

Another epic encounter with Lillestrøm, the score line flatters us along with the stats as the first half was one more like the first game awfully close contest with both teams on their game.

Penalty changed the game then a switch to our 343 variant and gave lillestrøm more of the ball in their half and then Odd countered regularly. 5 on the spin at a nice time!

A couple of really good goals in the game as well. but it was this Tonnessen drive after a great passage of play and knock down from young Richardson that takes goal of the month for me.

Big Tobias does the damage against AC. A phenomenal double for him. An incredible result and performance the Italian giants rarely offered much in the game as they feel the wrath of fortress Skagerak. Two goals from set plays a vital weapon in Ole Martin Nesselquist’s armoury.

Another lovely pay day as well to top of the giant killing. You really forget how much money you make at this stage of the competition.

acaeca7d57dc3b5993034bcb21143b1b.png

To many peoples amazement at the halfway stage Odd top their champions league group. Long way to go but its definitely something to be excited about and proves that we are not here to make up the numbers.

bc8b300aff0156657390efaa59164ac3.png

It’s a two horse race people! I would say Rosenborg have a slightly more favourable run in than us.

Stabek were our bogey team up till the last game. Kristiansund and Molde are always challenging. Valerenga have steadied themselves after a poor start and a trip to Oslo is always tough. Sandefjord are having their best season in their short history.

Stromsgodset will be a test for Rosenborg for sure. Fredrikstad have been impressive twice we have played them hopefully they can provide a shock.  Ranheim who gives Rosenborg the Trondheim derby match will be an interesting challenge before Stabek and then impressive lillestrøm who are an old competitive rival.

One thing for sure it’s going to be mighty close!

3277877baecc9023ed6831a6f9c47d1a.png

Massive win to round off a great month! I very tight contest both teams cancelling each other out in the first half. The it became a goal fest in the second. Giving away some amount of penalties at the minute Rossbach can only save so many!

Oscar Aga pops up with a vital goal after a real dry spell to remind Nesselquist he still has a part to play in the title race. Lauritsen heads home another corner he has been the main man this month filling Tjåland boots the big striker having his most productive season since all this fantastic young competition arrived.

8e946e9a609c2bf559e2d9adf479af2c.png

Another month another award! The young man really has become a Norwegian messiah in such a short time. Much like Nagelsmann in Germany. Two vibrant young coaches. Nesselquist already holds records for being the youngest in Norway.

fbcdee54a6ba8ffe13da905505b6d7a7.png

4-point gap 4 games to go! It’s safe to say both teams have had remarkable seasons! It’s the nearest Rosenborg have come to a title since they won it in 2018. Odd are looking for their third consecutive title and have raised the bar this year which is even more testament to Rosenberg who have come from nowhere to match it. An epic title run in awaits next month!

Thanks For Reading See You Next Month

Looking Good! These ODD matches are where "Dauphinais Ball" evolved from. Must always return to where it originated just in case he can find out a new wrinkle that might allow him to join Nesselquist in the Champion's League.

As it stands ODD ball is still the same no real shift from the 3 systems! But it now tends to be the 343 more consistent than the 3412. The 3412 is purely if we come up against a great deep lying playmaker

I dabbled with a 3-5-2 because Liecester used it against a team that used a 4-2-3-1 Wide.

A 3-4-3 with WB's?

My 5-2-1-2 WB and 4-2-3-1Wide generally actually end up looking more like 5-4-1'S or 4-5-1's

The reason I went more defensive was because of Board Objectives.

Also I don't want to be a complete replica of "Nesselquist Ball"

which is why I moved to the 5-2-1-2 WB....and the AI is starting to use my formation against me!

It’s more of a 5-2-3. If we are being official. But to me it’s a 343 WB. The board can sometimes do crazy things. The board just seems to set the culture that suits nesselquist which is ideal. His philosophy has now set the club culture.

The Business End

Exactly what Ole Martin didn't want at the start of the month! The number one ruled out for big games!

Oscar Aga made sure it was the 200th game in management was a good one for Nesselquist. Aga now makes sure he is not forgotten in the title race much like Laurtisten last month! Very tough game which was expected but a big 3 points in the race to the title.

c3f6165e1daca891c35fb0e3ebc12108.png

Sannes joins Rossbach on the injury list again really bad timing to be losing someone who can be a match winner!

Absolutely fantastic as now heading to the San Siro without a recognised goalkeeper as if the task weren’t already hard enough.

