  1. November 2021 Update An unbeaten run, only tainted by a superb defensive performance from Famalicao to deny us a 100% record for November. Comprehensive victories in Europe and knocking holders Benfica out the cup. We go into the final game having already won the group and secured a place in the 2nd knockout round. We will travel to Bosnia with a young side to see what they're made of. A win and a draw this month has kept us up there with the big teams - 2nd but teams below us have games in hand.
  2. I'm here for the climb nice work so far. As you're playing in a fortress I propose the following achievements: Season unbeaten at home Season unbeaten at home (top flight) Season unbeaten at home (inc Europe) Season without conceding at home. What else would a fortress be for 💪
  3. October 2021 Update Aves seem to a bit of a bogey club as they beat us AGAIN with us dominating, but after that we hit fantastic form. Smashing Montpellier for 6 and scoring 3 goals 3 games in a row in the league It's all very tight at the top, Porto will be expected to win their games in hand though. This is getting exciting!!
  4. September 2021 Update A disappointing month. Back-to-back losses to Braga wasn't too unexpected, but the loss against Aves was crazy. 71% possession, 29 shots to their 8 and much better chances. Meh, it happens We signed him, looks like a cracking prospect and i hope his bravery/aggression make up for his lack of size. More improvements Normality is starting to resume, I think Braga are worthy of making it a 'big 4' rather than the traditional 'big 3'.
  5. Got this lad on trial - he looks promising so far but he's only 5ft tall
  6. August 2021 Update An unbeaten start to the season with a very solid defence to go with it. Wins vs Sporting, draw vs Benfica and thrashing of Basel being the highlight. Benfica lost their unbeaten run in their opener to Porto who are the only side with a 100% record. Braga looking good once again. Trips to France, Ukraine and Bosnia await in the Europa Conference League, we should get to the KO's from this group
  7. I was expecting Basel to be tough opponents but we've absolutely thumped them!!!
  8. Well, that took an unexpected turn. I assume it's because I said we could get more for him?
  9. Just when things were looking rosy with the chairman he decides to go behind our backs and accept an offer for Afonso Sousa I feel we could get more for him!!
  10. July 2020 Update Some more signings since the start of July. We opted to cash in on Keaton Parks which enabled us to bring in another Costinha, this time a right back, and his replacement David Tavares who is high potential. We've also signed youngster Joao Ponte who has a team of mentors to get him up to scratch - his scout report was 90% Affiliates We're now hoping to get some quality Slavs coming through Ooossshh we're getting commercial. The more money we can rake in the better we can compete with the big boys. Club Icon and Ponta Delgada local Pedro Pacheco becomes the first manager of our B side who are currently competing in the 4th tier. Taca de Liga A nice start to the season with an exciting 4-2 win over Boavista see's us through to the groups of the league cup. I'm hoping we can progress past the groups for the first time.
  11. Massive pay rise...Mr. Chairman you shouldn't have
  12. One minute after being re-elected, Mr. Chairman calls me in for contract talks. Nice to have a good relationship with one!
  13. Just caught up on this, very interesting to see the champagne football spring into action and I think the tycoon adds more flavour to it. Champagne is expensive, afterall.. Looking back at the signing and retirement of Ricardo Ferreira was interesting, he's one I've signed in my save but with an injury release clause which I may have to use if he, of course, messes his knee up again. Congrats on promotion and the top half finish and good luck for the season ahead. I reckon you could push for a European place!
  14. Atletico have started very well! Going to be a tense race for the title I feel. 2nd place at least in the CL group. What we can guarantee is goals goals goals!
  15. One more added to the already incoming Lovric and Pedro Mendes. Gabriel Veron has a bright future ahead of him, only £800k of the deal paid upfront.
  16. We've gone from a first team and u19s with no players, to a first team, B team, u23s and u19s. Growth
  17. Blackburn bidded Costinha's value and I accepted, mainly because we needed money for this: Mendes is exactly what we want up top. Never scored a goal or started a game, I think he will finally find his feet with us.
