Yes, the purchase is linked to your Steam account, so as long as you log into the same Steam account you'll be fine.

Source: Am logged into Steam on 4 separate computers lol.

Brilliant. Thought that would be the case but one of those things the more I considered it the more I convinced myself it wouldn't work!

So you can have 4 FM21 games on the go at the same time? haha

You can only play the games on one computer at a time!  If one is already up and running with a game and you try to load a game from your account on another computer, it'll kick you off of the other one before it loads up the new game.

Just that I have a desktop, 2 laptops (one of which I don't really use any more, just kept it as a spare in case the newer one died on me) and the other one is the laptop my son uses as he plays a couple of the games on my account.

Ah, of course, makes sense! Thanks for the help mate. I should be in a position to buy a new laptop at the end of this month so I will probably send a couple of links I am looking at to get you to double check to make sure! top man, thanks.

Many thanks for your response. I will definitely be getting either the new 13-inch or a 16-inch, so I will be sure to post the results for anyone interested.

Sorry to be a pain, but are you aware of what the performance (FM21 or an older game) is like on the 16-inch MacBook Pro? When fully maxed out the specs are:

8-core i9 processor

AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2 memory

64GB of 2666MHz DDR4 onboard memory

Do you think this would be overkill? Thanks again.

Hi all.

can anyone recommend a decent two in one tablet / laptop that I could purchase to run FM 21 on? Would one of these work so I could run it and then play as more of a tablet game?

Having been looking at a Surface Pro 7 - my question is am I better off buying something like this or just buying an iPad and going down the FM Touch route. I’m really confused - I won’t really use my laptop for anything else but would probably use a tablet a lot more?

As per the OP, we can't comment on how many leagues it will run, due to the subjective nature of each person's interpretation of how good (or bad) processing speeds are.

However, factoring in $ to £ conversion, that's a decent price for that spec.  Based on my own experience with the previous gen version of that APU (I have a laptop with the Ryzen 5 2500U), it should be good for medium settings with some tweaks.  From memory, I lowered the quality of the crowd and removed shadows, but left the rest as per the medium preset, and got a smooth performance with it.  You may be able to set some things a bit higher than I did as the integrated GPU in that chip is clocked a bit higher than in the 2500U.

Is it the touchscreen aspect you're after?

Also worth mentioning that there are various configurations of the Surface Pro 7 at different price points.  For pretty much all of them, you get a solidly specced gaming laptop for the same price.

Except Surface Pros with graphics cards have a bottleneck, as Miles found out after buying one.

I wouldn't recommend a Surface Pro - you're paying for portability, and that impacts playablity.

Unless you have a very specific reason.

No not really, I think it’s the versatility I’m after of been able to play the game on the move a little more on a tablet style screen without having to drag the laptop around

No not really, perhaps I’d be better going down the touch route then on an iPad. I’m just after some decent technology that won’t go obsolete quickly

Ok - for Fm Touch these are the compatible devices for FM20 - I don't think the list for FM21 is out yet

Thanks.

it was the full version of the game I was after really, but I’m aware I don’t have a decent laptop or tablet at the minute. I’m basically after something to replace scrolling up and down on my phone with either a laptop or a tablet. That’s why I thought some kind of portable mix might be better. I have a young child and don’t think I’ll be able to sit with a laptop whereas a tablet/screen I can pick up and play is much easier. I guess I’m going to have to pass on the full version for that nature unless there was an options? Price not necessarily an issue just want to be getting value for money

Yeah.... That's gonna struggle with 3D.  It seems the 3D graphics are a bit more demanding than previous years.... Of course, this could be down to optimisation and may be improved by the time of the retail release, but I can't give any guarantees.

In terms of laptops around £300, there's very little to recommend in the new bracket.

This refurb would be OK, but still not great.  I'd recommend using the option to upgrade to 8GB RAM if you can.

I’ve just started looking into the Lenovo idea pad flex range which I think may do something I’m after? Is there something in these for around the £600 quid mark that would run FM 21 fairly comfartably?

