All of these Big teams can be beat on the counter if you have Pace, flair and a solid defense...because they often underestimate your team if it doesn't have 11 Star Players making huge salaries.

My best was a FLA (Brazil), a super team in all but reputation, crushed them using Fluid-Counterattack Template and Attacking mentality. All the games during that World Championship Run were blowouts created by beautiful Counter Football. (Like 4-0).

Yes it definitely helps when the opposition underestimate you

That's some excellent progress particularly in Europe!

Are you using the same tactical set up or something different for these games?

Cheers :D - I have shamelessly plug-and-played with the same tactic every game regardless of who we're playing.

We're in a so called 'title race' though unless we manage a 100% finishing record and PSG have a melt down I'd say it's highly unlikely. We can always hope!

World Cup Draw

A tough World Cup group, facing holders France (who also won Euro 2020) as well as a decent Mexico side. New Zealand won't be push overs, but we should overcome them. We recently lost a friendly 5-1 to England :(.

CL final here we come! We face Chelsea who topped our group, a draw at home and loss at Stamford Bridge means we know each other well. We're also playing in Munich, a place we've already won at this season by beating Bayern.

Apart from the loss to Auxerre, it's been an outstanding couple of months. Knocking out the El Classico duo to get into the final is of course the highlight, but also great strides in the league with a 6-1-1 record including 4-0, 5-0 and 8-0 wins!

League Table

We finished just 8 points away from PSG, a lot closer than last season, mostly helped by PSG dropping a lot more points. We improved on last years tally by 3 points.

It's the Lukaku derby; Romelu up top for Chelsea, Jordan at left back for us. Both teams line up with a 4-1-2-3 wide, Chelsea clear favourites.

The years without a major trophy came to an end for Lens in 2022 and it was the big one! We didn't have an easy draw at any point throughout the tournament, beating Bayern home and away, Man City on away goals, a tight win against Barcelona, following by an outstanding 4-0 thumping away in Madrid which we held on to at home without conceding. 1-0 down at half time, we showed determination to get back into the final, academy product Diakite scoring 10 minutes into the 2nd half followed by super-sub Kouassi Kassi netting the winner in injury time. Lens become only the second French club to win Europe's elite trophy, the last being Marseille way back in 1993! Stick that in your pipe PSG

With more games than previous seasons there was a lot more emphasis on rotation; out of the 56 games our highest starting appearance holder was defensive rock Kimpembe with 48 starts, followed by Player of the Year Ndombele with 45 starts and 5 sub appearances; I'm delighted to have extended his loan until the end of next season by which time we can hopefully afford his wages. It was a great season for recent academy products Mory Traore and Brehima Diakite - the former become first choice keeper with 40 starts in all competitions, the latter ending the season with Ligue 1's highest average rating with 12 goals and 12 assists in 20 appearances as well as scoring in the Champions League Final. While loanee Ndombele was our fans player of the year, the rest of the top 3 was made up by Doucare and Aurier, both of whom are products of Sang et Or's youth system showing what a hotbed for talent it is.

With a lot of cash being thrown at us from the Champions League as well as the Ligue 1 prize money our bank balance is looking very healthy, despite forking out over £30m on expanding our stadium to 47k! Our facilities are now all 'State of the Art' to add to our exceptional junior coaching and youth recruitment. It is now, finally, a great time to be a Lens fan :brock:

How did you manage to get him for 11m you lucky git. I had to pay top whack for him in my Lyon save but he was worth it as he was awesome.

It wasn't the first time we'd bidded for him, I can only assume he was unsettled and Rennes were in financial trouble. 10m upfront but another 20m to add to our transfer debt...

The AI Teams underestimated your team...Congratulations on being Champions League Winner! That is quite an accomplishment. PSG must be embarrassed that they are paying Neymar as much as your whole team and they still can't win that trophy!

