4-3-3 SchemeServe for FM15

UPDATED FOR VERSION 15.2.1

Tweet Me: @SarcyToTheNth

Introduction

As always, the challenge for the tactic is to...

1. To win by clear margins

2. To maintain 60-65% possession

3. To deliver 85%+ pass accuracy with 80% minimum across DEF, MID and ATT

4. To aspire to 600-700 passes per game dependent upon opposition

5. To create a minimum 3 CCC's and 3 HC's per game.

The Formation

B9D0C4FAA1FB270688988D1771889CA63B53054F

The Positions

Sweeper Keeper (Defend)

Should be quick of his line with good athleticism and ball distribution. Whlst I've made it work with Wojcech, I suspect the tactic would benefit with a keeper who is quicker off his line and Szceszny's poor distribution definitely holds the tactic back in terms of ball recycling.

Central Defender (Defend)

Good mental skills required and the tactic improves if you use defenders with passing of 13 or above. I also teach them PPM's to stay on their feet, mark tightly and play a short simple passing game and their role is simply to stay in position, break down attacks and recycle possession to the more capable ball players. Aim for 50+ passes per game at 85%+ accuracy and a minimum 5 tackles at around 88% success. If they're not delivering those kind of returns, see if another player in your squad can.

Wing Back (Support)

Workhorses, so high stats in work rate, stamina and determination help massively and again, decent passing is a must. Given the crossing being so important in both the beta and full version, that stat is also important and they can pick up a lot of assists that way providing the natural width to the formation with the IF's cutting inside. With their high pressing, my full backs were registering, on average, 2.5 tackles per game with 15% or more cross completion. Make sure to set your wingbacks to take your throw ins on either side. You will also notice them delivering arguably the highest pass success ratios per game and they'll act as the 'get out of jail' ball for midfielders looking to retain possession.

Central Midfielder (Defend)

Play starts with him, dropping deep to collect the ball and protecting the back line from onrushing midfielders with his strong physical presence and defensive positioning. Whilst he should be a strong passer of the ball, his main skills should be around anticipation, positioning, decisions and tackling so that he knows where he should be and when and can intercept the ball. He should average 65 passes per game at 90%+ completion whilst registering a stellar 6-8 tackles per game to win back the ball high up the pitch.

Roaming Playmaker(Support)

Mr. Available from possession perspective. The player will work on moving the ball around at speed, keeping possession and aiming to create chances for his teammates picking the ball up and moving it through the opposition into space. He'll need good stamina and work rate, a decent turn of pace and the technical and creative skills to find his teammates in attacking positions. 70+ passes at 88-90% accuracy will certainly help retain possession, 4-5 tackles per game keep the opponents midfield worried but he won't be your primary source of chances. Work rate, stamina, determination and teamwork are as vital as his passing, but this goes for all three central midfielders. The high press they'll be asked to play will be exhausting.

Advanced Playmaker (Attack)

He will be an absolute destroyer from a creative perspective creating a huge number of key passes per game. His advanced position, determination and work rate however should see him deliver lots of tackles high up the pitch, think 3-5 per game on average, whilst his creativity should not come at the expense of accuracy registering around 90% pass completion at 70+ passes per game.

Inside Forward (Support)

You should play them on the opposite wing to their preferred foot and they will be the absolute stars of your team acting as the main goalscoring threat. With the False 9 dropping back into space and bringing defenders with him they will run in behind to deliver the killer cross or finish and it's not unreasonable to expect a 25 goal and 20 assist season from both. Their pass accuracy will probably sit around the 85% mark with a reduced number of passes at the 30 per game mark, but key is their shots on target ratio which should sit above the 50% mark, or else they need some serious training on decisions, composure and finishing. Equally, have them learn to beat the offside trap and place their shots to make them all the more potent. Expect 8-10 dribbles per game on average too, so they should be proficient in that area. Equally, if they can't deliver around 20% crossing completion, they're need to work on it in training.

False 9 (Support)

He's absolutely vital to the formation and his mental and technical skills should be incredibly balanced with particular focus on movement, decisions, anticipation and the like. I've found when he's pacey he gets more goals, but when he's strong he'll provide better holding up of the ball to link the play - either way, he's guaranteed to score goals, especially if he's half decent (15+) in the air - but don't let that come at the expense of mobility. He'll probably be your fourth best player behind the inside forwards and advanced playmaker.

