They seem to be using a really low base clock speed with a high turbo speed.  I'm guessing this is designed to make them more energy efficient?

And here's the single core ratings

In fairness - depending on the i7-10 model number - they are smashing it with this range!

Hi everyone, Black Friday is coming and i'm trying to replace a wheezing laptop for FM20, beyond that just the usual browsing etc, budget would be £500 but if theres an unmissable deal then i might be able to stretch it. Only play a couple of leagues, large database, not overfussed about the graphics but these 10 hour seasons are killing me!

My first find is below, am i in the right ballpark? Thanks In advance for any help

I think you'lll struggle to find better than that for the price to be honest.  Should do what you want it to do very well.

I'm interested in buying a laptop to play Football Manager.

My questions for those who play or have played this game on a laptop are the following: does the machine get too hot while playing? And what can you tell me about the noise?

Thanks.

Hi,

Not quite sure why I'm asking as I know the specs will be fine, just don't want to shell out for a new MacBook and it not do the job. The below will be fine right?

2019 MacBook Pro 13" Intel Core i5 2.4 GHz, 8 GB & 256GB SSD - I'm potentially upgrading from a mid-2012 but it has 16gb Ram and 500gb SSD, so want to check 8gb and 256gb will be fine. I usually try and run 90k players and around 10/12 playable leagues.

Thanks

Hi guys, looking to get back FM2020 after 6 years out. I could play FM2014 on my Macbook Air and I prefer the 2D view.

Been doing some research and to play this game I'm upgrading my OS from Yosemite to Sierra to even get steam to run

Outside of that, I did boost up the RAM to 8GB 5 years ago so I hope that might help

Macbook Air (Mid 2013)
OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
Proc: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4650U CPU @ 1.70GHz (Ranked 318 in the CPU list on main page lol)
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

My hope is to mainly simulate the top 4 Euro Leagues and run on 2D. 1-4 minute load times depending on how many games in a match week

If the specs cant play the full game, would this be good enough for FM20 Touch? Or might I have to go back to FM19 to have a shot of running this smoothly

Thanks

Hi all,

I’ve been holding off til Black Friday to get my new laptop ready for FM20. Noticed curry’s have a few deals now if you think any of these are worth an early purchase or whether it’s best to wait until Black Friday?

I want to run FM20 well and quick, but don’t tend to load many leagues.

the first link looks a good deal, however 1.3GHz processor... is that not so great and not sure if it’s suitable for gaming?

Im after a bit of advice from wiser people than me. I currently have an MSI GE62 Apache Pro laptop. Intel i7, 16gb ram geforce gtx 970m graphics card. Its a very good laptop. But FM20 is just not working on it. Constant crash dumps that i have reported. I have followed all advice on fixing the issues but nothing is working. I know we are still on the beta but im starting to get a bit worried for full release.

Im looking at this as a replacement, just incase i have to get a new laptop. I believe this is a downgrade, but is it a decent downgrade. If thats even possible

You really should wait until the game is released and test it again on your laptop. It does not make much sense to buy a less good machine just because FM20 Beta does not run on your current laptop.

I think the Acer Nitro 5 is good value. It’s very heavy which puts me off slightly.

i do like a lot of the spec of this one, just not sure whether it will run FM20 well?

I used the above links to compare. They are posted on the first page. It says the higher ranked are better. The Acer Nitro has higher ranked Processor and Graphics cards. If im reading the details correctly, and that you can change the ram from 8 to 32 is brilliant. Like i said, im no expert. But that acer nitro looks decent to me. Hopefully someone a bit more clued up can give you info. I might even get that acer myself

If it wasn’t Black Friday round the corner, I think I would be going for that new to right now . Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expecting a gaming laptop to go in for less than £499, but there is a chance of a slightly better spec that could go in for a similar price. Only caveat, it mean I have to wait 2 more weeks to play FM20

I would say the best bet for the Currys site is to use the Achieve category for laptops at the least and you will have a good idea of what will run well. Someone will be able to give better advice on individual systems than I can but I can't see 4Gb of RAM and then a celeron or old i3 being of much use.