It would appear the Italian giants wanted to inflict some damage as revenge, and they did so. Taught a lesson in the San Siro by one of great clubs who certainly know a thing or two about winning this prestigious trophy.

c8715ae5d0fbc8283ce25b6c460c7f07.png

Erling Moe your boys have taken one hell of a beating!

Ole Martin Nesselquist’s best domestic result and performance by some distance. Molde have struggled off late but that means nothing in this league. I great achievement. Laurtisten again showing he still has the fire in his belly as he smashes home a hat trick.

This is a real statement in the title race the two games that were most likely to cause a dent in our hopes are safely navigated and, in the case, done with some style. One more win and the title will head home to Skien!

517ce6a0ed74fd3d352cdcbcbf873c00.png

Well, you guessed it yet another poor draw after dominating throughout a late goal yes, another one kills us! Young Stale blasted us ahead and it looked like party time. The Aga then put us back in front and it really did look party time but poor goalkeeping from young visuri at his near post costs us dearly.

The real Achilles heel of the season shows its head, which means the title race goes down to the last game of the season!

Nesselquist’s jots down in his pad a reminder Conceding from indirect freekicks and late goals "To be addressed"

5a120001f9b603e081d863b83fb544c9.png

What will be a very tense afternoon as everyone hopes and prays for a title party! Hopefully Lillestrøm can do us a favour and turn up against Rosenborg it’s a huge ask but one that we must ask of them.

The Grand Finale

4 minutes in and it was hearts in mouths stuff at the Skagerak Arena as it looked like Sandefjord had raced into an early lead only for the offside flag to rule it out. The whole ground breathed a sigh of relief!

03d7de95547f7fd8be934b8291c34303.gif

On 12 minutes a sweeping counter from Odd makes it 1-0. Sublime pass from Francis and Tjåland does what he does best blasts it home. The crowd erupts as they look on their way to a third title in a row! A draw will win the title as long as Rosenborg don’t score 7 more than lillestrøm.

f63695a38fda872568713a3c53e5e1aa.jpg

Tjåland had one ruled out which was never offside in a month on Sundays! Rosenberg now take the lead as well to increase the pressure on the champions. Fans hooked up to radio stations via headphones are seen all around the ground with concerned faces. A song starts they begin to back their boys to help carry them over the line.

053a41801517ed347e34c18c5c9435b6.jpg

Lasse Nordas heads home at the back post Sandefjord pressure pays off and their level the table is now down to goal difference again the Skagerak tries to rally their troops!

65deed3d68e92fba1b5bc317c81cf3ca.gif

As the game approaches half time Laurtisten decided to push his man at the freekick and it’s a PENALTY TO SANDEJFORD! The Title could slip away!

977c428d9edc8cc1556f24d8761019f7.png

Rosenborg have thrashed Lillestrøm have the giants regained their place at the summit of Norwegian football.

THEY HAVE NOT! ODD BK CHAMPIONS AGAIN!

355865541daf18bab0252ae2341fa11c.gif

SONDRE ROSSBACH IS THE HERO!

Born in Porsgrunn 15 minutes from the Skagerak Arena he is a local hero and will be remembered as a club legend forever. The Norwegian number one has done it again with remarkably his 5th penalty save off the season!

ef8c1500ff512fbbe9c6daca54b69170.png

7d23a91aac148411b68638e0b933683b.png

It doesn't get any tighter than that what a spectacle! Goal difference brings home the title. What a season from both Odd and Rosenborg! It should have been a lot more comfortable and emphatic. late goals a big problem which amounted to draws.

But any other season it would have been more than enough as the record points total for the league is broken!  only one defeat and of course to Rosenborg all season is superb pitty as it would have been legendary to go invincible none the less Nesselquist will settle for the trophy and the record books for a point total! Also 3 years unbeaten at the Skagerak is something of a legendary stat!

Haaland 1-1 Tjåland. It looked like a historic result was on the cards after 8 minutes a beautiful finish from Aga after a quick break up the park looked like Odd had a chance but yet another penalty allowed Haaland to blast past his countrymen and cousins team, Dortmund soon ramped up the gears and, in the end, pushed Odd aside.

Now level with Dortmund on 9 points and ahead of both AC Milan and Villarreal who both sit on 7 points it’s all to play for as we head into the last month of the year!

