I really am joking.

Just because I don't particularly like it doesn't mean that I'm blind to the possibilities.

I like doing things that everyone else says don't work, (like goal-scoring keepers and double AF's).

IF's especially are hugely over-powered and I've seen others tearing it up with IWB's too.

I try not to take advantage of stuff because it ruins the game for me. It's the same reason my corners aren't aimed at the far post. (again, too over-powered).

I am honestly not in the knowledge of anything over-powered in tactics. I just like doing different things. I think I have gone through 5-6 different systems this year. 4141 Milan and Bolton, 4411 Bolton, 4231 Dresden and Famalicao, 4231 dm Famalicao,  532, 343, 5221 all three Dresden and Zaragoza. This is my latest abomination :D This is semi-replication of Hansi Flick's Bayern considering I have the players to do so just reversed the sides to have Kimmich-like player on the left. Anyway, do not wanna hijack the thread with my tactics.

Doesn't seem like much but takes care of youth facilities upkeep for a year, I imagine.

It's a lot for us when you consider that we were in League 1 last season and have never received TV money at all except for individual matches.

Youth costs are about £6M per year so it doesn't even cover that. :(

Poached. Jun 2048

I was surprised, (and a bit peeved), that Mansfield were able to poach one of our youngsters. They are a League 1 side and we've just been promoted to the Championship, but that's not what it's based on. Ours reputation is National (5,224) and Mansfield's is National (4,957). How are they poaching our players? :idiot:

As it happens he's likely to have PA of just under 100 so it's not a disaster.

Big Bid. Jun 2048

Bid 1

The reality is that we are a selling club and if they had offered me this deal and the board had not accepted it, I would have negotiated it to include add-ons. I decided not to protest the transfer and instead asked them to negotiate it to include a % of future fee and they have agreed. When we did this before they got us a 50% clause, so fingers crossed they do the same again.

They have come back in with just 20% of profit and that's not good enough. I don't know if the protest will work, but I'm going to protest it, hope it works and then offer him out with loads of add-ons.

600bd23457c02a8170cca5adcb81d56f.png

It worked, but now I need to loan him out and get a better deal.

50042e7b828ea636932b916dcc657121.png

Before I even get a chance to offer him out, Swansea are in for him.

1245f3df797326d5fb98826a7e374a05.png

I don't have the option to negotiate, (I think because they have included 20% of profit), so I am protesting instead. I know he's going. I just want more than this for him.

It's worked, but that's 3 and I don't think I will get a 4th until some time has passed.

Bid 2. This one is more painful because I think he's brilliant. He's one of our most important players, but Bid 1 hasn't gone through yet and I can't take the risk of the board not agreeing to my protest and us not getting a 50% clause in the deal. It's safer to accept that he's going but make sure that we have a 50% clause so that's what I've done. There is no point pretending that we're not a selling club. We are and this is good money, (no matter how much it hurts).

Barnsley have come back in and are just trying to give us 20% profit too. I'm going to try and protest this one too. I'm surprised it will let me to be honest.

Christ, I've got more lives than a cat. Now I need to offer him out too.

95f2d19e92c133ef2937645efc23267d.png

£10.5M is a lot of money for a club like ours. It's especially a lot of money when our biggest previous transfer fee was £6.25M. I'm gutted that he's going, but at the same time I can't really complain.

Bid 3. I received a bid of £9.5M cash for (44c) Hamilton (F.Pro) * which I was able to reject. I would have accepted a smaller cash sum if I could have added some clauses and a 50% to it, but I've tried and tried and tried and I just can't get them to pay what I want. I'm going to keep him and see how many goals he scores this season and hopefully that will generate more interest and make them willing to pay through the nose.

When I had almost given up we got this bid for him.

The way to financial security can't be by cashing in our clauses to keep our head above water. If we have to sell new players to keep the clauses intact then so be it. I just need to be proactive about which players get sold and make sure that they are players in positions where we have other options coming through.

We may have sold (43j) Richard Jenkins * for £10M+, but there is no 50% in the deal. (44c) Hamilton (F.Pro) * might have gone from £7M rising to £10M but importantly there is a 50% clause on this one.

Wow, so much has happened.

Great to see you're in the Championship. I'm hoping that things are going well for you. How does prize money work at this level?

It would be good to see the Board start giving you more backing with the team as well as the facilities, in that they let you decide transfers and not step in when a little bit of cash is given for multiple players.

Been loving the analysis of various parts of the game, players, players learning moves, backroom staff, tactics.

