xx11
Aye, the start of the season is a bitch when trying to keep everyone happy. Because I go into every season with a set team in mind for each competition the top class players that are relegated to the "CUP" team are whiney because it not till later in the year the competitions kick off and they get a lot of games. Still it generally eventually works out and I tell them to stfu all the time to begin with
scott MUFC
getting hard to get an established 11, got Kagawa performing better then Bernard, Januzaj hasn't been producing as much, Rooney and Welbeck been producing, RvP gets injured (but is still 3rd highest league scorer so far) Stuffed Arsenal most of the games goals came in the last 5 minutes. thanks to injuries and registrations, Had to play a 90% Fellaini and Alaba in CM (would usualy have Jones or Bender, to backup Fellaini in this situation, both injured)
xx11
And here is Januzaj's best season yet. Admittingly there are alot of penalties in there but even so it is amazing. From playing in a Roaming Left Wing position he is now the Premier leagues top scorer in history ... beating Andy Cole by a single goal with a Brace in the final game of the season. His assists aren't very high this season but I guess he was being a little more greedy and scoring himself.
Jimmy Valentine
Hey guys! Nice thread! I have had a Utd save every year as I am a big Utd fan! I havent been around this forum for a while but I actually used to be quite the regular! The tactics on this version took a lil bit of figuring out for me but I managed to figure it out and have started the season pretty well! I have signed Shaw for around 24m, Gundogan for 28m I think and Pastore for 15m and I sold Cleverley for 14m. I will post some screenshots of my tactics when I load up! I have been impressed so far with RVP/Hernandez and Rooney obviously However my standout players seem to be Kagawa, Smalling, Rafael and Shaw! More soon! Jimmy Valentine
Okay... here is my line-up I'd like to play with at home. And Away.. Keep in mind I play very narrow, my IF are set to sit narrower, run with ball and tend to play more through balls than cross, width is provided by the attacking fullbacks, and seems to work very well with run wide with ball. Results so far... was very unlucky against Arsenal. Absolute wonder goal as well if I remember rightly. And here is an average performance: And a quick look at average positions. I will keep you posted at the end of January!
Falahk
Christ Scott your matches must be pig ugly to watch looking at all the dire pass completion rates. lets try to beat Scott in ugly match stats:
scott MUFC
the problem is trying to work out what is a pass, some of these passes may be heavy first touches, got many corners, crosses that are shockingly bad etc. but the passing for a fair few of my goals are 5 or 6 one touch passes from the back, Luke shaw and Rafael seem to have very heavy first touches. i'm only watcning key, or whatever default is because I like to sometimes do 1 or 2 matches in a short period of time. my Average positions fit in perfectly with what i do, so cant see any flaws. anywho, this match was drab but completed 80% of my passes, stupid bug with keeper randomly walking out of the area after catching the ball... TWICE!!! won the Final, had to play Rooney in CM after that Injury. the passing thing is annoying because I go after those players who can pass. but I'm still winning games, and winning them well. I'm not too concerned due to the recorded and reported bugs regarding the first touch and short passing problems, i'm still winning games, there is no point messing around trying to fix something that might well get fixed without me messing around, if it is the same after the patch then i'll look at it.
xx11
Aye. The passing bug is annoying. Used to have 88%+ passing completion because even my center backs have 16+ in passing and I play short passing, possession based football but at a high tempo. Now I am happy to reach 81% which is still good, but it is a massive drop on what it was. Although regularly it only in the 75% area. And that Goalkeeper bug still in there? Not really had an issue with it since they took away the instant sending off for it, though I must admit there been a couple yellow cards for the keepers which probably are due to that. Only been watching key highlights because my team is so solid there no need to worry in general about what going on. lol

With Benfica I almost always get 85% or more. Jimmy Valentine - I'd have concerns about your home formation. Two attacking fullbacks with wide players in the AM strata means you'll be massively exposed on the flanks. Also, in attacking areas you're going to basically have four players all running into the exact same area of the field. I'd personally give one of your IF's the Attack Duty, (well, I'd actually play Nani as a Winger but if you want IF's fair enough), and change your lone striker to a Complete or Advanced Forward. Right now, the two IF's, Support Striker, and False 9, will often be moving into the exact same space.