01c4618ff523f8f43cfecdc2f9ae1e27.png

With the league season over a friendly was required to keep the sharpness in the legs. Not ideal but it’s the best of a bad situation. This is a big problem with the summer league it really doesn’t lend itself to knockout football! The Greek side were beaten 1-0!

dfd6ce4dc4cbc90cdadfa45598d69db1.png

The youth team has set the example as they smash their group! Hammering the young Spaniards twice in doing so!

Abu Francis finishes off a great move down the left to fire Odd into the knockout stages!!!!!!!!

c71abbe1157f519d0ea5a286e476cd29.png

Our home performances and results are truly something else! Ive said It before and ill say it again at our patch we could have anyone on our day. Their is no half measures though as we are beaten three times on the road!

ee52c88ab14fe9c2d0cbf3e38f2561e1.png

As a matter of fact that is a full calendar year unbeaten at home! Phenomenal stuff!

95e28d838fd8c3db598859445dfd5a6e.png

Unbelievable stuff the first time since 1997 a Norwegian team has made it to the knockout stages of the competition the last time was Rosenborg vs Juventus in the quarter final.

This has been an interesting read - been trying to catch up for a while but there’s been a lot to get through!

You’ve had some wild rides to the titles and the progression in Europe has been something! I’ve always been scared to do small country saves - it’s tricky to have a team and tactic that can play progressive one game as big favorites, then turn around and play as underdogs in Europe. Seems like you’re doing a great job of using tactics that retain the style of play even as they change the set up depending on the situation!

Between the Atalanta tactics thread and this one, you’ve been a great resource on using 3 atb!

Glad your enjoying it and that it’s given some tactical inspiration along with reading the Atlanta thread which is definitely my best work to date!

I always keep my core principles at heart no matter the opposition Aggressive high tempo football which I think helps because I don’t bow down to bigger teams I stick to my main plan but have small tweaks. Along with the fact that I like to have 3 forms of attack

My overloaded side where if the opponent doesn’t match us we simply have an extra man to run riot.

my underloaded side which if the opponent matches the overload leaves the other side 1v1 or 2v1

i then have my transitional attack where I encourage the opponent to attack us and play into our high big compact block (LOE + HDL) and when we win it back we have space to attack in behind mainly with the PLAYMAKER finding either the poacher or the PF

i think having that means wether I come up against a favourite or underdog I have enough variation in attack to cause them problems.

Good times! I like the way you break it down.  I've generally used the same idea (one overload side, one more 'open' side etc) and being more aggressive than the opposition, and I have noticed that when I'm overawed by the opposition and try to get too 'defensive', I get thrashed 3 or 5-0.  When I stick to my tactic and just make adjustments instead of wholesale changes things go much better. I still might lose, but at least there's a chance and I've had some famous victories too.

Definitely! I would rather get beat by sticking to my philosophy than change it and then get thrashed trying to park the bus etc. End of the day i recruit players, I train the players, I build the team to play a certain way. So if I then say oh btw were now playing ten men behind the ball and long ball for this game they aren’t going to have a clue how too.

I recently learned a lesson about going all Route One and defensive when on the back foot or down to ten.....especially like you I don't train my players to play that way.....EVER!

Definitely. You don’t see pep or jurgen go away to say Bayern or Barcelona and completely change there style of play. They simply tweak. Maybe add a more defensive minded player of give a player a more defensive task (role change to us) or slight adjust there shape. But the core of there set up remains. Due to the fact salah  won’t make a good target man and Liverpool don’t like to sit off. and City couldn’t play a deep line and concede possession. So it makes sense to me to play the game the same way as real life. After all it’s a simulator that aims to be as real as possible.

A fair number of players moved on. The only player I didn’t really want to sell was Arvidsson who wanted to go as soon as Milan showed interest.

Big shock deal is Laurtisten who arguably had his best season last year moves to China, he deserves a big pay day, and it was time for Moen and Richardson to shine.

Most others were youth players or players that had become back up options that were now being replaced by better signings or younger players with more potential.

3 players arrive and they are all wingbacks! all three are full internationals which is a step up in class.

The young Lithuanian isn’t the finished article but has a lot of the tools already to become a superb RWB. Mentally he if far better than anything we had technically also better physically better but could do with beefing up his passing, strength, and concentration. Great personality as well!

15ae231a8faacaafdc3a8b762ec4805f.jpg

A man I have admired for a long time, tried to get him from Valerenga a few seasons back, he opted for Molde but now he has seen the light. Will battle for the first choice slot. More rounded than the young Lithuanian. Does everything well but no major stand out stuff. Mentally very equipped and proven at our level!

