Time will tell! Molde are 20 unbeaten at the minute so there the real team at the minute!

I’ve shared the 352 attacking style. The only PI is More Direct Passes for the RPM.

when I am on later this evening I’ll message you the other system. 👍🏻

September 2023

Tough draw! Will do well to get through this one. All very strong sides, But always back my boys to do well. We do have a good record in Europe and do like a giant killing or two!

466139b3f19d268df02999c61d37452a.png

Only 3 fixtures in the month. I nice international break from August to September allowed us to give the players a week off, unless they played for country. Let them catch there breath before the hectic run in. 3 tough games Valencia away wedged between two must win league games was never going to be easy.

What a game off football for the neutral. Massive two points dropped for us, two goals in the last 10 minutes with the ever reliable Rossbach chucking one in. Madness! The run goes on however its a bitter blow having been 3-1 up with ten to play.

Took the game to them at the Mestalla, three clear cut chances but our strikers never had the shooting boots on! Nearly snatched it at the death. But all in all a superb result and performance.

In the 90th minute, the cross finally gets there from the throw and the keeper saves from Lauritsen to deny us a famous European victory!

f661c7e49266994369463d4b88086270.png

Sandberg Aka Sandy getting on the end of the corner gave us a deserved equaliser. Rønningen with a man of the match display real heartbeat of the side, when he plays well the team plays well!

b9ca4eb832f8dc494b8fe04fdfad1d64.png

Disaster strikers in the following few day off the game! losing our biggest creative force and main man! With some huge games coming up its likely he will miss the Molde & Rosenborg double header next month!

Things go from bad to worse! Our finishing being the real problem here. Making 5 clear cut chances and not finding the net simply isn't good enough. Bad way to loose the unbeaten run also!

With a make or break month coming up Nesselquist's side really need to start winning and winning fast!

eb2d5ff815c4c86fdf6d71692c6d6deb.png

Season defining win keeps the title hopes alive! Much better in front of goal and made our domination of the ball worth it. Henrik Rasmussen set us on our way, then decided to give the ball straight to Bamba to equalise. 40 games unbeaten at the Skagerak in the league unbelievable record.

40c919c3d4bea86b724e315c19e1ff70.gif

Rasmussen with a textbook volley to take the goal of the update! Huge goal in a huge result and done in some style! Becoming a bit of habit him scoring these types the young Dane!

Our first sell out to date as the Toffees are in town! Carlo Ancelotti's men arrive on the back of a 3-2 Merseyside derby defeat.

212cd8adfeedde91b488e1b9c125d061.png

Everton's deadly counter attacking destroyed Nesselquist's men! premier league side dismantled the home side on three occasions after being under heavy pressure.

61e4dbfbe6146bae339317cb7a8a5517.png

really disappointing result against ten men for 20 minutes. XG of 2.06 Tjåland and Aga missing big chances cost yet again another valuable 2 points. Going into the Rosenborg game it was key to take all 3 here!

f631a6855c3ecb196be05bc9873a5fc4.png

A point gained rather than lost I would say, Rosenborg about shaded it but in truth it was a poor game of football both teams cancelling each other out. This result work due to the fact Molde dropped two points too Sandnes Ulf.

uefa_europa_league_00.jpg.d3baf14cfb9d3bec1f154e6b89dea8e9.jpg

Nesselquist's side record a famous victory at the Skagerak Arena as the annihilate Turkish giants Fenerbahce! Nesselquist's men showed they can more than mix it at this level! A result that the fans will saviour for sometime! Now at the halfway stage Odd have given themselves every chance of qualifying, but there is still a big task at hand.

5f25624ab9f24bd7b8063e93cfb5304f.png

In the league things heat up! Draws have definitely cost us especially recently but only 4 points off the pace. Molde & Rosenborg have stuttered of late which has kept things alive. Kristiansund are the form team and there up next a real SixPointer dare I say it!

fcab631ae7aedb40aea60ef26d2cef34.png

I highly polished showing secures us the big win needed! Couple of great goals as well both that have become key in our system! Sannes goal is our overloads paying off. Reitan is just another example of our wings backs getting on the scoresheet!

2cf884eeb32df82eb84224ba01032abe.png

It really was a SIXPOINTER! Molde drop 2 points and Rosenborg loose all 3 points! Massive round of games in what is a sensational title race!

23ff2bd2cbea7dcd4d3c6b6fa130844e.png

Nesselquist takes the month with only a 50% win rate, The league is really tightening!

b83caf6d826e0e7ab95990a302f3319d.png

In the month defence and attacking is balanced nicely. Normally the best defence in the league by some way but, This year other team have caught on to that idea. I do always say you need a good defence to win titles, maybe people are following Nesselquist who ironically has went more attacking this year.

cf5edef12bafd85f396fc83a6ec0ff74.png

Some great news as Rønningen returns just as the business end of the season arrives! Under 19 football will hopefully get the match fitness quick!

A leave you with the table, in what is becoming the most exciting title running in years in Norway's top flight!

