Yeah, it's not a big ask at all - I've got it all on a nice simple spreadsheet. I was going to give an update every time a flavour lost all its managers but they are keeping it very close at the moment. Exactly right, LLR - but you are too happy this morning (afternoon) so, well...

Update 65

Years: 5, Months: 65, Days: 1972

There were four sackings of our managers this month, but only one of those was of one of our managers who was still eligible to win the competition. However, that wasn’t the one I was tipping it would be, but it was a manager from the same league.

We’ll start by examining how the remaining nations fared in their qualifying campaign for the World Cup. In Europe, Poland’s 2-1 home win was not enough to avoid Croatia from knocking them out 4-3 on aggregate, and Belgium’s 1-0 home win was also not enouh to prevent Romania making the finals 2-1 on aggregate. Norway’s hopes looked over when they could only draw at home to Serbia, but a 1-0 win in Belgrade sent the Scandinavians through. Jeremy English’s England beat visitors Russia 1-0 at Wembley, a result that led to renewed calls for his dismissal and left England fans on edge. Sure enough, Russia’s 3-1 home victory, made to look so close only by Dean Ashton’s 90th minute consolation, made sure that Saul Goode’s Wales would be the only home nation in the tournament. English was duly sacked and replaced with Stuart Pearce. Peru drew 1-1 in Costa Rica and won 1-0 at home to ensure six South American nations at the finals, and Saudi Arabia qualified ahead of New Zealand with a 3-1 win in Oceania and a 1-0 win in Asia.

In England, Leo Dodge’s Tottenham are still struggling to get into their stride. This month, a 4-0 victory over Fulham was the only highlight league-wise, although two of their three losses did come to Man United and to Liverpool. They are currently 8th. Liam Ferguson’s Man City also beat Fulham 4-0, although their result was in the Carling Cup Fourth Round. Wins over Hull and Aston Villa and draws away to Arsenal and 16th-placed Leeds may not seem like great league form, but it keeps them in touch with the leaders Arsenal, just a point behind the Gunners although having played an extra game. Alongside City, Roberto Mancini’s Everton made the Carling Cup Quarter Final after beating Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison. They face Newcastle next, while Man City host Lawrence Lazewski’s Chelsea. Middlesbrough meet Sunderland and Blackburn meet Liverpool. England saw one sacking this month, other than Jeremy English’s, with 18th-placed West Ham replacing Scott Tysoe with Pierluigi Casiraghi.

In Italy, the cat and mouse game between Inter and Palermo continues, with Mikey Twigge’s team currently holding the upper hand. His Palermo lead Inter by one point, having picked up seven from a maximum of nine this month. They also hosted Dortmund in the Europa League and won 3-1. Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina are fourth, winning one, drawing one and losing one in November. Just behind them are Lord Weeman’s Napoli, who won two and lost one in the league, but lost both Champions League matches, against Man United 0-2, and against Celtic 3-5, the latter at home. Sitting in fourth place, while a Europa League entry is still possible, an away trip to Barcelona in the final game makes it improbable. Down at the southern end of the Serie A table, two wins from three allowed Super Lampard’s Lecce to climb off bottom and up to 16th, while one win from three, combined with a 0-3 loss at Valencia in the Champions League and despite a 4-1 home victory over PSV Eindhoven, cost Jonte Rhodes his job. The Lazio board saw fit to dispose of his services after his 1968-day long tenure at the club, so the South African now finds himself available for work for the first time in a good long while. Rhodes himself had predicted bad news following his team’s qualification for the Champions League. He had expected the board to be too ambitious subsequent to it, and they were. Poor Jonte.

Many teams have already qualified for the next stages of the Champions League, but understandably Lazio is not one of them. Valencia’s record is still perfect, so they are into the Last 16, and will be joined by either PSV or Lazio, with Red Star Belgrade out of the running for even Europa League entry. Real Madrid and Tottenham, A.C. Milan and Galatasaray, Atlético Madrid and Man City, Inter and Porto and Bayern Munich and Ajax are all pairs of teams that have secured qualification from their group. Arsenal are through, to be joined by Sporting CP or Werder Bremen, as are Man United, to be joined by Napoli or Barcelona. Some of the month’s biggest results saw Liam Ferguson’s Man City beat Anderlecht 4-0, a scoreline matched by Ben Cee’s Inter at Maccabi Haifa, while Barcelona beat Celtic 3-1. Anderlecht became the victims of a second consecutive 0-4 drubbing when they visited Atlético Madrid, while Tottenham held Real Madrid 0-0. Sporting CP beat FC Københaven 4-0 and A.C. Milan beat Braga 6-1. In the Europa League, Tyler Burrows and his Udinese team beat Salzburg 4-0 while winning two out of three league games in order to qualify for the next round. Panathanaikos and Juventus are also in the next round. Juventus have a new manager: Arsène Wenger, although bermybhoy, Theo Stigarakis and Da Hoover Man were believed by the media to have been in the running.

