Cruised through into the 2nd Knockout round, as expected. FCSB are a very good team, but we're better. Even if our reputation isn't the best it could be.

Very interesting tie, I get the feeling I can take the game to them. Not the best team we've gotten results against. The key will be getting a win at home, anything else and I feel we're done.

Major signing of our window. strengthening the midfield and still a fair bit of room to grow. Really well rounded player who could feasibly rotate through anywhere in the side if we get desperate. Keen to place him in our midfield  though.

Slavia Sofia vs Lazio

Leg 1

Slavia kick off the proceedings in front of a 35000 strong crowd.

First Chance 32nd Minute

SAVED, pushed away by Kapino as De Vrij scrambles the ball away to deny Slavia the lead.

Half Time

A tepid first half draws to a close, only one chances throughout the entirety of the proceedings. Slavia dominating possession with 62% of the ball but unable to find a way through the Italian Sides defence.

Second Half

49th Minute

Poor positioning by Yomov at the free kick gives Carcela an opening as Cataldi plays a lovely through ball over the defence

4ff176e6ff66f3b5e3331d09bcbf08ff.png

He takes his touch and the Slavia defenders rapidly close in around him, blocking his way to the goal, but is there an opening?

fe392b41a0454dda9074f187004683bb.png

SAVED, buried straight at Naumov who parries it away as Metodiev cleans up the scraps to bury the ball out for a throw in.

55th Minute

Yomov spies an opening off the back of Yoskov's movement, Yoskov is once again away from the defence, plenty of time to take his shot...

BLASTS WIDE! Out for a goalkick, Price has his head in his hands as the stadium lets out a cry of disappointment.

63rd Minute

Play from the left hand side of the field finds its way to the middle of the park where Yoskov spies the run by Yomov who surges past the defence.

GOAL!!!! Buried into the Top Corner as Slavia take the lead.

FULL TIME

Slavia have pulled off a stunning result here, but will their poor finishing cost them in the second leg as they go away?

When you chose to take Karabelyov off in the 64th to keep him for Leg 2 but the game didn't sub him out until he got himself suspended. R.I.P.

Massive first leg win!

But sadly your gif doesn't post properly. I'm not entirely sure, what is the problem, but I sometime have the same issue as you seem to have here. If the link for the gif ends with '.mp4' it doesn't post properly on the forum, so I usually load up the gif again and change the url to end with '.gif' and then copy it and post it. That usually works.

Leg 2

Lazio vs Slavia

The lack of Karabelyov spoke volumes about out squads level of depth as we were forced to turn to Benjamin Cain to pick up the slack. A very good player, more than capable fo doing well in the Bulgarian division, but not quite ready JUST yet for the rigours of Europe. Hopefully we could coax a great performance out of him though.

24th Minute

First chance of the game

Yoskov feeds Vujanic through after a defensive lapse by the Italian...

f8cd82b222e481ea32278635c207a745.png

Their defence rapidly swarms in, intent on stopping the shot...

4ebaa6c2de8f4909643cfc17d27026e8.png

BLOCKED, last gasp effort by Trippier spoils the shot and the ball is whipped out left to Wallace who surges down the line to start a Lazio counter attack.

Ball is played to Parolo... Immobile times his run...

9427e8f047b8baddcd1d20a273b035be.png

The offside flag stays down...

3ea9983ac5f475e20b453a9867b6253c.png

A tempting through ball finds Carcela.

GOAL 1-0 LAZIO

Buries the one on one into the near post and Naumov is disappointed as Lazio find themselves on the scoreboard with plenty of football to come. Sofia need a goal...

HALF TIME

1-0 Lazio

Similar match-up as the one seen in the game in Bulgaria, Sofia are finding their way around the pitch with the ball at their feet, but little to no end product shown.

53rd Minute

Clinton spies a route over the top of the defence, caught out yet again as Immobile speeds pass them...

d45a4a8d659881aad7bdbbc98b9cfac4.png

Immobile One on One...

ed0bfa0f7645320dc7906977e595d229.png

SCUFFS HIS SHOT, out for a tepid goalkick and the Slavia fans breathe a sigh of relief.

65th Minute

GOAL LAZIO

2-0

An innocuous free kick flies in and meets the head of Cataldi, blasted past Naumov and the Italian side has the ascendency.