November 2023

1cb3eab513fe2f2202a27cc5d26ab336.png

Throw back to Nesselquist's sides solid defensive displays, Ranheim made Odd work for there win. Unfortunately Molde came from behind to win 4-1. Performance and result is spot on especially the clean sheet. Lowering the tempo of his side proved clinical for Nesselquist something he would carry on.

uefa_europa_league_00.jpg.7c8c37350f1de27cd27394ad73a7c18b.jpg

b5454df6a682a02d720a089ce180d810.png

Another huge result in Europe. Showing that the home game was no fluke against Fenerbahce. Dominating from start to finish on there own patch. The goal coming from a corner our set plays still proving to be vital! How it finished 1-0 is beyond me passing up 7 clear cut chances!

36b88d5a20d3ba8b2e328da1bcd7d524.png

A huge opportunity a Molde slip up away to Stabek The title now shifts into being in Odd's own hands!

642e25e1374860cf897e311c3865dc48.png

f1574f3abb82e69fdcddbdb46b1cc036.png

Massive victory to head to the top! Coming from behind to real character. Gronli is keeping Rønningen out the side with these magical displays, He done the same thing last season after Rønningen was out injured. Daland getting on the end of his freekick swung the game into Odd's favour and in the end it was a comfortable win. Rosenborg and Bodo fall out of the race!

9672db14c79eb6099717c63ac4ef9ea9.png

Sandberg at the heart of the defence at a real bad time, But there is good cover club captain Hagen at the ripe old age of 37 has still performed when called upon.

4a52ff2600c9ffd9dcf431f575f1bf41.jpg

Two goals in 20 minutes shocked the home side! Then Nesselquist's men battered down the hatches and kept a clean sheet, Captain Hagen led the way on that front with his man of the match display. Again flashes of the Nesselquist side from last season albeit Rossbach did have to make some real world class saves.

968545260cb15aac9c75b10b3e104ab6.png

Molde match the result, So it will go down to the last game of the season! Any slip up will no doubt be pounced upon. Up first the small task of Valencia at home to secure knock out Europa League football.

uefa_europa_league_00.jpg.7c8c37350f1de27cd27394ad73a7c18b.jpg

cd364618612df9f6525494b3581f1b35.jpg

Another famous victory, In fact its more of a habit now. Odd really are more than capable at this level, Valencia simply couldn't break them down due to a solid defence and a fluid attack that exploited there gung-ho left wing back all game. Odd now reach knock out football for the second campaign in a row!

81ba71381924fcdda302143fc3f2ede2.png

Back to back months for Nesselquist! His team are playing incredible at the minute!

b6f3d71820f92182240540660ba97ec5.png

After a few good intakes with at least one player already on the edge of first team football. The HOYD now informs Nesselquist that he feels a real golden generation is on its way! Reinvestment of player sales who came from the academy is now paying off.

December 2023

239deaf715d8bdf2cc841e0323cd26db.png

It all comes down to this, A big trip to Bergen to face Brann for Odd and Molde travel to Stavanger to take on Viking. Both games played on Norway's west cost 132 miles apart means the helicopter wont have far to fly with the trophy. Its advantage Odd at kick off!

The Finale

7ed306304071492fd07de09e5f8fb908.png

5 minutes on the clock and Molde trail 1-0 from the penalty spot! not the start they had in mind at all. The word quickly spreads to Bergen of the Viking goal.

3ad2927f5ac6a8885c8be481dc29c0c9.png

Odd a here of the score line in Stavanger, but on 7 minutes Brann's early domination pays off as they race into a 1-0 lead with a thunderous drive! Both sides now trail in there biggest game of the season. who will make the comeback!

44101dcdfda09562a97c5afb6d7a01d6.png

Molde leave it very late!!! But they snatch the win needed to crown them Champions of Norway!!! 90+3 minutes. They have done there job but......

114de4d37b0a714e55085cd16d7b65f2.png

ODD DO THERE JOB!

Its back to back league titles for Ole Martin Nesselquist and his men! Two first half goals got them ahead! But captain Steffen Hagen heading home from Gronli's corner really set the party alight! When Rønningen came off the bench to fire home a 4th on 87 the helicopter landed in Bergen!

ODD BK ELITESERIEN CHAMPIONS 2023

10c1f3828c5baab6fa0345c383b11cb8.png

Ole martin what a game, what a day, what a season! How are you feeling?

"My nerves are shot, complete rollercoaster of emotions out there today"

You must be proud of your boys today?

"Immensely proud! Hearing Molde go behind for us to do the same thing minutes later could easily allowed us to lose our focus completely, but the boys rolled the sleeves up and showed the character needed to win these titles"

12fbd1117cb341c48955ee2af07c5559.png

30 year old and now with back to back titles and doubles, Ole after securing the first one in the clubs history can you sustain this incredible progress?

"I think towards the end of the season the last ten games we really showed why we are champions with our never say die attitude i think when you have that anything is possible. there was a point we looked out of the race but again the boys took my message on board and rallied to win the title"

b4c81cd95c0c625e7d28c2aa992b439d.png

Some people will say Molde threw the league away?

"no doubt Molde lost big games at bad times, One game being against us! They could have buried our hopes but again we showed our metal, it was incredible the title race but with our form at the tail end of the season the pressure told on Molde, Without that reassure they win the league so we again showed why we are champions"

Tactically Ole we seen you switch to 3 forwards in the midway point and it really turned things for you is this now what we will see going forward or can we expect more change?

