FM11's Version of The Danny Roberts Challenge.

FM08's "The Danny Roberts Challenge : Difficulty GODLIKE (Part 2)"

FM09's "The Danny Roberts Challenge : Difficulty GODLIKE (Part 3)"

The FM10 Danny Roberts Challenge

The main idea behind the Danny Roberts challenge, is to have 1 player score 1,000 goals for club and country under your management. There are no rules as to how you attain the player, although the editor MUST NOT be used. Season reports of potential challengers are encouraged.

During the past 4 incarnations of the game, a fair few players have gone on to achieve the feat of scoring 1,000 + goals. It is widely known that Roberts is regarded as the most amazing player of all to achieve the landmark, due to the fact he scored all 1,000+ club goals in the Premiership under the management of dafuge.

Feel free to enter in as many as possible, and we'll keep more of a track of the entries and goals in this thread, and compile some top 10's as the thread progresses.

As far as I know, there were no players that completed the challenge in FM09 (although I know some are close, and still going) - but FM08 was ripe with 1,000 goal scorers.

Challenge Rules :

This challenge can be attempted while playing any other challenges. So those of you having a crack at Gundo's, Rancers, canvey!!'s or dafuge's Challenge that come across a fantastic prospect for this challenge, feel free to come in and post your updates.

Use of an EDITOR is not permitted, unless the use is ONLY for league editing. Should there be any potential evidence to assume foul play with regards to this rule, the rule will be revoked, and no editing will be allowed. Please don't take ruin this for others by cheating.

Any player involved in this challenge MUST score the goals under human management. Therefore, if you have Player A and Club X and he scores 500 goals, then you move clubs, the player only has 500 goals towards the tally. If you buy the player and take him with you, and he scores 500 more, this will make his 1,000. If you do not buy him and he scores 500 more, this DOES NOT count towards the Challenge Tally and must not be added into final totals.

International Goals count either under Human, OR AI management.

Friendly International Goals DO Count.

Friendly Club Goals DO NOT Count.

Screenshots are encouraged where possible.

Good to see this thread is back, I'm still ambling along with Keirrison so I shall post the updates in here when I finally get around to them :p The first post does need updating a bit, Roberts isn't the only player to complete the challenge in the premiership anymore, and we definitely had some complete the challenge on FM09 :D

I'm hoping to have another stab at this on this years. It's getting increasingly harder and harder, especially since I manage in the premiership but I would like a 500 goal career striker for this version, that wouldn't be all too shabby but its so hard to spot good young strikers before they're 19/20 now (for me at least) and its such a loss not having the chance to mould them before then.

Loved the FM10 version of this thread, even if any of my players never got close. Was always keenly following the top goal-scorers and it was definitely very interesting to watch.

Dynamic league reputation might make it tricky now though for another player of Smylie or Spence's standard to dominate in a way which they did in FM08.

The hunt to find the Welsh Danny Roberts!

For my attempt at the Danny Roberts challenge...I have found a player I want to do it, he is better then David Stewart was at 16!!!(For David Stewart, see the Youth Player Project.)

Introducing Gareth Evans.

My aim is to hit double figures this season which he should do. Will also make him take penalties as well to help increase his goal tally.

Link to post

He is also a traitor, I didn't realise he was dual nationality untill he was capped by the England U21's.

Although he has started on fire.....scored 9 in 3. He is playing up front with David Stewart who has 9 in 4.

Very well rounded for 16, if you keep hold of him I'll be amazed. Hows he going though this thread has fallen silent. I have a young stare coming through at Stoke, a turkish player by the name of Yetkin Tosun, however, I don't think he's quite up to the mark but I will post some updates if he manages a couple of 40 goal seasons before he's 21.

Link to post

It crashed dumped in December, he had hit 20 goals. I do have a backup but its back at the start of the season so will have to do it again.

Edit: Restarted the season, Evans hit 2 on his debut. Also his strike partner hit his 499th,500th, 501st and 502nd goal in the game (Dave Stewart...Age 26)

I have an 18 year old wonderkid in the Premier League, but I'll be happy with him getting 100!

EDIT: Just checked:

Wolves - 32 games, 20 goals (26 games, 14 goals in League only)

Boston Utd (me) - 40 games, 19 goals (21 games, 12 goals in League only)

Obviously, only the Boston goals count in the challenge.

To reach a thousand in the premiership a player needs to be on target to do it by the age of about 31 (the decline may just be too much by then) so with an 18 year old you'd need to clear 76 goals per season on average. In some lesser competitive leagues, like Ireland and so you have from whenever you get them until closer to and if you can keep them playing, beyond 40. Also with more games, against easier opposition (in terms of domestic football at least).

Do you have to take a manual note of a players cup goals for each season?

