FM 10 Tactic - Wingless Wonders

Recommended Posts

Wingless Wonders 4-1-3-2

http://www.4shared.com/file/146027998/13dbecbe/Nixy_V7.html

The basic idea of the tactic is to get the ball to the strikers quickly and for them 2 run onto the through balls supplied by the midfield but each player role will be discussed in more detail later. This tactic will not win u matches that u cant win and u wont dominate posession but it will bring u sucsess if the right instuctions and players are used.

The tactic starts with CONTROL but switch to COUNTER if playing away to an better team and under the kosh. If at half time ur team is not creating chances or u r behind, change to ATTACK. If u are still behind and have nothing to lose take the DMC off and move him to a third striker set as a TARGET MAN - this does work.

Touchline Instructions - as CONTROL states, the team will probe the opposition early on but this can lead to the game arriving at half time goaless with not many chances being created so if u want more from the team I usually use GET BALL FORWARD and HASSLE OPPONENTS to give the team more desire and impetus. If i have gone all out attack i PUMP BALL INTO BOX and use PLAY WIDER. I dont generally use any other T.I.'s as the tactic will do the job anyway.

GOALKEEPER - standard GK but his distribution is set to a quick throw to the full backs to retain posession and start attacks.

RIGHT BACK - the full backs are exposed due to the narrow midfield and as they dont seem to tackle in FM10 and let the crosses get fired in, the main requirements are that they are good going forward and as reliable as possible at not making errors. Key attributes - crossing, concentration, anticipation, pace. PREFERED MOVES - DRIBBLE DOWN RIGHT FLANK/ GET FORWARD WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

LEFT BACK - Set to AUTOMATIC the full backs will look to provide the width and crosses for the strikers but the full backs are exposed due to the narrow midfield and as they dont seem to tackle in FM10 and let the crosses get fired in, the main requirements are that they are good going forward and as reliable as possible at not making errors. Key attributes - crossing, concentration, anticipation, pace. PREFERED MOVES - DRIBBLE DOWN LEFT FLANK/ GET FORWARD WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

CENTRE BACKS - Set to AUTOMATIC the full backs will look to provide the width and crosses for the strikers but the full backs being exposed and the crosses coming in the centre backs MUST be very good in the air to deal with the airiel threat. Pace is not essential as the defensive line is relatively deep and do not play offside. Key attributes - heading, jumping, strength and the normal CB attributes. PREFERRED MOVES - MARKS OPPONENT TIGHTLY.

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER - Will break down attacking moves and pick up the loose ball from your defence. However in this tactic he is also set to DEEP LYING PLAYMAKER and will pull the strings when going forward and start the moves. Key attributes - passing, tackling, marking and creativity. PREFERRED MOVES - DICTATES TEMPO/ TRYS KILLER BALLS OFTEN.

CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS - LEFT & RIGHT - In the narrow 3 man midfield these 2 central midfielders set to ATTACK will arrive late in opposition areas and try through balls to the poacher. They also run into the channels and provide some width or look for the overlapping full backs. In defence they will close down the opposing wide men. Key attributes - passing, creativity, workrate and stamina. PREFERRED MOVES - TRYS KILLER BALLS OFTEN/ DRIBBLES THROUGH CENTRE.

CENTRAL MIDFIELDER - ADVANCED PLAYMAKER - Operating between the 2 midfielders the playmaker will look to set things up in the final third and also on the counter attack supply through balls to the strikers. Will also attempt long shots and has the license to roam the pitch. This player is key in this tactic and u should have real quality in this position. (attacking midfielders who arent natural in midfield can be used in this position btw). Ket attributes - passing, creativity, passing, flair, pace and long shots. PREFERRED MOVES - TRYS KILLER BALLS OFTEN/ DRIBBLE THROUGH CENTRE.

POACHER - (Left Striker) - The poacher is the target man with supply set to run onto ball so pace is essential and so is finishing as the tactic will provide many one on ones for this player. His first job is to score the goals. Key attributes - pace, acceleration, dribbling, off the ball, anticipation and finishing. PREFERRED MOVES - BEAT OFFSIDE TRAP/ PLACES SHOTS.

COMPLETE FORWARD - (Right Striker) - Will set up moves and supply poacher with through balls and crosses but is also beneficial if he is good in the air. Needs to be fairly good at everything. Key attributes - dribbling, finishing, passing, crossing, heading. PREFERRED MOVES - BEAT OFFSIDE TRAP/ SHOOTS WITH POWER.