They certainly did, thanks :D. And yes it is rather embarrassing for PSG, we've one the trophy they're desperately after:

July 2022 Transfers Update

Outgoing

14529f28865c88453d699e3070635870.png

We sold off a lot of our fringe players while their stock was high. Cisse, Thiam, Traore and Bangoura are all decent players, but not ones that are capable of taking us to the next level. The stand out transfer is Cornet to Milan; it was the kind of money that couldn't be turned down despite him being our top scorer last season. All the best in Milan Maxwel!

Incoming

734526e4af66746f4cc829630c875163.png

Ndiaye ~ Diabate ~ Onguene ~ Wamangituka

Ndiaye is an excellent, experienced box-to-box midfielder who has come in to be a squad player plugging the gap left by Cisse & Thiam with more quality. Diabate takes Cornet place in the squad, though he will be our backup AMR while Brehima Diakite is promoted to first choice indefinitely. The next two are the ones, alongside Camavinga, that really strengthen our first 11 going into the new season. Onguene is a star for Cameroon and it was a no-brainer to get him in when he was interested in signing and we had the money for do so. Silas is the 'pacy hitman' that every hard-pressing side is after. He will lead the line, Ganvoula now down to second choice as he wasn't scoring the goals he managed in his first season with us.

There may be more in's and out's, but I was excited to update on the squad as of 1st July :)

He is worth the investment and big teams will bid big for him after a season or 2, trust me as I sold him for 80m plus clauses when I was managing Lyon.

Wow, congrats on the CL triumph - amazing to land that trophy so soon.

Nice to see your squad development plans. I like Silas but would question if he is really going to be so much better than Ganvoula. The debut suggests he might be! Camavinga is another awesome player to recruit. A competitive defensive midfielder with superb skill and dribbling ability, and a silky left peg.

Good luck for the season ahead and with your vision you'll be hoping that Lens keep even closer contact (see what I did there) with PSG in  your quest to win Ligue 1.

Thanks, it was definitely well ahead of schedule! Silas seems to either be great or poor; when he is poor Ganvoula plays the super-sub role :brock:. Agreed Camavinga has been a target from day one and delighted to have secured him. Cheers

August - November 2022 Update

We couldn't add to our silverware after losing to Arsenal in the European Super Cup, however form has been good. Just one other defeat before the WC break, which came away to RBL. We've drawn 0-0 at home twice, against Monaco which is more forgivable but also against Strasbourg. Since our opening CL loss to RBL we went from strength-to-strength, ending with a 9-0 win against Dinamo away! We've kept up our unbeaten run in the league too.

League Table

ccc97fd35722a7e58fad839c66ae9523.png

Thomas Tuchel left for Chelsea, making way for Sarriball to arrive at PSG. Sarri added Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Bernardeschi, Wober & Kante to fit his favourite 4-3-1-2 and they sit atop the table with a 100% record. We're not far behind them and we open 2023 with them at home.

Champions League

ed68e3788318b421aef5223fb157d5d4.png

A comfortable qualification in the end, our opponents in the knockouts is yet to be announced but it will be one of 2nd placed Man Utd, Spurs, Milan, Arsenal, Valencia, Shakhtar or Napoli.

Additional Transfers

fca0951ae1c21b72493301fedc515058.png

Kinfounia ~ Melchior ~ Toure ~ Nzogang ~ M'Changama ~ Hery ~ Deffo ~ Tientcheu

Our first team had been build up with key arrivals, but our U19s were looking a bit sparse so we invested heavily in youth with the remaining transfer budget. They're all decent, but the biggest prospects are centre back Toure, striker Hery and regista Tientcheu.

Player Stats

df4ae7cb7502f783a5d9fd58255f0299.png

Silas is our top scorer so far, while Boga is our top creator and Camavinga is smashing the average ratings. Onguene and Kimpembe have formed a rock solid partnership at centre back.

The squad is set, a good set of experience as well as a few young stars including our very own Fotso and Kongnyuy. Our centre back partnership Onguene & Matip combined with the class of Onana behind them will be crucial if we are to make any kind of progress. We start with the toughest tie we could have, France. But what could make that even tougher?