It has an operating system I am unfamiliar with. A quick google doesn't tell me if it supports FM (I wouldn't have thought so but someone may be able to tell me otherwise) so you would then be looking at another outlay and a good chunk of memory taken to install Windows on there to get it to run.

Actually it doesn't have some OS at all. It is naked. I will install one copy of Windows 10 cause I have some license still unused, so it isn't problem. I'm only interested if hardware enough good is to play FM

Apoloiges, I understood that FreeDOS 2.0 the OS? The Ryzen 5 says quad core and there is 8Gb of RAM which should be enough to run it pretty well. I have based this on several of the other laptops being recommended having similar spec. Someone more qualified than me can confirm but thats my take, OS concerns aside.

The bottom one would probably be OK. Not fantastic, but it's an 8th gen Intel core, so it won't be terrible.

Disregard the top one completely.  Celeron processors are awful and would run FM painfully slow.

Hey guys

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I am going to get FM20 later this week or next and was wondering if my Laptop would run it.

I was wondering about the spec of the game, I currently run nothing but FM15 on my laptop which plays well on it and was wondering if FM 20's spec was similar to that of FM15, I do intend on getting a new computer in the near future, especially as I am starting a degree in the New Year and plan on getting a PC to do my degree coursework and also to play FM.

I'm hoping my laptop will be good enough to run FM 20 in the meantime...

Thanks in Advance

Fozz

Are you referring to the processor of the HP laptop link As below that @Smurf said was decent?

or if anyone can advice if this laptop would run FM well? Looking at no more than 5/6 leagues, mainly just looking to run FM fairly quick and not just at a snails pace?

More than good enough for that my only thing I didn’t like was the size of it at 14inch but it’s very good 6 leagues 4 and a half stars at medium database size

Hi,

looking for a desktop PC, have a budget of around £1000. Need monitor, keyboard etc. Anyone recommend one for me?

TIA

Are you building one (or do you have a computer store near you that can build it for you) or do you wanna buy a pre-built machine?
Are you going to play other games too, or FM only?

This forum has been so useful for me - thanks so much to everyone contributing.

I'm thinking of getting the HP Pavilion - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-14-ce3501sa-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10198859-pdt.html - although I notice that I can get it with i7 for £150 more - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-14-ce3520sa-14-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10198863-pdt.html. Is there much value in spending the extra? I normally run about five / six countries with a medium database (although I cut down on playable leagues) & I feel as if my budget is about £600. I could push to £650 if the i7 was truly worth it, although I don't find myself playing much other than FM, but wouldn't mind spending the extra if it 'future proofed' my laptop a bit - I might broaden my horizons as well if I could had a better laptop compared to what I have now. I'm painfully ignorant with all this - been running on an Acer Aspire e5-571 I've had for five years so I'm looking forward to not spending a month to finish a season!

If there's anything else better around my price point then I'm happy to be pointed in the right direction, although I can only use Currys due to work discount & vouchers.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi mate,

I’ve also been looking at both these laptops. They are both decent laptops, especially for the price, however they are both lacking a decent graphics card to run FM well in my view. The i7 has a better graphics card, but still lacking compared to gaming laptops.

for pure value within £600 these are decent gaming laptops with a decent graphics card

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-15-bc550na-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-512-gb-ssd-10193844-pdt.html

However, I am in the same boat as u, I will only play FM and I’m just not a big fan of these ugly bulky gaming laptops. So I also would be interest in others thoughts whether the two laptops you posted would run FM at a decent speed or is it just a case of going for more a gaming laptop?

Their prices look really inflated.
I'm not from the UK so the only store I know is Alza. This PC looks good: https://www.alza.co.uk/alza-gamebox-ryzen-5700-d5699275.htm   819  punds
Honestly it is even overkill for both FM and GTA V, you will be able to play even the newest games on high quality on this.
I recommend this monitor: https://www.alza.co.uk/24-lg-24mk600m-d5472613.htm?o=1  125 punds
From the rest of the money you can buy speakers, keyboard and mouse. For mouse and keyboard you should go to an electronics store and touch a few to see what is comfortable for you.

Got it today graphics you have to change to the actual card as its for some reason on default to the intel one, but it still only showed 1 star but high graphics works an dream for me so far, tell me the leagues you have and I’ll take an screenshot so you know the processing speeds