Valencia are still going strong in La Liga, but Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona are also providing their money’s worth. Barcelona sit top, two points ahead of their new challengers and boat-rockers, but having played an extra game. This month, aside from an away draw against Maz Armley’s Sevilla and an away loss to Man United in the Champions League, they won all their games, including 1-0 over Real Madrid and 7-0 in the return leg of their match against Universidad LP. Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid got one of each result in the league, drawing against Tottenham in the Champions League as already mentioned, and beating Salamanca 3-0 to reach the next stage of the Spanish Cup with a 6-0 aggregate victory. Elsewhere in Spain, Athletic Club sacked Wobill Luman with the club sitting 19th in La Liga. However, Luman’s 1076-day long tenure at the club, 187 days longer than his stay at Betis, means he now has Basque nationality.

All of our managers have suddenly been given a boot up the back passage with the sudden and shocking news of Jonte Rhodes’s departure. With his exit from the competition coming 268 days after the last one, that of Tim Aubel, you could have forgiven the managers for slacking slightly. But the smell of blood is in the air, and next month might see another manager pop his footballing clogs, especially with allusions to the power of the unlucky number thirteen. Super Lampard, for instance, will want to keep his nice little bit of form from this month going, or face the consequences.

Manager of the Update

There are several decent contenders this month.

Liam Ferguson, Man City

wins it for me with some solid performances, even though they were not remarkable, including a 4-0 win over Anderlecht in the Champions League. Mikey Twigge was a good contender, and a well deserved runner-up, while both Super Lampard and Tyler Burrows were slightly further back. Haowan Madridstas also featured in the running but missed out due to a 1-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

Years: 5, Months: 66, Days: 2003

Our managers celebreated their 2000th day in charge of their clubs this month, and all of them managed to make the occasion; there were no sudden dismissals on the night before. There was some manager movement this month, but none affecting our current managers. dafuge ditched Bolton for Beskitas, leaving the Wanderers in 19th place in the Premier League. 571 days was his record for the longest time at one club, but he’s already got busy at Besiktas, beating Standard Liege and drawing with Estonians Levadia in his first two games in the Europa League. He faces Schalke in the next round. dafuge is a coffee ice cream lover, giving him a Loyalty of 1. He’s certainly been the most promiscuous of any of our managers. Yet his departure spelt good news for former Cagliari manager Neppo Monster, who has so far not been able to lift them above 19th place. Meanwhile, Racing sacked their manager Ernesto Valverde and replaced him with former Villarreal charge, Lars Tommersen. Tommersen has so far controlled four Racing games and not won any of them.

England is the place to be, so that’s where we will start. Tom Smith’s Arsenal have carved out a massive 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League. They have played two more games than both second-placed Liverpool and third-placed Man City, but even so, they won every single game this month without conceding a goal. A 3-0 win at Tim Aubel’s Portsmouth and a 2-0 at Goodison Park were among the highlights, but they were all fantastic 3-0 or 2-0 wins, meaning an 18-point haul for December. In addition to this, Sporting CP visited the Emirates in the Champions League and were promptly dismissed 4-0. Liam Ferguson’s Man City did not have such a bad month either, but they were a little off the mark from time to time. Both Blackburn and Sunderland were beaten, as were Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, but Fulham offered resistance, grabbing a 1-1 draw at the City of Manchester Stadium, and it took a lot of hard work to overcome Lawrence Lazewski’s Chelsea 3-2 in the Carling Cup Quarter Final. Leo Dodge’s Tottenham have had a healthy month which has carried them up to 5th: three wins and three draws, including a 1-1 draw at AEK in the Champions League. Spurs travel to Scunthorpe in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Man City host Swansea and Arsenal will play Martin Bojangles’s Aston Villa.