Right now, the two IF's, Support Striker, and False 9, will often be moving into the exact same space. When I was reading about tactics on this forum I had concerns about people getting in each other's way, especially the SS and striker, however, I don't believe it to be true after trying many different combinations and using the analysis section after matches. My F9 and SS actually do what you would think they would do, when one drops deep the other moves forward into a more spearhead role ahead of the AMR AMC AML. With the IFs set to Support duty they tend not to run into the box, they tend to float around their areas and try through balls, but they usually pass the ball. Now I have my IFs to sit narrow which drags all of their defence into the box when I am attacking leaving space for the attacking fullback to run to the byline and is almost always in acres of space to cross the ball if one of the midfield players chooses to use him as an outlet. If he does somehow manages to lose the ball its a corner as he is usually very close to the line. The IF then usually covers the FB (Even if high up the pitch) if he needs to. What usually happens with the two CMs and the other IF/FB on the opposite flank is one CM (usually DLP) sits back infront of a high line consisting of CB CB FB with the BBM supporting and the IF attacking the far post. This creates SS, F9, IF, BBM all in a pretty tight space, with high tempo, pass into space, shorter passing, attack mentality and fluid, it creates a quick one touch football passing into the box which I find is pretty deadly and also creates a very open wide option if needed. Defensively I play a pressing game (like pretty much everyone) which is obviously very effective, the team defends as a narrow unit with offside trap off. The fact that my front 4 are very narrow helps press the centre backs in which they tend have below 40% pass success from their back line which in turn means if they do try to do that 50 yard diagonal ball behind my fullback they tend to miss or there is nobody there to collect it. My defenders then pick up an easy ball around the half way line and distribute it to my midfield and the pressure starts all over again. At home I have not dropped a point and I have yet to concede a goal so I would imagine it is very solid. I can't remember a team that has had a CCC at Old Trafford yet. That is a brilliant return even with the pens.
scott MUFC
I just got a stonking performance out of Adnan as well. tore Arsenal apart down the wing in this match. Arsenal 57% pass completion. and i got 100% tackles won I hate it when you encounter a godlike keeper... not getting many shots against currently myself either. very good midfielder, could be a winger or a creative centre mid looking forward to this guy in the future, going to be an assist machine with high dribbling and crossing.
Jimmy Valentine
Nice! Ive kept Adnan in my first season and rotating him and making sure he gets some playing time. That is probably gonna be easier now Pastore broke his foot vs City... The Greek midfielder is probably going to be best as a box to box! Looks very pomising.
scott MUFC
loaned both those out already. oh and Moyes... THIS is how you deal with league cup semis... and I got a freebie spur of the moment signing, Ribery going for Peanuts, although his wages are not peanuts, from the first game he has played though he seems a perfect fit, got a couple of assists in the Fulham game with great passes. pretty annoyed, Havn't conceded a goal in a league game for a fair few matches, and concede 2 to 2 corners might be a handy tutor as well as a top player for a season or 2. BharadwajNaidu
And bhara... liverpool relegated. . Good good. Can you let me know when they get promoted again please? They got relegated in 2016/17 on my game. 18th place on just 32 points after just 7 wins, 11 draws and 20 loses.lol. Was amazed because in the previous season they finished 5th. Due to relegation they sold £100m of players, with suaraz going for a mere £7.75m to newcastle. These are their championship positions after that; 17/18: 9th 18/19: 6th 19/20: 3rd 20/21: 3rd 21/22: 3rd 22/23: 2nd and promoted. Also ... spurs relegated in 21/22, though they bounced straight back up with a 3rd place and playoff win in 22/23. They got back up the very next season and now are going back down again , down in 20th and going down
PJ Bluenose 4 Ever
Quick update on my game; I started off at Spurs, not long finished the 3rd season, completed the treble, won the league with 90 points (11 points clear), won the League Cup and the FA Cup. Man United really struggled, I was hoping they did as bad as possible, so I can sign Januzaj, in the end they finished 10th, sacked Moyes straight after the last game... They then approached me, and offered me an interview, I accepted (just to see what they said) at the start. Then I really started to consider it, and in the end, when they offered me the job, I accepted. In the interview, they offered me £20m to spend, but about a week or so later, that got upped to £79m as the chairman provided cash injection. I got rid of what I considered to be the deadwood, the likes of Nani, Kagawa, Rafael, Valencia and a few of the bad signings which they made. I brought in Kurt Zouma, Luke Shaw, Benteke, Griezmann and Salah on loan. Considering the money I had available to me, very few decent players wanted to join, no surprised really, as I am not even in the Europa League and entered the League Cup in the 2nd round, a first for United? Played two games in the league, lost away to Norwich, they just won the Championship, Leroy Fer scored an outrageous free-kick. I then beat Chelsea and my number one enemy Jose Mourinho 3-0, which really satisfied me as he always gives it loads before I play him.