"I think in this day and age we have to be tactically flexible and being able to adapt to any situation, we lacked creating real chances last season and the first half of this season so it was clear we needed to loosen the reigns a little bit and sacrifice a little of our solid defence clean sheets are great but with no goals they only mean 1 point"

037064e892d44f66c9508c982dfe6575.png

a chance of Champions league football next season Ole what is the realistic goal there?

"I think we have to qualify for the group stage, coming so close this season the natural progression is to go one more, I think everyone can now see from our Europa league performances and results we are more than capable"

Thanks for your team Ole as always a pleasure speaking to you.

Sigurd Gronli highlights himself on the European stage with a phenomenal 10/10 display getting a hatrick at Goodison park, Including two absolute wondergoals! Odd yet again showing they have what it takes at this level, fighting from behind to to take the lead being pegged back twice but taking all 3 points in the end to top the group.

6ad8b36578ae72f471ad460ff03b93c5.gif

Hands down the goal of the season! Nice through ball down the channel from Rønningen, Egell with a lovely cross and Gronli smashes home a volley famous Evertonian Wayne Rooney would be proud off!

Billed as a tough group its is some feat to qualify never mind finish top! Now the issue is our season finishes and the next game is played in pre season.

Thanks for reading!

Another title in the bag. ill be back with my usual end of season detailed analysis next. Hope you enjoyed that season as much as me!

Congratulations on the Double!

Too bad the European Dream may never come to Fruition due to the fact you  play the knockouts in Preseason.

Also, It is always good to mimic success because "Nesselquist Ball" is now in Grenoble!

Award Night

9a8417a44c9a90297927e3e5a62c691b.png

The manager topped 3 months through out the season followed by his second consecutive coach of the year! Nice to see the young tactician recognised again for his sublime work. Big turning point in his season opting to go for a 3 man frontline.

a826447b48680044811472973fa6fb64.png

Great season for Sannes who played all 3 roles across the front now seen as a complete forward. He takes home the fans and young player of the year and to round it all off he finished top goal scorer knocking Aga of his perch.

Young Olsen is the signing of the season. considering he only came into the fold when Grogaard left, I think that shows you how good his displays were.

fc745686ae4fe24693d4b162254dc7a5.gif

Lauritsen takes goal of the season, Defending the corner then breaking up the park, beating men before slotting home. Its a great goal but for me its not a patch on Gronli's volley at Everton.

Filip Rønningen Jorgensen is the assist king! Another remarkable season creatively for the young man! Real talisman of Odd someone say the Jack Grealish of these parts!

2cb86e78a69cb92bdf500e3e926d2955.png

A good few records broken. Sannes breaks the record for league goals in a season, Tonnessen breaks his own record of man of the matches and Club legend and Captain Hagen takes two records Most league appearances of 454 what an achievement and the oldest goalscorer!

1a0f6d880d4b376b80a440874705bba9.png

4fdb4b37a6a4f265ee8423af8c2cea74.png

e3013bd7f18cacb1ed2e8d50bcddfe6e.png

Clean sweep for Sannes! Player of the year, Players player of the year and Breakthrough of the season which he beat teammate Rønningen too. Incredible season for the young man! To think he arrived from lillestrøm with little reputation he really has smashed it out the park.

878ffff22a72aaed429131696e23fcbe.png

Rossbach and Tonnessen make the Norwegian team of the year for the second year running! Testament to how consistently good they perform. Tonnessen should really be getting a shot in the international side.

41ad1b3d8e7a3b4502ce2d6ec9250b89.png

League winning medals are handed out! With the quota of ten appearances a few miss out. But mostly the younger lads. Hagen gets his second winners medal! He hasn't said he will retire yet but 37 I think its looming large. He did however have a fine season and always performed when called upon and got some important goals along with performance in the last 5 games of the season.

League Stats

65d0e5cdf23298bec04d3d1c8924491a.png

Final table makes great reading! Molde and Kristiansund qualify for Europe conference league on there league position. Stromsgodset qualify after winning the Cupen. As always its great to see the mighty Rosenborg failing!!

Sandnes Ulf and Sogndal drop straight back into the Obos Ligaen, Viking who have been hovering above the drop have finally succumb to there fate.

6f1972bd193a42ec3a9ab2210b658817.png

They will be replaced by Tromso who bounce back again first time of asking and Sandefjord who spent two years below. Lillestrøm finally return after 4 seasons out the top flight. Big cub returns much like Fredrikstad did last season.

2ac67b08e2e2c07019c94fba8fd002e3.png

af1c5a1bec38963a455ae52d421c7455.png

Another unbeaten season at the Skagerak Arena! What a fortress she has become. Although it wasn't as impressive as last season, more draws and more goals conceded. last year was scary though only one goal conceded. Interestingly our away form picked up once a big problem that is now two seasons in a row we top the table in away performance.

The Analysts Corner

96378d049178eabfcf82171128ab3020.png

Smashed the expected goals again, incredible scoring more than 20. Only -1 on the XGA though! +16 on the points and in the end its points that make prizes!

594c440a710c2c2d9c41425c6eea97e2.png

4715d7c2336e16fa44cb96e2fb711032.png

In the end its a nice balance between being defensive efficient and attacking efficient. Losing the best defensive efficiency is tough after leading the way but, was necessary in order to win league as we struggled for a long period attacking wise.