Now let’s travel to Italy, with their newly-depleted stock of eight managers. Super Lampard’s Lecce have seen their fortunes drop again, losing all four games this month, and Cardio Vascular’s Genoa are also cruising towards relegation, plummeting down to 15th after just three points from nine. Vascular is Very Insecure, Lampard is just Insecure, and Lord Weeman is also Insecure. Two wins and two losses weren’t particularly bad this month for the Napoli boss, but there was a decisive 1-3 loss to Barcelona that saw the team crash out of the Champions League and out of Europa entirely. Italian Cup progression was also secured with a 2-0 victory over Livorno, but it is not satisfactory for a board who two seasons ago were celebrating the title. If none of these three can engineer good months next month, we could see the Italian league having only as many managers as the other two leagues put together. Tyler Burrows is my Italian success story of this month. Both Reggina and Frosinone were beaten 3-1 away by Burrows’s Udinese team, and both Parma and Serie A leaders Palermo were beaten 4-1 at home. In addition, Frosinone were dispatched 3-1 to secure Italian Cup progression, and both APOEL Nicosia and Brøndby fell 0-3 in their home stadia in the Europa League. They are set to face Lyon in the Round of 32, the team who qualified in first place from their group with Mikey Twigge’s Palermo in second. Palermo will face Standard Liege.

Valencia have regained the upper hand in La Liga and it is still a tense title battle with no one daring to guess who will eventually lift the crown. Neither Valencia nor Atlético Madrid have lost a game yet, but Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona are still looking sharp. Barcelona won all three games this month, including thrashing Lars Tommersen’s Racing 4-0, but Valencia went one better by playing, and winning, four. Meanwhile, Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid, in 5th place, are already looking out of the running, sitting 14 points behind Valencia. This month, two wins were earned but not where it counts: an away trip to Atlético Madrid saw Real lose 1-3 to their cross-town rivals. Volman and his team did travel to California to lift the Club World Championship after beating Mexican team América 2-0, and got to the final by beating Koreans Suwon, but the results were not as inspiring as some of those of previous years. Despite all this, Volman is Very Secure.

Concluding the report with news on some cups; one domestic, one European and one international. In addition to the aforementioned Napoli and Udinese winning in the Coppa Italia First Round, James Salter’s Reggina won 2-1 at Palermo, and Inter and Fiorentina also won. Inter face Napoli, Udinese face Lazio and Fiorentina face Reggina in the Quarter Final, with A.C. Milan playing Juventus. In the Champions League, Man City will play Inter in the most appealing tie of the Round of 16. Barcelona play A.C. Milan, Tottenham play Bayern Munich, Arsenal play Galatasaray and Real Madrid play PSV Eindhoven in the other fixtures involving our teams. And finally, the World Cup next summer is all set to go, with the groups having been drawn. A full group rundown will come in the tournament preview after this season has finished, but there is good- to mid-strength through, generally. For instance, Brazil don’t have any superstar opponents, but there are no walkovers either: Croatia, Egypt and Mexico are in their group. Saul Goode’s Wales have a tough time, with their opponents being Ecuador, Portugal and South Korea. Cameroon, the Czech Republic, the United States and Uruguay looks the most open group. Current number one team France are expected to blitz their opponents: Iran, Peru and Russia.

We have stumbled carelessly into 2014, and also over the 2000 days threshold. With three managers currently in danger, the odds are actually rather good that at least one of them will go next month. Of course, whenever we get into a situation like this I go crazy with anticipation in predicting a sacking, but this time…there might just be one.

Manager of the Update

Two clear-cut contenders this month, and so;

Tyler Burrows, Udinese

gets the award seeing as the last time he fought for this with Tom Smith, I gave it to Smith. Udinese have had a great month in three competitions, and trump Smith even though Arsenal did not concede a single goal. There’s some real quality on show by the remaining managers, making it more and more difficult to choose a Manager of the Update.

Cardio walks warily down the street, with the brim pulled way down low. Ain’t no sound but the sound of his feet, machine guns ready to go. Out of the doorway the bullets rip, to the sound of the beat! ♪ ♫ ♪ Another one bites the dust! ♪ ♫ ♪ Another one bites the dust! And another one gone, and another one gone – another one bites the dust! Hey, I’m gonna get you too – another one bites the dust!