Training

PRE SEASON

General Training = Team Cohesion (Average)

Match Training = 100%

Match Preparation = Match Tactics

DURING SEASON

General Training = Balanced (Hard)

Match Training = 20%

Match Preparation = Def. Positioning

Player's individual training should be set to maximise their attributes to the position they're playing and to improve on any weaknesses they may have, but largely this is a formation that requires high stamina, workrate, teamwork and obviously passing. I never sign any players with <10 for any of those or the determination stat.

Who would you say is your most important player in this tactic and also do you think it work for lesser sides? (such as a championship team / newly promoted premier league team)

For the style of play it'd be the three midfielders, but for pure goalscoring it'd likely be the inside forwards.

I suspect it wouldn't work for smaller teams due to their lack of physical and technical skills. It's very high pressing so your players are exhausted easily.

Any OI? What about training and match preparation?

I leave OI to my assistant manager.

Average intensity balanced training with match preparation focussed primarily on teamwork.

It's worked well with the clubs I've trialled it with - whilst the goals aren't as frequent the possession and pass accuracy is still very high.

Im getting "this file could not be imported" when i try and load the tactic.

1. Have you saved it with the correct .tac file extension?

2. Are you using it in the FM15 beta?

If the answer to both questions is 'Yes', I'm afraid I don't know why it's not working for you.

Tried to flesh out the above with some more information, recommended signings and the like. Any questions and feedback, please let me know. I'd love to know how this is working for you as there've been a lot of downloads, but no real feedback on if it's working for people.

I have played and won all 13 games that I have played with this tactic, including home and away to Barcelona. I am playing as Liverpool and was only 50% familiar when I started using the tactic.

I have a good team, but not godly.

Third season (finished 3rd last season):

GK: Lloris (Mignolet)

DMR: Flanagan (Clyne)

DML: Moreno (Can)

DC: Höwedes (Wisdom)

DC: Otamendi (Sakho)

MC: Coutinho (Henderson)

MC: Kramer (Can/Gerrard)

MC: Isco (Deli Alli)

AMR: Sterling (Munir)

AML: Depay (Markovic/Isco)

SC: Sturridge (Berahino/Munir)

AMAZING! Glad to hear it's been so successful for you!

Am I right in assuming Sturridge has scored the most, Sterling and Depay have stuck in about 75% as many goals and Coutinho has also contributed with a few goals?

Imageshack now costs money, so I will not post a screenie but here goes:

Now 15 games won (0 drawn, 0 lost) with goal difference 53-14 (3.5 goals for on average).

Goals:

Sturridge 11 (2, 2, 1, 3, 3)

Sterling 7 (3, 1, 1, 1, 1)

Depay 8 (2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1)

Can 5 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1)

Kramer 3 (1, 1, 1)

Gerrard 3 (2, 1)

Höwedes 3 (1, 1, 1)

Munir 3 (1, 2)

Berahino 3 (1, 2)

Henderson 1

Coutinho 1

Isco 1

Markovic 1

Own goals 3 (1, 1, 1 (Alba, Tomkins, Dragovic))

(The numbers in parenthesis represent how many times they scored in a single game, it was easier for me to calculate that way)

Since I rotate a lot, these numbers may not mean so much but for position the goals were scored like this:

SC: 2, 2, 1, 3, 3, 2 (13 of 53 goals) --> 25%

AMR: 3, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1 (7 of 53) -->13%

AML: 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, (9 of 53) --> 17%

MCL: 1, 2, 1, 1 (5 of 53) -->9%

MC: 1, 1, 1, 1 (4 of 52) --> 8%

MCR: 1, 1 (2 of 53) --> 4%

DC: 1, 1, 1 (3 of 53 NB Höwedes scored all three) --> 6%

DML: 1, 1, 1 (3 of 53 NB right-footed Emre Can scored these three although Moreno is first choice) --> 6%

Own goal: 1, 1, 1 (3 of 53) --> 6%

15 games is not enough for this kind of statistics, I know, but i kinda enjoyed it..