Speaking of players, that fullback you got in the last youth intake sounds like he could turn into a Lahm type player!

Looks like the fines are much more expensive at this level

  • I don't know what the prize money situation is. It doesn't mention it on the League rules page. It's certainly a league haves and have not's though.

  • I can't complain at all about the behaviour of the board. They have just allowed me to protest/negotiate 4 consecutive bids for different players, (before telling me that I couldn't do so on the 5th), and I think that's more than reasonable. I think I need to really think about protests in future because the knock-on effect is that we might be unable to protest a more significant deal further down the line. We now have a Transfer budget of £46.8M while we only have £27.3M in the bank, so to be honest I don't think I can reasonably expect them to do more. These were transfers of near £10M while we were in League 1. That's a LOT of money at that level. It's even more significant in real terms when you consider that the Youth Academy costs are so significant this season at approx £6M. It really isn't "a little bit of cash" at all.

1752711e65b867134357a7043668cb96.png

  • (48a) Doyle (F.Pro) is indeed looking decent, but I think it's wrong to become fixated or even just focussed on players like him. The chances are he will move on before too long, (because we need him to as a selling club), and players are more likely to be significant to us in playing terms at least, if they are maybe not the quite top end players who are going to attract the interest of bigger clubs. I'll be completely honest with you. I am already looking for a back-up for (48a) Doyle (F.Pro) because I know that sooner or later he will be gone and I can't rely on his replacement coming through the intake between now and then. The truth is that I will probably have to resort to a left winger if/when he goes.
  • £5K for a 1st fine is a lot, but it doesn't seem to increase with each subsequent fine, (which should save us some cash).

Big Bid (turned down). Sep 2048

Considering we are a small Championship club who are hot favourites to go straight back down turning down these bids for a 19 year old is pretty decent, so again credit to the board. We've got £27.6M in the bank which obviously helps, but we need to try and keep it going.

Aug 2048

I am going to use this season as an opportunity to blood more young players than has been the case for the last couple of seasons when we were trying to be promoted. All we are aiming for this season is keeping away from the relegation and with that in mind I will be resting players ahead of winnable home games, (in the hope of securing 3 points), allowing us to field below-par teams in the harder games where we are less likely to collect points. I often use rotation anyway because I think player condition is key, and this will be just taking it that little bit further, (while also allowing us to invest in the younger players). This also might mean that we can concentrate on Cup games, but I'm sorry we're not going to do that either. Cup games instead will also be an opportunity to rest our best players so they are in absolute peak condition when we need them, and also...... yeah, you guessed it, give more game-time to our youngsters.

Championship. This was a pretty hectic start to the season with 6 league games and 2 Cup games in the opening month. I prioritised the home games against Watford and Charlton, (and we collected 3 points in each), but then the same "strong" side played Burnley 4 days after the Charlton game and although their quality was good, they were obviously knackered. I should have gone weak against Burnley and string against Brentford because our 1st game next month isn't until 12th September. Ah well. Every day's a school day.

We've got a 5 point gap between ourselves and the relegation zone and that is great considering we are investing much playing time in Youth.

Carabao Cup. We fielded much weaker teams in these games, (as you cane tell by the scorers), but we didn't disgrace ourselves at all against Premier League Fulham

Ex Academy players at 30(ish). Sep 2048

There are a few players now turned 30 that are worth updating you on.

The real star of this period was (34a) Nieminen (FIN) (Driven)* who, despite playing Senior football immediately after coming through the intake, is still going strong at 31 and his physical attributes are showing little/no sign of decline. I would love to sign him at some point, but the experiment with  (31a) Liam Watts (FIN) * was a complete disaster and he made 5 or 6 appearances from the bench and was very poor on each occasion. I won't be making that mistake again. If a player is going to join us then it has to be a decision made by the head rather than the heart.

(34b) Sam Siddons (Pro) * is currently our 1st choice right back, (which isn't good), and I'm really just showing you him so you appreciate how limited we are in certain positions. He was ok to be a back-up last season in League 1, but for him to be a regular starter this season in the Championship is not good.