Another one has well and truly bitten the dust, and if you hadn’t already guessed, it was Cardio Vascular of Genoa. Nostradamus was right in that when the 14th managers gets sacked the 13th would quickly follow, and this sacking sees Italy’s strength in numbers drop slightly. Just 12 remain to fight for the 60 to One title! A 2-2 draw at home to Catania in the very first game of the month was all that was necessary for the board to dismiss Vascular, and ironically they hired the Catania manager as his replacement. Our other two managers who were in danger last month are currently safe, and if they are lucky they can make it until the end of the season.

Elsewhere in Italy, your hopes of a decent title upset will have taken a blow this month, with Mikey Twigge’s Palermo plummeting down to fourth place, leaving title-holders Ben Cee’s Inter to pick up the pieces. Winning just two out of five games, and losing the other three, meant that Twigge lost his Very Secure status, although his team still sit three places above their predicted position. Inter have fully capitalised and now have a six-point lead at the top of Serie A, winning every game this month with the minimum of fuss. Empoli were beaten 5-0 in the first game of the month and Catania 3-0 in the second, but results got a bit closer towards the end. Cup progression was also secured with a 1-0 win over Napoli. In second place are Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina, who amassed three wins and a draw this month, but mucked up their unbeaten record by losing 1-3 at Juventus at the end of the month. They also made the Coppa Italia semifinal by thrashing Reggina 4-1. They will face Udinese and Inter will face Juventus for a place in the final.

But your hopes of a decent title upset in Spain are still going strong, even if the race is still tight. Atlético Madrid lost their first game this month, but Valencia remain unbeaten. Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona sit one point behind them in second place, having secured ten points from twelve this month. It was they who were responsible for Atlético’s loss, defeating the team from the capital 4-1. Barcelona also made their way to the Copa del Rey semifinal, beating Racing 3-1 on aggregate and Mallorca 6-1 on aggregate. Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid are 4th in the league but nine point separate them and 3rd-placed Atlético. They did slightly worse than Barca this month, securing nine points from twelve, with the loss coming against Valencia. They also made their way into the cup semifinal, beating Sporting 5-1 and Athletic 7-0. They will face rivals Atlético while Barcelona will face Getafe.

Of course January is transfer month, and there were quite a few transfers of interest in this window. Lord Weeman’s Napoli flexed some monetary muscle, bringing in Sporting CP’s Marquinhos for £13.25M and Aston Villa’s Olexandr Chyzhov for £11M, as well as Antonio Floro Flores for £4.7M from Maz Armley’s Sevilla. At Inter, Ben Cee sold Freddy Adu to Valencia for £27M in what was the joint-biggest transfer of the month, bringing in regen Peter Jansen for £11.25M from Stuttgart. The other £27M transfer was Udinese’s Carlos Vela joining Roma. Liam Ferguson raised a bit of money, most likely for a splurge in the summer, selling João Moutinho to Chelsea, Charles Kaboré to Lyon and Jorge Valdivia to Atlético Madrid for a combined £26.75M. At Fiorentina, Ben Taylor made two major incoming transfers, buying Tales from A.C. Milan for £8.5M and Cheick Diabaté from Roma for £9.5M. Palermo, Real Madrid and Barcelona all made outgoing transfers of around the £7M mark.

Kudos to José Mourinho and Man United, as they managed to end Arsenal’s 17-game unbeaten run (of which 16 were wins) this month, winning 2-0 at Old Trafford. That’s not to say Tom Smith had a poor month: his team still lead the Premier League, but he managed just one win from four this month, drawing the other two. Yet progression in the FA Cup was secured easily, as Martin Bojangles’s Aston Villa were thrashed 5-0 at the Emirates, and Neppo Monster’s Bolton were thrashed 3-1 in the same location. Holders Liverpool await in the Fifth Round. Liam Ferguson’s Man City also made it to the Fifth Round with two 4-1 wins, over Swansea and Leicester. A Carling Cup final was also secured with two 1-0 wins over Newcastle, and 11 points from 15 were achieved this month, including a 3-0 victory over Leo Dodge’s Tottenham. Hull await in the FA Cup Fifth Round and Cool Manager’s Liverpool await in the Carling Cup final. Tottenham won their other three league games, all 2-0, including a victory over Chelsea at White Hart Lane. Yet a cup run does not look on the cards: a narrow 1-0 victory at Scunthorpe was followed by a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Even if Spurs do win the replay, they then travel to Newcastle and don’t look like a team in form. Nevertheless, they are 5th in the league, but are seven points behind Man United, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

I think it’s likely we’ve finished our spell of sackings, and it should be a fairly easy ride for the managers until the end of the season. Lecce’s potential relegation might see their manager sacked, but he has a valid reason and could be kept on. Still, the World Cup is approaching – what more excitement do you need?