SET PIECES - As there is no corner "cheat" in FM 10, have just set up centre backs to go forward and challenge keeper etc. and does provide the odd goal. In defensive corner situations, the whole team comes back to help, there is a player on each post and when the ball does breaks down, watch the whole team burst out on the counter attack!

Long throws are on long but would change to short if no decent long throw specialists in team.

Thats it really - any more questions see post 3 or the thread and this the final refined version of the tactic....

Final version of tactic uploaded in post 1 but I will also keep the original tactic and other versions available for download here.

So I have created a very good (dont wanna say "supertactic" just yet apart from 2 grab ur attention) which I would like to share and test further.

Personal Background: played every version of game since early champo - have always created a sucsessful tactic personally every year and always worked when my friend needed one 2 work - I like my team 2 play the ball on the ground and get it to the strikers quickly to do there job.

Tactic Background: developed with Forest and refined with first demo run to moderate sucsess -then tested with Aston Villa and was in the top 4 despite unsettling squad selling all their wingers! - then tested with Republic Of Ireland campaign remaining unbeaten and beating Italy 3-0 and winning a world cup playoff against Portugal 2-2(away goals!) - then tested again with Forest from start and have played 9 and won 22points so pretty confident it is a very solid and attacking tactic.

It is a 4-1-3-2 wingless formation.... TOP TIP: do not alter the midfield roles, I tweeked them and lost the next 2 matches so keep faith with them plz.

http://www.4shared.com/file/141699407/de8f4284/Nixy1.html

Version 2 http://www.4shared.com/file/144918088/aa42cc17/Nixy_V2__Nottm_Forest_Dec_2009_.html

Version 2 has a stopper and an advanced foward - is tweaked for the 10.1 patch - seems to give more high scoring games.

UPDATE: Version 3

http://www.4shared.com/file/145401096/e60ae01/Nixy_V3__Nottm_Forest_Sep_2010_.html

Version 3 - tweaked defensive corner settings and changed stopper to normal CB - advanced forward and complete forward upfront - Season 2 with Forest having bought and trained preferred moves of existing players 2 match the tactic have played 8 won 6 drawn 2 lost 0 scoring 14 goals but conceding just 4. Will sometimes use COUNTER in the second halfs to counter the AI team fighting back...

No matter what I try I always come bk to the original tactic (even in 10.1) - always works best for me cos of the goal scoring threat it gives my team.

Cheers

GK - will distribute to full back or target man 2 either retain posession or counter quickly

DR - Automatic - overlapping & crossing lots - will be under pressure from opp wingers but the dmc and midfielders will cover

DL - Automatic - overlapping & crossing lots - will be under pressure from opp wingers but the dmc and midfielders will cover

DC - normal CB - anticipation needed - will try and snuff out the danger - will also score from corners

DC- normal CB -less closing down - could also be set 2 stopper - will score from corners

DMC - deep lying playmaker - creativity, tackling etc. xabi alonso

MLC - attack - andy reid, gareth barry etc - bombing forward

MC - advanced playmaker - creativity, long shots, flair -Fabregas etc. but an am natural with cm accomplished also works perfectly

MRC - attack - standard midfielder - lampard or sidwell wud be perfect here etc.

S - Complete Forward - ie rooney - will chip in and set up poacher - useful if he is also a good strong header of the ball

S - Poacher - ie. torres - will get plenty of through balls from the playmaker and hopefully finish them..

Team will score lots and concede a few!

Set Pieces r all set up as well.

Team starts with control.

Touchline Instructions u can use in order I usually use them

*Get Ball Forward

*Exploit middle

*Switch to ATTACKING

*Hassle Opponents

*Get Stuck In

*Overload

FIRST UPDATE:

Ran thru another demo this time with West Ham Utd - transfer budget £0 prediction 9th -

Green, Faubert, Illunga, Upson, Reginusen - cost 350k - worth 20 times this amount,

DMC - Parker, MRC - Noble - 4gls 11assists

MC - Jiminez - (loan from Inter) 6gls 2assists

MLC - Thomson - 4.4m

S - Diamanti - forward 19app 7gls 5assists

S - Cole - poacher 19app - 10gls 3 assists

Played 19 won 10 d 7 lost 2 - F34 A16 pts 37 - just under 2points a game - not bad for a fairly average team and a lot better than in real life.... Pos 3rd btw.

