Hi guys, my laptop is reaching its end with charging problems and an intolerable fan noise.

What do you guys think about this laptop as my budget is £550 max maybe 600, I only play FM on my laptop nowadays and looking to run the 5 major leagues, is this laptop ideal for what I am after?

I'm not too knowledgable in laptops but i can see it has 1.6 ghz but has a quad core processor, not really sure which is more important.

Appreciate any help.

Looking for a new laptop for approximately £700.

I had recently purchased the system below, however it was faulty and Box are unable to replace.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1007na
AMD Ryzen 5 4600H Hexa Core Processor | 15.6" Full HD IPS Screen | Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit | 8GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM | 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD | Dedicated GeForce GTX 1650 4GB Graphics |

I'm looking for something comparable to this system. I'd ideally like to avoid Box as their aftersales has been poor, however willing to purchase through them again if they're offering a significantly better deal than everywhere else.

There's a version with a 256GB SSD for £649: https://ao.com/product/133w8eaabu-hp-laptop-black-75691-251.aspx?gclid=Cj0KCQiAmL-ABhDFARIsAKywVadbWYa9FxVigfd1zV38bsKejL73xVGyb2nokUXk5GziJ6XDt-DROuQaAtsyEALw_wcB&&WT.z_PT=Computing&WT.z_AT=Gaming Laptop&WT.z_MT=Search&WT.z_MAT=HP&WT.z_FT=Free Standing&WT.z_PC=133W8EAABU&WT.srch=1&WT.z_KW=133W8EAABU&WT.z_DT=c&WT.z_RTM=PLA&ef_id=Cj0KCQiAmL-ABhDFARIsAKywVadbWYa9FxVigfd1zV38bsKejL73xVGyb2nokUXk5GziJ6XDt-DROuQaAtsyEALw_wcB:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!8149!3!284991695031!!!g!313145736389!&gclsrc=aw.ds&&&WT.z_CN=CE - Laptop - Brand&WT.z_AG=CE - Laptop - HP&utm_medium=shopping&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=ce - laptop - brand|ce - laptop - hp&utm_term=brand|133W8EA#ABU&utm_content=aud-444730655518:pla-313145736389

Or this one has a very similar CPU and slightly stronger graphics card, but is £750: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/asus-rog-strix-g512li-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-ti-512-gb-ssd-10212988-pdt.html

I did have a look at that link but I read on the reviews it makes a lot of fan noise which is what I'm trying to avoid. Let me know what you think of the link I just posted and the main differences between that and the link you just gave me, thanks!

The one you've linked doesn't have as strong a processor, and the integrated graphics will also be weaker meaning the 3D match graphics will need to be turned down to lower settings.

One other thing to consider is the base clock speed is 1.6GHz, which is below the minimum specified by SI.  The boost speed is well in excess of this, but if the CPU gets throttled under load (and FM is reasonably CPU intensive), then it may well bring the CPU down to the base speed which is very likely to impact performance.

Appreciate the advice, all in all the laptop you linked can run 5 leagues atleast if not more without any problems? How many stars would it be with this device roughly in your opinion?

Also would I be able to download skins for the game or does that take up too much storage considering its storage is 256 GB SSD and I'm not sure how much GB a skin takes for club logos etc, I can live without face packs.

Wouldn't buy from them - they are not specifying the model number of the processor.

Plus it says it has a 512gb hard drive, and later on says it's 128gb?

Skins take up almost no room at all.  The logo pack I use, which is one of the larger ones, takes up 2.55GB of space, and FM21 itself takes up just under 5GB.

Hi all,

The help in here is amazing!

I'm looking for a laptop to run FM21 on. I would only really use it for FM and maybe video calls at the moment.

I would want to be able to run most of the leagues in England and the top leagues in 3 or 4 other countries. I would also like to run the £D match engine well.

Will probably pay on finance if I can but max budget is around £900.

Just need something that meets that but isn't something more than I need.

I saw you recommended this one further up to someone with similar requirements, what's the difference between the 2?

The one I linked for you initially has a dedicated graphics card, so will be able to play 3D at max settings - because you stated you wanted to run the 3D match engine well, I erred on the side of caution in that regard and linked something which would handle max settings without issue.

However, this one is capable and can handle the 3D graphics, just likely not at max settings.  My older Ryzen, which isn't as strong, can handle the 3D settings at medium preset with some tweaks downwards (I think I turned shadows off and reduced the crowd quality from memory).  However. if you're happy with slightly lowering the 3D settings, then definitely go for that or something else with the Ryzen 5 4500U and save some money. :)

Was looking at pc specialist. And noticed the 12 month finance option. Anyone used it? Also when buying a laptop off of them can you send it back to get further upgraded in two years or so?

Cheers Ryan

Depends what you want - you can always ask them directly.

The finance option is a standard loan which is facilitated with an agreement like any other loan. Again, something you can check with them directly.