Price is urging his team forward, an away goal is the only thing that can save them now...

87th Minute

Cain is still on the field, a strong performance from the youngster as Moldoveanu makes his run, poor positioning by Wallace gifting him the opportunity.

65dc46808acaa040b35eea7c295d4500.png

He takes it inside the box, wide of the keeper... room for a shot...

INTO THE SIDE NETTING!

Just wide, Moldoveanu has his head in his hands as do the rest of the Sofia fans as the rest of the match runs out.

Full Time

2-0 Lazio

2-1 on Aggregate.

dd0933774c7d538356826208a495ebb0.png

Inches wide of a massive giant killing effort, we weren't  the better team over the two legs though, shots counted for little when Lazio made the majority of chances.

Domestically we're still in with chances to clinch the Cup and League so a double isn't out of the question.

End of Season 2018/19

There would be no slaughtering of the division this year, too distracted by Europe we let a few results slip through our grasp. Headed into the Champions Playoff though, we held a 7 point vantage over the other sides. With 10 games left, letting slip the title seemed like an impossibility.

Then in our final few games we fell off a cliff.

911597ca1e489debd9f1949e63c5652c.png

Right after we won the Bulgarian Cup we just could not seem to play football. Dropping 10/12 points and letting everyone back into the title race.

Did it cost us?

0f94ef3c9b45951919f180b3f4319922.png

A choke of monumental proportions. Relegated to the Europa League for the next season, a massive fall from grace and a blow to our finances. Our board still pushed through and acquired our Stadium, the Slavia now under our control and available for expansion whenever we so desire it. Which given our 15k strong crowds is but a few seasons away as we continue to attract the citizens of Sofia with our style of play. Hefty cost to our finances however and I'm now only in surplus by about 4mil, this year will be a tight one on the budget.

In good news, our form in Europe was massive for the league. A rise from 17th to 14th co-efficient gave us a very valuable addition.

9b00133398703537251e6f29c8cfd6b3.png

Next season there'll be two slots for the Champions League.

So what are the aims for next season?

Yoskov, Karabelyov and Yomov's loans have ended, after a brief moral quandary I've decided to halt plans on an all out Europa League assault. We will still target a knockout stage but this year and the added freedom of two Champions League spots have opened us to another alternative.

Youth Development

da0fa46eaf790efdb1100e2b8f785b7f.png

We've cleared out our stocks primarily of our backups and will be turning to the Youth we've been churning out this year, much like season one where we'll bank on their development over the course of the season to both stay competitive but also to prepare us for the next.

Notables

Atanasov

Popov

Ganchev

Iliev

91cab76adcecf60da2c3c62919123c9c.png

Atanasov and Popov are two that I have very high hopes for, but Enchev is the one I like the most. His tackling may be low for a BWM and a lot of his attributes seem low. However, I've got a monumentally good feeling about him based off his development over the past season where he first came into the club. Development that should only soar with even more first team football. Tomov is slowly coming into his own and will earn a lot of game time this year. Iliev will sit behind Moldoveanu as our second choice striker, a risky proposition but he needs gametime and I'm happy to provide.

While frugality has been the primary focus, the shortening of our stocks at AMC did spur some spending and Casap and Kraev come in to fill those holes left behind by our squad turnover.

fd4809f57cb4636826560b3bb4b1dc26.png

With all this in mind, I'm also contemplating removing the Bulgarian Manager from the job and applying myself. Would be very interested in trying to lead the talent we've been developing to a World Cup...

Brutal end to the season.

Wasn't pleasant, to be fair the squad was going to be very difficult to replace with or without CL football so we were headed for a transitional year regardless.

Might have to take our foot off the gas for a season or two to properly restructure our side. Like for like replacements are rapidly getting too expensive for my tastes :herman:

Some solid prospects for the future, and I agree with @kidthekid, I like Yoskov's replacement and see it as a like for like - perhaps minor upgrade.

Yeah he was pretty much a straight swap, but Yoskov's incredibly reliable so he'll have some work to do to match expectations.

I've almost resigned three times since the end of the season, so I'm very close to just forgetting the club ever happened haha, still sticking around though.