I feel bad for giving this award to;

Liam Ferguson, Man City

as Ben Cee also had a good shot at it and he doesn’t win it very often. But Ferguson’s high performance in multiple areas gives the Man City boss the title. He maintained solid form in the league while progressing in two cup competitions, one of which sees him as runner-up at worst, and he also made a neat profit in selling some unwanted players. At Inter, Cee took the initiative with a very strong performance allowing for seizure of the top spot, but I think Ferguson’s versatility just nabs him this one.

All of our managers made it through February unscathed, and in fact there were no sackings or manager exits in any of the loaded divisions. That doesn’t mean that the month was bereft of action, and it is to Spain that we go to witness the first of that action.

Unfortunately for the neutrals and for the Valencia fans, Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona have opened up a five point lead on Valencia at the top of the La Liga table. Valencia’s unbeaten record was marred this month by two losses, one to Barcelona and the other to Zaragoza. Madridstas’s side, on the other hand, won every game, including that 3-1 Valencia win, but also 5-2 at home to Betis and 4-0 away to Elche. But people looking for an upset in Spain are given hope by Real Madrid’s current 5th place. They are only one point behind Zaragoza, but with any luck for the neutrals, Lucas Volman’s team might miss out on Champions League football next season. That is, of course, assuming they don’t win it this year. They actually had three very good wins this month, including a 6-1 dismantling of Real Sociedad and a 5-0 one of Gimnàstic, but they drew at home to Sporting to drop two points. Both Spanish teams also took part in the first leg of the Copa del Rey Semi Final, with Real Madrid beating Atlético 2-1 and Barcelona beating Getafe 1-0. It is close and the underdogs could certainly win it in their home grounds.

Mikey Twigge’s Palermo have suffered complete meltdown, and after having let their first-place position slip, they have fallen further and now sit outside the Champions League spots in Serie A. This month, one win, two draws and one loss were their reward, although they did beat Standard Liege 4-1 at home to progress 5-2 on aggregate to the Europa League Round of 16. Tyler Burrows’s Udinese are sneaking up on them in the league, though, winning three and losing one this month, including a 1-0 victory over Inter, but losing in the Europa League Round of 32, 1-2 to Lyon. Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina won every game this month, conceding exactly one goal in all four of them. Atalanta and Catania were beaten 4-1 at home, Empoli 5-1 away and Parma 2-1 at home.

The first leg of all the Champions League Round of 16 matches has been played. Man City lead Ben Cee’s Inter two goals to one after said result in England, while Tottenham won their home game 2-0 over Bayern Munich. Arsenal are 0-1 down following their trip to Turkey and to Galatasaray, but it is nothing but sweet success for our Spanish teams: Barcelona lead A.C. Milan 3-0 and travel to Italy next week, and Real Madrid lead PSV Eindhoven 2-0 and stay in Spain next week. Porto and Man United and Ajax and Atlético Madrid are drawing 1-1, while Valencia won 3-2 at Werder Bremen.

In England, the situation remains very much unchanged. Arsenal still top the Premier League, going unbeaten this month but drawing at home to Robert Boyle’s Newcastle, with Manchester City nine points behind. Leo Dodge’s Tottenham are still in 5th place, but three draws and a win this month have opened the gap between them and Champions League football, and so Manchester United lead them by eight points. Both Arsenal and Man City cleared the FA Cup 5th Round, the former 1-0 over Liverpool and the latter 3-0 over Hull. Man City versus West Ham and Arsenal versus Everton await in the 6th Round.

So no managers are in trouble at the moment. All eyes turn towards Brazil where, in a few short months’ time, the World Cup will kick off.

Manager of the Update

An underrated manager gets this month’s award.

Ben Taylor, Fiorentina

wins it and to be honest there wasn’t that much competition. While there were a lot of decent months, Taylor won all his games, which was not something that could be said for many other managers. Haowan Madridstas offered the biggest threat to Taylor winning this award, but Taylor gets it for his silent and stealthy good management.

