Sent. 7 I know for sure. Not sure bout 2,3,8

#2 - I remember who won the Hart/Lindsay award, Vezina, Calder, Jennings, Jack Adams, and Norris, but somehow don't exactly remember the Rocket Richard one...it's only an educated guess

#3 - Had a feeling there was going to be some historical question about the Cup. I know the history but no idea where it was made though...

#8 - Total guesswork and I probably got it wrong.

Well I think I got 1. Because I've read Wayne Gretzky's wikipedia page. I know enough about hockey to guess some team names but beyond that I haven't got a clue! Think it was a little unfair to put all 10 questions about hockey to be honest. I could ask 10 questions about the minutiae of finite element analysis and make everyone get 0 but what would be the point?

Well everyone anticipated a few ice hockey questions but not one person has done 10 questions on the same subject yet. It's your round so you do what you like, but I just think it's a bit off.

I'm glad someone else thinks the same. I expected 2 or 3 questions on Ice Hockey but getting 10 questions which you have no hope of answering just because you don't follow a sport that isn't widely known or played in your country isn't very fun. Not sure some people would enjoy it if I came out with 10 cricket or golf questions when I'm the quiz ****.

I couldnt care less. Its not as though we win anything.

It's for fun though, and it's not fun answering 10 questions without a clue on any of them and not even being able to make an educated guess because you know nothing about the subject. (for instance I didn't know any ice hockey teams)

It's only a forum quiz. I'm the only person participating on the other side of the Atlantic and the questions have never catered to me in season 1 with HC doing them till Deisler's quiz. I didn't care.

My goal this year is actually make up as many funny answers as I can. Altho if I actually know the answers, it's actually quite hard to come up with good funny ones. :D

Well yes, it is only a forum quiz. Which has been between mildly and fairly amusing so far. So why make it dull by making all 10 questions about something the vast majority of participants won't have the first clue about? See what reaction you get if you go to a pub quiz and set a round on Russian folk music. I don't care about doing well, but I'd like to have a shot at answering or making an educated guess at a decent proportion of the questions rather than being completely stymied by the fact that ice hockey gets no coverage in the UK. It's just boring (the questions, not the sport, before anyone tries to rip my face off for that one :D).

I don't mean to be rude that this swings the game so much in your favour. By picking a subject the majority of us know nothing about and basing the whole quiz on it, you put yourself in a much more advantageous position. I know it's just for fun and your intentions weren't to gain an advantage but that's pretty much what this round has done.

Seconded. Striking a good balance of difficulty isn't easy, especially on topics we're interested in, but there should be a variety so people have a chance of knowing something about a couple of the questions at least. While Ice hockey isn't obscure for everyone, even something better known generally would have been annoying to have a whole round on as there would be people in a similar situation to non-ice hockey followers. I don't care about difficult rounds (I've certainly faced a load of those in both quiz's), as long as they reflect the fact that we all have widely different interests, football (mostly) aside as HC's '5 football, 5 general' format worked well. I only had one 'British' question (and kept the football ones European/global), and didn't do a railway one as that would have been another, so as hard as people found it I at least tried to make it managable. Same for SRL88 but this is something else entirely.

I understand your points, but there was nothing to say that I should have gone for the 5/5 category.

Put it this way, if someone did a London 2012 Olympics question, I would have 0, but I wouldn't complain about it. In hindsight, maybe the questions should have been easier and I apologise for that, but I'm not sorry for putting in questions on a sport I love.

It's for fun.

Not a good comparision, generally people are much more likely to know something about the Olympics than Ice Hockey, and that itself probably wouldn't have gone down well. I don't mind whether you redo the round or not, and I don't mind having a non-serious go and accepting 0 for this round, (in fact as people have probably answered, it's best you don't suddenly change as that would be unfair on them) as long as people don't do anything near the same thing.

I think we should just stick with a general rule that there should be a good balance with questions and not overloaded to one topic. No specific 5/5 splits or whatever (I already did my questions and I don't even have a 5/5 split. There's literally 8 different topics on mine).

But I don't think we should restrict what type of questions the Quiz **** should post.

I must admit, I was planning a round that was all on one topic, but it was a topic that I would expect everyone to have a decent chance of getting quite a few right on.

I was thinking that a decent set of questions should give an average of around 5/10 when the results are in.

Definitely don't worry about redoing the questions Deisler - especially as many people will have already sent their answers in I imagine. I was just making the point because I enjoy this and if it ended up like that every week it'd lose the enjoyment for me.

A prescribed question split would be too formal as well, just generally aim to have a decent selection I think. Even 10 questions on obscure stuff would be fun so long as they were on different obscure things :D

Meh, 10 questions on Ice Hockey! I'm not sure that's completely in the spirit of things...

I don't mind the tricky questions if they're over a number of different subject areas- there's a possibility I might have an inkling, at least. Anyway, it's all been discussed already, so I'll just have to suck it up and get on with it. Although, if every week turns out to be a fest of specialised questions, the enjoyment factor for me will severely wane.

As already mentioned, 10 questions on a topic that most won't know about isn't right (mainly because for us it's not fun knowing you are going to get 0) so in future please try and keep your round enjoyable. I won't stop people doing questions on one round but I will ask that you ask weeks in advance if that is okay. (note to Deisler you warned us about a few questions not a whole round of questions). But no hard feelings, it's not about the winning (I know I can easily say that having picked up 1 point in what will be 4 rounds :D) so let's draw a line under it and move on, just try and keep it enjoyable, or at least ask us before hand if the topic you are wanting to do is okay. And on the back of this, I will host a party but Deisler and anyone who actually scores a point in this round aren't invited :D

I picked up a point, but focusing on more important people Deisler had a great start but has quickly fallen off and behind him is Snake, playing a very good consistent game