Slightly better than the first one in fairness - CPU scores higher in benchmark tests, so I'd go for that if you're happy with the price.  I often forget about this website...........

Hi guys

Looking for a laptop to solely play fm21. I want t give the Pentagon challenge a real go. Currently using bog standard laptop that few years old but wasnt built for gaming so struggle to handle over 3 nations.

Budgets around £500-600 but maybe could stretch another £50 for something much better. Not tech savvy at all so just want something that can run as many leagues as possible smoothly.

It meets the minimum requirements for the game, but it is quite an old machine judging from the spec and is likely to be quite slow by current standards.

But, it is only £250 or so, so as long as you go in with reasonable expectations, you do have a computer there which will run FM21.

If you can genuinely stretch to £650, then I'd go for this: https://ao.com/product/133w8eaabu-hp-laptop-black-75691-251.aspx - excellent processor, and dedicated graphics card which will enable max 3D settings.

If not, then this: https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1E6Z9EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB&lang=en-GB&gclid=Cj0KCQiA3smABhCjARIsAKtrg6KGA4LO1Jy2fWewm3WDbLFFtET39Z6U1qk44WAELCVaTu4nSopoJ6waAulsEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds - still a very good processor (although not as strong as the one above), plus integrated graphics which will mean you'll need to dial down the graphics settings a bit (likely down to medium).

Ok,

thanks for answering this. I am really struggling to run this years game it is very stop start and match engine is jumpy. The game freezes for short periods a lot. Does anyone know an affordable decent laptop that can’t be affected by viruses that will run the game well? Thanks!

You'll need to state your budget - affordable could mean £200 to one person, and £2,000 to another.

Hi me again

Any laptops that anyone can recommend with £300 maximum. I only run up to 2 leagues at any given time. Other laptop I had selected was a dud typical ebay

Many thanks

Very little in that price range that I can find.  Best I can find is this refurb unit.  Still not going to be great, but it meets the base requirements for FM21 and is the best I can find: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/product/laptops/3-14-14/

I do not have any knowledge on laptops but having read this thread it would seem a minimum of £500 to play the game at a decent level.

I think 8gb ram and ryzen 5 seems to be one of the requirements.

Thoughts on this?

Also out of interest, one of the laptops around £500 suggested to people. How many leagues does that roughly allow you to play with at a decent speed.

I havent played FM for a number of years, but bought FM21 but my laptop cant cope.

Cheers

I generally only load the league I am playing in, play with the lowest graphics and the game (non-match play) does not flow smoothly at all, it briefly freezes when I click on things and the match engine is jittery. It is an old laptop, I would say over 6 years - one of those purple HP ones.

Ryzen 5 isn't a requirement - they just currently seem to offer a good balance of price and performance.

Also, 8GB isn't strictly a requirement, but is definitely an ideal starting point. But, if your budget is limited and there are only machines with 4GB RAM, then this will still be able to run FM.

The one you've linked will certainly run FM. I would however recommend a 4th gen Ryzen over a 3rd gen like this one, as there is a considerable jump in performance.

This is one I've linked a few times.  The points to bear in mind are that the storage is smaller and it's a 14" model rather than a 15.6".

I just assumed Ryzen 7 was more advanced than ryzen 5. I never actually realised the other details.

I probably have a budget of around £650

So still looking around. My main reason for a new laptop is just for FM21 which seems mental that i am about to fork out £700 for a computer game lol

I saw the lenovo l340 mentioned quite a few times, would that be a good choice or is there better for that value.

thanks a lot for the response.

In terms of Ryzen 5 v Ryzen 7, typically a 7 would be stronger. The difference here is the Ryzen 7 3700U is a 3rd generation chip and the Ryzen 5 4500U is 4th generation and AMD made huge strides in performance from the 3rd to 4th generation Ryzens.

If you can link me the Lenovo you're referring to, I'll let you know.

Hey man I should've just messaged you lol yeah I did but it's not very FM21 or FM20 friendly really. The specs are more than enough but the fans are on when I'm playing and it's running really slow. I'm certianly not flush and able to buy a new lappy whenever but I'm able to get one on finance so thinking might as well as I literally only play FM in my spare time when I'm not being screamed at by my kids and missus

Hi gents, really loved this thread thank you for all your help and information provided! I'm currently looking for a new laptop to play FM21, but ideally would like it to last me well for future generations too. I'm also not bothered about playing any other games, I just want the performance of FM to be top notch. Budget is around £700 but willing to go higher if you recommend.

Regarding specifics, I want to be able to load multiple Leagues with large database, and play max 3D match engine settings with 15.6 inch screen. I have a found this option which seems to give me everything I'm after:

https://ao.com/product/133w8eaabu-hp-laptop-black-75691-251.aspx

Will this be ok? and/or do you have any other suitable recommendations for me to look at? Cheers!

It'll do a good job and I highly doubt you'll find better for the money.