(34c) Guy Bacon (Driven) * has been absolutely fantastic for us. Firstly he scored 20+ goals in 3 consecutive seasons for us and then generated some much needed cash when he moved on to FGR. Then I think we got 50% of the £350k they received when he was sold to Bristol Rovers, before we brought him back and he scored another 77 goals in 4 seasons before we flogged him for £1M+. Brilliant for the club. Absolutely brilliant. :applause:

While lots of people benefited us by moving on and generating cash, both  (35c) Craig Barnett (Unamb) and  (35e) Neil Dunkley (L.Heart) * helped us by staying and he;ping us from Conference North to the Championship with 4 promotions each. Both very significant players in our history. As a result of this, you might notice that they are a fair bit off their potential at 30 and this will because they were slow to develop with us because of our rubbish training facilities in their formative years. They have done well to get to where they are, but they had the potential to be up near the  (31a) Liam Watts (FIN) * level of ability and they were nowhere near his level. Sorry lads. :(

This is the only big clause available right now. £4.21M for the 50% clause for 20yo (45b) Kendall (F.Amb) * who is valued at £2.8M at yoyo club Southampton. We've got £28.6M in the bank and I think we will hold on to it for a while yet. If the offer increases to £5M+ then I might have to reconsider.

Championship. It was a tough month for us. We targeted the Swansea and Barnsley games, but having our right back sent off 9 minutes into the Swansea game meant getting anything out of it was a tough ask. The boys came good against Barnsley and 3 points is enough to keep us 6 points ahead of the relegation zone.

Championship. Our weakened side came up with their 1st win of the season against Nottm Forest, but then the 1st choice team couldn't back that up with a result against Blackburn. They did however redeem themselves with a narrow win against West Ham. We're 6 points ahead of the relegation zone now.

Mentoring. Nov 2048

I can't remember what caused me to look at this page again but I did and there has been progress.

(45d) Ndlovu (ZIM) (F.Pro) * is our best performing central midfielder and an important player so it'e very good news that he has popped from F.Pro to Pro. I considered removing him from the group but actually by leaving him there will give the other players in the group a tiny boost going forward.

6566400317fb806f77e28ffb3cb0e462.png

I've remembered why I clicked on this and it was because I was advised to offer (39a) Harri (M.Pro) * a new contract. I looked at him and saw that he was now worth £7.75M, (he was worth about £2.1M at the start of the season). Immediately considered selling him but then remembered that he was our only M.Pro and thought about the mentoring.

7977ea7ae13d389631da57c933c503f1.png

As well as his personality, he's also still pretty prolific, scoring 9 goals in 14(1) league games this season. We've played 18 games so he has been rested on 4 occasions, and that's quite a decent balance I think.

Should this player be scoring at this rate in the Championship? Who cares.  He's our Jamie Vardy. (Just not as quick or as good, but a fair bit bigger).

His valuation has made me look at the valuation of all our squad and I'm pleasantly surprised by what I see.

1d1ca4d4741874d58279fd4b5e19ee29.png

(44b) Big Don (JAM)(Bal)6'5" * was subject of a bid of about £10M in the close-season, (that I managed to protest successfully). He's now almost worth that which should hopefully mean that we can now sell him for a much larger fee. He has 3 years left on his contract so there is no rush but I also don't think I'm getting the best out of him in terms of performances. If he was going to be staying then i would have to look at that but as he's likely to be going it's probably not an issue. That being said, he's already scored the same number of goals as he scored in the whole of last season, and his average rating suggests that he is doing ok. Better than ok in fact.

eca9d66e469aae0bb3ea8fa7ced64f82.png

fd6f4098a41ba7c7c4668f58cf651c42.png

(39a) Harri (M.Pro) * we have already seen. I think I will be keeping him simply because of his M.Pro personality. (It's just a bonus that he scores goals for fun).

(45d) Ndlovu (ZIM) (F.Pro) * is rapidly developing into a very big player for us. He's already got 4 goals and 6 assists in 11(2) appearances this season and is probably the 1st name on the team-sheet.

e22bbb60bbfbd8c4ba9c2e78644a60c2.png

(44a) Greg Gray (SCO) (Real) * has recently popped from Realist to Resolute, (which is excellent), and he is becoming an important player despite us having a little depth on the right flank. I should really be looking to sell him, but he has just signed a new 4 year contract and has both a +3 clause and a +1 after promotion clause. I think he might be around for a while barring financial woes.

6b70888454d2a4da1a1d71edf3158fe3.png

(43a) Cresswell (F.Det) * is an important centre-half for us. He's contracted for 4 seasons and we have +3 and +1 options so maybe he will be around for a while.

1c00208a5a015d3b7710bad9bcdea6c2.png

c2dcc7326411be9b71563dc620106a54.png

(46a) Gérard (FRA) (F.Pro) * is one of my favourite players and I have high hopes for him. He has 4 years left on his contract but no extensions so he will definitely be going.