  18. Squad Review 1st June 2021 Goalkeepers Joel Pereira is our No.1 and I'd say he's set to be for years to come unless a bigger club comes in with a big offer. Still room to develop despite being close to 25. Before the arrival of Joel Pereira, Marco was our No. 1, though donned his favoured No. 99 shirt. His contract runs out at the end of the month and I'm torn between giving him a new contract to sit on the bench or let him go. Andre Ferreira has just turned 25 but has played just 1 league game in his two seasons at the club. He's more of a traditional keeper as opposed to my favoured sweeper-keeper type so doesn't get a look in. If Marco stays, I will offload him. If not I will probably keep him as JP's understudy as I don't see the point splashing out cash or higher wages for a No. 2 keeper. Right Backs Rafa has been a key performer both attacking wise and defence wise over the course of the two season despite looking rather average. On paper this is an area we could look to strengthen, but I'd be reluctant to bin him off to the bench. Steven Pereira is well below the required standard so we will definitely need to bring in a right back even if they're to be Rafa's understudy. Both Sagna and Patrick Vieira left in January - Sagna for being a moany git and Vieira to Vasco da Gama after we opted not to give him a new contract (he wanted over £4k a week!) Left Backs Sanusi is one of my favourites. For what he lacks in real attacking ability he makes up for with his pace and his tackling ability and is the most determined in the squad. His place is secure for now and I'm sure he'll be offered a new contract soon Joao Lucas is a very capable second choice, adding a lot more to attack than Zanusi but lacking a bit of defensive quality. Centre Backs The star of in the heart of our defence, though we will have to be careful not to rely on him too heavily because he has a £3.4m release clause. Captain Fabio is a good all rounder and still has 4/5 years of his best football ahead of him. Happy with him as starting CB alongside Ivanildo, they compliment each other well. Ricardo 'Sick Note' Ferreira has *touch wood* managed to stay injury free so far and he's a good player to have as a rotation option. If he does his knee again he will be swiftly got rid of with his injury clause. Cesar was first choice last season and for half of this season but with the arrival of Ivanildo and Ferreira he's ended up down the pecking order. I'm happy to keep him on as a back up option. Joao Afonso is now the wrong side of 30 and his composure, vision and acceleration in single figures show he's not the kind of CB we want for high press or playing out. He will be offloaded. Centre Mids Player of the season Vitor Ferreira returns for another season on loan and is a great all rounder. Getting him for another season is a real coup for the club. Another returning loanee, Alfa is the brawn to Vitor Ferreira's brains. The ideal box-to-box midfielder. Afonso Sousa was the casualty of the switch to two up top, losing his place in the starting 11. He's a cracking player though and still got room to develop further. I really like his player traits and that as a creative player he also has pace. He's currently being trained at AML to add another quality option there. Keaton hasn't been the star he could have been, but he's a good squad player to have and one we could make a bit of money on in the future. At 6'4, he's another player giving a physical presence to the side. Andy Carvalho is a player I've liked the look of from day one, but injuries kept him out last season and the quality of those in front of him this season. I will probably move him on as we're overloaded with centre midfield options. Marques was out on loan in the first season and has been a back up this season. I'm happy to keep him on as a backup player if Carvalho is sold, providing he doesn't start whinging about playing time. He's adequate enough to cover the DLP or BBM roles in a crisis. Wide Players Costinha has been our first choice AML when we moved away from the 4-2-3-1 formation and Carlos Jr. was out injured and he's done a decent enough job there to keep his place. He will have to battle it out with Lovric for the position next season. A star last season, no more than a rotation option this season. His loan deal is up at the end of the month and I'm not willing to pay the £2m+ that 3rd tier side Louletano want for him so this will be the end of his time in the Azores. Santana has been our top scorer two seasons in a row, though this time from his re-trained AMR position. I'm happy with him being our first choice there next season, adding a bit of height and aggression from one of the wide positions. Lincoln has scored a fair few goals this season off the bench and I'm happy for him to continue to be 2nd choice AMR behind Santana. Ze Manuel is now the wrong side of 30 and failed to become natural at AML, so it's time for him to be offloaded. Strikers Gabriel Fernandez didn't have a good start with us, failing to score a single goal in February or March, but a big turnaround when we switched to a front two meant it was a no-brainer to get him in for another season. He's very capable as a complete forward, using his strength to act as an effective hold up player and linking well with the Pressing Forward and wide players. I had a brief moment in January were Amang was going to be transfer-listed, but I opted not too and he's been given more time to impress. A huge improvement since being able to play alongside Fernandez, though the fact that we only have a couple of striker options (Santana and Afonso Sousa can cover) we will be looking to spend our budget on another man up top so Amang could be consigned to the role of super-sub if the striker we get in is of better quality. Hot Prospects Picanco has been developing rapidly since coming through our youth ranks in March 2020 and he's not far off being ready for some first team action. He lacks the mental attributes, but he's aggressive and has ridiculous pace. Cup games for him next season. Breno is a player I'm really excited about. Snapped up from one of the other islands in the Azores he's had a season of rapid development and is another who deserves a shot in the first team when the opportunity arises.