League Team Stats

1a3d70bc5a68b0c7fe06aad9b5b5b3b3.png

Crossing clearly became a big part of our game. Naturally with having 3 men up top it would get a boost as the wide striker would now chip in with some crosses. While the opposite striker attacking the back post would clearly help the completion.

59d88ebfe02b3fbedbf9751e6232ee2e.png

6f1084c3c5cf92ba7fbf44b1c479938c.png

I don't see us as possession side, But we really are starting to look after the ball a lot better. Still looking to attack space left in behind but the deference being now instead of looking to sit deep and counter, we keep the ball and draw the team out then hit them. Either through the overload switch or good old fashioned wing play.

d246d62515a74d3e44003d5da3fee2c9.png

My Favourite stats of the season! Last year clear cut chances were hard to come by. 85 this year blowing the competition away. having 3 forwards strategically placed of course helps and playmakers and wing backs who can deliver it to them. Throw in that shots on target again a issue last year has took a massive jump makes me chuffed that things did work.

ca1be868567382f83ef31b220efaf7c5.png

473791a9d3d32fd400320ffe3c29e50e.png

I have stated I felt the defence was weakened with the 3 up top. But in reality our defensive set up from corners is still great, and the clean sheets still flow and Molde only conceded one less than us. Maybe we just do have the perfect balance. Tackles dropped massively but if we have the ball more then we clearly aren't going to need to tackle as much.

Molde clearly the Man United of Norway when it comes to penalties! 10 compared to our 1!

Player league Stats

4th top scorer in the league for Sannes but right up there for average minutes. More games would possibly seen him battle Bamba and Sivertsen for top spot!

Challenged Rønningen two seasons ago to become our creative hub. And two years in a row he has proved it even more so this year taking it to another level! Tonnessen who was this season more on the overload side rather than the striking side gets another really creative season under his belt. Gronli who covers for or switches with Rønningen is also pushing him all the way in that role!

Squad Analysis

As we are about to enter into the 5th season, ill take a in depth look at the squad. How they performed and how there attributes are looking. Just so people can see how my squad building is going. I think players may move on this season so gives people an idea of the squad.

Strike Force

51d0599f60c64d10ebdfbbfe060b4dd6.png

Easy to see why Sannes(21) swooped the season, 19 goals at 13 assists 32 direct involvements in goals. Big sides are starting to take notice of the forward so task will be holding onto him but of course every player has there value.

(Sannes)

07420166160bfa3ecd1e85ec5b69f396.png

Aga(22) the poacher as ever 16 goals 0 assists a real fox in the box. He only wants to find the net and with the highest percentage of hitting the target and almost outscoring his XG by double he is a master finisher! His value is finally reaching his performance and there is some interest but I think we can hold onto him.

Rasmussen(18) and Tjåland(19) have nice returns in the first full seasons. The future looks bright with these 2. Strangely to this point there hasn't been much notice from other clubs. New long term deals will be top of the list for Nesselquist. These two could become a lethal front pairing once it clicks with them. Rasmussen capable of the spectacular, with his technical skills and flair he is very much a Bergkamp type. Where as Tjåland is more like his cousin more machine than man just a ruthless athlete with the mindset to match his technical continue to grow and hell be  superstar needs to take more chances.

Lauritsen(26) struggled for a run in the team due to fitness at the early part of the season and couldn't break in, but found his feet in the last ten games and was pivotal to the great end of the season showing it helps to have been around the block a little more when it comes to the business end. I envisage him being here for the rest of his career there was interest last season but it has faded in time. He has been a big part of Nesselquist's tenure so far.

(Lauritsen)

Aas with 5 goals in a season. He was always going to feel the effect of going 3 up front for the majority of the season as his role in the number 10 became redundant unless needed for specific games. A few teams will have noticed his game time dropping and have started to show interest.

(Aas)

Playmakers

f01c1a92e3469de01937a10e098abeea.png

Both players take corners which helps massively, but both are capable of the killer switch or a nice slide rule pass. Both are the real heartbeat of the team when they play well the side does. So much so am considering a dual playmaker tactic to fill our final slot next season. Problem being it will be one hell of a battle to keep them this season with Chinese billionaires lurking and a few of Europe's top teams.

Tonnessen sets the standard again on the flanks. 14 assists from him 8 player of the match just ludicrous performances. He really should be on the international scene. Really continues to out perform his attributes. Reitan and Johnsen combined to beat his output but have way more games and when you add Olsen it swings back to the left.

(Tonnessen)

336a891d070bb3a580a321f7cd8cd685.png

Solid second season for Reitan a couple of important goals as well. Now being the more attacking flank rather than the build up one has seen some blistering runs down the flank. Good solid pro and continues to apply himself well. Less assists but more goals expected when switching from the overloaded side.

(Reitan)

dde4d2f303c87a10a9360c9af3fd87e7.png

Egell-Johnsen turns in great season as he grows more into the attacking side of his game. More goals and more assists from the academy produce another one who really out preforms his attributes. Needs to try cement the RWB slot and shove Reitan out the way. At the minute there neck and neck. A few clubs are starting to look at him now so a new deal is in order.