Update 69

Another busy month has been completed in our three leagues, but situations have remained pretty much unchanged.

For instance, in Italy, Ben Cee’s Inter still lead the way, and Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina are still hot on their heels. Both have 70 points, with 22 games won and four each drawn and lost, and this month Inter won three, drew one and lost one. Napoli were their undoing, and the Singaporean’s team were at home as well, while the biggest win was the 3-0 home victory over Frosinone. In addition, a tentative 2-1 lead is held over Juventus following the first leg of the Coppa Italia Semi Final. Fiorentina actually went unbeaten this month, and the only points they did drop were in hosting Inter. A 4-0 win at Mikey Twigge’s Palermo, who have crashed to 7th after early form vanished, as well as wins over Livorno, Lazio and Genoa, secured Taylor 13 points in March. He also had a good cup excursion: drawing 2-2 at Udinese sets up a nice aggregate victory with the home leg.

And believers in Valencia being able to snatch the La Liga title are now self-declared loons, but there is a chance of an upset in Real Madrid not qualifying for the Champions League. Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona have carved out such an impressive lead at the top of the Spanish league, boasting 11 points more than 2nd-placed Valencia. They won every single game this month, league-wise at least. Real Sociedad were beaten 3-1, Sporting and Gimnàstic were beaten 3-0, Villarreal were beaten 4-1 and Las Palmas were beaten 4-0. A 0-2 loss at A.C. Milan was not enough to knock the Catalonians out of the Champions League, with the Spaniards progressing 3-2 on aggregate, and a 1-1 draw at Getafe in the Copa del Rey sees Madridstas’s team in the final with a 2-1 aggregate win. Real Madrid, meanwhile, faltered again, picking up one win from four and drawing the other three, and losing 1-3 at Atlético to lose the cup Semi Final 3-4.

In what is a bad omen for Roy Hodgson’s real-life team, Fulham couldn’t overcome HSV in their Europa League Round of 16 tie. A 3-1 home win was marred by a 0-3 away defeat, sending the Germans into the Quarter Finals. Cool Manager’s Liverpool thrashed NK Dinamo of Croatia 7-0 at Anfield, drawing 2-2 in Zagreb to make a 9-2 win. Lawrence Lazewski’s Chelsea scored two 1-0 victories to knock out Dynamo Kiev, but our team in the competition: Mikey Twigge’s Palermo, travelled to Russia to draw 1-1 with Zenit St. Petersburg. A 0-0 draw in Italy sent Twigge’s team through on away goals. They face Liverpool in the Last Eight, while Celtic meet Tim Aubel’s Portsmouth, Schalke meet HSV in an all-German encounter, and Zaragoza meet Chelsea. In the Champions League, Real Madrid thrashed PSV Eindhoven 4-0 for a 6-0 aggregate win, Arsenal overcame their 0-1 deficit against Galatasary by winning 6-0 at the Emirates, Tottenham drew 0-0 in Munich to send out Bayern 2-0, and Man City secured the double header with a second 2-1 win, this time at Inter. Atlético Madrid, Man United, Valencia and, of course, Barcelona, also made the Quarter Finals. There’s one all-Spanish meeting, a repeat of the Copa del Rey Semi Final with Atlético playing Real, one all-English meeting, a North London derby, and two half-Spanish half-English meetings, with Barcelona playing Man City and Valencia playing Man United.

Our foray into England will commence with the Carling Cup final. 89,994 fans packed Wembley as Cool Manager’s Liverpool and Liam Ferguson’s Man City met. It didn’t take long for the action to commence, with Frenchman Yannis Tafer giving City the lead 7 minutes in. Six minutes subsequent to that, the scores were brought level again thanks to Martin Skrtel. But then just five minutes later, City were on top once more, Vagner Love placing the ball into the net. The Brazilian got a second goal just short of the hour mark, and that was enough to finish off Liverpool for a 3-1 victory. Ferguson’s league form has also been impressive, with 15 points picked up from a possible 15. The month started with a 3-1 win at Fratton Park just after the trip to Wembley, which was then followed by a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham in the FA Cup 6th Round. Wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds followed, with the 4-1 replay victory coming inbetween those two. The month was concluded with a 4-0 demolition of visiting Everton and a 2-0 win at Hull. Chelsea await in the FA Cup Semi Final after the Pensioners saw off Birmingham City.