Spot on! So it's performing exactly for you as it does for me which suggests it's consistent and not too reliant on specific stats. I can't wait until next season when I can buy players specifically for the tactic... I am desperate to get Cavani in that F9 role where his high work rate and team work should bag him 40+ goals!

p.s Photobucket is still free ;)

Good to hear! I'd imagine Gotze and Muller would be amazing in those roles.

Lost the first 2 since the update :confused:

I'm reluctant to update on that basis! Am cleaning up in season 2 with Schurrle out on the left.

Hate when that happens. I like finding a tactic, and then building a team out of it. I hate jumping around to multiple tactics, and then having my developed and star players out of position.

Hopefully the update didn't ruin this tactic. I was really looking forward to giving this a shot and possibly it being my long term tactic.

I've just won 4 on the trot and now top - it just seems a bit weaker

Sounds like they just nerfed the ME en masse from what I've read so would figure it'll have lost it's clinicality. Are you still getting high possession and pass accuracy?

Sounds like I need to tighten up the defence a little, likely by dropping the DMC further back or pulling back the wing backs. Could also need a tweak to defensive line.

Are you still scoring shed loads?

I had a game on the old patch earlier today with 43 shots and 82% possession!

Don't get me wrong, still a very good tactic. It isn't broken, but I am sure it has room for improvement and could use a few tweaks to adjust with the new update. Looking forward to it.

Looks like I need to go away and work on the defence.

Looks like it's just become a little less effective. I just need to update myself and take a look at it in action to spot the gaps.

indeed, patch hits, back to square one!! It's so frustrating and annoying, these were the only tactics I have found success with!!

Now we we are right back to getting drubbed every single game (I'm Liverpool)

I tried dropping the defensive line deeper but it made no difference at all!!

I wish you didn't have to change your whole setup every time a patch drops!!

Unreal effect from the patch. I ended my first season 3-0 away at city in the league 3-2 defeat Vs Chavski in FA final and beat gooners 2-1 in CL final...just been beat 7-0 in charity shield by chavski...dear lord! did not see this coming, pre season has been relatively progressive too :(

Is anyone else finding they are conceding a lot of late goals??

I have lost the last 7 games having been winning until the last 5 mins then the opposition seem to score 2-3 goals every time.

Me screaming at my team to concentrate seems to have no impact whatsoever

For examplw, 3-0 up against city in the cup at 83 mins. I lost 4-3 I'm sure I'm doinf something wrong, but what? This did not happen before the patch

All sorts of problems caused by the new patch I'm afraid. I don't see how a patch can take a tactic from dominance to not working...suggests the ME isn't as clever or based on theory as we're led to believe.

Personal experience since updating saw me continue to win, but the goals I was conceding were difficult to counteract. Equally, my players just ignored the instructions given with Szeszsny launching long kicks despite being told to distribute short, Debuchy insisting on keep trying to switch the flank despite no PPM and short passing ticked (with options around him) and Cazorla being unable to find a teammate with a short pass from 5 yards away continuously. Very frustrating.

I was still averaging around 83% pass completion and 62% possession, but despite averaging some 20 shots to my opponents 5, I was losing or drawing A LOT...more than your 'occasional upset' you'd expect, much like the dreadful ME in FM14.

For example...

1st game.... Two crosses to the back post that Mertesacker/Koscielny ignored their instruction to mark tightly and allowed the players an acre of space to nod home

2nd game... Two free kicks conceeded all game, both on the edge of the area vs Conference opposition. Their winger stuck both in the top corner. Both conceded by players with 'stay on feet' and 'ease off tackles' selected.

3rd game... 35 yard strike despite 6 players in front of him and having been closed down by two of them.

4th game... Two headers from corners by players marked by my centrebacks, who have high marking stats, who simply let them go. Apparently Conference wingers are deadball specialists...

Not sure how you can alter the tactic to counteract those kinds of goals - they're not indicative of an inherent problem with the tactic. I may let it run a whole season and then see where the majority of goals are coming from to try and get a better feel.

I may work on it over the weekend when I have time to give it some attention.

You'd need more than just that - every player has a ton of individual instructions.

Whats the pitch size Ed please, after losing with Leeds 8-0 at home v Guincamp in a friendly after Bellusci was sent off after 30 mins, I thought I would have a gander for some tactics, in theory I set my players up the best I could except maybe the wingers due to Leeds not having any natural wingers. I signed Chris Eagles so that is a start.