4f8c0f62cb723bc64c17db736a6cb125.jpg

Much like Borchgrevink I have chased this man for a long time!

Ironically like Tonnessen the man he will fight for the LWB role I had both these players when I played as Aalesund a few years back. In that save Tonnessen ended up at Ajax and Bjorkan became my first choice. I wonder if the same could happen here.

Bjorkan has kept the excellent Tonnessen out the Norway side he has now come to take him out the champions side he better be up for a challenge.

The young Dutchman made waves when he left PEC Zwolle for Liverpool as a highly rated ball playing centre back. He now finds himself at the Norwegian champions as he looks to get first team football and kick on and realise his potential. He will challenge Daland for the BPD slot at the left of the back 3.

a1a93692f108056ffd4955565da21cf4.png

Moen returns from his loan spell and will now challenge to be a member of the famous front three. a player in a remarkably similar mould to Aga and will challenge for the poacher slot. Proven goalscorer in the second tier just like Aga and Sannes hopefully he can follow suit. Another clever bit of business from Nesselquist.

d9735200629720125eaa23e4bfb694fc.png

Svendsmark returns after a productive loan spell last season at Ranheim and now will challenge Moi for the midfield destroyer role. This is the reason Innocent was moved on to allow this guy who is incredible mentally and physically wise have a chance to progress and challenge. We now have two wonderful young players for the role and the battle is on!

0ce92d78fa7b25b54f243b2568bf2485.png

Academy product Vindfjell now becomes a full time first team member after a few appearances last season. He now needs to show he can step up to the mark and do a job in the back three when Required still very raw, but he needs game time to take him to the next level!

f04c70dc4b4f99d4afc1af59c202396e.png

Stale Richardson the hottest tipped player to come through the academy during Nesselquist’s reign is now also a full made-up member of the first team. At just 16 he has been learning to play the Pressing forward role and has been immense for the youth team and showed promise as a 15-year-old in the first team last season in his handful of games. He now gets to mix with the big boys full time!

The Academy

While we are at it another golden generation is on its way here we will take a look again at it.

3a7fcf6ed67a418573f0517a281180c2.png

As it stands it doesn’t look to promising a couple of talented boys but nothing at this stage to go crazy about. But as ive learned these players can progress very quickly and outgrow there potential so it’s about keeping eyes on.

0a48b44bd67ce1ec665667b7390f3733.png

Freddy Wagtskjold is definitely the pick of the bunch. Really has something and could fit either of the playmaking or destroyer roles depending on his development. Shipped him off on loan to try beef him up with some first team action at an incredibly young age.

97f42d5239dd908823e0b34d79d738e3.png

Ilja Skrebels half Norwegian half Latvian who also has decent potential, He has a few good stands out stats but will need major work if he is to become a prime creator! Sent on loan to Skied a club famous for producing great talents in Norway the Oslo based club play lower leagues but have a fantastic youth structure in which am sure he will thrive.

End of an era as Asle Andersen departs, A long term servant off Nesselquist who no doubt will be remembered for bringing through Vindjfell and Richardson. But it’s now time to take it up a level with Swedish international Jonas Thern. He has better attributes and suits our formation and has the same personality so it’s a good upgrade and should match our increase in youth setup.

a7da1417bc219213a260c0d85d9b15c0.png

As the youth comes in a legend departs. He now joins them as their coach. 482 league appearances over an 18-year period where he led the oldest team in Norway into battle on so many occasions. Record appearances an incredible servant and a true legend that I don’t think will be surpassed anytime soon.

Favourites to go on and get our 4th title in a row!

Three players in the mix to end up top goalscorer! Tjåland could really kick on and destroy the league if he hits the ground running early!

Interesting that they think the wonderkid will lead the way. He wasn’t very inspiring in living up to his attributes last season and I even considered a loan deal but hopefully they are correct, and he proves me wrong!

No surprises that both the wonderkids are expected to be in the mix for this award!

Looking to make it three in a row in the Mesterfinalen the traditional curtain raiser.

47e7f0ceee3a518d48803c6c00fad9e3.png

The draw am sure everyone has been waiting to see. At this stage there isn't easy ties but considering they just spent 119 million pound on Jude Bellingham I think it shows the gulf in size! Home leg first could be our only hope.

Thanks For Reading!