This superb league form was necessary to chase down leaders Arsenal. Tom Smith’s side slipped up once in their four league games this month, although they did qualify for the FA Cup Semi Final at the first time of asking, beating Everton 2-1 to set up a Wembley game with José Mourinho’s Man United. 2-1, 3-1 and 4-1 were the scorelines in Arsenal’s victories over Bolton, West Brom and Lawrence Lazewski’s Chelsea, but Leo Dodge’s Tottenham won the North London derby at White Hart Lane, that win making up three of their 10 points this month. That was 3-2, as was their other London match at Fulham, while Blackburn were beaten 1-0 at home. Martin Bojangles’s Aston Villa offered resistance, drawing 2-2 in Birmingham. In other London news, Crystal Palace sacked Mick McCarthy and hired James Ridley as his replacement. With a look at the English Premier League, Arsenal lead Man City by three points, and with both having played the same number of games now. Tottenham are 11 points adrift of a Champions League spot with just 18 up for grabs.

Venturing back over to Italy to conclude the report, where Super Lampard’s Lecce are in some strife. The Englishman is currently Insecure with his team sitting 18th, six points behind safety and Frosinone, albeit with an extra game to play. They didn’t win a single game this month, but host Frosinone in their next, a real six-pointer. James Salter’s Reggina are 15th, having won 2-1 at Genoa, drawn with Torino but lost their other two games. They also have a game in hand, by virtue of the fact that the game yet to be played is between them and Lecce. Meanwhile, in 5th place are Lord Weeman’s Napoli. They of course got that win over Inter this month, and they also won three of their other four games, with a 4-1 win over Lazio and slightly smaller ones over Torino and Lecce. Udinese were their undoing, as Napoli travelled to play them and lost 1-2.

Super Lampard is Insecure again. With his team predicted to finish 15th, if he does get relegated, what will become of him. Will the Lecce board allow him to try his hand at promotion? Or will he become the 49th 60 to One casualty? The end of the season approaches.

Liam Ferguson, Man City

who secured a trophy and won every single league game, as well as winning 2-1 in Italy to achieve Champions League progression. It was a truly magnificent performance, and the competitors for the award, namely Ben Taylor, Haowan Madridstas and Tom Smith, were not able to succeed on as many different fronts. Well deserved, although everyone put in a good effort this month.

Update 70

Years: 5, Months: 70, Days: 2123

The season has rolled ever closer to its conclusion, and the managers have totted up 70 months of management. Some relegations and one title winner have already been confirmed, so without further ado we will plunge ourselves into the 60 to One report for April.

Let us start with the Champions League, in which three sets of matches were played. Barcelona’s 2-1 home victory was enough to send out Liam Ferguson’s Man City, with the second leg being a 1-1 draw in Manchester. The other Manchester team also went out, with Valencia beating José Mourinho’s side 3-0 at home to counteract their 0-2 loss at Old Trafford. Unlike in the Copa del Rey, Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid trounced their opponents Atlético, with a 1-1 draw at Atlético being followed by a 4-0 home victory. Finally, Arsenal won the North London derby with two 1-0 victories and constitute the only English side in the Semi Final. Already a spot in the final looks very achievable, although Barcelona did get an away goal in the Gunners’ 3-1 victory at the Emirates. Valencia and Real Madrid drew 0-0 at the Mestalla, meaning Real are also looking likely to be finalists in an attempt to win the elite competition for the third consecutive time.

April also saw the Europa League Quarter Finals played, where HSV knocked out Schalke 2-1 on aggregate, Celtic knocked out Tim Aubel’s Portsmouth 3-2 on aggregate, and Zaragoza matched Celtic’s scoreline in their win over Lawrence Lazewski’s Chelsea. Mikey Twigge’s Palermo travelled to Anfield where they lost 0-2 courtesy of goals from Artem Milevskyi and Jozy Altidore, but the return to Renzo Barbera was fruitful for Twigge’s side. The aggregate scoreline was level before half time with a stoppage time equaliser from Roberto Guana, and just as it looked like the match would go to penalties, a 117th-minute winner turned Davide Lanzafame into a hero. Celtic await in the Semi Final, while HSV meet Zaragoza.