Season Update 2019/2020 Part Two

7a3595700fec848c61ba4648bd7c1e80.png

Strong start in the league, squad is having to battle for results with a bit more effort required than last year but we're managing to stay on course. Negotiated with the board for an 'Around the Top of the League finish' which effectively means so long as we make the Champions Playoff (6th) they'll be happy.

2c88d449358bccc548109f763fe9199c.png

We should do better. The table is packed up to 8th place, so hopefully we can break away from the pack over the coming weeks. There are no easy games though, as we're finding out this season.

Europa League Qualification

c6ae5222dc43a24144e286b44a25ef60.png

Breezed through off the back of a higher seeding, getting very beatable opponents. Our First XI and our main Europe force is still very strong, it's just outside of that where the youth are taking over, getting most of their development in the First League.

Started life in our group stage fairly well

b92fe5b7c4dae5d14a516573e2ae9d09.png

Good result vs Maccabi but we squandered a lead vs Feyenoord after Mijailovic got sent off. Valencia was a lot closer than the score suggests with 12 shots each and us winning possession, we just lacked defensively.

cede89148cf2de4459fba370528a87ac.png

With Valencia and Feyenoord coming home, we're looking at sealing qualification fairly easily.

In terms of our youth prospects, taking back what I said regarding Enchev, this far into the season we're finding a great midfield partnership in Ganchev and Atanasov. Looking at the pair being in control of our midfield moving into the future. They've also showed some great development over the last few months, so hopefully they continue the trend for the rest of the season and beyond.

Freaking Ludogorets. It's always freaking Ludogorets. I don't think you'll find anyone in this forum that likes them, they're a massive pain. Hated them when managing in Bulgaria.

Go get them this year.

Solid run through the group, the win Valencia was gorgeous, but Maccabi Haifa was even better. Restricted them to a single shot on target in their own backyard.

Heading into the final day the table looked like this.

93ba9a73d63d5233d0d81e2766174041.png

At home vs Feyenoord, a win and we take 1st in the group, anything else and we were likely to finish second or even 3rd depending on whether Feyenoord could do better than the 1-1 draw we held them too in Holland.

defc73da736fdd10da5aabb4d8365c11.gif

Our Youth Gamble paid off, Tomov coming in the clutch to send us out with a 1-0 victory.

2cc1f6a9369d27617be1b3113af98682.png

Great results, about 1.3mil in the coffers due to results and over a million in gate receipts. Given our wage budget which I'm still keeping low at 50kp/w the money is coming in huge for us and we've lifted back up to 10 million in the white.

The biggest benefit of course, is more European Football and more game time for our youth.

Round of 32 Opponent

8f1bd2a62a1ade1ee20ef143e3d87e56.png

Very beatable.

And with one game left before the Winter Break here is the League Table

d65e3d15bdf79c213f8e6819ad78da69.png

Breaking away from the pack with some solid results. Hopefully we can add another 3 points and head into January with a strong lead. Beroe must be playing the most negative football alive, but they're getting results so... :applause:

Too easy.

38de24d2c21c792576cffb24981b6782.png

Now it gets a bit harder. Unlike last year, I definitely don't think we're getting past this stage, but we'll remain optimistic.

New Job

Bulgaria_football_union.png

Poor performance by Hubchev actually had him Insecure so I felt less terrible about taking over the role.

66fe028f47a722ce3fa4d998230d15f2.png

World Cup Qualification is a year out, one more season to develop anyone I can get my hands on. I'm very optimistic for the 2026 World Cup, when the majority of our players will be at their absolute peak, now it's just about putting the blocks in place.

All looking good domestically though - perhaps not a transitional season after all?

Even after Gabriel Barbosa's first goal I was like "I can deal with that." 10 minutes later I could not deal with it at all bahaha.

Yeah, pleasantly surprised on the domestic front, was expecting a tight battle for 2nd or so but Ludogorets have been struggling, great news for me!

End of Season Update 2019/20

2f1e8c233ab6afe54b6f78ef875d35b4.png

Fantastic run in saw us clinch the title in the match against CSKA Sofia, with 4 left to play we kept up the youth investment and it's been paying off in spades.

Nikolov is quickly staking a claim for the RB position. He spent most of the season transitioning from LWB but now that he's comfortable there, its starting to pay dividends.