Championship. I weakened the line-up against Southampton, but the 1st Team came up with 2 wins and a draw to move us 12 points clear of the relegation zone. I even had the luxury of sending (46a) Gérard (FRA) (F.Pro) * on holiday for a week because he was knackered. He missed the Millwall game and will also miss the 1st game of next month.

Youth Intake preview. Dec 2048

In terms of young players who have not yet cemented their place in the senior squad.

We have a decent young GK.
We have a decent young left back and right back.
We have a decent centre-half.
We have 3 decent central midfielders.
We have no left midfielder.
We have a decent young right midfielder.
We have 5 decent young strikers.

* Please note that "decent" covers anyone that has the potential to have a proper impact on on the Senior side

So what we want is an ML, a GK and a MC in that order.

What have we actually got? A centre-half, a winger and 2 strikers as part of a Golden Generation. If we get good players in these positions I will be a happy happy man.

Championship. Really pleased with our from. The win against West Ham and the draw against Huddersfield were completely bonus results as we fielded weakened, (but fit), sides. We're now 16 points clear of relegation.

Big Bid. Jan 2049

Atlanta (USA not Italy), came in and offered us £15M cash + £5M in installments, but wouldn't discuss a loan back. As the deal won't go through until 10th Feb, the loan was less of an issue because I expect us to be safe by then.

92791363eaf74e3b05f5e7caaebd9329.png

I obviously added a 50% clause and a friendly and also stuck in £2.5M after 1 International appearance.

This is a HUGE deal for us and will hopefully allows us to not be forced into selling players for a couple of seasons now. This will enable us to really develop players at the club and when we do sell them we should get much more for them.

It will also hopefully allow us to keep these 50% clauses until they are triggered.

What a fee for an MLS club! Just about double the existing record for an incoming transfer.

Remember, it is 2049. With inflation £25M is probably worth about £2.50.

I was actually joking when I wrote that, but as I did I thought about it and......

If we assume that inflation runs at approx 1.5% then 1.5% of £25M = £375,000 and then we multiply that by how many years have passed, (29), then we get £375,000 x 29 = £10.87M

Championship. Really pleased with our from. The win against West Ham and the draw against Huddersfield were completely bonus results as we fielded weakened, (but fit), sides. We're now 16 points clear of relegation.

So actually, inflation might be largely responsible.

It's actually around £13.5m, as the inflation would be compounded. The first year would be 1.5% of £25m which is 375,000 but then the next year is 1.5% of £25.375m and so on

I think it's unlikely, but I'v e actually just looked at the gap between ourselves and the playoffs for the 1st time this season and it's 7 points right now. That's quite doable actually because the way I'm rotating the squad means that our youngsters are really coming on leaps and bounds and maybe just maybe they will improve enough in the 2nd half of the season to over-haul this.

The loss of our DLP (46a) Gérard (FRA) (F.Pro) * is probably but the kibbosh on things though.

Very happy how this season is going all in all.

The money we have brought in has been huge and I really just want to try and fast-forward a couple of seasons to see where we are then with this group of players.

When you then get to add in that we will have had 2 more intakes by then and our facilities have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years I'm quietly optimistic about us producing some REALLY good players.

Big Transfers. Jan 2049

The discussion about the big transfer to the USA and inflation has got me wondering about the size of transfers in the game and I will completely honest with you and admit that I really haven't been looking outside our own club at all in this save. I'm not buying players so there is no reason to look, other than the fact that I looked at....... can't even remember who it was now, a couple of seasons ago and reported back that they were really well run and had a really progressive transfer strategy.

I'm going to post the top 10 transfers in the game each year so far of the save, but I'm going to hide it, so if this info isn't for you and you don't want to know who goes for what money then you can easily avoid it.

Shaqiri for £64M doesn't count because he went to China.

This makes me want to go and look to see how much West Ham paid for Jude Bellingham and when. They bought him direct from Birmingham for £37.5M in 2022 in the game. Of course the Dortmund deal wasn't in the database.

I think transfers is not something you could really predict and increase each year.

There has to be a cap at some point where players will not go for more than a certain amount.

There is some sort of Mod that makes future transfers more realistic. I haven't used it before but I've seen @Makoto Nakamuratalk about it before. It does make me wonder how people know what future transfers will be like in order to "fix" the game.

Jan 2049.