(Egell-Johnsen)

e46a8fe8db23c2d5f16452afe52fe8e8.png

Young Olsen grabbed his chance with two hands, Originally out on loan he came back in when Grogaard left. Him and Stokke will be up against each other for the second LWB slot but, going by his early showings he looks front runner. Very surprised Rosenberg let him go. Does need to improve if he is to challenge the superb Tonnessen.

The Anchors

The midfield destroyers, nothing flashy just the simple things done well. Interestingly Sorensen out performs Innocent this year. I do however think Nino Moi will make the slot his own next season he has to much talent not too. Sorensen has interest from Holland so he may leave.

The Defence

93dc588f76955c0f41d83958d7290ed4.png

All very consistent at the back! The main back 3 consisted of Heggheim CD(c) , Sandberg CD(s), Daland BPD(C)

Great first season for Heggheim after failing at Bodo he has come here and done himself proud, Really superb tackler and great reader of the game. The Arial side of his game has really improved as well. If he can get his ball playing in order he will be come a complete CB.

(Heggheim)

Debut season for the young talented Almir Omerovic went well. Stepped in and done really well if called upon. Great in the air and a real athlete he is destined for great things. His work with Hagen is starting to shape him into a younger version of the great man.

(Omerovic)

3cf238deb5fd665244d4ce0ab4b1cf7a.png

Daland is a fantastic reader of the game, backed with his great speed and athleticism he is real weapon and being the last man on the cover or chasing down a wide man. Not surprised to see a lower tackle percentage but the fact he has 7 key tackles does. Not known for being a good tackler but his acceleration often gets him out of trouble on the last man.

(Daland)

Mr Odd is in the twilight of his career, But Hagen continues to lead the team on and off the pitch. His work on the training ground and is immense. Stepped in and played some big games with big performances much like Lauritsen in the key business end games. Will 100% go on to coach at the club but I think he may have one more season.

(Hagen)

Sandy is a real old school defender at heart, Throws himself into everything. 217 headers attempted 51% won isn't great but as the stopper he is flying out to win them. his tackling is a real highlight often break play in front of the box all in all I think he is the best defender in the purest sense willing to put his body on the line for his team mates. The next club captain I would say.

Shot Stoppers

Rossbach is our number one end of story god he is Norway's as well. But young Hetle is not to be shunned to the side. Am surprised he has remained happy as backup with his ability could easily be first choice somewhere else maybe he knows learning with Rossbach is only helping long term. Rossbach as fell under the radar of bigger clubs am now hoping he becomes a one club man and gets the legend status he deserves.

Small Tactical Analysis

ef6951075ea3a3e640bced645922143f.png

60% of the time 5-2-3 was our main tactic. I think bar a game here or there after the change this was used. Interestingly the 5-3-2 produced a better clear cut chances ratio but I would put that down to it being more tight at the back.

02be56ae438cff46affb5f244f437f32.png

Placed shots are our speciality, Headers are the much needed variety in the play, but we very much score all our goals centrally in the box. The 10 goals from the right side is from the overloaded left on this system which drags the defence over and leaves a player on the right side 1v1. I would assume the 5 goals are from the opposite overload on our 5-3-2 system.

602585266f5bb9257ebdd9d5b801487e.png

Assists are a lot more varied this season in terms of location. With 3 up top its understandable why there is more assists in the penalty box but also it plays a big part in the wide assists.

Out numbering the centre backs often means full backs mark them. When our wingbacks attack the forward draws to this side and overloads the fullback leaving the wing backs with often a clear run to the byline or to hit a early cross which often finds the extra forward coasting in at the back post. Its a great ploy especially against narrow systems.

The first time I have ever used a flat front 3 and this was my biggest highlight off it was that typical overload I described, another one was using the outside forwards to man mark opposition fullback totally suffocates them a issue that cost us a lot in the 532 system was attacking full backs.

Set plays safe to say ive mastered the art of attacking with them! they numbers don't take into account the short throw that works so well also, but i suppose that falls under the category of the high cross numbers also. Freekick, corner and throw all deadly. I don't get angry when a cross is blocked now as it presents an opportunity of a goal.

Would love to work on square balls but its not our style of play, Much prefer the through ball route and attacking space in behind.

e03f6330b78bea7aca2b3a23d4b36ccc.png

More evidence of the left hand overload and the 1v1 on the right working, am sure if you look back you'll see a few goals from the RWB's who had been left 1v1. Centre backs with 16 goals between them is just another bi product of the excellent set piece routines.

I feel now I have two really solid systems I need to find one more next season to give us that mark of a super system where all 3 can be used throughout the season situation dependant and give you the variety in every performance.

Thanks for reading as always! See you next season!

That's a very in-depth analysis. Great stuff, although too much for my little brain to digest

I like to try share as much of possible in how I play the game. Especially tactically. As well as having a good update story. Once I get my final tactic to complete the system. I’ll write about it in great depth over on the tactics page. Maybe you shouldn’t read it tho 😆

It's good and I enjoy your story and updates. I like the squad review, that really adds depth for me. The tactical stuff is great, but you're right - I won't be going anywhere near the tactics page :)

It's impressive and gives great depth. I'm probably just a bit more simple than people like you and @warlock and not smart enough to dissect it the way you have. That's a self criticism of myself, and certainly no negative on what is a great story. I'll try harder to understand it all - assuming you haven't departed after your board disagreement

Not sure you could be much simpler than me . I never do the kind of analysis that @SixPointerdoes, which is why I like to read about it. And I like to read about other manager's tactics so I can see what works and steal their best ideas

Just caught up, great job in winning the league again! and even more impressive to top what looked like a very hard group in Europe.

