radestock Posted November 20, 2009 Share Posted November 20, 2009 Hi everybody There are certain occasions where 2D kit graphics you add may not work even though they config.xml file appears to be in order. Some kits will work whilst others may not (even away kits or third kits for teams where the home kits DO work). There is thankfully a fairly simple fix for this problem. Why does it happen? Football Manager has the ability in the database to set a 'special' kit for a certain season. Think about how teams might have a different coloured kit for their centenary year for instance. Somehow during compilation of the database, this ability gets enabled for some teams even though it shouldn't be. If a team has a 'special kit' set for a particular season then Football Manager will ignore any kit added by the user with the regular type line in the config.xml file so your added kit will not show. How can I fix it? Lets look at an example. In the regular format Arsenal's home kit will have a line in the config.xml file that looks like the following: <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home"/> However, Arsenal's home kit is set as a 'special kit' in the database so the above bit of code won't work. To get it to work you need to add "2009" to the line of code so it looks like this: <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2009"/> Note that the "record from=" part might have a different name rather than the team's unique ID depending on what thecreator chose to call his/her picture files. It's been noticed that for some kits you need to change the year as you advance in actual FM game years. So when you enter the 2010/2011 season you'll need to change the 2009 to 2010. You can also just have a block of config lines in the same file to avoid this. So say to make sure the Arsenal home kit worked for 5 games years, you could add the following to the config file: <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2009"/> <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2010"/> <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2011"/> <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2012"/> <record from="602" to="graphics/pictures/team/602/kits/home/2013"/> This might not be necessary for all kits though. At the same time some teams kit's might work fine and then require a year adding to them as you advance in FM game years. How you can help Now, I'm too busy to go through each league myself and check things so I'm after a bit of help. If you've installed kits and noticed an issue then please can you leave a post with the following details: Team and Kit that requires a year added: e.g. Arsenal Home Year that needs adding to config line: e.g. 2009 Do other years need adding as the game year changes? Does it happen only in a certain season etc: Some Teams/Kits & required changes Here are some of the more obvious problems, alphabetical by Country with International teams at the end... For example I know it used to be that FC united needed 2012 to be added to work in FM09. Also as michealtmurray mentions above, it sometimes only happens after a certain number of game years. I added 2009 and it worked for first season. i have tried to add 2010, 2011 e.t.c and it still doesn't show. I am n my 3 rd sseason and have added five years worth of lines in the config file as you said above but it still doesn't work. I am totally lost on this. I got no idea how to get it to work. The home kits appear normally with 2009 added in the config file but no matter what I do I cannot get the second or third kits to appear. Its a new game I have started, from what I've read here it seems my problem is the opposite of what others are getting, as my home shirts appear fine FIXED: For anyone else seeing this it turned out I had a / at the end of the away and third kit lines for Arsenal and Tottenham. Also i've got packs for Serie A and some other leagues which already have default kits on the game, but they dont show, it's still the default kits. How do i swap them with my downloaded kits? michaeltmurrayuk Posted February 3, 2010 Share Posted February 3, 2010 There shouldn't be a problem with the Wolves or Burnley kits (unless you are using a pack from last season that wouldn't have them) unless you have edited them with the editor, if you haven't touched the editor then it will be a problem with the pack you downloaded. If you thought it was an issue that needed fixing then you should've posted your concerns in the bugs forum rather than wait until after the patch to make a sarcastic remark. IMHO opinion this is a non-issue. Once minor changes are made to your XML file it's sorted. It doesn't stop us having kits in any way. Anyone that makes kitpacks can include the fix in their releases and anyone that is creating their own kits can see how to make them show. It could have been changed but it's a database entry issue from what I understand made by researchers. There is no reason for SI to take the man hours to fix something that there is already a solution for, I'd be annoyed if they did so instead of concentrating on more pressing problems when we're this far into a product's life cycel. Let's not forget this is the same company that spent time fixing the backgrounds not showing problem when there wasn't a solution, even when they couldn't use backgrounds themselves because of legal issues.