SECOND UPDATE: Burton Albion Media Prediction 24th - Budget 50k

Ran thru another demo - bought krysiak (gk) 150k cos they had no keeper and id raised some funds, bought some loan players in and used Harrad who is very good at this level but basically kept the nucleas of the team the same... here were the results before my game crashed in december...

Played 21 games - won 42pts conceding less than 1 a game - 2nd pos 4 pts clear of notts c in third and was also in FA Cup 3rd Round - I now know that this tactic works at lower league levels and from other ppls results works in european leagues - only thing left to test is whether it can survive "second season syndrome" or SSS but i cant test that in demo tho...

I have also noticed that wingless tactics seem to perform better than in 09. I use a narrow diamond formation with Ac Milan. In 09 I could not get it to work, but thanks to the wizard (I suppose) I am able to win and it has been quite (fm 06 I think) a while since I've felt comfortable playing FM as I got the idea I knew what I was doing.

This looks an interesting tactic. I'm gonna try it with crystal palace. This is my squad:-

GK - Silviu Lung jnr/J Speroni

DL - D Castedo/L Hills

DR - Lauren/J Ertl

DC - J Fonte_Glauber/C Davis_M Musienu

MLC - R Ricketts/K Djialli

MRC - D Ambrose/N Brazite

DMC - A N'diaye

MC - N Danns

FC - N Mellor+ H Camara

Do you think this team has what it takes for this tactic to work? I've got bristol city away next. i'll keep you posted

***UPDATE***

If just had my first game with this tactic and it's not too bad. What gets up my nose is, the fullback don't close down they just circle round the player to allow him to put the crosses in. It was 3-3 in the end against bristol city away from home. I'll carry on and see where it gets me.

I would def play the kid from arsenal Barazite in centre and ambrose or danns on right personally and eventually look for a more creative dmc - strikers look good with idea to bring on sears second half in the poacher role 2 put away the thru balls

Thanks for the advice. I just lost to ipswich away and we weren't bad but it just seems that my players are not capable of folowing the instructions. How long does it take for the tactic to take off? Also, is it right that the front 5 are all on attack instructions?

It will work straight away but not if u have been playing with another tactic and just switched over 2 this one - all my sucsess was after a few freindlies and there were draws early on - this has been tested with 3 full demos in different levels but u may need 2 buy players for this tactic rather than put ur existing players into it - give it time tho....

What is wrong with fullback in this tactic? They allow the opp winger all the time in the world to pick his spot for the cross but just running alongside him without looking to tackle so he crossing it in and the fullback on the other side just stands there and lets the opp player take a shot or score. Has anyone else had this? Also, are you sure that the front 5 are suppose to have an attacking mentality? Thanks

If ur unhappy with the full backs closing down either ask them 2 close down opposition or use the opposition instructions on the wingers b4 the game - u can use touchline instructions with this tactic - I use get ball forward and switch 2 attacking and exploit middle and hassle opponents if i want 2 make them make mistakes - i also use get stuck in to try and bully the opposition - generally works as shown by Ireland coming back from 2-0 down at HT in portugal.

Always take the game to the opposition and never sit back or relax is my philosophy.

I test it now with Dundee Utd (I buy Viduka and Smolarek)

No OI

Results:

WIN Friendly 3-0 HOME

WIN Friendly 4-0 AWAY

WIN Friendly 4-0 AWAY

WIN Friendly 3-0 HOME

WIN Friendly 1-0 AWAY

WIN Friendly 7-2 HOME (against Leeds)

The three player under 21 rule is #$#!##!

LOSE because I must set three 17 year old players in my first eleven

Try it with another team (lower league) let you know the results

But the beginning is hopeful

not for a lower league side.

Question: I downloaded the tactic, and placed in My Documents > Sports Interactive > FM2010 Demo > Tactics.

I've then opened FM, gone to tactics, and archved tactics - it is there, but when I press to load it, it says that the file could not be imported.

Had anyone else had this issue?

Seem to be giving away alot of possesion with this tactic. It's very direct and counter attacking.

The left and right midfielders seem wasted here as they spend all there time defending.

I think with a few tweaks you could be onto something.