Abu Francis terrorized Grenoble for a few seasons. I could have bid on him, but he didn't fit my "Profile" so I let him head to Italy.

Hope you have good luck with him like @Carambau is having with Fiete Arp.

Great first season from Francis!

Pre Season

ce8e4c4f65fc4c9cc69bb0f0805a1da2.png

Large pre-season due to the fact we have Chelsea right in the middle of it all! This is a real problem with the summer league. Chelsea is going to be flying into the game and Odd are going to be coming off the back of some heavy fitness work then friendlies. Yes, they build match fitness, but the competitive edge isn’t there. The Mesterfinalen being played between the legs is a bonus and gives us some competitive action.

27006e554ee224e8587594e3c30c5d13.png

A poor preparation for the big champions league tie if am honest. Only winning one of the big games that were designed to prepare us for the game again, it was an issue finding the right calibre of team because they are all playing their league games.

Dominated from the first to last whistle. The blues where a class above, add in match fitness issues and etc and this is what happens. Ole Martin asked the ref at halftime if he could throw another ball on so we could get a touch off it. There were long periods of non-threatening Chelsea possession, but our counter/transitional attack was misfiring and never came up with anything.

The under 19's had more joy than the seniors and coast into the quarter finals, with a big win over that big yellow German team that Odd have become so synonymous with.

aebc4e68d224b4f9fc1c3e2486e2db39.png

It took penalties but nevertheless its three in a row for the oldest team in Norway, who now match the mighty Rosenborg! The new left back shows he likes a man of the match as well as Tonnessen this could be one hell off a battle.

f7f0e6390c59a54ae649b153e62c05d5.png

The 19's are defeated by the 2022/2023 winners no shame in it! A fantastic performance at their level which has so far matched the senior teams incredible run.

Chelsea finishes us off at Stamford Bridge. A sad end to a sublime campaign with some truly memorable results that will go down in history of Norwegian football in Europe. The money Gained is unreal and will set the club up for many many years to come.

Problem is I think Odd have hit there limit here. The power of the big clubs coupled with the time the games are played in our season. It definitely can be done to win it but it’s more like another 10-year plan. I do strive for realism and in all honesty, I think we have now taken Odd to their absolute real life maximum potential

I like to play slow and in depth and watch every game closely which of course slows it all down, add in the fact my job is crazy and can limit playing time for sometimes weeks at a time. it’s now making myself a little board with Odd. This has been my only save since the games release so am thinking possible tactical write up about it then a new challenge.

My original plan was ten years and winning domestic title. Ive done that. Am still undecided whether to carry on. Rosenborg Resurgence last season and the fight they gave us leaves some nagging doubt that we are 100% the top team in Norway right now and a sense of some unfinished business. Am off work on Sunday so will have a chance to get a good chunk of games played, so am going to have a real good think on it and decided if its Odd games. I'm hoping I find my buzz for the save again the next few days

Thanks For Reading

Great read and fantastic progress.

I've played as Tromso for 5 seasons and then moved to Kobenhavn after getting to the semi finals of the Europa League as I also felt I was unlikely to win either of the top two European competitions without some serious time commitment. Denmark offers the advantage of higher wages and a winter league without being top pedigree so I'm hoping for European success there.  The problem is that if you're regularly performing well you're very unlikely to end up in the Europa conference which is probably the most realistic chance of silverware.

A move to an other club in this save could be the better option, because you really worked hard here.

Yeah it’s very frustrating the timing of the games. Eh I tend to be a one club save man. So the game isn’t really set up to go anywhere bigger. Holland is about the biggest playable league so unless Ajax or PSV or Feyenoord came calling not really much option.

I have worked hard which is why I’ve gave myself a few days to ponder my next move

Agree with you on the realism part, though it's been a fun ride. Would you move clubs in the same save or start over?

Like I said to sheriff I tend to be a one club save man I normally do huge research on the club find aspects I love before I settle for the club then build my plan. Am not a journeymen type but am coming round to the idea. Taking my tactics to various leagues. Unfortunately the game database I sent doesn’t suit it this time. I also don’t like the game as much when it’s all regenerated players I need the real ones to still be kicking around. Am still unsure if it’s fully over yet. We will see what tomorrow brings

I think if the games were played in the right part of our season we would have a serious chance purely down our home record. We haven’t been beaten at home in the league since god knows when and last year we done a full calendar year in all competitions unbeaten at home taking some big scalps as well.