And what a goal by Gronli! Glad to see him doing well, easily one of my favorite players from FM20, although I haven't yet managed him in the new edition.

Thanks mate! Yeah was a tough group!! Don’t think we are ready to challenge for the trophy yet but a home draw is vital for us. At our park I think we beat anyone.

don’t talk to me about gronli! He took the huff in the summer and wouldn’t sign a new deal!

Oh damn that sucks! This is the issue with managing clubs in these leagues, the players keep kicking up a fuss every now & then and want to leave. Often they move to clubs in the so-called bigger leagues, but really rubbish teams.

On my last Russian save, the way I dealt with it was to be pre-emptive and sign a new contract with the 4-5 players who were the core of my team literally every year. After each contract they are generally satisfied for 6-12 months and don't want to move. Often if you offer the contract once there are clubs already showing interest, they don't want to renew.

I had taking a similar plan! But was caught up in the title race! And all but two signed new deals at the end of the season due to interest. The season previous I got them all in on deals and even when I read there concerns thinking of leaving for bigger club I get the contracts out. But the title run took my eye off it. Anyway writing up today so you’ll see how it panned out!

Transfer Special

retina_thumb_Varden_logo.jpg.23d8efbcedad2fd5a5d30206fe2f026d.jpg

Ole Martin Nesselquist enters his 5th at the helm of Odd. Its became clear that Ole Martin likes to bring players to the club from other Norwegian clubs and later Sweden and Denmark. Most are younger players who he develops or simply gives them a chance in the top division.

There have been some great examples down the years for instance Aga, Tonnessen, Sannes, Sandberg, Daland and Gronli to name a few were all brought to the club from the league below and given a platform to prove themselves and all excelled under Ole Martin's guidance.

You then have the likes of Tjåland, Rasmussen, Omerovic and Newsiest member Nino Moi who are really highly rated prospects, who needed their chance to step up to a first team, again Ole showing he is more than willing to give talent a chance gave them it and they have repaid him by playing their part in two title victories.

This transfer strategy coupled with trying to keep his biggest assets from the academy at the club until a fair price is made has severed him well. If academy products leave, the club re invests into the infrastructure which helped produce them, Kitolano made for PSG a few years back probably the highest profile of this kind of sale. but with Kaasa, Hoff, and Odin Bjørtuft who made for china. However, there was one player who Ole Martin would be determined to hold onto at all cost.

Flip Rønningen Jorgensen was 17-year-old when Ole Martin arrived at Odd, ole recognised the talent immediately and gave him his chance the season after Ole began to build his whole team around the talented young man. Rønningen prospered and became arguably one of the best players in Norway. In many interviews he puts this down to Ole Martins methods and faith in him.

8ed9299536746e3f3ee7081b398c8363.png

"The board told me that they had accepted a substantial bid for Rønningen and of course you plead with them. No one wants their best players leaving the club, but in the end of the day no one is bigger than the club myself included, so you have to listen to the board and think of the long term for the club"

"Of course if Rønningen decides its right for him I will respect his decision it will be life changing for him, but I of course believe he could be a top player in Europe also"

be620ccaff4b128325549ca64f0ff022.png

In the end my moaning and groaning only got us a larger fee! Which becomes a Norwegian record, so I have to accept the boards thinking

It goes without saying that money would be invested back into the club from the sale of the prized player.

"Yeah am delighted that the board continue to reinvest the money it our facilities, its the only way to secure long term success. it makes the sales of class players easier to take when the board is backing trying to produce the next one"

50ed8722e5f6368d41328fc576dad5e7.png

Well this was a certainty to happen. The only player who wouldn't sign a new deal. The man all set to step into Rønningens void was also being chased. Most Chinese clubs refused the 10 million asking price. It looked like Gronli was staying. Needless to say he was unhappy now.

Sigurd Gronli rejects Feyenoord!

Its reported that there has now been a big falling out between Ole Martin Nesselquist and Gronli. Dragging his his heels and rejecting contract talks but also refusing such opportunities has now enraged Ole Martin and Gronli is rumoured to be training with Odd under 19's.

its rumoured now that Sevilla and Al-Ittihad will battle it out for the outcast!

A nasty injury but the deal has been accepted, The medical now may scupper Gronli's move away from the club. Leaving him with a broken relationship with his manager and possibly no way out!

Quite a period there, lots of drama. It's naturally a big blow to lose your star man and the likely heir to his throne, but that's a massive amount of money and most of it has gone back in to the club. I'm sure you will not be derailed by this, in fact I will tip you to take the title in the coming season. One might say 'Odder things have happened'....

Rønningen I had the vison of the team being built around him for the duration of the save. So that was a blow and tough to swallow. But when I seen the record fee its made total sense. I strive for realism in my games so much and simply put to reject that would be unrealistic. Then they agreed to my facilities which is my philosophy so that was me sorted. step Aas into the RPM back up and SS first choice. when we alternate. job done.

then the Gronli saga begins, This was me at my melting point! I actually got to the point where I offered him away cause he frustrated me that much. But again the money and the realism factor comes into it. So rather than let it get to me i pushed on through. so panic over Odd Ole martin is still at the club,

today will be filled with lots of small updates to get us up to date.

hope your correct title always remains my main aim but I would be lying if I said I didn't have one eye on the champions league group stage.