In Spain, Gimnàstic already find themselves relegated, but no one is really bothered about that, except perhaps the 14,106 fans that make up their average attendance. Everyone is focused on Barcelona’s near-capture of the title, and the belief in Valencia’s ability to finish first is waning fast. Once again the biggest chance of an upset is the hope that Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid will finish 5th, but they now lie only four points behind Zaragoza, and if they win the Champions League it will all become meaningless. They actually did the same as last month in April, winning only one game and drawing all the others. They beat Elche 2-0 to pick up a total of 7 points from 15. Zaragoza, however, picked up just six, with two victories. At the top, Barcelona’s being part of Volman’s crazy draw-every-game plan was the only reason they dropped any points. Sevilla were beaten 5-1 and Málaga 4-0 as part of four wins from five this month. Valencia won all their games so close the gap by two points to seven.

Spain isn’t the only country with some relegations confirmed. Sheffield Wednesday, having been struggling all season and not moved off the table’s bottom since game number five, fell on April 5th, while West Ham were relegated on April 26th. Pierluigi Casiraghi promptly lost his job and Brettney Joven was his replacement. She’ll be hoping to prove that women aren’t just one-hit wonders. In fact, our two women weren’t even one-hit wonders, with Joven herself losing her job after 320 days, and Lisa Jeffries parting company with Juventus after 925. Bolton sit in 18th and will go down if Fulham and West Brom can keep clear.

But once again, it is the top end that interests us most, where Tom Smith secured his 10th trophy, a fourth Premier League. Sheffield Wednesday, Everton and Leeds were beaten this month, the latter two 3-0 victories at the Emirates, and a 0-0 draw at the City of Manchester Stadium saw Man City’s only chance to catch up wasted. Of course, Smith also secured Champions League progression and beat Barcelona 3-1 in the first leg of the Last Four, but it isn’t all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, in that Man United knocked the Gunners out of the FA Cup 1-0 in the Semi Final at Wembley. Man City also crashed out, with Chelsea beating them 3-0, and they had a generally torrid month, winning one from four in the league, as well as of course that Champions League exit to Barcelona. Leo Dodge’s Tottenham now lie just five points behind fourth-placed Man United, but only six points are claimable. This month, a 1-0 victory over Mourinho’s visting side was great for closing the gap, and while a 2-2 draw at Anfield might usually be considered a good result, the fans would have wanted more. The Tyne-Tees duo of Middlesbrough then Newcastle make up Spurs’ next two opponents, while the Red Devils travel the five miles to play their cross-town rivals, and then host 12th-placed Everton.

At last we move over to Italy, where an alarming thing has happened: Inter have slipped up and Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina are closing in on the title. Admittedly, the lead is only one point, but that might be a point that Ben Cee can never anull. Fiorentina won three and drew two of their five games, with a combined scoreline of 11-3, while Inter won three, drew one and lost one. They also lost 0-1 at Juventus to leave the Coppa Italia 2-2 on away goals, while Fiorentina beat Udinese 2-1 for a 4-3 victory. Mikey Twigge’s Palermo have done well to recover lost ground and ascend back up to 5th this month. They won all four games with a medley of different scorelines, while sixth-placed Napoli could only win one of their five, drawing and losing two each. James Salter’s Reggina had a good month and currently sit in 13th place, beating Lecce, Udinese and Frosinone, drawing with Napoli and Fiorentina and losing narrowly to Bryan McGuinness’s Roma. Meanwhile, Super Lampard’s decisive game with Frosinone was won by the visitors, Frosinone, 4-0! That scoreline was matched by Fiorentina two games later, with Reggina’s 3-2 win in between. A.C. Milan and Roma both visited, and both won, and then a trip to 8th-placed Sampdoria saw Delio Rossi’s side win 4-1. With an 11-game losing streak, matching that of bottom-placed Catania who ended theirs with a win in the final game of this month, Lecce are relegated, and Lampard finds himself out of a job. He gave 2119 days of service to Lecce, but this meltdown was too much for the board to take, and they told the 46-year-old where to go.

Just 11 managers remain. One more is in danger. Who will have survived season number six? You can only find out next month, when it is completed.

Meanwhile, Ben Taylor seized the initiative at the top of Serie A, Haowan Madridstas strolled ever-closer to La Liga success but suffered at the hands of Arsenal, and Tom Smith won the Premier League but got knocked out of the FA Cup.