In the full game I am gonna ask my strikers 2 either lob or round the keeper as it does seem the one on ones do get missed - change the strikers if under 6.0 rating and the subs should do the job

ok but my strikers have ability to place shots...i think is much better this one

It's a pretty decent tactic against weaker teams. Ones that don't have superior wingers, so that your wingbacks can push up and act as wingers.

In post1 i did say that the weakness is the pressure on the full backs - did stop cristiano ronaldo with kevin kilbane tho in my Irish test - I too have had games where the opposition has started well and got loads of crosses into the box - managed 2 cut them down using opposition instructions - id say it was a lot better than a "decent" tactic considering the results with the players used so far - just buy top quality full backs and have very strong headers in defence and it will stop them exploiting the wings....

Romeo. Do you think this would work with Madrid? I am awful at creating tactics but all of the ones I've found so far for FM 2010 don't seem to accomodate for Ronaldo or Kaka well. I know people will say it's Madrid anything will work but I want them to play to their full potential.

I'll give it a try with them anyway and let you know how it goes.

Have had a horrendous time with this tactic.

Playing as Gillingham in League 1, I've used it for 9 matches so far and have won just one and lost all others. Am conceding at least two goals every game and having real trouble scoring.

Had to change to a standard tactic, cos I am being told that one more defeat will result in the sack.

Thanks anyway :)

I have noticed a few very small details which i am refining and I am also working on the striking roles with the left attacker being the trequartista and the right attacker remaining a poacher with the instruction to run on to the thru balls supplied - will post refined tactic at 8am (2 hours) if improvements work....

promising start - just beat PL Burnley 3-1 despite many injuries....

well, despite that good result, whatever tweaks i try just seems 2 make the tactic inferior - the only improvements I thought that could work was 2 put the centre backs to stoppers but this is an agressive idea...

At work now till 6pm uk - will run thru a demo 2nite with Gillingham (as it worked so poorly for 1 poster) I will try it personally 2 c if it can be used sucsessfully but that will not be until later... please keep posting feedback....

Very nice tactic. I tryed it with Milan, just for the heck of it, cos im doing great with my own tactic. I beat Real in Madrid 2:1 with 4-5 ccc against their 0 and than 6:0 Genoa at home. I like the amount of chances this tactic produces. I`m playing Pirlo as DMC, Palombo as MLC, Ronaldinho as MC, Gatuso at MRC. Cassano is complete forward (3 goals in 2 games with this tactic) and Pato is poacher.

Great job!

Romeo. Where would you play Cristiano Ronaldo in this tactic?

Perhaps retrain him to striker and use him in the Complete Poacher role do you think or would he function well in midfield despite the game and my assissant manager saying he is ineffective there?

i wud use him as a wide midfielder - i did the same with ashley young and he was fine there.

thanks OP, i used yr tactic n it is working well so far with 7-8 games played

i'm trying Chelsea ... i have

DMC - deep lying playmaker - da rossi

MLC - attack - ballack

MC - advanced playmaker - lampard

MRC - attack - essien

S - Complete Forward - drogba/dezko

S - Poacher- anelka/RvN

rotated my forwards n they r scoring well, i had 3-0,4-0,5-0 wins

only problem is now i have a bunch of redundant wingers .... malouda, zhikov, joe cole, kalou, etc.

plus 3 of the new star players i bought di maria, silva work best as wingers and cassano in the Trequartista role which this formation doesn't really employ, lol

I used this tactic in the demo and worked wonders. Just finished the demo with Liverpool and remain unbeaten in the League (drawing 4 away to Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Bolton), qualified to the later stages of the Champions League (in 2nd place losing to Porto) and through to the semi final of the League Cup (beating Man City away with my reserve team!!). My team is as follows-

GK- Reina/Westwood

DL- Aurellio/Insua

DR- Johnson/Darby

DC's- Agger and Carragher/Skrtel and Kyrgikagos

DMC- Mascherano/Lucas

MLC- Defour/Riera

MC- Aquillani/Van Der Vaart

MRC- Gerrard/Benayoun

FC Complete Forward- Milevskyi/Borriello/Pandev

FC Poacher- Torres/Nistelrooy/

Thanks alot for this tactic!!

Actually you don't.

I've been confused by that rule as well - in fact, you only need 3 U21 players in the entire team (so you can safely put all of them on the bench).

Just felt I should mention that, sorry for the offtopic.