Pre Season 2024

b1a14bd22288d6fe4c53ab3cd9fc47ae.png

Very mixed pre season. but mainly used to get everyone fit and a few small tactical tweaks ironed out on our two systems.

d38c4acda6ebf78b37ae6ac062ef4c19.png

The 343 now our main system. Has one only change is shifting to attacking! after looking at last seasons numbers possession was high and although leading the way by some distance on clear cut chances I think ill tinker with being more aggressive with it. I have a variation to it that id like to share with you.

23e00578080ca37d470813d0bd7febc5.png

I spoke the end of last season how using the outside forwards to shut down teams who use the flanks. This is exactly how I switch up my main system to do so. By switching two striker roles and two centre midfield roles. Adjusting some duties as well. block the flanks overload the middle exploit there flanks. Its great against teams who play 442/352. This is just a quick in game switch if I notice the flanks are being over powered.

b2c5baa5bde934855c99c6267fbe4768.png

Odd ball the original league winning system remains unchanged. Mainly used against teams with a DM. Using the shadow striker to cause havoc for him especially if he is a playmaker. Say in a 4123. Making his job a lot more difficult.

274a8f3523bd8e60598e8bf8b6a5ddf1.png

Final system of the 3. Its a bit of a work in progress. Its for when teams come at us with a really good player in the AMC slot. I think once its complete it could become a good weapon against 4231. Especially in Europe as teams come with great number tens.

41227b560566c46f7e7ca67b406e0be1.png

While tactics are being talked. Board recognising how deadly our set plays are.

Golden Generation you say? Best player is a winger huh. Couldn't have been a nice playmaker.

b6f61c1df7e0a04ddd49fda0e1954be7.jpg

Looks a real talent! 15 years of age and he lit up green. Pace needs work so does finishing if he is to transform into a striker. But on the whole he has some very nice attributes. Toyed with the idea of training him as Wing back but for the time being its a striker.

03ff6cc5993e056c5345a9210caa6639.jpg

Not sure what the buzz about him is, Nice physicals. But in my experience some can be late bloomers.

90be66c0aa9f47b231e18fd3e13795fb.jpg

More like it here. Some stand out attributes but again like Stale hard to pin down what he can become for the side. Possibly train as shadow striker. Time will tell but promising signs are there.

e0d0bbd118141f1de23ec116f6679c09.jpg

Last one on the list, At least has a position that he can be shaped on. hardworking but will need mentoring for sure. On the whole a good intake of youth players and with facilities again being upgraded hopefully it will only get better.

Cupen winners Vs league winners in the now traditional curtain raiser. Nice way to start the competitive football calendar. The side show to the final will be that Ole Martin is interested in Johan Hove to sign in the centre of the pitch.

Shakhtar is tough, but certainly not the toughest and at this stage there all good teams. Issue is away game first but the showing at Goodison shows it might not be too big an issue. I think it being played after only two games of competitive football will be the real problem.

8cbec910ec597a96dd6532b7ff50c654.png

March now looks like this. Aalesund up first in the league, the city I sit in as I write this today. Good record against them. Then two really big away trips. Stromsgodset who always give us a game throw into the fact Shakhtar is lodged between the games and it’s a really tough fixture. Same can be said for the trip to Bergen to play Brann.

Tight game, two goals in a matter of seconds of each other. The trophy was settled from the spot and Odd kept their nerve to win back-to-back Mesterfinalen. Johan Hove missed his penalty, but he was the standout performer for stromsgodset. Ole Martin looks to make his move.

Dream start to the league 10/10 performance. Deciding to sit off Aalesund, who always top the possession stats and allowing them the ball in their half was key. Hitting in behind them and taking the chances was key winning on the opening day.

Big blow losing Sandy before the Shakhtar game but a chance for someone to step up to the plate and stake a claim.

Journey and a half! I can’t see many Odd fans travelling, they don't really travel up to Bodo and Tromso.

Nesselquist to Groningen?

Not the headline fans and players would like to see on the morning of a huge away day in Europe. Rumour has it Nesselquist is to be interviewed for the job in Holland. He assures his players he is going nowhere but actions speak louder than words.

Mistakes cost us dearly. didn't defend the second ball from a corner. Second goal is a wonder goal, Tjåland pull one back which would have been a good result to take back to the Skagerak Arena. Then Rasmussen gifted the ball away in the 87th minute and again Shakhtar punished. Big ask to turn it around!

Couple of bad ones in the first month of the season.

The fans travelled one and half hours up the road to Drammen in big numbers and after 10 minutes their journey was rewarded as Odd raced into a 2-0 lead. Hove set up the goal for Stromsgodset and the scorer then got sent off minutes later.

Tjåland made it 3-1 before the break with the goal of the month well worked freekick to the back post. The 3 points were secured, Another huge result.

Two days after the game Johan Hove signs on the dotted line for Odd, as Nesselquist looks to replace Rønningen and Gronli. 3 million for this calibre of player is shrewd business, in the last 5 years he has established himself stromsgodset and became a key player. Definitely has the attributes and traits to fill at least part of the gap left, very well rounded there is an element of Rønningen to his game.

