Yeah would agree with this. Still Messi's to lose, think Mbappe should be out of the running now though whereas Griezmann has a shot.

Tbf if Mbappe scores a hat-trick on Sunday then suddenly the tide turns back to him again, but yeah if France win then Griezmann should be considered depending on the performance of course.

You can't take a player with 5 goals and 2 assists out of the running though. Particularly when he's not scored a bunch of penalties like Messi. And he's made the difference again today for the second goal. I think he's been very good

I'm pretty surprised by how long Mbappe is with the bookies - Messi 1/5 favourite, Mbappe 9/2, Griezmann 8/1. I'm sure it's not but you'd almost think it's decided beforehand with how nailed on they have Messi.

It would be ridiculous for him to win two World Cups as the best player on his team and not to win the award.

Messi already has one, I don't think he'd care about getting one more pity award if he loses again.

All jokes aside, it looked like another tournament where Messi was going to lay chances on a plate only for his striker to squander them. Like before with Higuaín, Agüero, Palacio and probably others that escape my mind.

Thanks for reminding me I said this @aggressive minor, as if he scored a hat trick and still everyone quite happily agrees Messi was player of the tournament think it goes some way to showing just how good Messi was overall and in the final