PJ Bluenose 4 Ever
I know, I'm a Birmingham fan and we're at home tonight and I've got a season ticket so I've got to go unfortunately.. It's okay, from what I can see Moyes hasn't replaced the 'spine of the team'.. My team is along the lines of this; de Gea, regen with 5 star potential, Jones, Smalling, Luke Shaw, Fellaini, Schneiderlin, El Shaaraway, Januzaj, Zaha and Benteke. Rooney and RVP are still here (just about haha), along with Evans, Johnstone, Carrick, Welbeck, Chicarito etc... (Sorry that the replies are the longest and in depth, I'm at work you see). Jimmy Valentine
haha! I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun at the game, always time for FM later! Still a strong squad! I'd say your weak link is possibly Zaha but Im not too sure how good he becomes on this FM.
scott MUFC
I hate Jose as well, pain in the backside. Zaha isn't that bad, gets a good number of goals/assists on the wing. signed this guy, most in demand newgen in the entire game, practially every top club (and newcastle) were after him annoying run of away games. fortunatly I can field weakened sides for these 2 played goldbaek I this one, because I could. Sorry I not had a chance to post the details. Will sort it today with luck. Just got a kitten on Sunday and he a little scared of the pc so it hasnt been on since i first tried. They got back up the very next season and now are going back down again , down in 20th and going down Haha. Nice to know. They got promoted eventually on mine, and instantly relegated. Mwhahaha. I'd say your weak link is possibly Zaha but Im not too sure how good he becomes on this FM. Yeah hope so, literally can not wait to finish work (at 6pm), so I can kick off on it.. I'm willing to preserver with Zaha, as he's English for a start and he's got good potential, wiling to do the same with Januzaj and el Shaarawy.. My left back and right back both have 5 star potential which is good for the future anyway, after a 'star striker' to replace Rooney and RVP, other than that, it's not looking to bad, could perhaps do with another CM to pair with Fellaini, as I don't think Schneiderlin is good enough on my gut instinct, and his first few games reflect that, but it's early days. Looking to bring Ronaldo back (at some point, well any point) but I'm not holding my breath.. Some more info on my Spurs game- United, Real Madrid and Birmingham (my team) would be the only teams I would have left for, I have a big soft spot for them and have done for donkeys years. Jimmy Valentine
Wow Angelini is a brilliant box to box! I could do with him as my midfield trio of Gundogan, Fellaini and Carrick seem to get tired quite a lot and as Fletcher is out again for another 2 months (played 10 minutes after coming back before getting injured again) and Nick Powell being on loan I've had to bring Anderson back in, who has been quite good to be perfectly honest. So in January or the summer if needed I am looking to bring in an extra young MC, my thoughts were on Will Hughes or Goretzka. I had a deal agreed to sign Lucas Romero for £10m but he refused to agree because he wouldnt want to go back on loan to his previous club! Now I can't get them to accept anything under £25m... Goretzka is unlikely to want to move as he has only just signed for Shalke too, so I may be forced to keep Anderson until the end of the season. I'll keep my eye on Zaha then and see how he develops Good luck getting Ronaldo back! But a star striker? Isn't Benteke awesome by now?
xx11
As requested, this is the formation I play that Januzaj is so good playing And this is how he plays. Used to be more complicated but seems to work better when just leave him to roam.
PJ Bluenose 4 Ever
Only went on it for an hour or so, but it was an eventful hour.. Played three games in total, come from a goal behind to beat Brentford at home in the Capital One Cup 3-1, drew 0-0 away to Stoke, which is not a bad result as Stoke have been over-achieving on my game, they finished 2nd in the first season! Then to the biggest game of the season, Tottenham away... I decided to be a bit brave in the press conference and said something along the lines of 'I can't wait to beat them and show them what they are missing'. It looked as if it was going to backfire on me early doors, and Baines scored.. I was on Standard and Rigid, which is what I usually have it on when I play away (against the stronger teams anyway), I then put it on Counter and Rigid, as I was getting mullered.. Got into half-time and let my feelings known to the players and this worked.. Kaboul put it in his own net, it was 1-1 going into the 80th minute, until I had a corner which RVP whipped in, it got cleared and fell to Fellaini, who put it in the net, absolute raptures, safe to say this was the most mental raptures I had ever had on FM, unbelievable. I saw the game out and won 2-1, absolutely buzzing.
scott MUFC
I'm doing something right. 2nd match in a row conceded ZERO shots on target, de Gea has kept 12 clean sheets in the league, and Valdes has conceded 1 goal in 11 appearances. shame the game before the swansea smashing was a against spurs.. Lloris also has 12 clean sheets 0-0 gets rather annoying conceding to shots that my strikers miss 3 times a match. dunno where that 5 came from, it just happened, until thier goal not much happened, only at 2-1 the game picked up. how have I forgot about this guy, 2 goals and 4 or 5 assists for me in only the few games he has played, Everton manager called him my "weak link" in one opf the previous matches, where he got an assist

Jimmy Valentine
Im only half way through my 1st season so I dont think I'm gonna start a new game. If Mourinho gets sacked I'll jump in and sell him over but otherwise I won't bother. I dont really need him anyway I have Pastore and Young has done well on AML whilst hes been injured and have Nani, Januzaj and Kagawa can all play there if need be. AMC wise I only play a SS at home although he does look like he would probably be the best Shadow Striker on the game.

Focused him on Winger trainer as always planned to play him AML, also trained him in the position so he was a natural there. From there I just then focused on specific areas I wanted to work on. Early on was a lot of stamina training iirc followed by some set piece training just to keep it pretty high when stats keep reallocating to different areas as he at his peak

scott MUFC
love those coaches, dont really do anything with mine, i let chairman pick them (odd i know but he finds some very good ones) won the League cup, joe Hart had a meltdown for the first, he got closed down in no mans land, booted the ball right to carrick who scored from 30 yards and for the 3rd, he rolled it to a defender who Bernard closed down and finished in a single touch. and to follow on, a decent win against 5th placed Norwich