All of the ones I can see advertised on the Lenovo site are models with the ultra-low power 10th gen Intel processors.  This means they have a base clock speed below the SI stated requirements for FM.  Because of this, I'm not going to recommend them.  It's not to say they won't work, but these CPUs will get throttled under load and so it is possible that their performance won't be ideal for FM.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of running FM on a laptop with one of these chips to see how they perform.... But until I hear anything to say otherwise, my advice would be to steer clear.

Thanks Kev.

is that the same with the Lenovo Yoga range? There is a similar looking product by HP on curry’s HP Envy x360 AMD Ryzen 5 256 Gb?

again not sure if these would be suitable?

Out of all these 2-in-1's, this is the one I'd go for (at least from the Currys range):

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-15-6-amd-ryzen-5-2-in-1-laptop-512-gb-ssd-black-10206956-pdt.html

The Ryzen 5 4500U is a very good laptop processor, with decent integrated graphics capability - should play FM21 in medium 3D settings (possibly higher).

Or, this one is effectively the same, but 256GB storage as opposted to 512GB on the other: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-13-3-2-in-1-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-black-10206938-pdt.html

EDIT: Not quite the same, the first one has a larger screen... But, CPU and RAM are the same.

Hi,

I was wondering what your thoughts are on these 2 laptops? I was going purchasing

But I was wondering would either of these be better?

https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/product/laptops/hp-g4/

https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/product/laptops/250g5-3/

None are that great to be honest, but the top one is best by a mile.

If you play in 3D, you will likely need to have the graphics set to low to get a smooth experience.

Hi,

I'm looking at a new laptop and I'm currently interested in there HP Omen. There's a Ryzen 7 4800H version and a 10750H version. From what I can tell the AMD has superior multi-core by some way (16 threads/8 cores if I'm right) whereas the Intel has better single core performance (and is only 6 cores).

But I haven't kept up with hardware in recent years to really know enough about what I'm on about. Does anyone have enough knowledge to tell me which would be the superior (if any) option for FM ? The computer meets my needs from every other perspective and either would suit my needs outside of FM. The only benefit of the Intel is a larger SSD, but I could forgo that if the AMD was actually a much better processor (I have minimal storage needs for a laptop).

Thanks in advance.

@Asfolath89

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

Ranks the Ryzen ahead of the i7:

image.thumb.png.b743b068169c8c9334e2179adcf8aa3a.png

However, this site scores the i7 higher (but, the i7 does have a larger test sample, so it's hard to say if those results would stand if both had the same number of tests):

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-10750H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-4800H/m1053158vsm1032976

FM mostly benefits from single core performance and both are very close in this regard, with the i7 edging it very slightly.

Truth be told, there is very little in it and either will do a fine job.

if they are close in price, I'd probably be inclined to go for the Ryzen, purely because it does have more cores and it does score a bit higher in the multi-core tests which will be the bigger difference maker for overall computer performance.

Thanks for the quick reply @kevhamster and sound advice ! I wasn't sure if the single or multi-core performance was more important for FM.

Going to wait tentatively incase any prices drop next week (doubt it but you'd kick yourself if they did) and I'll take this on board when I buy. You've been a great help.

Looking for a 13 inch laptop that is light and well built but powerful enough to play FM21 with 3D matches.

Won’t use the laptop for much other than FM and web browsing / streaming.

Budget is about AUD2k (about GBP1,100).

Any recommendations / clear leaders in this space on the market?

Thanks in advance.

This is what I'd go for - you're pretty unlikely to find a 13" laptop with an dedicated graphics card, at least that I've seen.

https://www.centrecom.com.au/hp-probook-x360-435-g7-133-fhd-touchpen-ryzen-7-4700u-laptop

However, the integrated graphics on this should enable the matches at medium settings at least.  Decent processor as well.

That looks pretty good. The 4700U is a very good processor, in farirnes. Probably one of the few I'd even think of recommending for FM.