I have a young player who I think will be amazing, he's had a couple fo seasons but when I check his history I only see his league goals. FM11 by the way.

The hunt to find the Welsh Danny Roberts!

Gareth Evans.

End of Season 1

A briliant first season from the rookie, he is currently being tutored by my leading striker David Stewart who is the clubs all time top scorer. It took Stewart nearly 4 seasons to hit 67 goals for the club so he is well on his way!!

Season Club Division Appearances Goals Assists MOTM AV.R
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2026/27 Bridgend Welsh Prem 51 67 46 8 8.68

David Stewart has 679 goals in the save (637 for Bridgend and 42 for Wales!) but not sure whether to put him in here as well seeing as he is in the youth project thread.

That is the most annoying statistical part missing in all FM's. I don't know why they can't expand the player history page to show all data, like the one in the bottom of the player details screen.

Only 6 goals in 29 appearances in first season but with his attributes i think he should be able to get 500 plus for everton. Will probably then move myself to a smaller team and try to sign him. Might need to keep his wages relatively low for that.

Right, I'll be attempting this with a star that's come up through my youth academy. He needs some serious work on a few attributes (technique, first touch, jumping and natural fitness) but I'm hoping that he can do it. Here's his attributes from his first appearance.

Michael Wilson Season 1 Summary

screenshot20110403at225.png

He surpassed all expectations, his performances in Europe were particularly pleasing where he got top scorer and in the team of the year. He also scored a hat trick in the league cup final. Next season he'll be getting even more game time as I start to move Torres out of the first team. He still has 2 England games to play yet, but overall, very pleased with his first season.

long way to go...i think i may need to buy some greek youngsters to improve the national team. Luckily i'm starting in the 1st qualifying round of euro cup so should be a big season there!

I don't think i've ever had a regen striker whose both good in air and quick. Only other player to match his speed + jumping in game = Cavani. Any thoughts on which area i should train him in?

Focus on his mental attributes, his Off The Ball is still a bit low, as is his anticipation. Getting those two attributes up a few points would help him get into much better scoring positions.

Thanks. I thought eveyone would suggest the obvious- finishing. He does seem to have lacked the ability to get into the right positions to make use of his jumping/heading ability but is coming on. Off the ball is up to 14 as of 1 October but anticipation still 12. Made the change...decreased his attacking, aerobics and strength to focus on mental.

edit: (His) season 5 over. The euro cup qualifiers helped. He didn't really score that many more in the league.

His finishing is already good, not world class, but still. Another thing I'd suggest would be asking him to learn the PPM 'Shoots with power', based on this thread.

I did but he failed to learn it. Guess i can ask him again. Was considering asking to round the keeper as well. Yeah seems a waste to improve his creativity, crossing, passing they all good enough. Would be nice if he could reach 20 for heading.

Just a little update on Michael Wilson, he's just hit the best patch of form in his career. Here's his attributes and his form:

screenshot20110410at222.png

As you can see, 10 goals in 3 games, and a few assists, helping the team to 20 goals in 3 games. He's being worshiped as a 'god-like figure' by my fans and is now on their favoured personnel.

Hey guys, just joined this thread, loving the idea.

I've got this young gunner here:

http://img816.imageshack.us/i/prouault14.png/

I have serious faith in him, he's already bagged 8 in 11 for me in the league and its only November, even with 4 of these being penalties. Any advice on which formation would be best suited to a lone striker formation, and what works for young guys?

Michael Wilson Season 2015/16

screenshot20110419at210.png

He took over as the main striker from Torres after around a month or two, and as you can see, 66 goals in all competitions this year, absolute dynamite and on his way to the 1000 goal challenge. What's great about him is that he really has everything, his goals come from everywhere. Even though his jumping isn't great, he's a bit like Owen, he still scores headers as he's in the right place to get a free run, he's got the pace to go in behind and the strength and balance to hold it up. Here's a selection of his goals, so you can see the kinds of goals he scores:

The Linekar

His standard sort of goal, right place at the right time for a tap in.

The Messi

He's done a few of these, even though his dribbling isn't fantastic, he still manages it.

The Gerrard

Sometimes he even pulls one of these out of the bag

He's now a club icon, and well on his way to legend. Internationally, he's doing brilliantly, and we're still in Euro 2016, with the quarter finals to come against Slovenia, so hopefully we can go all the way propelled by his goals. Great, great player

Quality goals Bracken. How are you setting him up to play tactically?

Always wanted to try this challenge but never quite found a striker prolific enough. My best effort is a striker called Michel Vermeer, who plays for my St. Albans City team in the year 2030, and tends to get 50+ a season but it's not quite enough to get anywhere near the 1,000 mark over his career.

Do people tend to play with two forwards, with one in support of their main striker? Take it that most are using the 'poacher' role or something like that?