  19. First signing secured for next season. A bit of a punt as can't see all his attributes yet but as a freebie I think he's worth getting in after a good scout report. Also managed to get him on lower wages than the scout anticipated
  20. It looked at one point that we were going to make a backwards step in our development after some bouts of poor form, but we managed to turn it around in the end and finish 5th for the second consecutive season. Average attendances are up, there's a buzz around the club Player Stats For the second season running our player of the season is a loanee, this time in the form of deep-lying playmaker Vitor Ferreira. Defensive mainstay Rafael Ramos wasn't far off in 2nd, while captain Fabio Cardoso rounded off the top 3. I'm going to do a squad review for my next update so no player profile screenshots for now. Despite all our tinkering it looks as though a 4-1-4-1 was our most commonly used. Here's the overall player stats. Costinha and Santana have both successful re-trained into wide players and Costinha was our most creative player and Santana our top scorer for the second season running. Carlos Jr picked up a lot of niggles and struggled to get in the side this year. Both full backs, Sanusi and Romas, provided their share of chances and assists. Transfers Overall I'm happy with our inbound transfer activity. Amang didn't get the goals that we needed, especially as a lone striker, but I'm not putting him down as a flop just yet as I think he will fare much better in a front-two. I realised I never posted a screenshot of Breno Alvernaz, a young Azorean centre mid snapped up from Terceira's premier side Praiense - he will get one in the next update. All three of our loanees - Ferreira, Semedo and Fernandez - have been snapped up for another season loan. Keaton Parks didn't start a many games as expected, but as a freebie he's a good squad player and one we could make a bit of money on in the future. Our marquee signings of Joel Pereira and Ivanildo have really strengthened our back line. Most of our outgoings were a case of clearing out deadwood. More left in Jan, mainly players who were moaning about not getting enough football. Shame, as with moving to a front two now Schettine and Crysan could have featured more. Facilities Our setup is starting to look like one that is worthy of being in the top flight, though we're still a long way off if we really want to develop young players through the club. Hopefully we are able to continue financing this. Finances A healthy bank balance and a profit of £2.5m over the course of the sesson is a good position to be in especially compared to the general finances in Portugal, though we have been losing money outside of being in Europe. It is crucial that we continue to at least qualify for the group stages to make enough money to keep developing.
  21. April / May 2021 Update We finished the season in style, winning 5 out of 6 and all by two or more goals. Gabriel Hernandez managed to get 4 goals and even Amang got a couple, with the usual suspects of Costinha, Santana and Lincoln adding goals too and rare goals from Afonso Sousa! So how have we turned it around: 4-2-fookin'-4. Our possession stats are off the charts compared to previous as we barely let the opposition out their own half and our strikers have each other to work off. With the strong finish we consolidated our place in the top 6 and thanks to Benfica beating Rio Ave on the final day we pipped 5th place. Benfica had an outstanding season - going unbeaten, getting to the Champions League Semi's and still got a cup final to play against Porto. We finished on the same points tally as last season of 57, albeit with less goals scored and more conceded. Providing we win the play-off game, we will play in the inaugural Europa Conference League .
  22. We may have turned it round update to come later!
  23. A nice partnership to build on. I've added the Bulgarian Parva Liga in for next season.
  24. Yeah I've been doing a lot of tactical changes recently trying to find something I like the look of, even more changes of late! Very happy with the additions to the squad.