4b14e130850ab4a8dcc2e2528c070f3c.png

Atanasov is definitely the most improved this year and earning a place in the First Team on merit, the sky is the limit as it stands and I decided to grant him his first Bulgarian Cap after a great end to the season.

A 20 Point gap, curious to see if it'll grow even greater with an additional year of development. Litex unfortunately lost in the playoff to the First Division, but as our loan base, hopefully we guys we send them this year can finally get them to where they deserve to be.

Our Europe Run gave us some great news.

dae8aad30a2a7fa484476006d5667162.png

Next season we battle for an automatic Group Stage place.

Transfers

To prepare us for the season we've made three signings.

Bahtarliev

b7335d73f1fa82e575c5670b57a979c9.png

Long-term replacement to Stoyanov at GK, will definitely be given some First Team football this season. Whether he's the future Bulgarian Number One is in doubt thanks to the existence of Bashliev, but he's very, very promising.

Grgic

2a06b10e1db2237a59aaf8e160bbddf7.png

The Australian CB I always wanted yet never got in my BMG/Australia Save. Incredibly good and on a free as well.

Krejcik

841a71c405b062ca21da72eeed0235f0.png

What a player.

Future Ideas

Going to give it another 2 seasons at Slavia and leave when my contract runs down, I do however plan on staying in Bulgaria. Whether I drop down to do some work with Lokomotiv Sofia/Litex if they're still not promoted or move to a team like Botev Plovdiv remains to be seen. Keeping it fresh while still staying Bulgaria should be fun. Plus there'll be the additional challenge of taking down Slavia when they're likely to be an incredibly strong team.

Interesting. Not to sure what they can offer us really, facilities are all at 4.5* and with CL football coming through with our added low wage budget, it's not like I'm lacking in funds. Luckily it came at the end of the window when we weren't looking for players anyway.

Bit frustrating but also a very promising sign that we could dominate them that significantly. Ever so slight improvements needed to make a real giant killer out of this squad, hopefully this season can give me the development needed to launch a full scale Europe Assault headed into my last season at the club. Any and all transfers I could make are not improvements on what we have, with a slight exception perhaps for Left-Back. Perhaps I've taken them as far as I can now...

Champions League Update 2020/21

One highlight in the whole game, completely grinded our way to survival.

Finally picked up a positive result, absolutely dominating them.

67b956501c4710c955304fe2b8000222.png

Manchester still have to come to Bulgaria, the most important match we'll face, in addition we absolutely MUST get a result against Porto if we want a glimmer of a chance at the 2nd Round of the CL.

Takeover Completed

33c8b05285ae8d17dc9163c42551dbf6.png

11mil pumped into the Club, transfer budget lifted to 11 million and most notable, our policies of Youth Signings and Development have been lifted.

We used the transfers to make some signings immediately, January reinforcements en route.

d3e320779793be390a4dd569ba77cfe3.png

Celis adds some bite to the midfield, also brings tutoring capacity mentality wise. Helping to raise some of the attributes of our developing midfield. Really well balanced player.

We did ourselves no justice in the back half of the Group, throwing away a 1-0 lead against Porto and conceding late vs Inter. The Manchester United Game was out of our hands though, simply outclassed.

373339f04654d4e580449a38a2d23100.png

Luckily we scraped into 3rd, Porto playing well below expectations.

31b6881760f4f5f8de7f949649d75520.png

With Benfica next, we need some massive improvement if we're going to succeed.

Transfers

Two more players in. We offloaded Casap for 1.4mil after we brought in Samuel

18e107109bc6b1f17b6e95d74c16a57e.png

His technical attributes leave a lot to be desired, but he still has room to grow and Casap had been largely uninspiring so removing him didn't tug on the heart strings too much.

Congo is the major deal that I'm very satisfied with

31f4094895357056785bbd1fbca76842.png

400k deal for a very impressive Centre Back. After looking at perhaps offloading Metodiev and letting him venture into Europe, Congo is both a replacement but also an investment because his resale value will be incredible provided we develop him properly. He's also first team ready, so extra depth to the squad as we negotiate Europe, a Cup Run and the First League.

Don't beat yourself up because you lost the last 3 group matches, that was a very very good CL run for a Bulgarian side. 2-0 the biggest defeat in a group containing Man Utd, Inter and Porto is fantastic.