Despite it having a TDP of 15 - it can be configured up in some cases, which would give it a TDP of 25, for a slightly better FM performance.

@Jartlawson

I had a Surface Pro 3 about 4 years ago. Cost about £1,500 and it was absolutely beautiful but it ran the fan noisily and almost constantly. It even got so hot it turned itself off a few times. I ended up returning it after 2 weeks and getting my current XPS 13.

it may have been a software issue that has since been rectified but I wouldn’t have another one.

You kinda can't expect that for the price though.  Even factoring in the fact it's a HDD rather than SSD, it's a good price for that spec.

Purely in FM terms, there is very little performance gain from having an SSD over a HDD.  Yes, the system as a whole will boot up quicker and things will load quicker, but for FM itself the difference is minimal.

But, for the budget you've stated, you have to manage your expectations as to what sort of system you're going to be able to get.

@kevhamsterYeah, you're right. I was way too optimistic

I think I'll invest in a separate SSD if it takes too much time to boot up programs (not just FM, office/work stuff too), it's not very pricey here

I have a HDD on my laptop and honestly it's not too bad... An SSD would be nicer, but there you go.

Hi all

Hope I'm ok posting here as my question in desktop upgrade related rather than laptop. I either self build or get custom built every five years or so, and my last one was end of 2015 so I've started looking. However I'm starting to think that there is little point, was just after some opinions to see if I am right.

I only really play FM (and civ now and again) and in my current set up I can run all leagues and am happy with the speed. On FM20 I ran leagues from 75 countries.

My current set up is;

AMD FX 8350 Black edition (8 cores, 8 threads, 4.0ghz),

16gb 1600mhz ram

Nvidia Gtx 740

120gb SSD which only contains windows 10, fm21 and graphics as well as a couple of basic apps (chrome, Spotify, etc). Everything else is stored on a 500gb HDD.

My gut says upgrading at this point would only give me slight returns and not be cheap. Thoughts?

Well the processor is eight years old probably (EOL) end of life.

Unless you can upgrade the motherboard so you can get a new processor.

RAM is quite slow - would need more details from you in regards to RAM type and motherboard.

I think it would be best to buy a new one from scratch as you'll be replacing all parts, and likely the case anyway.

What's the budget?

Hi, mate.

I'm in need of an advice.

Will getting an RTX2060 suffice to run FM21 or should I get RTX2070..?

FM21 is the only game I'm playing.

Thanks. 🙂🏾

The 2060 will be more than enough.  I'm running a 1660 Super and it plays smoothly at max settings at 1080p.

I'd honestly say the 2060 is overkill if you're not playing other games, unless you're getting a really good deal on it.

The 1660Ti is stronger than the 1660 Super I'm using, so I'd say yes.   It's not better than the 2060, but if FM is all you're playing then it'll be ample. :)

FM isn't graphically demanding by current game terms.

The CPU is far more important to FM than the graphics card.

Hi @Kevhamster & @Smurf thank you for doing this

What is your budget? - £600 or below
Any other info - FM21 wise I would like to be able to load all leagues, use the biggest databases, use the 3D match engine, no lag, face and logo packs
Would like a laptop. Would like it be lightweight (if possible). Last me around 5 year at least

Netflix - Yes
Other games - No
Edit videos - Yes
Music/Spotify - No (YouTube more likely)
Edit photos - No
Etc - N/A

From my limited research (I am no tech buff so don't know much) this what I have found, would really appreciate your opinions on them. Also some recommendations of alternatives both on spec and price. Thank you very much!

Thanks for the response mate. Processor only been in use for five years at this point, although old.

RAM is Corsair vengeance, which remains on the market at a similar price I paid for it 5 years ago. Motherboard is Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3.

Budget not really a factor, but this one was custom built at about £550 so I would expect to get an updated one for similar, although that did include the ssd which I wouldn't be replacing this time.

I have been looking at 6 core Ryzen 5s or 7s, but am really not convinced on the performance uplift vs price.

Actually wondering if it's worth waiting until EOL and seeing what is available then.
