••• FM 2011 Commentary Pack V6 •••

Current version: 6

Released: Tuesday 2nd August 2011

New lines added for this release: 150

Version 7 release is scheduled for: Thursday 1st September 2011

New lines added for Version 7 (so far): 0

What is this?

This pack replaces the original ‘events’ file in FM 2011 with changed commentary lines that display at the foot of the screen on match days. It’s an on-going project which has the ultimate aim of replacing the original lines that are provided with the original Sports Interactive FM 2011 game.

What language(s) is it written in?

Currently, the pack contains English commentary only and it will not work if any other languages are selected for your game play. We would like to be able to issue the pack as a multi-language one but translating the lines is beyond our capability.

Will this work with earlier versions of Football Manager?

The short answer is probably not. The longer answer is that if you are using FM 2009 for example, the game can’t read the extra lines included in FM 2011. This might cause your game to crash as a consequence. If anyone would like the commentary pack adapting for earlier versions, just PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Can I suggest some lines for inclusion?

Yes of course you can, and please feel free to do so. We would ask that any submissions be kept clean and non-racist or offensive in any way. Also, try to avoid events that may be happening in the real football world today as, whilst they may be apt and funny now, they will quickly become outdated and inappropriate.

Does this mean I can’t ask for “They think it’s all over” for example, to be added?

Something of this nature is different and has to be considered a classic football quote so yes, this kind of thing would be okay to submit.

Please bear in mind though that, owing to the structure of the events config itself, it may not be possible to include some suggestions. As an example, asking for lines that relate to the start of the second half are not possible as there are no original lines for this in the game. Generally speaking, we can only change lines, not add them if they don’t already exist.

Do I have to start a new game to use this?

No you don’t. Once you have it installed, all you have to do is load up Football Manager and the new lines will show up.

Do I have to install any previous updates first then this one?

No you don’t. Each update includes all the previous ones so you only ever need to install the current version available to use the pack.

Sounds good, where can I get it from?

I've been getting some messages from users who have been pointing out that, for them, the Half and Full Time comments are too long. They'd rather just 'get on with it' and for some, the Half/Full Time comments have reluctantly put them off using the pack.

By contrast, I've had equal praise over the Half/Full Time comments and I've seen them referred to as 'genius'. So, the camp seems to be split down the middle regarding this issue and I didn't want to lean one way or the other on this as it would please some but disappoint others. So, I have produced two versions of the commentary. One is the 'regular' one with extended Half/Full Time comments and the alternate one - with shortened Half/Full Time comments - is available from here:

I hope this will go some way to appease both camps. Please note that, apart from the Half/Full Time comments, there is no difference between the two packs.

Additionally, and briefly, I've been asked if I'd include some or all of the original Sports Interactive commentary lines in future packs as some users miss them. Well, it's up to you on this one. Should I include them or not? Let me know how you feel about it will you?

I like your work, keep it up!

Thanks mate. I'm already working on V7. Main focus for this version, apart from additional lines, is reworking the Report and Replay lines. In total, I've done about 100 lines so far. Still plenty to do though!

Why is this file so small? The original is about 18 mb and this file is only 3 mb............whats missing, have you took lots out to stop the fun so much?

Other languages I suppose.

Yes, you're correct mate. As I've stated in the blurb "Currently, the pack contains English commentary only". Because I've stripped out the other languages, this reduces the size of the resulting file.

One thing that keeps irritating me, is that each time you make a new (and even better) update, theres a new post.

Couldn't you perhaps just update the existing post, so that we don't miss out on new ones?

Add 'Mind Reading' to your CV mate! From the next update (version 7), all future releases will be contained in a single thread updated accordingly. I totally agree that new posts can cause some confusion so that's why I'm opting for the singular thread.

I have a suggestion for v.7.

I think all the lines about managers of other clubs being in the stands would sound much more believable if managers were to be replaced by scouts. The reason being that while the Liverpool manager watching a Stoke game is absolutely legit, a Russian Division 2 club manager watching a game in the Brasilian Rio de Janeiro state championships looks weird, to say the least.

It's a fine idea and one which I'd support but unfortunately, I can't see any way this could be done properly.

Whilst there is the facility to have managers present at a match, there's no coding for scouts. For example you have '<t3> boss <m3> is in the stands today' - which could read in game as 'Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is in the stands today' but there's no tag for scouts that I'm aware of.

Perhaps you can change this into ''<t3> scout is in the stands today'', which should work just fine.

Yes, that'd work. I was meaning there's no facility to have a scout's name appear in the commentary as do manager's names.

I can't see any harm in giving this a try though so yes, I'll experiment altering those lines and probably include them in a future version.

I've followed the path for the Steam version, but when I check my game version it's 11.3.0 yet I don't have the following path: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\updates\update-1130\events.

I have C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2011\data\updates\update-1110\events

Will it still work? If not is there a way around it? Like adding a folder?

Thanks

INGAME ENGLISH: ••• Half Time •••|<t> really mean business today|They may be the underdogs but they are looking more than a match for <t> so far

The two <t>s refer to different teams here so they shouldn't be identical.

Spotted this one a couple of days ago and corrected it for the next version. Thanks for reporting it though mate and any other errors you might encounter.

I am trying to install the update using the boxed version of the game with the 11.3 update.

I keep getting an error saying :

C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\Events Version 6.rar Cannot create events.cfg access is denied

C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\Events Version 6.rar No files to extract.

Any solutions?

Sounds like you're trying to install it without extracting the events file first hence the error messages.