Championship. A decent month, but we're now 10 points behind the Playoffs. Without a big up-turn in form it's unlikely we will be able to challenge. On the plus side, we're 20 points clear of relegation. We're probably safe already, but 1 more win should make it safe. I don't think we will be anywhere near the bottom come the end of the season, even with (46a) Gérard (FRA) (F.Pro) *'s imminent departure.

Furious Fans. Feb 2049

I'm really happy with our transfer business this season. This deal was an absolute no-brainer.

We're set financially for a few seasons now and this will allow us to hang onto our clauses and also develop players for a few more years before selling them. This is a HUGE stepping stone for us. They are deluded if they think there is any other way.

I don't honestly see the point in the fan reaction thing. Although I've not looked into it but does a player sale like the above (or player signing) have a factor in crowd sizes in the weeks post transfer? Maybe that's something that could be looked at. They already have "fan days" implemented in the game which see crowds normally increased.

Anyway, that's a decent deal with him going to the MLS as I feel it would take more money to bring him back to Europe if he does well and develops further.

Exactly. I think he will come back and it will be for a big fee and we will get 50% of it. He's still a teenager.

The fan thing..... I'm not sure it does anything more than give you a more immersive feel. I actually quite like it. I also understand why they are not happy, (he was still a teenager and had a few years left on his contract), but for me this was more about picking a player to sell who would generate a LOT of cash and making sure I could get 50% on the deal too. If he moves again within a couple/three years then I will be proved right. If he stays there for 5+ years then I will be proved wrong.

What they don't seem to factor in is that we have lots of depth at the club and this gives us the freedom to keep everyone else for quite a while now if we want. (In actual fact I will keep selling to boost our balance so that I am always in control of out-going deals).

Championship. A phenomenal month, largely thanks to the exploits of our reserves who 1st smash Charlton, then somehow drew at home to top of the table West Brom and then went and stuck 6 past 2nd placed Southampton:eek: :applause:The 1st choice team however beat Brentford, lost a tight game against Tranmere and and then sneaked passed Crewe. The gap to the Playoffs is now just 5 points with 10 games remaining.

Youth Intake Day. Mar 2049

It's another Golden Generation, but we all know that doesn't mean anything.

My definition of a "good intake" is a player with at least 1x 5.0 PA player. We have 2x 5.0 players so that means this is definitely a good intake.

New Nations represented by this intake. 8820e30577636c4356facdad9d447b33.png

There are a few points of discussion relating to this intake.

  • We good a new Nationality and at this stage that's always a positive.
  • Personalities are pretty good overall. Although we only have 1x Resolute and 1x Driven, we have no less than 5x Fairly Professional.
  • We know we have 2x 5.0 PA players and we also have 1x 4.5 and 2x 4.0 players.
  • The top end of the CA list is interesting too. 2x 2.0 CA players and 4x 1.5 CA players seems to be better than I remember from recent intakes.

(49a) Parsons (Unamb). He's another pacey striker which is what seems to suit us best. 16 acceleration at 16 years old suggests that he's going to be explosive, and his dribbling and PPM complement his pace.

0d37546c81bbde2565ee940037ae3ec3.png

(49b) Big Niño (COL) (Unamb). This is just what I was looking for. Something a little different. In my Welsh Ton Pentre save there was a regular vein of "Big" strikers running all the way through the save and it made us devastating from set-pieces. I hope to revive this aspect.

650accb5e7dea08e98822d9e8760ab0e.png

(49c) Smith (F.Pro) 6'4". I really like the look of him. I particularly love his aggression and bravery stats and hope to see him flying into challenges before too long.

0e66a3125015f6487700a77d431b7c77.png

(49d) Robles (PHI) (F.Pro). Another pacy striker. I think this means that we have 10+ strikers at the club who I think are capable of featuring for the 1st team. The idea is to develop some and sell others. I will do a post on our plethora of strikers at a later date. My plan is for the sale of our strikers to find the club for the next decade.

637d851542816272616336fdc5af9c96.png

(49e) Hayes (Res). He's a "righty" who plays on the left. You all know that means that I will be re-training him to play on the right.

That actually looks like  a great intake.

Don't take golden generation for granted, in my game i have had the terms 'this is a mediocre group or this is a poor group' every year for nearly 10 seasons. and this with facilities the same as yours (but in Hungary!). Worse they are right, they are poor.

Still thoroughly enjoying this thread! Please can you post a screenshot of Scott Orr?

Scott Orr was the 1st big Newgen transfer I think. He went from Liverpool to Man City for £230M in 2030.

Unfortunately we're in 2049 now so he has retired and I can't show you a picture of him.