Huffed and puffed, but simply couldn't get the better of Roman Burki who was in terrific form. Three clear cut chances but didn't have the composure to take them. The clean sheet is about the only plus to take from the tie. Timing is huge in these games and with not having much competitive football under our belt its tough as the team is still settling especially after two big sales.

Dominating display away to Brann, should have been more comfortable but 1-0 does the job and another clean sheet on the board. Brann sat deep and frustrated us but a set play opened them up in the end. Another reason why they are so vital.

Only the first month so not getting carried away, but the efficiency is looking more like what you would associate to Ole Martin Nesselquist's side. Most solid in defence with also being aggressive and clinical in attack.

Nesselquist recognised for a great opening month 3 wins from 3 in the league. Bodo under the guidance of Stale Solbakken have matched it and Gaute Helstrup has started well with Rosenborg. So you know what is coming next month!

April the 1st wasn't any old fool day this year for Odd fans! Abu Francis joins the club for 3 million arriving from FC Nordsjaelland. He has done well for them but not hit the heights expected of a player of his ability. More of a pure creator compared to Johan Hove also quicker and a better ball carrier. Both will now fight it out for main playmaking duties in the side.

The fans come out to see there new man!

Stale running his mouth, strange coming from a man who lost his job at Rosenborg cause his season fell apart, not to mention the fact Odd have won 8 games on the spin in the league 5 last season and 3 this. Brave man.

What a comeback! What a double hatrick! What a debut! Clear to see that Abu and Tjåland have hit it off and are on the same wave length. 3 goals 3 assists. Rønningen who? Sigurd who?

Well that didn't go to plan did it you bitter man! You could say Bodo's play was a bit stale?

The reigning champions on a nine league game winning streak take on the record title holders!

The sell-out crowd was delirious as it watched the rampant home sides empathic victory as they made it 10 wins in a row! Tjåland & Rasmussen are leading the way this season again let’s hope they don't drop off like last season. Abu Francis with another assist already looks to have plugged the gap and keeps Hove and Aas out the side.

9baf20d610db7b8efc799807b953dc49.png

I spoke earlier about how I can use my strikers to good use in defence as well as attack. In this game Rasmussen and Tjåland were instructed to man mark the fullbacks. Their roles didn't change as Rosenborg's right side is more attacking so it was ideal to have the DLF getting the ball in space early on the overload.

eabe55650d0380aab62c1c92946788b5.png

The team is then told to force play inside, with middle CB becoming the cover duty and the outside ones turning to stoppers and are tasked with man marking the two-man forward line. The WBS man mark the wingers to deny them any space.

its man for man in the key areas and it totally suffocated Rosenborg's play. Above you can see in game how it was set up, unfortunately they had just made subs when I screenshotted it. But if you look at the wingers that were subbed you will see the settings before they left the pitch. (Zacharrissen was playing RCM)

Hattrick of Sannes penalty's does the job and a nice 4-0 cup victory. We are off to the city of my work place for the next round of the Cupen! It may be lockdown but there is a nice viewpoint to look into the ground

The run goes on! Clean sheet and a controlling performance need to be more clinical in front of goal, but you can’t score 3 goals every game!

Maybe only scored one goal, but its goal of the season! Rasmussen with a spectacular volley! I compared him to a Dennis Bergkamp type of player and this just screams it even louder. The clip doesn't do the whole build up justice if it wins goal of the season ill workout how to get 30 seconds of footage.

Rules are made to be broken, are records made to be broken? I don't know but another electric showing and result breaks a big one for us! 3 goals should have been 4. Rasmussen hits another top corner, Aga gets a double misses his first pen but buries the second that takes some nerve and Tonnessen got his 13 POM in the league for the club. All-round a great day at the office.

Aalesund's set up really suits us. They have all the ball overcommit and never really do much with it. Odd sale into the next round but, it’s a tough draw as it’s a journey to the capital to take on the mighty Valerenga. They have had a terrible start to the league season so the Cupen may be their main aim and they can’t be underestimated.

1950efa06fd96eb8360f9e73408e1c4e.png

Perfect month in all competitions I think that's a first. Really in the form of our life at the minute. 4 clean sheets, 2 conceded and 16 goals score it doesn’t really get much better than that!

3a2eaee093b14378591ba55d85038d4f.png

I would have to do my research, but I would imagine it’s the best start to a league campaign in Odds history.

Bodo, Rosenborg Kristiansund are all set to pounce on any loss of form all three have started well. Molde on the other hand have stuttered.

Three really big clubs occupy the drop zones. Valerenga, Stromsgodset and Brann have had a disastrous start clubs of their stature should be well clear of the drop.

a35f92bb24d336c71a04321dc1c18c8f.png

Now we are talking! Back to being the best defence in the league, keeping teams quiet is always going to provide us with results due to the fact we have the best goalkeeper in the league. so, if he isn’t busy when required he usually is capable of pulling off the big save.

Attacking the aggression is there but yes, I’d like to take more chances, but we can be greedy the law of averages means if we take more shots that we won’t score them all so in this moment am really happy with it all.

Wonder is stale Solbakken will have something to say about this award!
