i5 or i7 proccessor?

Recommended Posts

If FM 13 is going to get quad-core support, I would rather have an i7 in any new machine I was buying now. If not, well ... FM will get support for multiple cores sooner or later. But budget is budget. Still, there are a few cheap(ish) laptops with quad-cores on the market.

Oh and btw; FM is allready utilizing all 4 cores on my i7 now, occasionally. Actually all 8 cores (hyperthreading). But not full on all the time.

I just bought a laptop last week from PC World. An ASUS (red in colour), i7, 6gb, Windows 7 Home Premium. £545. Did a lot of research first on the processor and it runs FM like a DREAM.

I bought the verison down from this a year or so ago from Comet (insurance claim as previous laptop dropped by Mrs!). I have always have Dell Laptops prior, but due to the restricitons of going to Comet I thought I would go for an ASUS. I wanted a good processor and i5 was as good as I could get. Runs FM2012 absoutely great. The battery life is also superb, with 4 hours of FM no problem. I only have 4gb on memory, but I don't have any problems. I would seriously recommend any FM player to try a ASUS.

Pretty sure FM supports multiple cores and has for some time now.

do you think fm13 will have the same specs as fm12 because at the moment iam playing with hp 3gb hd and 3 gb memory with a dual core celeron

I am not trying to be rude but I doubt even SI know and we probably wont know until the demo comes out. So you might just go toss a coin.

Get an i5 2500k. Over a year old but still by far the best value for money processor available.
It's a laptop, sadly...

azzvilla: Ivy Bridge is supposed to be released next week, so if you can, I'd wait for 2-3 weeks for Sandy Bridge (Ivy Bridge's predecessor) prices to come down, or even to get a newer Ivy Bridge processor.

Ah sorry, didn't read that bit!!

Definitely wait for the SB's prices to drop a little. Great advice.

an I7 processor is obviously better than an I5. However if you get an I5 K processor then you have the future option of overclocking it relatively easy. I'd never recommend to anyone to wait for new technology. When the new stuff gets cheaper then there is newer and better more expensive stuff. Thats life.

Buy the best you can afford. If you get Win7 64 bit you can buy 4gb Ram knowing you can easily add more RAM later. Not quite so simple with CPU and graphic cards

If you want it know buy it now, use it and enjoy it

Avoid your high street shops - check out pcspecialist.com or .co.uk (can't remember). You can customer build your laptop there. Just got an i5, 8gig RAM, 250gig HD for well under your budget! Just have a play around, if you have an old OS or perviously bought Office, remove it from your spec to save money!

Can you get PC's from there on finance? ie, say 6 monthly payments?

Just looked on their site and a minimum order of £389 will get you finance - although no doubt more terms and conditions but didn't use this service so not sure what they are. They also do custom build PC's. Cannot recommend them highly enough, placed my order for fully customised laptop and took about 2/3 weeks to build, test and send but delivery is free and they update you every step of the process. Can pay a little bit more and they build within 3 days I think.

Although word of warning, you do get carried away!! Original budget was £350 for a laptop to have around the house, but when you see the small price increase from i3 to i5, then decide to go from 4gb RAM to 8gb RAM, then upgrade graphics card, you soon lose yourself!!! As I said, my budget was £350 and ended up a little over that!!

Cheers for the info :)

Think I'll be sorting one out soon. My laptop broke last year and since then I've been using my girlfriends old PC (slower than a slow thing) with a 42" monitor (it didn't have one - been using the bedroom TV!)

Headaches getting worse... FM game-time getting limited....

Good advice - I bought my latest PC from PC specialist. That way you can customise everything and can get exactly what you want for the budget you have. At lot of the high street stuff may be using build components that most may consider out of date or simply configured to try to appeal to the average buying
